Quicktime player and system transfer

helloi I just got a brand new 15" 4g MBP today after handing
in my 15month one that died[nvidia graphics chip!!!] last night
today i transferred my old Tiger based system to my new MCP
all fine apart from the fact the new MBP came with snow leopard PRE-installed, so when it
ported everything over the quicktime pro player dissapeared,
ITS NOT in the applications or utilities and when i try and copy over an older quicktime pro player it wont run.
Im assuming its because Ive got quicktimex pre-installed??
is there anyway to get back my old export features and copy and paste?? in quicktime
as ifind this invaluable.
any help would be appreciated.

You'll need to buy the current version of QuickTime Pro to regain the extra capabilities that your old QT Pro version gave you. QuickTime is so tightly integrated into Apple's OS and applications that you can't use an old version with a newer OS.
Open the new free version of QuickTime Player and choose "Buy QuickTime Pro..." from the QuickTime menu. The upgrade costs $29.95.
There are no free QuickTime Pro version upgrades.

It seems to be successfully registered with "Quicktime 7 Pro" appearing under the inserted registration code but it is not showing in Applications folder and I do not know how to access it or what to do. Just got rid of them... I closed Quicktime and was asked to delete. So I deleted them. Problem solved.

Thanks for your reply. This video was recorded by my own professional camera, Sony PMW EX 3, two years back. But I am neither a professional cameraman nor an editor. I am just like a beginner in both. I didnt have space in my storage device, so I just copied all my clips, thinking I can edit it latter, without recompressing or editing or whatever I should have done it at that point of time. Now I need to edit it and use it in my profession. I am very upset. Please help me in going step by step to get it in FCP X for editing. Also I would like to know, do I need to buy the Compressor 4 for any reason. I dont mind in buying, if you think it is going to be useful for some reason. How to take 16:9 HD Movie from QuickTime player and play 4:3 letterbox

We have a movie created in Final Cut Pro in HDV, so it is 16x9 and it plays just fine having been exported as a QuickTime movie.
The idea is to distribute it to some people that have 4:3 SD televisions, so we want to make a DVD that will play in those TV's but will not cut off the sides or distort the picture - in other words, to letterbox it.
I tried creating a 4:3 project in iDVD, and dragging the quicktime movie in. It seemed to be letterboxed in the preview window, but when I burned the disc, not only was it not letterboxed, but it cut off the sides of the picture. Even playing it on a 16:9 TV had the sides cut off.
Can someone suggest how to accomplish this?

The original movie was exported from Final Cut Pro into QuickTime so it was 1920x1080 using the HDV 1080i60 codec. This resulted in a QuickTime movie file. After reading your reply I opened this .mov file in QuickTime player and exported it using the DV codec (best quality, 16x9, progressive). Under "Size" in the dialog, there was an option to "Preserve Aspect Ratio Using.." and I selected "letterbox".
This produced what looks like a DV 853x480 file that looks letterboxed. I opened a new iDVD project, selected 4:3 as the ratio (since this will be viewed on a 4x3 Tv; that is the idea of making sure it is letterboxed) and imported the new file. It came out 4x3 stretched. So I guess I did something wrong.
What should I do differently?

10.6.4 - QuickTime Player and Quick Look Helper are both crashing

Since upgrading to 10.6.4, I can't start QuickTime player (it crashes with EXCBADACCESS immediately after launch). In addition, Quick Look Helper also crashes when it tries to preview video files. I'm sure that the two are related.
It happens both with my account and a guest account.
Has anybody else seen this?

The combo update fixed. I usually always install the combo, but this time I didn't feel like doing the big download, so I skipped it, and it came back to bite me.

I recently purchased an ipad mini iOS 7.04. I would like to know if I can transfer my audio books (mp3) from my PC to my ipad and if I can how do I go about it. Also what is the audio book app to use.

When you are publishing to MobileMe, the root folder is iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites. If you have only one site in iWeb, the external version of the index.html file is published to this location.
If you have two or more sites on one Domain file then the index.html file for the top site will be present in Web/Sites.
The situation becomes more complicated if you publish two or more sites on Separate Domain files as the last index.html uploaded overwrites the previous one. This is what cause problems if one of the sites has a personal domain name.
iWeb was designed to make the website creation process as simple as possible so, the idea of uploading media files to the Media is sound in theory. In practice, we know that this is mostly useless as these music and movie files have to download with the other page files in the browser. Also they require the QuickTime plugin to play them and about 60% of PC users don't have it.
Flash players are going to be necessary for a long time to come unless the vast majority of PC users update to IE V9 or switch to a browser that actually works. My hope is that, when Google Chrome comes out of beta, it will take over as the number one browser simply because it has the Google name. I'm using it more and more because its way faster than Safari and Safari 5.0.2 has too many problems.

AE, ICC color profiles, QuickTime player and wide gamut displays

Hey there!
I was inspired by @AdobeAE 's recent tweet about color management to look further into the subject. We've historically not bothered with it, but are keen to enter the color managed world!
I started in Photoshop, doing tests with working spaces and destination spaces to get my head around how the whole thing works. One thing I quickly gathered was that our Monitors (Eizo S2243W) are wide gamut, which can create problems. For example, if you make an image in the sRGB space in PS, then save it out as a jpeg without embedding the profile, the colours become over-saturated, as any viewing application won't know how to translate the colors. Images created in the Adobe 1998 did not display the same shift when saved 'untagged' - I assume because the gamut of the monitor is closer to Adobe 1998, so even if no transformation occurs the colours are perceptually similar.
For still images all this is fine though, as you can always embed the profile so the viewing app knows how to translate the colours for your particular display.
The problem comes with video. It seems as though it is not possible to embed a color profile with, say, a ProRes QuickTime. If you create a comp in AE using the sRGB colour space, then export the movie you'll potentially have the same over saturated colour problem when viewing the resulting file on a wide gamut display.
So how is one supposed to overcome this, except for turning colour management off?

Not too many people will be watching your movie on a wide-gamut screen. You'd be better off working in an SRGB mode, if your monitor allows. Colour magement is a poisened chalice, wether you are working with still images or movies. The internet is not colour-managed and everything wide gamut will look oversaturated and garish.

Quicktime VR crash with Quicktime Player and QuickTime Plugin.plugin or

I made a few Quitcktime VR with PhotoWarp 2.5.7 and included them on web pages a year ago, everything was working.
Checking today, webpages (with QuicktimePlugin.plugin) as well as local QTVR files .mov (with QuicktimePlayer7) crashe players.
I installed Quicktime7 on WindowsXP, same thing.
I tried to find some other QTVR on the web and I found one that works even if I include it on a page of my website (???).
Example :

2.files found on the web in the same page (same code) : http://www.pxo.ch/index.php?page=72&obj=111
The second seems to work (sometimes crash anyway), but the first one is crashing everytime.
I did not find much information about the problem on the web.

It looks like the software I use to generat QTVR is out of date : PhotoWarp 2.5.7 that came with my 360°lens. I'm surprise there are still selling it... no comment.
I found then a great soft that is able to generate QTVR from a cylindric image. This soft is not only exporting .mov, but also Flash AND HTML5/CSS3 for iPhone and iPad ! I tested everything and it work perfectly.
The soft is called Pano2VR, is made by GardenGnomeSoftware, and work on every platforms.
So what I have to do now is generate cylindric images with PhotoWarp and then generate QTVR with Pano2VR... Huge work for ALL the QTVRs I have on the web !!!
Sorry Ekapon, but it's probably what you will have to do with yours...
And still no communication from Apple on this case.

How do I record my iPhone screen using the new QuickTime Player and have the sound from my voice and the game?

So I have the updated software or whatever it's called on my MacBook Pro 10.10.2 and I don't know how to record the audio of my gameplay and my voice at the same time. For example: I want to play this game on my phone and the sound is important to have for the video and me to hear. I don't know how to have the gameplay sound for me and the video, and how to record the game sound and my voice? If this makes any sense please help me

QuickTime 7.1.6 - Crashing Finder and Crashing QuickTime Player

Hello all. I'm adding a new twist to the problems with QT 7.1.6. Here's the situation:
1. When browsing in Finder using column view, highlighting a QuickTime movie file causes the Finder to crash and restart without giving an error message. It appears this happens while it is trying to generate the QT preview. This also happens if I browse in icon or list mode - so I can select the file - and get info on the file. Finder will crash while the preview is being generated in the info window.
2. I have a number of QuickTime files that I encoded for iPod using VisualHub 1.23. If I open these files in QuickTime Player, the application quits running without giving an error message. Similarly, if I try to play these files in iTunes, iTunes quits running without giving an error message.
Videos downloaded from the iTunes store will play fine in QuickTime Player and iTunes, but they also cause the Finder to crash when i highlight the file or get info on the file. All files played and were 'previewable' under QT 7.1.5.
I've tried reinstalling QuickTime 7.1.6 and the Security update and the behavior persists.
Can anyone suggest options for debugging what's happening? Or point me to a how-to for reverting to QT 7.1.5?

Your system info confirms you are still using OS 10.4. Check QuickTime 7 System Requirements website to make sure you meet all the requirements.

Quicktime won't open and system sound is muted

This is a strange one...
My Macbook Pro's sound is locked on mute and none of my quicktime files will open... kicking back an error -101.
I've scoured all over the net, and I've seen things about headphone jacks showing red light and pluging and unpluging headphones in to make it work... no dice. But along that same line, if I plug in my TwelveSouth Base jump speaker, suddenly I regain volume control and quicktimes will open... and play. Sound will come through the basejump speaker, but not the built in. But as soon as I unplug this USB powered speaker... Qucktime won't open any more new files, and the ones that were open will no longer play. Pluging in the speaker... quicktime playback is restored. But still the built-ins won't work.
This problem cascades to iTunes as well.... won't play any songs. You press play, and nothing happens, the head doesn't move... truly nothing. the application acts as if the play button doesn't work.
I've never heard of a problem like this, it's like the core system is expecting an external component to do basic function in regards to audio.

I just bought the iSkysoft Media converter and after converting 3 videos I have, it simply blocked sound for
iTunes, QuickTime Player and any app the uses media, for example Keynote.
The error is this one you guys are reporting: An unknown error occurred (-101)

I need to retrieve my quicktime movies and make them wmp compatible. I only have the QT Player and it will not allow me to export. Suggestions?

I just have to QuickTime player and somehow the last movies I synched from my iPhone (3Gs) were done in .MOV instead of .wmp format. I haven't had an issue with this before. It won't allow me to export and I can copy, but it will not paste into another program. I have tried the codec downloads. I'd like to refrain from purchasing Quicktime Pro if at all possible. I just want to burn these movies to DVD.

Two of my external drives both stopped working. One was for the original file the other was a back-up. The movies are NOT in the library. I just get the word downloaded next to the movie which will not activate when I try to click it on the "download previous purchases" screen. The ones with the iCloud icons are more recent downloads.

QuickTime player won't close and won't allow me to shutdown

I Have a MacBook Pro 11,1 - 2.6 GHz i5...IOS 10.9.5...8 GB memory...1600 MHz DDR3. My QuickTime v.10.3 won't shutdown and won't allow me to shutdown my MacBook pro.

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, select the QuickTime Player, and press the Force Quit button. If that doesn't work, save and close everything you can and use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit the loginwindow process.
