Quicktime Player 720 won't run.

Need Help - Downloaded new version of Quicktime and I can't get it to open. I get an error message saying "The application QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly".
I have deleted the file and downloaded twice with the same result. Any ideas?

  • QuickTime 7.2 won't run

I just finished upgrading from QuickTime 7.1.6 to 7.2. It was running fine before the upgrade, but now the player won't open. I get a message that says "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later. Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for QuickTimePlayer.exe." I'm running Vista Ultimate an Alienware machine and I've verified that compatibility mode is not selected.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. When I reinstall QuickTime 7.1.6, the player works fine.
Any thoughts? Anyone else having this problem?

Hmmmmm. I had a look on Alienware's support site, but i can't get though to their drivers and downloads pages unless i have a support account:
Questiona and Answers: Where can I download drivers for my Alienware computer?
If you've got a support account there, try heading through to your model page, and checking to see if there's anything newer there for your RAID controller.
(Checking on this, because in addition to the nVidia issue with SATA drives on Vista, there is a cluster of hassles associated with the way some versions of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager is interacting with Vista. I've seen at least one person get past that by using a fairly recent Intel Matrix update ... so i'm hoping that that one might have trickled through from Intel to the PC makers by now.)

  • Quicktime Player Pro won't play any movies?

Ever since I restored my computer about a month ago, my Quicktime Player won't play any video formats correctly. .avi files don't play anymore, and mp4 files only play sound with the screen black. Then when I try to close the application, I get the pinwheel for a long time, thus making me force quit every time. How can I fix this so it can play movies correctly?
(I'd also like to know how to get it to play .mka format movies as well)

    Courtney,
There are a lot of possible CODECS used with .AVI file, not all of which are available for the QuickTime player.
If you just want to play the AVI files use the free VLC media player found at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

  • QuickTime Player Document won't open

I tried opening it a few times and checked permissions, (I think they're set right) and QuickTime won't open my QuickTime Player Documents. The end part is .ml20.
    Any advice?

"checked permissions, (I think they're set right) "
Do you actually mean you checked your QT MIME settings? Asking because you really don't check permissions to set anything.
    Repairing permissions involes the following:
Save and/or quit your applications & doucuments
    Go to Applications>Utilities Folder
    Click Disk Utility
Click the Volumn (HD) that you want to check.
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button. (Don't worry about verifying)
At the bottom of window when the repairs have finished, you will see the “most important thing”:
    Permission Repairs Complete
The previliges have been repaired or completed on the selected volumn.
    Restart your computer.

  • My quicktime player window won't open

I'm running 10.3.9 on an early G-5. I've recently updated to the 7.2 version of quicktime. I click on the player icon and get no window. When I try to import a movie from the file menu, i get a prompt that says it can't open that movie. I've reinstalled Quicktime and I've used the disc utility to check the hard drive.
I now can't open my Peak program because it says it can't initialize quicktime. I need that program.
    Will someone please help me.
    Thanks

Thank you, thank you. It worked. I now have a working version of quicktime.
I'm a little hesitant of upgrading from 6.5 cause it's working now.
But now I've got another problem. Safari is not working. I had to go to explorer to thank you. I can't get a window when I click on safari. And the pull down menu works sporadically. Maybe you have a suggestion for this problem.
    I would appreciate any help.

  • Flash Player Update won't run properly on my Windows Vista / IE 9

I am having problems with updating the Adobe Flash Player. The player is installed and recognizes that an update is available. I select to download and install the update and an internet explorer window opens and I am given the opportunity to click the "Download Now" button. However once i do the screen changes for a while to a progress bar titled "Step 1 of 3" and "Initializing" which then changes to "Step 2 of 3" that shows "If you encounter any issues downloading Adobe Flash Player, Click here." but never does anything else. When I take advantage of the 'click here' option or the "Need Help?" prompt in the upper right corner I get another screen overlay showing the following. The problem is I am not getting any of the prompts shown below. It is as if the download never started. And no the prompts shown below are not really apearing and just hiding behind another open window on my screen. It seems to me that the update and download functions are broken. The same thing happens if i go directly to the ADOBE site and try to initiate the install or updates directly from there. Can someone help with this?
    1.
When File Download dialog box appears, click Run.  Security scan will run automatically.
    2.
When User Account Control dialog box appears, click Yes.
Note : If you are still unable to download Adobe Flash Player, click the Back button on your browser. Then click Install/Download now and select the option to  Save and Run.

    Hi jwklingon,
Thanks for confirming the behaviour, much appreciated.  The online installer that you were using (aih in the file name) downloads the Flash Player installer silently in the background and installs it silently.  It appears that, for some reason, the download was not occurring.  The link Andy provided has the offline installers, which are the full installers and don't download anything in the background.  Those should work on your system.  If it doesn't, please provide a screenshot of the error the displays, if any.
    Thank you.

  • What version of iTunes can I download for Windows Vista, with a QuickTime player that won't crash Windows Explorer?

I have tried installing both iTunes 10.4.1 and iTunes 10.3.1 for 64-bit Windows Vista.  They both install well, but my Windows Explorer crashes as soon as I open either of them.  I have to 'hit the emergency brakes' and hold down the power button on my laptop to stop the meltdown.  After reading other people's threads, I realized that the problem is QuickTime 7.  I still need to find out, however, if there is a 64-bit Vista version of iTunes with QuickTime 6 or lower that can still be downloaded from the Apple website.  I really like iTunes, and I have done without for about two years now.  Please help!!!

  • Quicktime 7.66 won't run

hey guys. i have a 1st gen iPod touch.
i used to run it fine, one day, iTunes updated and would crash. never got it to work since.
it's driving me crazy not being able to throw new music on my iPod, so i've began experimenting. latest iTunes + quicktime installers producers a crash at startup. no conflicts or malware, this is a recently formatted install of XP Pro SP3. anyways, standalone install of quicktime will not help either.
so i found an old install of QT 7.0.4.0
this one opens and runs great, but iTunes says it is too old, and requires 7.6 to run. HELP ME.
the crash is a normal Windows "send error report" crash.

Let's try checking to see if another program (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime in an unorthodox location on the PC. (One of the commoner symptoms in recent times of that is a "QuickTime has encountered a problem" message where the event type is a BEX.)
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in "My Computer" open Local Disk C: (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes 7.6 (or QuickTime stand alone) won't run on XP

Dear friends in iTunes Land. I thought Mac SW was supposed to be user friendly but this is the worst install I've ever faught on an XP machine. Would appreciate any insight.
... I've done all the clean uninstall/install... Install Quicktime stand alone. All of the suggested items on the list (first few pages) and still I get a Windows 'Send Error Report' popup when I launch either QT or iTunes. This is the Error Signature when I try to start Quicktime:
    EventType : BEX P1 : QuickTimePlayer.exe P2 : 7.50.61.0
    P3 : 4837c166 P4 : QuickTimePlayer.exe P5 : 7.50.61.0 P6 : 4837c166
    P7 : 0000130d P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000
I don't know what to try next... except sell my new iPod on eBay.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jason

The QuickTime problem will probably be causing the iTunes problem. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
So let's try swapping out your existing QuickTime again, taking a few additional explicit precautions.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into Add/Remove and select itunes. Click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • My Quicktime player won't startup.

    *Can anyone help me please!*
*If I want to start Itunes it says that it needs Quicktime player to start up (I know that). But the weird thing is my quicktime player is already installed on my pc. And if I start up Quicktime Player it won't start up, and after 30 seconds there comes a message Quicktime Player does not react, do you want to send this rapport or don't you want to send the rapport.*

    Thank you!
It's looking for the QuickTime.cpl in the correct place. So I think we might just be dealing with a badly broken QuickTime.
Let's try the following procedure. (My apologies, I don't have a Dutch translation for all of this.)
Download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTime installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet.)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
    Sluit QuickTime Player.
Now we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
After the PC restarts, do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the install by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
    Does QuickTime launch properly now?

  • QuickTime 7.1.6 - Crashing Finder and Crashing QuickTime Player

Hello all. I'm adding a new twist to the problems with QT 7.1.6. Here's the situation:
    1. When browsing in Finder using column view, highlighting a QuickTime movie file causes the Finder to crash and restart without giving an error message. It appears this happens while it is trying to generate the QT preview. This also happens if I browse in icon or list mode - so I can select the file - and get info on the file. Finder will crash while the preview is being generated in the info window.
    2. I have a number of QuickTime files that I encoded for iPod using VisualHub 1.23. If I open these files in QuickTime Player, the application quits running without giving an error message. Similarly, if I try to play these files in iTunes, iTunes quits running without giving an error message.
Videos downloaded from the iTunes store will play fine in QuickTime Player and iTunes, but they also cause the Finder to crash when i highlight the file or get info on the file. All files played and were 'previewable' under QT 7.1.5.
I've tried reinstalling QuickTime 7.1.6 and the Security update and the behavior persists.
Can anyone suggest options for debugging what's happening? Or point me to a how-to for reverting to QT 7.1.5?
    Thanks.

Your system info confirms you are still using OS 10.4. Check QuickTime 7 System Requirements website to make sure you meet all the requirements.

  • .MOV file won't play in QuickTime Player? QT Components?

I have a bunch of .MOV clips on my hard drive that I'd like to ultimately import to Final Cut Express (4.0.1) to edit (my wedding video!!). If I double click on the clip, it automatically opens in QuickTime Player (7.6.9), and I then prompted to a QuickTime Components website. I'm not sure why the .MOV clips won't play, since I believe I have the latest version of QT. What should I do?
Additional information on the .MOVE files: original format is MPEG HD, dimensions: 1280 x 720, Codecs: XDCAM EX 720p30 (35 Mb/s VBR) Integer (Big Endian), Timecode
    Thank you for your help!

Upon further research, I found that a certain QT plug-in is required to use XDCAM EX footage in Final Cut Express, which can be found on this website:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
I downloaded the demo, but have no idea how to use it to convert my files so FCE will accept it.  Is anyone familiar with this plug-in and what to do once it is downloaded?

  • Quicktime won't run due to "Quicktime 7.msi" cannot be found

    Hi,
My problem is described below -
Recently whenever I try to open Quicktime or run a Quicktime movie or even visit the Apple.com website, a window appears on my computer saying "Windows is preparing to install." Then it changes to "Please wait while Windows configures Quicktime 7.0" An blue indicator starts running on the window then stops. The window changes to a new message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the instillation package 'Quicktime 7.msi' in the box below." The source link shown in the box, I've never heard of before. And I had no knowledge of even using that source. The window does not go away or resolve itself, since it cannot find that file to run Quicktime. I press cancel and the message says "An installation package for the product Quicktime 7.0 cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'Quicktime 7.msi'." with a button for OK. I'm left to press that button and then the window disappears, but the Quicktime program doesn't open and won't open because this window appears everything I try to open the program.
I've tried to download the recent Quicktime Player available on Apple.com, which is Quicktime 7.5.5 (I think, but it's whatever is on the website now). I've installed that version of Quicktime. Yet the same message continues to appear. I cannot find the Quicktime 7.msi file on my computer at all, I've searched for it many times and also cannot find anything on the internet that might help. I have been using Quicktime for the entire time I've had my computer - about 2 years - and never had a problem like this. I cannot open or use anything related to Quicktime because that window would appear and I can't get past it to play anything. And I don't know where I've gone wrong to cause this issue to come up.
If you have any suggestions or resolution, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you.

Apparently windows 2000 does not meet the minimum requirements for QT7.5, so what you need to do is find out what version of QT7 does if one ever did, if not your probably going to have to install QT6.5, which may be the latest version 2000 can run?
