Quicktime player in new emails

If I drag & drop an AIFF or MP3 file onto the Mail icon on the Dock, a new email opens and displays the embedded player. But if I drag & drop the same file into an existing new mail window (or use the Attach button), it displays as an icon, and "View in place" on the popup menu is grayed out. Any ideas?

Anybody any ideas?
Do you have access to a site having progressively playing/caching HD video files that play in the browser? It might be interesting to see if the problem was with the ISP. I recently switched to 25 mbps FIOS because my broadband ISP had thousands of correctable errors/second every time it rained and the ground became soaked. (Appears they had underground cable problems and were slow to update to above ground lines.) Finally, I just gave up and switched providers. In any case, in the test I previously ran, the playback data rate for the HD file as it played during cache downloading was in 8-9 mbps range.

  • Quicktime player chrashing when i try to make new recording

    Hi,
I installed Iweb 08 a couple of days ago (the only thing that have changed on my system) and now quicktime player crashes when i try to make a new recording (both video and audio).
Have tried to repair permissions and disk, reinstalled quicktime and trash the prefs but no go....
I noticed when installing Iweb that the ilife installer also installs new system components including quick time ( cant seem to find what is actually added or changed), so is there a way of uninstalling this??
I can live without Iweb for no but not with a dysfunctional quicktime player.....

I have this same issue, and have had it ever since I upgraded to QT pro. I haven't installed iLife '08 however, so there must be a common issue somewhere here. There isn't much more than novel use for this feature for me, however, since I use final cut studio for video editing and such - but it would be a nice feature to have for quick captures.
If anyone finds out anything about this please let me know,
    [email protected]
    Thanks,
    -David

I would like to ask the following question. I am using mac os x 10.9 maverics me quicktime player version 10.3. Can I trim a video recording without having to press the pause or save it as a file? Or can I add a new recording to a video file? Thanks in advance

    Well,
I tried the "Internet Recovery" option and finally saw Mac OS X Mountain Lion's install page but after waiting 7 hours when I just thought its going to start installing, I got another progress bar with 36 hours remining time to download "Additional Components" then after progressing 2-3 hours, it shows "Unable to write installation something..., Contact Apple Care"
Then I accidently rebooted the machine and now it seems Internet Recovery don't work anymore, it shows "support.apple.com - 40 something!" error, and finally when I tried to reboot using Recovery HD, I found it's gone as-well!
To be honest, I don't know what to do now, I am and dissapointed... also I do not have any Apple Store nearby, there is an authorized country reseller almost 650/km far away from my residents and they even charges too high (like $250) for doing such repairs (as per phone conversation)
If anyone have any idea or anything to help me with, please do share- I'd be eternally grateful!

  • Adobe player and reader -updates and now cannot open new Email, reply Email or attached PDF's. Fix?

On my Windows PC, Win 7, 64 bit, I have Adobe Reader and Adobe Player.
a week or two or more I have had messages of Adobe updates and downloaded and installed them, but I think after these (could also be after Windows updates) I cannot open a new Email, cannot reply to an Email, and cannot open a PDF attached to an Email.
Earleir I think there was a message in the box on the screen that the cause was  .. "101.1" or similar.
I have worked through Adobe suggestions in settings and downloaded again etc, but still can't find an answer to the problem.
I suspect it is a simple fix but I can't find it.
I also have AVG virus, PC tune etc running.
Also, (maybe  connected?), in this time I have also been finding the PC will seize - seems like it is overloading the processor and will then either shut down, or I will have to shut it down and restart. This also seemed to happen on my last PC system and it seemed to be connected with Norton anti virus starting and overlaoding the processing, which was why  I changed to AVG, but although I had Norton still on this PC (removed yesterday)it was not paid, although it was active and often sent up warnings to renew the subscription.
Would like a fix if anyone knows how

Having multiple virus checking software can cause all sorts of problems. I have no idea what PC tune is. There is no Adobe software called Player. Perhaps Flash Player. Problems with Flash Player can be addressed here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer/installing_flashplayer
As to problems with Reader, I would suggest the Adobe Acrobat/Reader Cleaner software then re-installing Reader from scratch:

Get the latest version of Reader here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise

  • Assembling jpg files to make mov in New Quicktime Player

In previous versions of OS X QuickTIme Player (after paying for added features) I could assemble quick time movies from a folder containing sequential jpg files created by a FDTD simulation program to from a .mov file. It doesn't appear that this feature is in the new QT player (shiftappleO). Can this be done in the new QTPlayer ? If so how.
    Thanks

Well trying to install QTPlayer 7 on OSX10.6.1 the installer balks at replacing QTPlayer X. I guess I could try trashing QTPlayer X first but this is annoying. Have to live with an obsolete QT I guess.
No tick in QTPlayer X to assemble jpgs into a .mov ?

  • Why can't I open mp4 movies in my new QuickTime Player. I just upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I recently upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. When I opened one of my movie clips in mp4 file it was opened by my MPEG Streamclip and not with the new QuickTime Player that came with the new OS. I need to manually open the Quicktime Player and Open file the mp4 movie I want to play it. I have no problem with the QuickTime Pro that  I was using in my previous OS before I upgraded. I did not encounter this problem, however, with my iMac Intel when I upgraded it to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The Quicktime Player in my iMac Intel automatically opens my mp4 movies. Only my flv files are opened automatically by my MPEG Streamclip as I expected to. Why?

how do i change my quicktime player default back to quicktime 7 as my new quicktime won't play  certain formats

Select one of those files, CMD+I, select QT 7 from the Open With list, and then click the Change All button. Repeat for any in the format class you want to change.

  • Tip: Quicktime Player capturing DV audio w/ video from firewire to New Movie

I am posting this as a new thread in hopes that it will help someone in the future, since it took me quite a bit of googling to find this info and it points to a very idiosynchratic and counter-intuitive behavior of Quicktime Player. This solution is from user jonmanheim  - thank you!
Re: Trying to capture both video and audio to Quicktime Pro from DV camera
Just figured it out.  A little wacky.  You have to open a new Movie Recording window in QT AFTER playback starts on the camera or audio doesn't get recorded.  If you first open a New Movie Recording window and THEN start playback, no audio from QT - either during playback on the speakers or during recording.

    Don,
Put your 32khz clip in the timeline and select Export>Quicktime Movie Current Settings >Audio Only
Give it a useful name .e.g. Myclip audio.mov
Open up Quicktime Pro & import the file.
    In QTP, Export>Sound to AIFF>Options>Compressor None>48khz/16bit/Stereo
    Save the file
Once back in FCP - import the newly created AIFF file, Unlink the Audio from the Video of your clip, delete the audio from the timeline and put your new audio clip in the delete one's place and Relink the audio and video.
    Good luck.

  • What's the skinny on the new "improved" Quicktime Player?

OK, I'm working on several edit systems (including my personal system in the home office) which have just been upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.5 in most cases).
Instead of good old Quicktime 7.x Pro, now I have something called "Quicktime Player X". Has NO pro features (specifically, Export), and a couple of dubious additions (thanks, I could already capture screens and record all the audio I wanted using other apps).
I use QT Pro to do quick exports and format conversions without tying up FCP or using Compressor (for instance, I STILL don't see a .wmv setting in Compressor...). I had the tech at one client re-install QT7 Pro because that's how I want to work...
Is it possible to make this QT-X "pro", so it does all the stuff QT7 did? Or failing that, what's the new procedure that the geniuses from Cuppertino want us to use now?

Is it possible to make this QT-X "pro", so it does all the stuff QT7 did?
No, not at this time. QT 7 represents a decade of "old technology" enhancements. QT X is a "new technology" re-write and is still in its infancy. (I.e., definitely "not ready for prime time" yet.) As such, it will likely continue to evolve over the next decade.
Or failing that, what's the new procedure that the geniuses from Cuppertino want us to use now?
Can't speak for Apple, but most of the regular QT 7 Pro users simply continue to use it. If your system was upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard by yourself and previously had QT 7 Pro installed, it should have been moved from the "Applications" folder to the "Utilities" folder automatically. If a new system and the QT 7 Player is not already installed in the Utilities folder ready for keying for Pro use, then you can install it from your included discs or download the Snow Leopard compatible version of the QT 7.6.6 Player from Apple's site HERE. Be advised that you must use a QT version modified for the dual 32-/64-bit mode environment and not the regular QT 7.6.6 version for Leopard.

  • Is QuickTime Pro being phased out and replaced by new quicktime player ?

Where are scrub bar edit points and what is happening to Pro version since the new Quicktim Player app?

Where are scrub bar edit points and what is happening to Pro version since the new Quicktim Player app?
I haven't seen all that many changes to QT 7 Pro since the introduction of Lion and the default turning off of legacy codecs. Since you use the term "scrub bar," I assume you are referring to the play progress bar and playhead control which can be used for scrubbing content, as well as, the setting of "in" and "out" editing points. As you can see by the image below, the bar and editing pointers are still available and functioning under Mavericks as they have been since the context adaptive change several years/systems ago.
In addition, for those who prefer it, the Jog Shuttle contol is still available in the QT 7 A/V control panel.
As to your original topic question, only Apple knows what its timetable may be for the final phasing out of the QT 7 Player/Pro Player software. And, while it is likely that it will eventually be replaced, I for one, can at least hope that this won't take place until such time as Apple has actually developed viable software with the same editing features and capabilities. However, at this time, QT 7 Pro remains compatible with Apple's choice of a long-term, highly scalable default system video compression format—MPEG-4 AVC. Since the handwriting was effectively "written on the wall" in 2005 when Apple chose to use this format on the iPod Classic 5th Gen mobile device, I began migrating to this format at that time. As a result, I have had little problem in terms of compatibility issues over the years. My only real regret is having to re-compress my files each time Apple increases maximum resolutions, efficiency, or adds options and, with the advent of 4K and Real 3D, expect this trend will continue in the future. But, at least for the present, my files remain dual compatible with both classic QT 7 and new QT X based apps, system features like QL, and all current mobile/remote viewing devices.

  • QuickTime Player: New Screen Recording question

When creating a New Screen Recording, it is possible to only record the audio coming from the speakers and NOT record the audio in the room where the macbook is sitting?

Soundflower allows you to route system audio into an application.
Install Soundflower-- http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ (instructions for use) and http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/downloads/list (application)-- to add system audio (core audio) inputs to the line-in and microphone options already present in QuickTime Player (i.e., QuickTime 10).   Once it's installed,
    1. System Preferences > Sound > Output.  Select Soundflower (2ch).
    2. Open QT and begin a New Screen Recording.  In the Screen Recording window, click the dialogue triangle on the right.  Under Microphone, select Soundflower (2ch).
    3. Begin your screen recording.
Note, however, that you won't be able to hear system audio while using Soundflower as a QT input--the audio that was going to your speakers is now going into QT instead.  When you finish your recording, go back to System Preferences > Sound > Output to route the audio back to Internal Speakers or your usual default audio output.

  • New Quicktime Player

After upgrading to "Snow Leopard" on my Mac, Quicktime seems to play differently.
I don't seem to find a bar at the bottom that lets me scroll through a video... just play/stop... forward reverse.
Is this normal for the new Quicktime?
    Millard

QuickTime Player X has a simplified feature set from the older QuickTime Player 7, though Apple added some editing and export capabilities previously only available with a QuickTime Pro key. You should still have the scrub control though, at least for normal .mov files. What format are the movies you're playing? Are you sure the scrub isn't there? It's a bit difficult to see; you may only see the "diamond" and not the bar background.
Note that if you want the former features, run QuickTime Player 7 which may be in your Utilities folder. If not, you can install it separately. Insert the Snow Leopard install disk, go to the Optional Installs folder and run the Optional Installs.mpkg. You'll be able to select to install QuickTime 7 (it actually installs only the Player) from there.
If you don't have your Snow Leopard install disk handy, you can download QuickTime Player 7 for Snow Leopard here:

  • Since loading the new update, my downloads only display one page after the Quicktime Player symbol is shown.

I often access published papers from our university library. Since I updated Firefox, the QuickTime Player icon displays on my Mac, the papers load properly, but only the first page is displayed. If I copy the full URL from the Mozilla address line into another browser, the full article is loaded with that browser. Can you help, please. Firefox is my FAVORITE browser, but lately is causing me problems. Thank you.

Totally agree with this post. I like my swr30 a lot less now. Some ideas of the updates are good, but the execution is poorly and unusable. How do you do a roll back as you mentioned?

  • New quicktime player:  can I move the play buttons off the video?

Can I organize the Quicktime player like the old version?  With the play buttons / time line on the bottom, outside and away from the video?
E.g., I do not want the play buttons / time line to "float" over the video window. It's distracting for times when I need to pause and scroll over video to find certain spots.  It is really in the way.

Wow, that is unfortunate.  It's really annoying to have that in the screen.
Do you know if Quicktime Pro has the same thing?  If so I won't spend the money for it.
    thanks
