Quicktime playback issues in windows 8

For some reason quicktime files are choppy and jittery during playback in Windows 8.
I have the latest Quicktime installed with no other codecs.
I tried playback in the quicktime player as well as in adobe products (premiere, after effects, etc.).
Here's a preview of what the playback looks like:
youtube.com/watch?v=BghtZznedvo
The same rotating star video plays fine on my windows XP machine.
I know this is not an Adobe problem but I was wondering if anybody had any ideas?
-Pete

That would be great if I could get away from Quicktime, but unfortunately Quicktime is the industry standard. I produce stock videos and animations and the stock sites only accept quicktime format.
Maybe I'll wait until Oct 26th and buy the retail version of Windows 8 and then do a complete re-format, etc.
It's weird but it doesn't seem to matter if it's an H264, Photo JPEG, or Photo MPEG encoded Quicktime file.

  • DVD playback issue with Windows Media Player

    Hi,
This isn't an Encore specific question, rather, a DVD playback one. Has anyone had issue playing their replicated DVDs in Windows Media Player? I truly believe it's the media player, not the DVD.  When we put a DVD in the drive and try to open it in WMP, it jumps right to a video, or jumps directly to the last place we were in a video.... it's not defaulting to the main menu.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it a programming glitch on my DVD? I feel like it's a WMP issue, as it's only happening on certain computers.
    thanks.

WMP has never been a good player for DVD's. At some point in the past, much of that functionality was disabled my MS, in hopes to reduce piracy. For some versions, no burned DVD would even play, though replicated/pressed DVD's were supposed to play fine.
I use CyberLink's PowerDVD and it is fine, even with my burned DVD's. The free MediaPlayer Classic HC plays my discs well too, with full menuing.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Keynote 09 exporting to QuickTime playback issue

    Hello,
I am looking for some amazing expertise and really appreciate any help and guidance.
I've exported a presentation from Keynote 09 to Quicktime and have an issue. When I try to play the presentation in QT X, I click to advance from slide 1 to 2 and it works perfect, but then when I click to advance to slide 3 it returns me to the start of slide 1 every time. Meanwhile when I use the spacebar/quickview without opening QT the entire presentation plays perfectly.
When I look at the QT file on a PC (using a thumb drive or a CD) QT 7 the file plays correctly in my testing. I have heard from others who these CDs were provided to that some may have had a similar issue, but I can not verify.
Please let me know any additional information I can supply. Can anyone help me understand this issue better and possibly help me correct it? Is this a known issue, or a simple user error?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

    Thanks Dani and Glad...
As an update on my side:
I called in to Apple to try and find out if I jump up to Final Cut Studio (with a bit of a learning curve), if I would be able to replicate exactly the (slideshow) video I made easily in Keynote, hopefully avoiding this issue with the assumption that it is specifically related to Keynote.
Prior to getting on the line with a Final Cut expert, I did fully explain why I was calling with the hope of getting a solution for this issue as I would like to keep Keynote in my arsenal, especially since I am semi-fluent in it.
The person helping was very nice and asked to put me on hold for 3-5 minutes, which I am perfectly happy to wait for complete and accurate information. The solution I was presented with was as follows:
    1) Go to export to QT as usual.
    2) Click the second drop down (Formats) and select 'Custom...'.
    3) A new window will pop up, click the 'Settings...' button.
My 'Compression Type' drop down was set to 'H.264'....I was told to
    4) Change the 'Compression Type' to 'MPEG-4 Video.
(I do not think it is related to the fix being suggested or just as a preference, I was told to slide the Compressor - Quality slider on the bottom left to 'Best')
    5) Click the 'OK' button on the bottom left
    That window will close.
    6) Click the 'Next' button and continue with your export.
I did this and the QT file worked, unlike the original I had done. I can not confirm it isn't a hit or miss like Glad saw...but I did ask if this was a "just try this and let's see" (like Microsoft, altctldel...try restarting your machine) or if this is a known issue....it wasn't totally clear, but I was told (not exact words, but basically) there may be something funky about Keynote or QT with H.264. I don't know codecs so have no idea, but I continued....
In case I still don't feel comfortable with this "fix" (which I am not sure I do...I also made a new, but less complex video and switched back to H.264 - this one worked...) I asked to still be connected to a FC expert, just to ask my questions anyway as it would be good knowledge to have, even if just for future self development.
I again did my best to explain what was going on, and the Final Cut person did not understand how changing to H.264 would make any difference...to mention, it is possible I had a hard time getting on the same page as this person who was trying to help me so he may not have understood exactly what I was asking exactly - but he did understand my bottom line - I need to make this video that works when exported to Quicktime!
Not sure if related (would be curious if this is relevant to others here), again not being familiar with codecs, etc - I had dropped a few QT movies I was given from someone else not being sure what they used to create it. I thought a Quicktime movie is a QT move - universal standard....apparently so for playing but not for re-exporting.
I was advised to get a QT 7 Pro key so in the future I can open QT movies I am sent in QT and re-export it as a QT movie from my machine (OS, codec, etc, etc, etc) before dropping it into a project I am working on.
Being on OS 10.6 I have QT X, which does not have this functionality (as mentioned - no Pro version) and when I tried to get a QT 7 Pro key in the past I was misinformed that I wouldn't be able to install it on my machine since it is running a newer version and wouldn't let me install an outdated/older version. Apparently, this is not totally accurate - it is missing from my Utility folder, but I need to do a custom install of it (only way to do it - can't just DL it) from the 10.6 OS disk.
Please, let me know if any of this worked for you or if I can add more details I left out.
Best of luck (...for us all)!!!!
    Michael

  • Adobe Audition CS6 playback issue with Windows 8.1

After installing Windows 8.1, playback doesn't work in Audition CS6.  I've tried deleting the program and reinstalling, but did not help.  Can you help?

    Try the following:
Open Audition and select Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware.  Try changing your Default Output to any other option, click OK, then go back and change it back to your preferred setting.  You might also be able to switch the Master Clock preference at the same location, apply, then set it back.
While this is typically introduced by a change to the OS or device drivers, we are investigating to  see if we can catch this situation and resolve it for a future release.

  • Quicktime playback issues

Hello all. I know this has been posted all over the place by now, but I was hoping someone could just directly get me to where I want to be. I've noticed a few oddities in video playback since upgrading everything to 10.6.1 with QT X.
    1. Under the newest Flip4Mac (the latest upgrade after the beta that was supposed to fix the SL issues) I still cannot seek a .wmv file. The file plays but the progress bar is gray until it finishes loading. I should clarify that the video works fine when playing, it's just that I have to wait nearly as long as the video for it to completely load and enable seeking. Fixes???
    2. When I play this same file in the newest VLC I get video, seeking ability, but no audio. Even QT had the audio so that is a *** to me. Fixes?
    3. Some .avi files when playing back in QT have different audio vs video speeds, i.e. the audio doesn't match up with the rate of the video. It seems that VLC fixes this, for the ones that it'll play, but I like QT and would like to use it! Fixes??
Thanks all. I appreciate your attention.

why not try converting the clip into a different format and seeing if that makes a difference. you could use media streamclip - very easy to use. you could see how things work in a fresh factory autoload (option-new). also try monitoring the system performance both with logics monitor and with activity monitor to see if there are any spikes.
also check what settings you have for the film. what is the films frame rate, what is logics frame rate? what audio are you playing out of system (ie in-built) or an interface. you should play the audio of the film out of a different output if you can. if you can't check the sample rate of the film against the one you are using in logic.
also what settings have you got for contiguous - or non-contiguous sync? how does the audio play back when the video becomes choppy.
what are you playg the film back from - ie where is it streaming?
try setting a key command for open movie again and hit it when the film becomes choppy. does that fix the problem?
does the film become choppy after you have saved? where are you keeping your song files and the movie file? what peripherals are you running apart from keyboard and mouse?

  • Quicktime playback issues with Keynote during SLIDESHOW

SInce I upgraded to Keynote / iWork 06 I'm experiencing the following problems during the SLIDESHOW. Some of my mpeg4 QT clips get frozen for the first 2 seconds: i can only hear the sound and then the images start after a couple seconds. As I'm teaching a big film class where the clips are the most important element, this is becoming particularly annoying (particularly to the students too). I have a Poerbook G4 with 1.5 GHZ and 1.2 GB DDR.

I did a few tests (removing all builds on the slide, changing the orders, using different clips, and even having the clip start right away). Nothing seemed to work... The problem stops to occur only if I remove all the slides from the presentation except the one with the clip: in that case the clip wil play smoothly even if there are other builds in the same slide—of course, a one-slide presentation is not an option for me!

  • ITunes 10.6/Quicktime 7 1080p playback issue/frame skipping

I have a playback issue with the 1080p videos on the recent version of iTunes - 10.6. I also tried playing the same videos on Quicktime where I was able to find that the videos were playing at around 20fps as opposed to their normal rate - 24fps~25fps.
I seem to barely meet the 1080p playback requirements on iTunes, but I know that I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Window Media Player(WMP) 12 without any issues. Aside from WMP, I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Youtube whenever hardware acceleration is enabled. I assume that WMP utilizes hardware acceleration as well.
The playback issue/frame skipping is probably caused by iTunes 10.6 not using hardware acceleration.

  • WINDOWS VISTA ITUNES VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUE!!!!!! AAHHHHHHH!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

am using a Dell XPS GEN 5 PC with Windows Vista Premium Edition as the current OS installed. I have latested up date for Itunes and QuickTime (7.1.6) Installed. I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. Sometimes the sound keeps on playing, and then stops. Sometimes it just dosent even come on. I'm guessing (as a highly advanced Windows PC User) That this ia a "video/playback issue, related to a Apple/Vista Compatibility problem. I would like help solving this problem.

    hi slideaway!
my computer has a right proper meltdown, switching itself off and restarting to a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" sort of message.
good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Quicktime 7.6 video playback issues

I upgraded to quicktime 7.6 yesterday and is has caused video playback issues when in higher performance with my Macbook pro. I am trying to play 1080p footage in the h.264 compression codec and it is now stuttering. It played fine in my previous quicktime player before the upgrade and it seems to play fine in the better battery setting. The problem occurs with the 9600 nvidia chip but the 9400 works okay. This is troublesome because the 9600 should out preform the 9400.

Update: The problem only happens with MacOS 10.5.6. Running the pre-installed MacOS 10.5.5 the 9400M and 9600M displays movies smoothly using QuickTime 7.6. Disabling hardware-accelerated playback by deleting the "AppleVAH264HW.component" in "/System/Library/Quicktime" also "solves" the problem.

  • I have Windows 8.1 and just bought the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for windows and it won't install. I currently have Quicktime Pro.

I need to run Quicktime Pro and playback DVD with mpeg-2 content for school. I just downloaded Quicktime Pro, and purchased the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for Windows, but I can't download it at all. Is this because my PC is running Windows 8.1?
If so, is there anything I can do?

    What do I do?
You actually have several options. However, since you specifically want to use it it with MPEG Streamclip, the easiest approach would be to download the MPEG Streamclip "Beta" package for the Mac which includes a utility app that will help install the QT MPEG-2 Playback component on Lion and later operating systems. Instructions and background info can be found HERE under the "Lion/Mountain Lion and MPEG-2 Playback Component" tab.

  • [bug?] playback issues with QT browser plugin, any workarounds?

I've noticed a playback issue with media files using the quicktime plugin (currently v7.1.3) with Firefox 1.5.0.x and now Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP (SP2):
    Description:
When I open a media file in a separate tab or window, audio playback cuts out when I switch focus away from the tab or window (i.e. when it runs in the background). When I put the tab/window in the foreground again, playing resumes.
    Reproducible: Always
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Open an mp3 file with quicktime plugin in a new tab
    2. Switch focus to some other tab or firefox window
    Expected Results:
Audio playback should continue in the background.
    Actual Results:
Audio playback cuts out and resumes once you click on the tab containing the plugin or if you hover over it with the cursor. The cutting and resuming out doesn't happen right away but after a short delay, suggesting that it might have something to do with thread prioritization.
The file is completely buffered by quicktime, this is not about connection speed or bandwidth issues.
Opening the link to the same file with right-click->Open Link in External Application works well.
Someone else has filed a bug report against Firefox about this issue here:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339449
I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out not to be an issue with Gecko but with QuickTime.
Can other users confirm this on XP? Is this a known QuickTime bug? Are there fixes or workarounds?
    Windows XP

Yeah I had that thought as well but no joy. It works for the player but it doesn't solve my plugin problem. It really seems to be something about prioritizing, the way the audio cuts in and out - notice how it takes a few fractions of a second before a process loses its CPU cycles when you click away from it? You can observe this with System Monitor on the Mac or Linux or process explorer on XP. That's how the audio is cutting out and back in. I still think it's probably a bug/'feature' either with Gecko, the Firefox browser engine, or with the QT plugin..

    -Nick.

Do you have a SATA hard drive? I have the same problem you describe when trying to play videos in iTunes. Do the previews of music videos on the iTunes web site play OK? If they do you probably have the same problem with SATA HD and iTunes incompatibility. Not sure who is going to fix that problem and when. I have found one fix that worked for me. Copy your video(s) to a flash drive and then play them from there. It's a workaround and you shouldn't have to do it but it does allow you to watch the videos.

  • Quicktime playback, choppy.

    I have a Mac version 10.3.9.
I am using Quicktime version 7 pro.
I am having a problem with direct streaming, and even video playback when offline. It does not happen with every file, and I cannot figure out why I am having problems.
When I do have a problem, the playback is extremely choppy, and it stutters. Anyone here familiar with this problem, and know how to rectify it?
    You can email me @
    [email protected]

I am definitely noticing the same issue -- choppy /
    jerky playback.
Because I just upgraded to 7, it is certainly
possible that my codecs are not up to date. (Also,
my videos do tend to be large -- 640 by 472, for
    example.)
    Any hints on
    a) solving the jerkines problem
    b) how to discover what codecs are being used by QT
and how to upgrade them (other than visiting each
    site for upgrades).
First off, what CODEC was used for your clips?? (You've used MANY different programs to create the files - these programs can use CODECs (like DivX, for example) that QuickTime doesn't understand.) Open a clip in QuickTime Player and select Window>Show Movie Info
According to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/player/specs.html these are the supported formats Supported Video Formats:
    Animation
    Apple BMP
Apple Pixlet (Mac OS X v10.3 only)
    Apple Video
    Cinepak
    Component video
    DV and DVC Pro NTSC
    DV PAL
    DVC Pro PAL
    Graphics
    H.261
    H.263
    H.264
    JPEG 2000 (Mac OS X)
    Microsoft OLE (decode only)
    Microsoft Video 1 (decode only)
    Motion JPEG A
    Motion JPEG B
    MPEG-4 (Part 2)
    Photo JPEG
    Planar RGB
    PNG
    Sorenson Video 2
    Sorenson Video 3
    TGA
    TIFF
BTW, are you trying to play your clips from a hard drive or a CD? A video file of the size you mentioned ( 640 by 472 ) needs a data rate CD players can't supply to your computer.

  • ITunes TV download playback issues

Help - I downloaded a TV episode I missed from Lost and it plays back in a diffused screen of about 12 blocks. I tried all the fixes on Help to no avail. Any suggestions?? I can't go on w/o seeing this episode!!

Got it solved!! Thanks!! I just needed to view it in
    another program.
Just curious, what program did you use? I thought you had to use itunes or quicktime. I have also been trying to watch Lost on a Dell in Windows XP, and have been having playback issues as well.

  • Mnimum system for Quicktime playback

    Hi
We're looking to set up an music for film scoring machine.
I did some research but couldn't find any specific info about different compi configs and quicktime performance. Money is an issue so we're trying to figure out the minimum requirements to get a reliable Logic with quicktime playback machine.
Right now we're tending towards a MacBookPro or iMac DC with a Moto firewire interface (828) and a Canopus DV converter (all video will be DV)
Would this be a reliable setup or would it be better to get a G5 desktop and a dedicated PCI video card like the FuseX.
Also if adding additional firewire harddrives to the laptop or iMac would this effect the firewire i/o and firewire dv performance.
Lastly how many tracks on average can you get out of the MacBook or the iMac DC (I know that this depends on plugins etc.)
Thanks a million for any insides
    Carsten

VLC is telling you which codecs or libraries its trying to use to decode the file. Try opening MPlayer OSX, show the playlist window, drag the file into the playlist, select the file in the playlist and click the "i"nfo button. MPlayer will generally show you what it determines the data itself to be encoded as - not which codec it will use.
