Quicktime Player 10.1/MBP Retina hanging...
I got my new MBP Retina on Thursday... yesterday Quicktime Player 10.1 just stopped playing movies. I can open them, scrub them, but when I hit play, the apps hangs and the beach ball comes out, forcing a force quit...
I've tried this with various kinds of movies... I've uninstalled and reinstalled Perian and Flip4Mac, the only two QT plugins I have running... no love.
Just thought I'd see if anyone else is seeing anything similar...
Thanks in advance!
Hank.
Same thing happening to me. Very frustrating.

Why won't quicktime player work? I own Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and connote get the quicktime player to open or play quicktime movies?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update. -
MBP Retina .. Adobe Flash Player
On the New MBP Retina .. Adobe Flash Player dont works on all Sites... ( Videos )
the same When i will broadcast on Cam Roulettes Sites it open the Flash WIndow and nothing more.
Adobe dont see the Camera
What now ?Adobe was purportedly coming out with Retina-enhanced versions of Photoshop and some other of their products. Besides trying out with a reduced resolution setting, maybe checking with them when all their stuff will be Retina-friendly?

Grey screen every time with MBP Retina
Hi,
I got a strange behaviour of my MBP Retina. After upgrading to Mountain Lion it may not start. I have a grey screen, Safe Mode doesn't pass. Restore works, MBP boots OK then, can even restart and shutdown OK few times. But if the shut down period is long (more than 3-4h) I got a grey screen again.
I tried all the tricks with premissions restore, resetting PRAM, uninstalled Parallels and Little snitch, run Onyx for Mountai Lion and cleaned everything, everything from startup apps list. Nothing happens. I got a grey screen again, almost every day, then re-install the OS, and it works OK until next shutdown. SSD is OK, MBP has no hangs/freezes, works great after OSX reinstall, then again - grey screen. Verbose Mode hangs after a list of "FIPS USER Space Post" - all success, no mistakes. Before there is a message "Kernel is LP64", and the a string "/dev/rdisk0s2 (NO WRITE)"
Please, give some advise!Sorry to bring this topic again, i have the same exact symptoms in here, and i suspect that its a third party aswell bugging me around doign this grey screens. ( had this for 3 days now after shutting down it gets back to grey screen but after i do a couple of stuff i can get it back to work. )
I already have the latest firmwares etc and updates i would say.
heres the etrecheck scan. ( ignore wow open )

Brand new MBP Retina constant kernal panics
I have a new MBP Retina with Mavericks 10.9.4 installed. I have received constant kernal panics since a few days into it. It seemed as though they were being cause by the io/logic boards, but those have both been replaced now. OS has been reinstalled multiple times to no avail. BSD and kernals blamed are all over the place (Dock, WindowsServer, mds; filesystems, AppleSMBusController, IOAcceleratorFamily)
The latest kernal panic is as follows:

I've got many more where that came from. I just don't want to post a wall of text.An update on my situation.
I had my macbook pro replaced with a brand new one by Apple, which was brilliant customer service.
Before giving back the old macbook, I decided to copy all my essential documents over to a usb stick. I also formatted my time machine external drive so it was blank.
Rather than restore this new macbook using my time machine backup, I set it up as a new machine and copied just my documents from my usb stick. I then proceeded to carry out fresh installs of software I regularly use but nothing non-essential (namely Spotify, Firefox, Chrome, xCode, Adobe CS5, Squidman, MAMP and Office 2011).
For three days everything worked beautifully - until last night when I had my first kernel panic on this machine. Nothing was running apart from firefox when this panic occured. The report is below and states the process which was running was 'plugin-container' which is part of firefox.
Below is the log output:

I'm running the latest OS X Mavericks - all updated to date.
I've tested the thunderbolt display with a friends MacBook Air and I see no problems there.
Any clues what is going on? Or it this latest Kernel Panic just a coincidence compared to my previous macbook?
Thanks in advance! -
2012 MBP Repeatedly Hangs - Interpret Diagnostics?
Hello -
Can someone help me interpret the results of the diagnostic test I've run? I'm trying to isolate the cause of the sudden onset of my 2012 MBP suddenly hanging every 10-30 minutes. It doesn't matter what programs are in use or not in use or whether connected to wifi, within the last week it has consistently stopped responsiveness and reverted to beachball upon every re-boot.
Here's the results of the diagnostic:

QuickTime Error Message: "QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly"
Error Message: "QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly"
From the error report (sent to Apple):
QuickTime 10.2 (603.6)
Operation: Launch
Application Specific Information: [565] stack overflow
Hardware and software configurations:
MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display
Mac OS X 10.8.2
Affects ALL .mp4 files (double-click and attempting to open file from within QuickTime)
Occurs when attempting to launch QuickTime by double-clicking an .mp4 file, or attempting to open an .mp4 file from the QuickTime menu. Attempting to open ANY .mp4 file results with this error message.
QuickTime is the default application for all .mp4 files. Reseting this option via the Finder "Get Info" had no effect. Changing the option to another video player (e.g., MPEG Streamclip) allowed the .mp4 files to play. Returning to QuickTime as the default player resulted in same error message (i.e., "QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly").
The video files (.mp4) are not the problem; ALL of the files open within iTunes, MPEG Streamclip, and other video players. The problem appears to be limited to QuickTime or something that is interfering with QuickTime.
Note that no external drives or other peripherals are connected to the computer when this error occurs, except for a Wi-Fi connection via an Apple Time Capsule (disconnecting the Wi-Fi did not resolve the problem; same error message occurred when attempting to open an .mp4 file).
No 3rd party QuickTime plug-ins have been installed.
QuickTime was working fine and playing ALL videos until the last week. No discernible usage pattern is evident for diagnosing the reason for the error message.
Note the exact same problem is occurring on two separate MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display systems, both running Mac OS X 10.8.2
Mac OS X 10.8.2 software is up-to-date.
Rebooting the system did not rectify the problem.
Two separate computers, both exhibiting the same problem with different .mpg4 files.
Any ideas?
The consideration of a reply is appreciated.Paull71
To Apple Discussions!
You are not disturbing me. In order for anyone here to help you, you must provide details of what the problems you are having with QuickTime in order for the users here to provide proper troubleshooting suggestions.
Also, please indicate all the the troubleshooting things you have tried to solve your issue. This will eliminate the +"been there done that"+ scenarios.
If your problem is not like the one of this posting, then you will need to re-post as a New Topic so that your issue *can get more focused attention.* -
How do I get good audio feed from DVD player to my MBP using an optic cable
I have successfully recorded audio off of concert DVD's using Sound Studio 3 by connecting my DVD player to my MBP using left/right outputs to a 35mm input. I purchased an optical cable, connected it to my DVD player and used a 35mm adapter to connnect it to my MBP input. All I get is a weird popping interferance type sound instead of clear audio. Any tips on what is going on? I have correct settings in system preferences (recognizes an optical connection) but all I hear is noise?
Thanks for any help!I just use mac the ripper with the following instructions
http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1249&sid=de5cc9506c05b6ba98d6 530884489333
It gives you a few options for audio, I generally save as AAC though you can rip as AIFF and then encode into just about anything with quicktime. -
How to use music e-mail attachment coming in w QuickTime Player
I have QuickTime Player 7.1.5
When I download a music attachment from an e-mail, it comes in as Quicktime. Problem is: how do I download it to use it?
Tried to get it into iTunes, but didn't work. Went to QuickTime Player Help, which was of no help.
1) Why does a music attachment (meaning a song, or tune) come in as an e-mail QuickTime file?
2) What can I do with it?Open iTunes>Music>File>New Playlist
Drag the QT file onto the blank New Playlist window.
For burning, first you need to determine if your iMac is capable of burning (If you are not using external burning hardware.). If so, then w/iTunes still open click the burn disc symbol at the bottom of the iTunes window. iTunes will guide you from there.
For further burning instructions, read iTunes Help Menu, your OS Help Menu & check out the iTunes Forum.

On the first attempt to install v14, Flash Player v13 was installed and working fine.
I opened the installation package for the new Flash Player, followed standard protocol for installing Mac software and it hung before retrieving anything.
Subsequently, while watching the beach ball spin, I got an error message that the installer could not retrieve the v13 Flash Player software.
So I uninstalled Flash Player 13 and again attempted to install v14, only to see the spinning beach ball followed by a message that the installer could not retrieve the v14 Flash Player software.
I am running OS X v10.9.4 on an early 2013 MBP/Retina display with 3GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram.
If you have any ideas or suggestions regarding my issue, please let me know.
Sincerely.
JWHTry un-installing and then re-installing via the web site.

Windows 8 slow on MBP Retina 15
i just got MBP retina 15 and installed windiws 7 pro on it via bootcamp and win was running smoothly. I then upgraded to windiws 8 pro and it stucks/freezes frequently like if i make a new folder or sometimes oopen ny location like c drive or my documents or my pictures it just stucks and waits and waits and then opens it. I then removed entire windiows and restored partition to mac os x and then installed windows 7 and upgraded to windows 8 but i am again having same problems ... its slow in response, not always but most of the time and the mouse pointer gets busy and busy and busy and finally opens the application .... from some other blogs i have tried this with on power and on battery but the result is same !! has anyone faced such an issue and how did it get solved ??
hi all, i have found a strange thing with this issue... i have tried thsi many times and now im sure that this happening because of this .... when i use windows 8 with power plugged in then the windows gets stuck repeatedly, the mouse curser hangs and after a minute or so it starts to work but it again happens after sometime.... when i remove power (MBP running on battery) windows 8 run smoothly without any delay !!!! i have tried this even now ... i was unable to type this as it gets stuck again and again and now i ve removed power supply and now its working fine ........... has anyone experienced same thing with MBP retina 15 ???

Quicktime Player in Snow Leopard cannot download Apple HD Trailers
Hi!
I've had this same problem since couple of months ago I bought this MBP 17". I cannot watch the movie trailers from Apple. They download normally the first 45seconds (1/4 movie) or so, but then it completely stalls. The download rate drops dramatically. What can I do?
I've got 10.6.2 and all latest updates. Quicktime player is 10.0 (90.3.1). I can watch the same trailers with Quicktime on Windows. Also, curl is able to download the files easily. So, no problems in my network or the servers that I'm connecting to. Originally I thought that it might be a problem in the servers and I just figure that I'd try another day. Here is example with curl:
$ curl -A "QuickTime/7.6.2" -O http://www.apple.com/movies/fox/avatar/avatar2009aug0820a-tsr_h1080p.mov
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
100 166M 100 166M 0 0 1101k 0 0:02:34 0:02:34 --:--:-- 1245k
So, as you can see, it comes with nice 1Mb/s speed all the way. However, opening the same URL in Quicktime player only manages to load about 1/4 the file in the same time because it first starts with over 1Mb/s speed but then drops to about 150kb/s according to iStat. Basically I cannot watch any of the trailers.
So, the problem is definitely in the Quicktime player in Snow Leopard. Can't find anything with Google for this. Please, does anybody know how to get Quicktime Player to download correctly? Thanks in advance to all hints!Anybody any ideas?
Do you have access to a site having progressively playing/caching HD video files that play in the browser? It might be interesting to see if the problem was with the ISP. I recently switched to 25 mbps FIOS because my broadband ISP had thousands of correctable errors/second every time it rained and the ground became soaked. (Appears they had underground cable problems and were slow to update to above ground lines.) Finally, I just gave up and switched providers. In any case, in the test I previously ran, the playback data rate for the HD file as it played during cache downloading was in 8-9 mbps range. -
Quicktime player and system transfer
helloi I just got a brand new 15" 4g MBP today after handing
in my 15month one that died[nvidia graphics chip!!!] last night
today i transferred my old Tiger based system to my new MCP
all fine apart from the fact the new MBP came with snow leopard PRE-installed, so when it
ported everything over the quicktime pro player dissapeared,
ITS NOT in the applications or utilities and when i try and copy over an older quicktime pro player it wont run.
Im assuming its because Ive got quicktimex pre-installed??
is there anyway to get back my old export features and copy and paste?? in quicktime
as ifind this invaluable.
any help would be appreciated.
/sctYou'll need to buy the current version of QuickTime Pro to regain the extra capabilities that your old QT Pro version gave you. QuickTime is so tightly integrated into Apple's OS and applications that you can't use an old version with a newer OS.
Open the new free version of QuickTime Player and choose "Buy QuickTime Pro..." from the QuickTime menu. The upgrade costs $29.95.
There are no free QuickTime Pro version upgrades.

Why won't Quicktime Player open a .mov VR file ?
(I'm on a new MBP, with Yosemite 10.10.2, QT Player v.10.4)
Nothing opens except the app when I double click on a .mov file, the playback controls don't even come up.
This does not happen on all .mov files, but several VR files which were outputted to Quicktime.I think I figured it out:
The new osx QT (with Mavericks and Yosemiteseems to be the issue (see http://osxdaily.com/2014/07/20/run-quicktime-player-7-in-mac-os-x/)
I downloaded the older Quicktime Player 7 and the files work perfectly
