Quicktime not playing .wav files
I cannot get .wav files to play.
I have installed Flip4Mac Beta for snow Leopard (twice) and even reinstalled Quicktime Player 7 just in case that would work since my Quicktime 10 (51) does not handle .wav files. This is a big problem.
Is there a solution since I think it may be something with my upgrade to snow leopard and incompatibility issues and hopefully this is an issue being worked on by apple.
"I have installed Flip4Mac Beta"
BETA=buggy. Suggest that you post your concerns over on the Flip4Mac forums.
There may be solutions regarding how to make their beta product work w/QT & Snow Leopard.

How do you make itunes not play wav files?
I know how to make it play wav files but how do I remove it from the default player list? I want them to all play in Quicktime. I have done the right click, holt alt and press Always Open With... and also done the right click and specify it to open in Quicktime. I have done this on 3 different Macs with 2 different OSX versions. It will open in Quicktime that one time but then the next time I open a wav file it goes back to Quicktime.
Anyone have any suggestions? It will open in Quicktime that one time but then the next time I open a wav file it goes back to Quicktime.
Do you mean, "goes back to iTunes"? "A wav file," or the same wav file you just changed?
Did you select the additional option in Get Info's Open With window to, "Change all of this kind to open with Quicktime"? -

Quicktime not playing .avi file!
I have been trying to figure out why it doesn't play for a day now. The thing is, it only doesn't play this .avi file, others I have can play it. It says it needs another component to play it and directs me to the extra quicktime downloads page, but I don't know which one I need. I tried downloading the XviD component, but now it says "Movie cannot be opened. Mac OS Error -1." I need help!
I just solved this issue on my machine. Something in the Perian bundle also conflicts with Intel core MacBooks. I finally resolved the issue and avoided the white screen by removing ALL 3rd party QT plugins (including Perian) and restarted. I was then able to view the AVI files and avoid the white screen. When I added back Perian, I could again not see the files. So, the solve is remove ALL QT 3rd party plugins. I suppose you can add Perian back after you have used the files you require, but be aware there is still an Intel conflict within Perian for certain AVI files.

I'm unable to isolate the problem here. When I play the file with mplayer, it plays just fine. But with the code above, it just does not wish to play..
Can someone please point out the error I am commiting.
ThanksI'm using the code below to play a simple wav file in
Linux:I'm running the performance pack under Win XP, here..
try {
URL url = new URL("file", "", "/magichome/xruser/jmf/WindowsXPStartup.wav");
...Is that a linear encoded, 16 bit, stereo sample
recorded at 22050Hz sample rate? 4.81 seconds
(424,644 bytes), content type audio.x_wav?
The reason I ask is just that you do not mention if
you'd tested on any other OS, and I found a very
similarly named WAV of the above description on
my system and tried it with your code - and in
JMStudio.
It ran flawlessly in both.
But on running the above program ...
I get the following error:...
file:/magichome/xruser/jmf/WindowsXPStartup.wav
file:/magichome/xruser/jmf/WindowsXPStartup.wav
com.sun.media.content.unknown.Handler@1ee4648...
Unable to handle format: LINEAR, 22050.0 Hz,
16-bit, Stereo, LittleEndian, Signed, 88200.0 frame
rate, FrameSize=32 bits...
I'm unable to isolate the problem here. When I play
the file with mplayer, What is 'mplayer'? The default media player
of the OS?
..it plays just fine. But with
the code above, it just does not wish to play..
Can someone please point out the error I am
commiting.I cannot tell what the problem is, sorry. Just
thought I should check in and note there is
nothing wrong with the code, and that WAV
is sure understood by Windows based JMF. -
Quicktime not playing .mov files
i have a problem with quicktime. it doesn't play .mov files. if i try to play .mov files that are embedded in a .pdf file, a window opens but stays blank, although the progress bar moves. if i try to open the files in quicktime, there's no window, just the progress bar that moves. i run the latest version. i've already tried reinstalling - didn't help, uninstalling completely and installing - didn't help.
help?
many thanks!
dianaQuicktime>Quicktime Player Preferences>Advanced
Click on the MIME Settings button.
In the next window that opens up make sure that Streaming-Streaming movies is enabled (checked).
While you’re at it make sure all the boxes are enabled by clicking on the corresponding triangles so that they are pointed down.
This will show the “hidden” boxes especially the *QuickTime Movie* box. This box will enable you to play .mov files.
Click the OK button. -
Quicktime not playing .mp4 files
I recently upgraded my computer to windows vista last week.
Today I hooked my computer to my LCD Tv and wanted to watch one of the .mp4 movies I had on my storage hard drive.
I had to install iTunes and quicktime again, so I did that.
When everything is finished I try to open a .mp4 from my storage hard drive and it does not show. Only the sound plays.
I try different programs until I try Firefox and IE. The video and sound works there. but i cannot get it fullscreen.
So what is the problem with quicktime?
I have the updated itunes and quicktime.
Thanks for all of your help.

Quicktime not playing Quicktate files
I recently joined QuickTate but the files aren't playing on Quicktime. I've installed quicktime and done a repair/install twice. Nothing.
I've tried going into the settings and adding other file types, but that hasn't helped.

Have a look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93199 re AVI files.
Download and install VLC Player, it should handle your AVIs. My experience is that VLC will handle most things that QT won't.
Have fun,

I am using OS 10.7 Lion. Quicktime will not play avi files. One support forum gave 2 links to get the proper codecs but I got a 404 error. Can anyone help?
You can also use VLC
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.htm
It woks very well, can read almost anything, and also lets you do conversions to other formats. -
Pure Music player from Channel D software will not work when playing wav. files after updating to Lion OS. I can open the application as usual but after playing one song it will not advance to the next track either on its own or manually. The scrolling track name goes dim and I cannot get the play button to respond. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
RonThanks Limnos, but unfortunately the same error still remains.
The disk was OK. Permissions had errors along the lines of groups should be 0, is 80. I repaired that. Tried again to open, then reinstalled (new download again), but again the same problem.
I checked permissions again and some of the 0-80 errors came again, but no clear reason from there I think
Was also a SUID warning on ARDAgent but I see online that doesn't appear to be something abnormal.
I tried reloading Lion but the installation came back with software appears to have been tampered with (I think the dmg file is gone as I couldn't find it). I then went to email to report a problem so I could download again but of course that whole process doesn't work because itunes wont open.
So Stuck
if there is anything else I might be missing? -
My QuickTime player us not playing .avi files and says I need a codec I can't play no .avi files on QuickTime. How could I fix this because I want to play these files with QuickTime.
Hmm . . . comes with a Utility MPEG2 Component ML app with no explanation of what it's for?
The utility app is an "assistant PKG installer." It allows Lion and Mountain Lion users to install the older QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installer PKG file which is not allowed to run on its own under Lion or Mountain Lion since these operating systems already have a QT X only MPEG-2 component embedded in the QT embedded structure. Without this utility you would have to either copy the component from an older system to your Lion or Mountain Lion system, use Pacifist for installation, or manually open the PKG contents and transfer the component to the appropriate component folder.
As to your "discussion" regarding the playback of AVI file types, there are really only two strategies here:
1) You can add component support so that QT can play the files natively or
2) You can convert the file contents to compression formats that are natively compatible with the unmodified QT component configuration.
Each user should decide for his or her own self which approach best suits their needs for a particular source file. In most cases, conforming the system's codec component configuration to play the source file directly results in higher video quality since no transcoding takes place but this strategy will not work if a codec which is required is not available for the user's operating system. On the other hand, converter utilities tend to support more built-in codecs and are easier to use since the user does not have to concern him or herself with the nature of the particular source compression formats but at the risk of some potential loss in visual quality. As to what converter to use, once again this is a matter of personal choice. In the case of commercial converters like iSkysoft, the codecs are built in while MPEG Streamclip accesses the host operating system's QT codec component configuration. I personally prefer the free HandBrake app for AVI, MKV, TS, MTS, and M2TS conversions since it has an exceptionally full-featured X.264 GUI with some user options that 97% of users are likely to never use. -
Hi...I have the OS X v10.6.8 but my QuickTime is not playing .mov files. How can I fix this?
Hi...I have the OS X v10.6.8 but my QuickTime is not playing .mov files. How can I fix this?
Depends of the specific kind of file you are trying to play. MOV refers to the file container. Any data compatible with the system used to create the file can be placed in an MOV file. If you don't have the same codecs available on your computer to play back the file or if your version of the QT player does not expect expect the encoded data to be in an MOV file container, then it cannot/will not play the file. Use the Finder Info window, media player Inspector/Information window, or a dedicated utility to determine what compression formats were used to create the MOV file and then install the required codec(s) if available. -

Maybe. First, what is the URL for a .wav file you're trying to play in Safari? I want to test this before I say whether or not it will work.
