Quicktime-no sound

Anyone know why Quicktime has no sound with AVI movies but Mpegs work fine?

Try the garageband trick too -- Close quicktime player completely and Open Garageband....play anything on it for a few seconds. Close it out, now restart Quicktime and see if that restored the sound -- that is a workaround that has worked for a lot of Quicktime and Real Player sound problems over the years.
If that doesn't work, you have a deeper problem...

  • Yet ANOTHER Quicktime without sound topic.....

Sorry to post ANOTHER topic about quicktime without sound, but....
I have a 1.5ghz powerbook g4, running OSX10.3.9, quicktime 7.1.6, Divx 6.0 codec, and the latest version of Xvid. I've tried my Audio settings at 32000, 44100, and 48000khz, played with audio settings in the quicktime player itself, and I've even reluctantly, as I really prefer QT, tried other players (Mplayer, Windows Media Player, and Divx Player... ). I've tried the garageband solution, and Perian won't work on OSX10.3...
And yet I still can't play the **** first season of 24 or the new season of Entourage in .avi format...... I recently watched the first three seasons of House, a season of CSI, and Entourage, so why can't I play certain .avi files?

    To Apple Discussions!
I note that you haven't tried running FSCK and/or VLC Media Player.

  • Quicktime Player Sound Only

I have quicktime pro 7.4.1 and on my mac pro only, in Quicktime Player from a fresh download, the video starts out fine and then the video window goes away and only the sound plays, I have tried everything I can think of and am having the same thing happen. I have rebuilt permissions and re-downloaded quicktime several times, any ideas would be great. Quicklook works and so does quicktime within safari sorry for the length, just making me crazy
    thanks in advance

the video starts out fine and then the video window goes away and only the sound plays
What kind of video? Downloaded, one you created yourself?

  • Export to Quicktime Movie Sound Problems

I have a 60 min. film with a lot of music that I exported to Quicktime. One 10 second section of one of the songs is distorted (crackly/choppy) in the .mov file (at the end of the song). In FCE, it sounds perfect. The original mp3 sounds perfect. The other 59:50 of the film sounds fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, and welcome to the Apple Discussion forums!
First thing, did you mixdown your audio before exporting from FCE?
Select the entire sequence, then do *Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown.* Try that first, it may fix things this time. Then export your video again.
Second, MP3's are not ideal for use in FCE. You really should convert audio to AIFF, 16-bit (48KHz), stereo before importing into FCE.
Another thing that could be happening, if that 10-sec is extra loud, you could be getting clipping. If so, you can keyframe around that 10-sec area and +reduce the gain+ (drag down the clip's audio level overlay line in either the Viewer or the Timeline.) Ideally, you should target -12 db in the audio meters as your max peak.

  • QuickTime unsyncs sound last minutes on AVI files converted to AppleTV

Hi! I'm sitting up in Sweden with a problem I hope someone has answer to. I realize I'm not the only one in Sweden with this from other discussions groups.
I convert AVI files with QuickTime pro. for my AppleTV. When Playing, at the end of the files / film (5-8 minutes) Sound doesn't sync with image, which is veeeery annoying of course.
I hoped this would go away with Leopard but no no.
I've got an 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB mem. Quick Time is up to date as well.
Any clues for us northen Mac fanatics?

  • Quicktime-no sound & Broadcaster Error - Can't Open Handler (-2004)

Greetings - I made the following post in the Tiger forum and after 3 days have received no response. Hopefully I'll have better luck here. Thanks in advance.
    10.4.7
    MacbookPro Intel Core Duo
    Suddenly some problems.
My Fireworks 8 will no longer open. I get a Macromedia error pop-up stating "A problem was detected with your application. Please reinstall software to correct the problem."
    So I reinstall.
Same problem! Reinstallation does not fix.
Also, I now have no sound with Quicktime. All other system sounds are fine, DVD player, sound applications like Peak. But Quicktime is silent.
Lastly - my Quicktime Broadcaster is no longer working.
Video is no longer appearing in the source preview. (although I can confirm that the camera is working when I click on options for "built in iSight." I DO see video in the "Video Adjustments" window.
Futhermore, if I click on "broadcast" I get this error "Broadcaster Error - Can't Open Handler (-2004)
    Argghhh.
    Any suggestions for me?
    Thanks!

I doubt it is corrupt you could try to delete it but that will probably cause a problem with QT. What is the turn of events that took you to the registry?
This is a permissions issue. What account originally installed QT? Are you an administrator account? You need to take Full Control or Ownership of the item in the registry or QT with a administrator account. Whatever account you're using, now, either is not an administrator account or it is being denied permissions. At worse I would think you might have to create another administrator account to take ownership and full control. There are at least 2 on the computer now.

  • DivX player - QuickTime - no sound during playback

Trying to play avi files on this MacBook - downloaded QuickTime 7 and DivX player for Mac - both play the video wonderfully but with no sound - My computer is not muted - nor do I have the DivX player muted - playback is fine on the Windows side using GOM player - Would be gratefull for any advice on how to resolve this issue

Are you actually using both programs at once? After putting DivX on any of my machines clicking a file would open it in Quicktime and play just fine, also I saw this today I havent tried it myself but people seem happy with it

  • QuickTime Player Sounds MUCH BETTER!?

I downloaded a YouTube video, mp4.  By chance the original download was still on the desktop so I hit play -- AND IT SOUNDED GREAT!
Then in iTunes I played it and it was very MUFFLED in comparisson.
I turned off the equalizer but still the  QuickTime Player version sounded much, much better!
I never had compared the sound quality of the videos like this before, it was just a 'by chance' accidental discovery...
Is there anything I can do to make iTunes sound more like my  QuickTime Player?

Thanks, sberman, that's a good commons sense suggestion...and I had previously tried that.
I HATE to admit this but it might have been my sound settings. The volumn on iTunes was only half way.
Now after turning iTunes up full volumn and setting Get Info on the song to be as high as possible, it sounds - more or less -- just like the  QuickTime Player....
Oh well.....sometimes things are as simple as that.

  • Quicktime/Conversion sound problem

I've been trying to convert my mpeg video to mpeg-4. I've downloaded multiple conversion programs, and they work, except it doesn't transfer the sound. I don't know if it's the video I have, but the sound works fine when I watch it with Quicktime. I know this doesn't have anything directly to do with the iPod, but maybe someone could direct me as to where to go to find out what I can do? Thanks.

I think the sound and video are embedded together.
Quick time has a way of combining the two, but
conversion programs can't seem to separate them
and you end up with just Video. Your Quiktime player and
iTunes can tell them apart and they play them just fine.
What form were they in BEFORE you got them in MPEG?
I use a free conversion program called, strangely enough,
'Free iPod Video Converter'. It is made by Jodix and can
    be found HERE.
Try it out and see if it does the trick.

  • Quicktime no sound and or no video when i play AVI's since OS X no plugins work need help please

Had a long chat to apple support but they cant find the right plug ins so i need to get help here ! i have Perian but its not helping at all !
    Please help

The development on perian has ended. It works just fine under 10.8.1 and earlier.
The preceding VLC link is a sound video player choice too.

  • Quicktime - got sound no video

Hi there - hope you can help. I am a very basic user. Have some videos which used to play fine (they are realy precious ones of my kids as babies etc) and now suddenly they won't play the images. Got sound. Blank white screen. They were taken on my digital camera.
I have been searching for days and have looked through some other messages in this forum and tried a few of the basic things suggested with the Quicktime settings to no avail. The only thing I haven't tried is looking for the codecs cause I don't understand what I need or where to look. I looked in "Quicktime Inspector" and found the following info -
    Format u-law 2:1 mono, 8.000KHZ, MPEG-4 Video, 320x240, millions.
    Movie FPS: 20.00
Please help! Will be eternally grateful.

    Hi,
I'm having same problem. My mp4 films used to work fine, now I only get sound, no video. Same thing in QT-player, and quickview. iTunes and VLC play the files fine. The problem just appeared for no apparent reason. Really frustrating. Funny thing is tough, that some mp4 files work.
One of the clips that's NOT working is:
    MPEG-4 (Perian), 320 x 240,
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44,100 kHz
One of the clips that WORK is:
    MPEG-4 (Perian), 320 x 262,
    AAC, Mono, 22,050 kHz
Doesn't really make sense to me. Could the audio-rate have something to do with this?
    I have: QT pro 7.4.5
I tried to remove the components somebody suggested in another thread, but no help. I even tried to remove all the QT components. No help. I have also installed Perian again. no help..
Any suggestion and help would be appreciated.

  • Desperately need some help!! iTunes/Quicktime/iChat/Sound problems....

So, yesterday, I was online, on google video, and when I pressed play on the video, there was no sound, but the video worked...the same was true on every video site i checked. My computer volume was at max, and I even tested the speakers to make sure they were on, and they indeed were.
I thought that was odd...but then the problems really started.....
After that, I clicked on my iChat icon. It bounced once, and did not open. The same thing happened when I clicked on iTunes. 1 bounce, and then nothing. I checked to make sure all of my iTunes mp3 files were on my computer....they indeed are all still here, bit nothing I can do opens iTunes. I've run disc utilities, and disc repair...according to that, everything is peachy-keen on my computer.....but iChat and iTunes STILL will not open, and there is still no sound on anything.
Now, i'm leaning towards the archive and install option....or even just backing up what I want to save, wiping the drive, and starting from scratch.....but i'd really like to not have that happen.
(and, as a side question, if all I want to save are images, several documents, and many mp3 files, would everything be okay if I just backed them up on an external drive, and then loaded them back on to my computer after reinstalling OS X?)
Sorry about the length of this, but I am at my wit's end, and I have no idea what to do.

by third-party, do you mean things I installed that are not manufactured by mac? If that is the case, I have microsoft office, Smart Music, Flip4mac, and Senuti.
I got rid of Flip4Mac to see if that affected my sound problems, but it did not. So, as of now, my problem remains the same...

  • Keynote 08 - problem exporting to Quicktime (no sound or video clip)

    Hi
Having just spent a long time making and narrating a training slideshow intended for a screencast using Keynote 08 (4.0.3) I choose to export the show as a quicktime movie with the recording timings and recording narrative soundtrack. A screenshot of my settings is below.
    The problems I have are:
    1. The recorded narration is not present in the QT Mov file
    2. A video animation of an embedded movie (screen capture) displays the first frame but does not play automatically
The show works fine if I play it in Keynote, but this is no good as I want to put it on the web!
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If anyone has any ideas or similar experiences, please let me know
    Thanks
    Nick

Just thought I would add my voice to the chorus... I am having the same problem.
Also note that this error will prevent you from being able to "Send To">"YouTube" as well.
I am seeing the exact same issues reported here by everyone else. Not sure what update screwed this up, but it was working fine less than a month ago (I do a series of 5 keynote presentations each month and it worked for the first one I did on June 7 but has not worked for the last two I tried).
I am also in need of a fast solution for this. I am pretty much dead in the water till I get a solution going.
My flash export also results in out of sync audio. Do I have to dig up powerpoint?
Also, it looks as if Quicktime is having a hard time with the file. Quicktime suddenly becomes very sluggish (IE: tons of delay when you click on menus or on pause when the keynote export is playing). Quicktime is NOT having these problems with video files from other sources.

  • Quicktime With Sound Echo

    Forum,
Today I reinstalled my OS and FCS2. When I play Quicktime videos the video starts fine, until about three seconds later when the audio for the video starts again a second time creating an echo - truly annoying and not useful.
Does anybody know what might be going on?

possibly an incompatible version of Quicktime for your FCP OS combination

  • Quicktime no sound, i've already adjusted Audio MIDI Setup

Seems a lot of people have had a similar problem with Quicktime of AVI files not having any audio. I have adjusted the Audio MIDI Setup per the instructions i've found, but could not adjust the Default Output to "Speakers" because it is not an option on that pull down menu. Only option is Built In Output.
    Any suggestions?
