Quicktime + Picture Viewer?

I recently updated iTunes, and it appears Picture Viewer has been installed on my PC. Needless to say, I am not happy. I cannot remove it via Programs and Features, and I did not agree for it to be installed. I'd like this useless 'Picture Viewer' removed, pronto. Does anyone know how?
<Edited by Host>

Thanks Kirk. I am aware of QuickTime and Picture Viewer's functionality. However, Windows 7 comes with such utilities, so QuickTime and Picture Viewer are therefore redundant, unnecessary software on my machine, save for the fact that I am forced to use iTunes so my iPhone and iPod will function. I am also a photographer, so I use much more advanced software to view and edit images.
Following my most recent iTunes (and QuickTime) update, Picture Viewer showed up in my Start menu as a new program. If it wasn't there before, why would I need it now? I am not currently at my PC to check any help files, but the usual, foolproof method of uninstalling a program in Windows 7 (via Programs and Features) does not work for Picture Viewer. It is not listed as a program or feature and therefore cannot be removed. After some research, I have found that the only way to remove Picture Viewer is to completely uninstall iTunes and QuickTime, then reinstall iTunes.

  • "Edit menu in Photoshop" opens up QuickTime picture viewer

As the subject line suggests, when I right-click a menu and select "Edit menu in Photoshop" from the pulldown, it opens up QuickTime picture viewer. Somehow, Encore or this function in Encore has gotten reassociated with QuickTime. Any idea how to get it going to Photoshop again instead? Or, any idea of a work-around to open up the menu in Photoshop manually? (Where can I access the menu psd files?)

You need to associate psd files with Photoshop.
Go to a psd file and right click on it and open with..
Set it to Always open with this program.

  • Can't View JPEGs in Windows Explore Because of QuickTime Picture Viewer

A couple of weeks ago I had some film developed in our local drug store. I had the photos put on a CD. The CD came with its own software and you had to install the software in order to view or take off the photos. I wanted to use my own editing software program to edit my photos so I copied the photos to a folder on my HD. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that all my JPEG files had been turned into QuickTime Picture files. Not just the ones that I took off the CD, but every JPEG file on my hard drive--over a 1000! I did what you usually do whenever you want to change an association for a file in WD 98--I right clicked on a JPEG file and chose the option that said always open these type files with ACDSee, the photo editing program I wanted to use for my photos. All this did was to allow me to open all my JPEG files into my favorite photo editing program, but still would not allow me to view my JPEGs in the Windows Preview pane on the left of my screen in Windows Explorer! When you have as many JPEGs as I do, even if they are all organized and labeled, you still need to be able to view the thumbnails in Windows Explorer so that you won't have to open up every photo to see what it looks like. There is no way you can remember what every photo looks like when you have that many files even with them all labeled. I went in to the Preference option in Quick Time and unchecked every thing that had to do with still photos. But it did not help. I right clicked on every folder and checked the option that says View Thumbnails. I went into the Folder Options in Windows Explorer and tried every folder option that was offered and none of it solved the problem. I have searched the knowledge base on MS web site and could not find an answer. I have posted this problem in numerous Tech bulletins and no one can figure out how to solve this problem. I checked my Program's list and I also noticed that I had something there listed right under Quick Time that said "Quick Time for Windows" and don't remember ever seeing that before and don't know if that has anything to do with my problem or not. My Quick Time version is: 6.5.2. The "Quick Time for Windows" is not listed in my ADD/REMOVE program. I am so totally frustrated after working on this problem for 2 weeks, almost 8 hours a day, that I am about to uninstall Quick Time just to see if that will solve this problem. I would hate to do that, and that is why I joined this forum before I perform such a drastic measure. I figured that since this forum is all about Quick Time, someone here will know the answer. I have to leave the house for a little while but will check back here when I get back home and see if anyone has posted here. Thank you in advance for any help that you offer.

Well, it seem no one here knows the answer to my problem either. I appreciate all the people who have looked at my problem even though they did not know the answer either. Because no one on the Internet seems to know how to solve this problem, then I am going to have my husband reformat my hard drive and then I know for sure the problem will go away.
I probably should do that anyway since I have never had to reformat my hard drive since I got it 8 years ago. I always said if something is not broke, why fix it and now it finally seems to be "broke", so I might as well clean it up as well as fix it. Thanks to everyone who looked at my problem.

  • Did apple do away with Picture Viewer?

I just updated the latest QuickTime - and Picture Viewer is gone.  So, I deleted QuickTime and downloaded it as new - thinking that would help (I thought maybe something went wrong with the update).
Nope - still no Picture Viewer.
This is very disappointing as the QuickTime Picture Viewer was FAR superior than what comes on my PC.
Am I the only one with this problem?  And, if I am, what can I do to correct it?

QuickTime for Java and QuickTime PictureViewer are no longer installed by default. They are removed if you have a previous version of QuickTime on your PC. If you still need these legacy features, you can add them back using the new custom setup option in the installer.

  • Picture Viewer question

I have Quicktime but rarely use it.
all of a sudden all my photoshop files now have quicktime Picture Viewer icons on them instead of photoshop icons. how do I revert back to the photoshop icons. I haven't ever used pictureviewer, and this is the first time I'm seeing this icon.
only thing different is that I was using Windown Movie Maker for a power point presentation - could that have been the cause of all the photos turning up with pictureviewer icons instead of photoshop icons?

  • Picture Viewer Crashes

    Hello,
Here is the problem I've been having, I installed Quicktime, everything worked fine and I have Quicktime Picture Viewer as my default viewer (I miss my mac). I was able to use it for some time, then when it starts to open the window which asks me to upgrade to Quicktime pro it crashes. I've tried reinstalls and updates but to no avail. Then I reformatted my Hard Drive, and the same issue is happening. Any ideas?

Thanks, this got me to the answer. Specifically, checking for full permissions under my user name.
I am not sure if it was changing the permissions for QuickTime.qts, that did the trick, Because at the same time I also right-clicked on PictureViewer.exe, went to Properties and along with changing the permissions under the Security tab, I went to the Compatability tab and under Priviledge Level, I clicked on "Run this program as an administrator".  The only downside is I now get that annoying pop-up whenever I open the program saying "do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer", but that is a minor inconvenience.
    Thanks again for you help!

  • QuickTime as Default Picture Viewer

I am working on an HP PC using Windows Vista. I recently downloaded the new iTunes + Quicktime software. I mistakenly allowed Quicktime to be my default picture viewer/everything. I don't want that. What is the Windows version and how can I get that back.

  • Accessing the Quicktime 7.7.5. installer to re-install picture viewer

    Hi everyone,
Up until this morning, I have been resisting the upgrade to Quick Time 7.7.5., because it caused my picture viewer to disappear.  Well, it did that again this morning, and I looked up ho to get the picture viewer back.  All it says is to use the custom feature in the installer, but there is no access to do that, and I cannot find an installer in the program files anywhere.  I am running Windows 7 home premium, so it takes time to fiure out where all the little thins are at.  Can anyone give me any better information than the above?  Thank you.  By the way, I tried contacting support, and since Quick Time is not listed, that is nothing more than a dead end.  Thanks again.

Well, it's idiotic that I've had to go to this much trouble, but I have obtained the item Apple doesn't seem to want anyone to get a hold of. This is thanks in part to Google's cache, as I was able to view a now-expired thread off some U.K. newsgroup and use the direct link to an Akamai server which is still good 10 months later. So, for those of you in need, you have the option of using that:
    http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52/20060104/qtinstall.info.apple.com/snape/us/O SX/QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg
or you can just download the same file I am now hosting (since that Akamai link is bound to go bye-bye at some point...)

  • Pro Picture Viewer Problems

I do not want to use Picture viewer to view .jpg, .tiff and any other picture type of file. Installation of Pro has automatically associated all these file types with Picture Viewer and Quicktime Control Panel does not let me uncheck the box creating the association. How do I fix this, short of uninstalling the whole program and demanding a refund?

You are probably using the compiler options to compile the code as a C++ module causing the name mangling for the external routines.
You need to tell the VC++ compiler to generate strictly C code (not C++ mangled code).
How would you be able to run the SELECT queries in your program without first establishing a connection?
Your program compiles fine for me. But when you run without a connection established, you would get ORA-01012: not logged on
But then, there is no error handling in the code either.

  • Jpegs Picture Viewer vs. Preview

Was recently looking through my wifes imac G3 running OSX (yes the first one) and I wanted to check out some photos she had on there but they insist on opening up with Picture Viewer in Classic and honestly it's just too painful to wait for Classic to open up. Is there a way I can make Preview the default application for all jpegs without having to Get Info for every single photo and changing the application that way?
Basically can I make a system wide command to open jpegs in 10 as opposed to 9?
    Thanks

Hi, zuma. I'm not familiar with the very early versions of OS X. When you open the Get Info window for a JPEG file and select the application you want to open it, is there a "Change All" button there that you can click to make the chosen application the default for all files of that type? If not, that feature must not have appeared until a later OS X version.
You can always open photos in Preview by dragging them onto Preview's icon in the Dock — or onto a Preview alias on the desktop, if that's more convenient.
You could also consider updating the installed version of QuickTime on your wife's iMac to an OS X-native version. Double-clicking the photos would then still open them in PictureViewer, but at least it wouldn't invoke Classic.

  • Disable Apple Picture Viewer

I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. When I attempt to open .TIF and .TIFF files, they automatically open in Apple Picture Viewer. I have nothing against Apple Picture Viewer but this application will not allow me to rotate the picture. The files I am trying to view are NOT on my PC. They are files I am opening within my browser (Internet Explorer). I have already gone into the File Associations utility within Windows 7 and changed the file association of .TIF and .TIFF files to open in Windows Picture Viewer. Still when I attempt to open these files within my browser they are automatically opened in Apple Picture Viewer. If I save the file to my PC it opens correctly in the viewer of my choice (Windows Picture Viewer). Other information. Some how this is connected to Quicktime.

In this context, it's a MIME type setting we need to change rather than a file association.
On Windows XP, I'd handle this by launching QuickTime, and going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences", going into the Browser tab, and clicking the MIME settings button. I get through to a Mime Types dialog, I expand "Images - Still Image Files" and uncheck "TIFF image" and click OK.
Can you do that on Windows 7? Or does the MIME settings button take you somewhere else?

  • Quick Time Picture Viewer language

When installing Quick Time I selected English as my preferred language, but although Quick Time is in English as requested, the Picture Viewer menu is in Norwegian (my location is Norway).
How can I change the Picture Viewer language to English?

Drat ... didn't think to check that. Apparently, Picture Viewer is using *advertised shortcuts.* The first thing that happens when you try running Picture Viewer via a shortcut (like in the Start menu) is that it runs a check against the installation database to see if there are any missing files and whatnot. If there's a discrepancy, it'll run a repair install of itself.
iTunes and recent versions of Safari do that too. But the *QuickTime Player* doesn't use advertised shortcuts, which is why I thought we were fine with Picture Viewer.
There's still a chance we can get past this by *not using* the installed shortcuts, but creating a new "standard" shortcut instead.
    If you've got a 32-bit Windows 7, open:
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\
    If you've got a 64-bit Windows 7, open:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\
Right-click on PictureViewer.exe and select "Create Shortcut". Rename the shortcut something like "PictureViewer English" and drag it to the desktop.
Do the dragging out (or deleting) of all the .lproj folders except for the en.lpoj folder again.
Now try opening PictureViewer from the new desktop shortcut.
Does it open in English? Or do we get some different sort of issue this time?

appologies for posting consecutively, but I have discovered a sollution to this problem, and am posting it so that other people annoyed my this change can correct it.
first remove all of quicktime from your system, then download quicktime 6.5 from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime652forwindows.html
install this, then copy the picture viewer application from C:\program files\quicktime, and keep the copy anywhere else (eg, in your "my documents" folder.)
then download and install the new version of quicktime.
copy the old version of picture viewer into the quicktime folder so that it overwrites the one in there.
you can now use the old picture viewer with the better closing system, without loosing all of the new quicktime components.

  • Images too bright in PSE, good in Windows Picture Viewer.

    Hi:
My question is this, I shot some pictures of my son last weekend, in studio,
with a Nikon D2X camera, and a softbox lightbank mounted on a Balcar
flash head. I set the camera to RAW-JPEG Fine, ISO 100, and used a
Minolta flashmeter to measure the light from the strobe. The reading was
f/8 and 2/3. The images look good in the LCD camera display, but when
I see them in my PC display, they look way too bright in Photoshop Elements 7.0,
but they look fine in the Windows XP SP3 Picture Viewer.
Why is this?. If I adjust the contrast and brightness in PSE, then they look too dark
when I check them in Windows Picture Viewer...
Also, the highlights look a little burned out in both, PSE and Windows Picture Viewer,
but the problem looks more evident in PSE. This happens often when I shoot pictures
    using strobe lights.
Can you help me with this two problems?.
I have attached one of the pictures so you can take a look at it.
    Thanks.

As to why the photo looks different in PSE than in Windows Picture And Fax Viewer, there are two possibilities:
    1. Your display may have a color profile associated with it, either because you calibrated it with a calibrator or a profile was installed by the disk that came with your display.  PSE is "color managed" and will adjust the colors of a photo based on the display's color profile, whereas Windows Picture And Fax Viewer will not.  If you want fine control over accurate display of colors on your display, you'll need to calibrate it if you haven't already, and you should then only use color-managed programs like PSE to view your photos.
    2. The photo you posted indicates that you've set your camera to use the Adobe RGB color space for JPEGs.  The Organizer has a bug and doesn't display the thumbnails (even large thumbnails) of such photos correctly.  The Organizer's Display > Full Screen (F11) and the Editor do display such photos correctly.  I'm not sure if this particular photo will trigger the bug, because of the way Nikon in particular stores color profiles in JPEGs.  You could see if you're getting hit by this bug by:
    a. Open the photo in the Editor.
    b. In the Organizer, make the photo's thumbnail as large as possible (not Full Screen view).
    c. Adjust the zoom of the photo in th Editor to be about as large as the one in the Organizer.
    d. Use Ctrl Tab to switch quickly between the two.  If you see differences, you're encountering the bug.
