Quicktime player... can't find export function

I recorded a new audio file using the Quicktime player 10 on my Macbook, but when I go to "File", there is no "Export" function.
When I choose "Save As" my only options are to save the file as a .mov or for the iphone. Why is there no functionality for me to export my audio file as an m4a (m-peg)?
After reading various online tutorials, I used iTunes to convert my file to an m4a file, but it came out at 42 MB, more than twice the size of the original .mov!! How can I save my audio file (which was about 20 min) as a smaller sized audio file (either mpeg or mp3)? Also, is there a difference in saving it as mpeg or mp3? (That is, if I do need to download another converter, which should I convert to? an Mpeg or Mp3?)
Thanks!

QuickTime version 10 doesn't include any export options.
iTunes can make an AAC version which will be as small as an .mp3 file.

Media formats supported by QuickTime Player
QuickTime Player natively supports the following media formats and codec components. You can also extend QuickTime to support additional codecs and components.
Below are the media formats and codecs that QuickTime Player can play back in Mac OS X v10.6.x or later:

  • I keep getting "The application QuickTime player can't be opened" -1712

I just upgraded to Lion on Thursday, and now I can't open QuickTime. Whenever I try to, I get the message "The application QuickTime player can't be opened" -1712
    Any ideas?

Same here. I never had to download Adobe Reader when I was using Snow Leopard in order to open PDF's - it's supposed to be a built in feature of OS X to be able to click and open any PDF. Now I have to go and use external software (that's supposed to be built in already into the OS X) in order to open my files. I think this is a bug that Apple needs to sort out asap.

  • HT3523 hello, this is the error I get when I try to play a video QuickTime Player can't open "solea-antonio-walter.mov" because a required codec isn't available. Any idea what I need to do? thank you

    Hello,
This is the error message I get when I try to watcha burnt dvd, can anyone tell me what I need to do?
    thank you
QuickTime Player can't open "solea-antonio-walter.mov" because a required codec isn't available.

Quicktime X is a great little piece of software. However, Quicktime X is very finicky on which codec/file format it can decode/play.
Luckily, there are DOZENS of alternative video/media players and extensions available for the Mac. Some of them are even FREE. Some of the better FREE ones include...
    PERIAN (quicktime extension)
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/22923/perian
    QUICKTIME 7.6.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
    VLC Media Player

    NICEPLAYER
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15136/niceplayer
... And if none of those work, there is a possibility that, that video file may be corrupted.

  • Real player can't find mp3s on my Zire 72

I have mp3s on the 2gb card in my Zire 72 but it can't find them to play them. looking at the card from the Palm OS it shows nothing on the card and Real player can't find any of the songs either. What's wrong, does my OS need an update or something?
BTW, what is the maximum SD card the Zire 72 can read?
    Post relates to: Zire 72

The Zire72 can use a 2gb standard SD card (not an SD HC one!)

Did you put the mp3's into the /AUDIO folder on the card?  Are you sure they are truly mp3 format, and not .wma?

  • Just bought an apple iMac went to import music cd only to discover it doesn't have a cd/DVD player can't find any on the apple site what do I need to buy to import cd into ITunes

,Just bought an apple iMac went to import music cd only to discover it doesn't have a cd/DVD player can't find any on the apple site what do I need to buy to import cd into ITunes

Get the Apple USB Superdrive. It is available on the Apple store page of the Apple web site. Just look under storage on the left hand column under accessories for the Mac.  $79.  I have one since I have a lot of DVD's and CD' s. I burn DVD's made from movies created with iMovie.  Works fine. You may be able to find one cheaper at Other World Computing.
BTW, you can expect that future computers will not have optical disk drives. This is definitely true for Apple and I suspect other mfgrs will also as we move more into streaming video and downloading of apps rather than selling CD/DVD versions.

  • QuickTime Player can't open "file.mp4"

My husband completed a movie in iMovie 10.0.5. When he tries to open said movie in QuickTime Player 10.3 he gets a window that says,
QuickTime Player can open FlyIn.mp4 (FlyIn is the name of the movie, obviously). We tried QuickTime Player 7.6.6 found in Utilities
and the mp4 is not even recognized so we can attempt to open. He's running Mavericks.

    Hi
i have installed and tried converting a file with "smart converter".  I immediately get this error "THE OPERATION CAN'T BE COMPLETED OPERATION 1"  I have tried this on multiple files and no luck.  What do you suggest?  Attached is a screen shot.

  • Save as quicktime file so quicktime player can be used after right-click

    Hey,
I'm adding short .aiff's to a site for people to right click and save.
-I'm making the .aiff using logic express.
    -Bouncing to desktop.
-Changing file to "open using quicktime player" which makes the file look like a quicktime file with the big "Q" on it. When I double click on the file, it opens with quicktime player.
-Creating text box and linking .aiff (actually they are .aifc) file to text box, just regular stuff for creating links for files.
-After I publish site to folder. When I go in and right click on the link to save to desktop, the file I thought used quicktime player becomes an itunes .aiff file with the itunes colors (green) and opens using itunes, thus adding the file to my itunes library.
I'd like people to be able to just open the .aiff and quicktime player would automatically play the file, this way unwanted stuff won't be added to itunes library.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks, byt
ps, I've been looking up the difference between .aiff and .aifc. It looks as if they are about the same except you can compress .aifc. Does it really matter which is which if you're not compressing or anything and just clicking and playing?
imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Woodwinds, presonus firebox, Garageband and Logic Express, iweb

I thought used quicktime player becomes an itunes
.aiff file with the itunes colors (green) and opens
using itunes, thus adding the file to my itunes
    library.
I think this is a function of how someone's browser is set up or maybe system preferences that associate file types with certain default applications. For instance, you can take the .aiff file on your desktop that is currently associated with iTunes (and has the iTunes icon)....right click on it and select "Open with..." In the opened window select QuickTime player and then check the "Always Open With" box. This will make QuickTime player the default player of .aiff files instead of iTunes. So you see how it is a user defined variable in terms of which application opens which document.
I'd like people to be able to just open the .aiff and
quicktime player would automatically play the file,
this way unwanted stuff won't be added to itunes
    library.
An alternative would be to convert your sound files to .mov files that will by system default be opened by QuickTime player directly...just like iTunes is the system default for .aiff sound files.

  • New quicktime player:  can I move the play buttons off the video?

Can I organize the Quicktime player like the old version?  With the play buttons / time line on the bottom, outside and away from the video?
E.g., I do not want the play buttons / time line to "float" over the video window. It's distracting for times when I need to pause and scroll over video to find certain spots.  It is really in the way.
    Quicktime 10.1
    Mac OS 10.7.3

Wow, that is unfortunate.  It's really annoying to have that in the screen.
Do you know if Quicktime Pro has the same thing?  If so I won't spend the money for it.
    thanks

  • How can we find formula function in Payroll Formula

    Guys,
As far as concern regarding oracle functionality is very vast in particularly in payroll process, mostly functions are built-in to avoid user to create any custom code, but it is not fully covered business requirement. Therefore we need to create our custom function to cover/validate our business need and for this purpose we register this function in formula function, that is the easiest way to add any condition in payroll formula by calling this. Now my requirement is that to find formula name where this function has been used.
Let's suppose any of user is created “X” formula through this functionality and called in payroll formula’s how can we find formula name wherever this function has been called.
    Please suggestion

That's a good question. Fast Formula text is stored as a LONG data type which is now a deprecated data type. You can write a PL/SQL utility function to convert the text to a VARCHAR2 and search that but that has two problems:
    1) It assumes you have permission to create a function, which isn't something you'll likely have on a production database
    2) It'll barf for any formula in excess of 32760 bytes
You can also use the to_lob function to copy the contents of ff_formulas_f into a new table (with a CLOB data type) and then create an Oracle text index to quickly search the CLOB. But again that assumes you have write access.
If you're patient then you can also run this hideous piece of SQL:
    SELECT ff.formula_name
    ,ft.formula_type_name
    ,src.text source_plsql
    FROM ff_formulas_f ff
    ,ff_formula_types ft
    ,ff_functions fff
    ,all_source src
    WHERE ff.business_group_id IS NOT NULL
    AND ff.formula_type_id = ft.formula_type_id
    AND src.name = 'FFP' || to_char(ff.formula_id) || '_' || to_char(ff.effective_start_date, 'DDMMYYYY')
    AND src.type = 'PACKAGE BODY'
    AND lower(text) like '%' || lower(fff.definition) || '%'
    AND trunc(sysdate) BETWEEN
    ff.effective_start_date AND ff.effective_end_date
    AND upper(nvl(fff.alias_name, fff.name)) = upper('XXC_MY_FFFUNC');
(replacing 'XXC_MY_FFFUNC' with the name of the Fast Formula Function you wish to search). Don't expect it to be fast. What this does is search the generated PLSQL rather than the source formula text. This only looks for customer-defined Fast Formula (those with business_group_id set).

  • Where can I find Export/Import scripts?

    Hello,
I have read in Oracle9iAS Portal Export/Import document about these scripts:
    secexp.csh
    contexp.csh
    pageexp.csh,
but I can't find them.....can you help me?
    In which directory are they?
    Thanks in advance.

The upgrade scripts are available at:
    http://technet.oracle.com/support/products/iportal/support_index.htm
They say they are for Solaris, but they include the code for NT also. We have used these scripts to upgrade EA to prod on NT with no problems.

  • Quicktime Player can't convert .avi files

So I have a project where we have to make a trailer for a book of our choice and I was assigned video editor. A group member sent me some footage we had gotten with an old flip. I downloaded it but quicktime player couldn't open it. It told me to see if addittional software is available that will enable quictime player to open the movie, I clicked on Tell Me More but it provided not very useful as I would have to pay money. Any way I can get quicktime player to open the video so I can view it, save it, then edit it on iMovie?

Try installing Perian even if not prompted. You can also obtain more information by opening it in MPEG Streamclip and choosing Show Stream Info from the File menu; this will say exactly what format the video is in.

  • Why my quicktime player can't play an mpeg file

I have a quicktime player that goes with snow leopard mac-os, but this does not play with an mpeg file dvd

QuickTime X and QuickTime Player 7.6.6 can't play MPEG-2 formats without additional software.
DVD Player should be used, instead.
