Quicktime Player-Cannot Capture

Had no problem with Quicktime new screen recordings until the last couple of days.  It starts to record fine and then about 50 mins to 1 hour 30 mins it comes up with a box saying "Cannot Capture" and just stops recording!!  Anybody have this problem?  I have Mountain Lion.  Thanks.

I'm capturing the whole screen and using the internal microphone for sound.
I keep checking but still have the same problem.
I noticed that there was a recent security update 2013-003 which had an effect on Quicktime, I wonder if this is causing the problem? Can anybody shed any light on this?
I have attached an image below of what pops up when it just stops recording.

The title above is an exact clip from error message rcvd when quicktime loads after clicking on a web hyperlink.  I enjoy the simplicity of a mac and don't like having to make things work smoothly myself.
The error as quoted doesn't show up when searching the quicktime section of this forum, so I'm contributing it for all the other users who experience the same show-stopper and will appreciate a solution that doesn't require too much more than just Apple>Software update, or some similar scenario.
p.s. I saw some solution mentioning components out of date.  I have no idea, nor wish to know about these.  Hope I don't have to go there!

    1. There isn't a window player for the MAC.

    Hi,
I have a problem to play "mov" file.
    regards,

As Linc said, download VLC media player. Quicktime has limited codecs and would require a plugin to play .mov files, but I personally prefer VLC over any plugin available.

  • HT5409 Avchd files *.MTS are not recognized by QuickTime Player in OS X 10.8.3

I have some acvhd files named as 00036.MTS and they play pretty good with VLC. I got all excited when I read that in OS X 10.8.3 that the QuickTime Player will have support for avchd files. I just upgraded three machines to OS X10.8.3 a Macbook Air, Mac Mini and an iMac, when I click on an a 00036.MTS file it defaults to VLC and if I right click and select to use an application to use QuickTime does not display. If I select all applictaions then select QuickTime, I am told QuickTime may not recognize this format. I click ok and get, "The document "00036.MTS" could not be opened, QuickTime Player cannot open files of this type. The avchd files have been created with a Sony camera.
What do I need to do to get this to work?
    Walter

It looks like you need to keep them packaged in their file hierarchy, not open the .mts files directly. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5409

  • Video aspect ratio looks wrong in Quicktime Player

When I export a movie as a Quicktime file (ending in .mov) and then play the movie using the Quicktime Player, the aspect ratio (4:3) of the movie looks wrong, as if it is "squished down" vertically. If I open the file in FCE, the movie looks normal.
The same thing used to happen with the .mov movie file that older versions of iMovie used to create; in Quicktime Player the aspect ratio looked wrong. In this case, if I open the original QT clips (created by iMovie during import) in the Player, they looked normal. It was only if I opened the .mov file created by iMovie that referenced all those clips (in the order they appeared in the sequence) that the aspect ratio was odd. If I open any of those items directly in FCE they look normal.
I think this is behavior of the Player and not a problem with FCE (or iMovie) or the video file. I'm just wondering why this is happening and if there's any way to make the Player show the movie with the correct aspect ratio.
    Thanks!

    Hi Tom:
Affected video was imported in one of two ways:
    (1) From an old Digital8 Sony camcorder, using DV-NTSC 32Khz, directly captured into FCE.
    (2) From a Canon GL2 camcorder, using Firewire Basic DV-NTSC (48Khz), captured using an old version of iMovie. The video clips are imported into FCE and rendered.
Affected video is either exported from FCE using Export>Quicktime Movie..., or is not exported at all but simply viewed in the Quicktime Player after capture. That is, capturing from within FCE, quitting FCE, finding the captured video, and opening it in Player.
Recall that the video aspect ratio also looks wrong when playing the Quicktime file generated by iMovie (which references but doesn't contain the actual video clips), but the ratio looks right when playing the actual clips found in the Media folder, within the iMovie project folder.
However, I also have some video that I captured from the Canon for a wedding, and when I play that captured file in Player, it does NOT appear to have the wrong aspect ratio, so I'm a bit confused why this might vary.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Unable to capture Mini DV footage through quicktime player 7

I am using the "new movie recording" window on quicktime player 7 to try and capture a tape. However every time I try I get an error message telling me:
This message shows after about every 2 seconds of recording which is strange as it the sort of thing you would expect to see if you unplugged a cable half way through. However this is not the case and i have run a cleaning tape through he camera so it is not that.
Is there a solution to this so I can record the whole tape into one MOV file rather than thousands of 2 second ones? I tried with Quicktime Player X and got the same thing happen with an even less detailed error message.
Possibly recording through an external screen if thats possible?

I suspect that QuickTime's error-checking is stronger than whatever is used in the camera. QT is probably detecting breaks in the timecode than the camera doesn't see.
Tapes can curl for many reasons: age, heat, cold, humidity, etc.
If you can get it to run on your Mac, Mitz Pettel's old Vidi application (http://www.mitzpettel.com/) is great for ignoring timecode breaks. Vidi runs well on my 10.4 PPC Mac; unpredictably on my 10.6 Intel Mac. I don't know how well/whether it works on newer versions of OS X.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

If anyone is running 10.8. or later, then they might have to right or control click on the installer or app to "Open" to bypass Gatekeeper controls at least once, then it learns it's a ok to be trusted program.

You're on the right track, because this one is usually (at the moment) a compatibility problem. But if you're getting this when launching iTunes, instead try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

  • Quicktime Player in Snow Leopard cannot download Apple HD Trailers

    Hi!
I've had this same problem since couple of months ago I bought this MBP 17". I cannot watch the movie trailers from Apple. They download normally the first 45seconds (1/4 movie) or so, but then it completely stalls. The download rate drops dramatically. What can I do?
I've got 10.6.2 and all latest updates. Quicktime player is 10.0 (90.3.1). I can watch the same trailers with Quicktime on Windows. Also, curl is able to download the files easily. So, no problems in my network or the servers that I'm connecting to. Originally I thought that it might be a problem in the servers and I just figure that I'd try another day. Here is example with curl:
    $ curl -A "QuickTime/7.6.2" -O http://www.apple.com/movies/fox/avatar/avatar2009aug0820a-tsr_h1080p.mov
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
    100 166M 100 166M 0 0 1101k 0 0:02:34 0:02:34 --:--:-- 1245k
So, as you can see, it comes with nice 1Mb/s speed all the way. However, opening the same URL in Quicktime player only manages to load about 1/4 the file in the same time because it first starts with over 1Mb/s speed but then drops to about 150kb/s according to iStat. Basically I cannot watch any of the trailers.
So, the problem is definitely in the Quicktime player in Snow Leopard. Can't find anything with Google for this. Please, does anybody know how to get Quicktime Player to download correctly? Thanks in advance to all hints!

    Anybody any ideas?
Do you have access to a site having progressively playing/caching HD video files that play in the browser? It might be interesting to see if the problem was with the ISP. I recently switched to 25 mbps FIOS because my broadband ISP had thousands of correctable errors/second every time it rained and the ground became soaked. (Appears they had underground cable problems and were slow to update to above ground lines.) Finally, I just gave up and switched providers. In any case, in the test I previously ran, the playback data rate for the HD file as it played during cache downloading was in 8-9 mbps range.

  • Tip: Quicktime Player capturing DV audio w/ video from firewire to New Movie

I am posting this as a new thread in hopes that it will help someone in the future, since it took me quite a bit of googling to find this info and it points to a very idiosynchratic and counter-intuitive behavior of Quicktime Player. This solution is from user jonmanheim  - thank you!
Re: Trying to capture both video and audio to Quicktime Pro from DV camera
Just figured it out.  A little wacky.  You have to open a new Movie Recording window in QT AFTER playback starts on the camera or audio doesn't get recorded.  If you first open a New Movie Recording window and THEN start playback, no audio from QT - either during playback on the speakers or during recording.

    Don,
Put your 32khz clip in the timeline and select Export>Quicktime Movie Current Settings >Audio Only
Give it a useful name .e.g. Myclip audio.mov
Open up Quicktime Pro & import the file.
    In QTP, Export>Sound to AIFF>Options>Compressor None>48khz/16bit/Stereo
    Save the file
Once back in FCP - import the newly created AIFF file, Unlink the Audio from the Video of your clip, delete the audio from the timeline and put your new audio clip in the delete one's place and Relink the audio and video.
    Good luck.

  • Cant Capture Screen Recordings with QuickTime Player for making  App Previews

cant Capture Screen Recordings with QuickTime Player for making  App Previews
    went into that page:
    https://developer.apple.com/app-store/app-previews/imovie/Creating-App-Previews- with-iMovie.pdf
upgraded to quick time 7 pro
    got stuck here:
" 4. In the window that appears, select your iOS device as the Camera and Microphone input source".
the window appeared, no selection is possible

The instructions in the Developer page you link contemplates that you are using the QTX version instead of QT7 Pro:
    vs.
QT7 Pro does not allow selection of iOS devices as the Camera and Microphone
 input source.
QTX is the QT version included with Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and later.  However, as explained in the Developer page you linked above, if your Mac is not already using it, you need to upgrade to the current (OS X 10.10 Yosemite) OS X Version to use iOS devices as the recording sources in QTX.

  • Can't get quicktime player to play captured FCE movies

we updated our groups computer to a mini with lion. We captuer movies with FCE 4.1 using fire wire or s-vidio. It all works fine (capture save etc) in FCE. The problem is when you want to pre-view them from the desktop. When you double click the cip (which is shown as data type: quicktime movie) quicktime player opens, but will not play the clip. if i transfer the file to an external drive and then put that drive on a computer with snowlepord, quicktime player 10 plays the clip fine. What do i need to do or fix quicktime player in lion? I suppose i can download quicktime 7 pro from an Snowlepord machine, but i would like to get lion's player to work

re-read my post and i must clarify it just a bit. The sound plays on the mini with lion, but no picture. The rest is still true. Again if anyone can help i would appreciate it.
