Quicktime Player Issue (Can't find appropriate forum)

What should I do in order to get sound playing off .avi files? My Quicktime Player (Pro) says I should go download a codec, but it just brings me to the web site and never says which. There doesn't seem to have any codec suitable for the purpose. What should I do?

I would start with Perian.

  • I've lost quicktime pro and can't find it. I had to re-install my HD and now QT Pro has gone and I can't find details of when I bought it.

I'm 10.6.8 and I use a Macbook Pro. I bought QT pro a while ago and since I've re installed my stuff all I've got is QT and I need the older version (that I paid for) to edit.
Any help will be much appreciated.

It's not the player I need
QuickTime Pro is not a separate application, so you won't find it by searching your system or by looking for a download. A Pro key just unlocks the extra features of QuickTime Player and the QuickTime browser plugin. You need the QuickTime Player 7 Kirk and I have referred to; only that version can be "unlocked" with a Pro key.
I can't find that either. I've trawled my email and can't find it.
Log into your account in the Apple Store and click on the Downloadable Software Purchases link. You should find the key shown there. If not, you may need to purchase a new key.

Your right: not clear. I'll try again. I may be in the wrong forum area of Adobe. The Safari on my PC: when I click on a link (that successfully opens on another web browser as a

Not quite sure what your question is - I simply don't understand it.
Shouldn't you rather install Adobe Reader to deal with PDF documents?
Please explain in more details if that doesn't answer your question.

  • ITunes & QuickTime Player Issues

For the past few days I have been unable to load iTunes. I have tried to reinstall both iTunes, but have encountered many problems. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes with QuickTime Players from the iTunes website, and followed the installation procedures but when I click on the desktop icon I get the following error messages…
QuickTime failed to initialise Error # - 2095
Please make sure QuickTime is properly
    installed on this computer
I have tried to uninstall both iTunes and QuickTime using various methods including:
    Control Panel>Add or remove programs
    Cleaner>Tools>Uninstall
But am convinced neither of these methods has been successful as every time I attempt to uninstall and re-install from scratch I am unable to run iTunes and encounter problems with QuickTime Player.
Has anyone else encountered similar problems, and could anyone assist me in where I am going wrong and how I can get iTunes up and running again.
This is the last throw of the dice for me, as I have spent the best part of an afternoon and evening trying to sort this problem with no joy whatsoever.
    Thanks

Thanks, it working now. However, I am getting a new error message now when I want to make iTunes as my default media player. Here is the error message:
It's similiar to my previous issue. This time I need to create permission for iTunes. Where would I have to go this time to gain permission? Please let me know and thanks again.

  • I purchased Quicktime pro but can't find the location to put in the code to upgrade my quicktime 7

I can't find the Quicktime 7 control panel.  I purchased quicktime pro, I have no idea where to put in the code to upgrade what I have.

I don't have QTP but I think it's under the Quicktime Player > Registration menu.

  • QuickTime opens automatically + can't find url

For some reason my QuickTime (I have QT Pro) opens automatically when I try to access video content on certain websites, for example the BBC Collective website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/collective/C1074). I can't find out how to stop this from happening, as I want the videos to be played in my browser window and not in the QuickTime player itself.
But the biggest problem is it keeps telling me "url not found", or "the url is not valid", something along those lines. Basically meaning I can't see the content at all. Very annoying.
I've got Flip4Mac and Perina both installed. Any ideas anyone?

    *Regarding your first link:* http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/collective/C1074
When I clicked on the above, it clearly states:
+"to access audio and video on collective you need real player."+
When I clicked on +"the colour out of space by hp lovecraft"+ (Mark E Smith) video a window popped up asking me if I wanted WMP or RP to play the videos. When I selected WMP, I got the pop up +"URL not valid error"+.
When I went back & selected RP, I could see & hear the above mentioned video.
You need RealPlayer 10 to view the above video.
    *Regarding your second link:* http://www.bt.no/dyr/article470324.ece
A blank video window showed but the video did not play. Since the website is in another language which I did not understand I couldn't figure out what was wrong.
You will need to check out the website to find out which player is needed to view the videos since apparently you can read/understand the language.

This is a relatively new OS feature which seems to be causing no end of problems for Mac users who have developed poor work flow habits. By default the latest Mac operating systems will "remember" which project/application windows are open when an application closes. Basically, you have three options with the QT X Player:
    1) You can close each movie after viewing it. (I.e., this is my normal work habit based on years of using the application and is what I normally recommend other users do on a routine basis.
    2) Users who have developed the habit of letting the QT player close all open movie player windows when the QT X Player app is closed can continue to close all open players by simply holding down the the "Option" key when closing the app as depicted here...
    3) Users who don't like this feature can turn it off system-wide by going to the "System Preferences... > General" window and ticking the "Close windows when quitting an application" option. However, as I use this feature extensively in many applications to restore projects "in progress" to the same status as when I last closed them, I don't usually recommend this option.
In any case, use whichever option best suits your current application work flow habits.

  • QuickTime Player Issue

Am unable to open QT Player. Prompt sys "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later". I made sure that compatability mode was disabled in QT and iTunes. I am running Vista 64bit. Any suggestions?

The Display setting boxes when checked will produce the error QT requires 2000 or later on a XP computer. So don't know why it didn't work for you but I believe your using Vista which could be the difference? Or possibly permissions, are you the computer administrator? Also does your video card software have settings, that's about all I can think of

  • Old "installed" iSync doesn't open. Can't find appropriate download: 10.3.9

I need to find a functioning version of iSync for my G4 iMac running 10.3.9 in order to sync my iCal items with a Palm Treo that I bought. My "installed" (unnumbered) version of iSync doesn't open and I can't find an appropriate version of iSync for my Mac to download. My machine won't allow me to install iSync 1.5.

    Welcome To  Discussions voicemark!
See if the info HERE is applicable.
"My "installed" (unnumbered) version of iSync doesn't open and I can't find an appropriate version of iSync for my Mac to download."
What do you mean by "unnumbered"?
Click once on the iSync icon to highlight it.
Press the Command + I keys, to Get Info.
    What is displayed for Version?
Navigate to HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Permissions.
In that folder, locate, and move to the Trash this file com.apple.isync.plist.
    Run Repair Permissions.
    Try to again launch iSync.
If that doesn't correct the problem, no guarantees, but you could try the procedure posted below.
Move the currently installed iSync application, to the Trash.
Also, in HD > Library > Receipts: Move any iSync files to the Trash as well, but don't empty it.
Use the utility Pacifist, to extract a new copy of the original from the system restore disc.
    Run Repair Permissions.
    Install the downloaded iSync application.
    Run Repair Permissions again.
Run Software Update, and install the available updates that are presented.
    Again run Repair Permissions.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".

Obviously there's some reason people miss it, but I can't imagine that's the reason. After all, the "Please Read ..." heading that leads into that explanation is hardly tiny:
Again, it's obvious there's some reason that people often miss it. I'd guess it has to do with being frustrated by whatever Apple-related problem led them here, causing them to skim over what's in front of them as quickly as possible to get to a place where they can post.
Whatever the cause, it's a known problem, and the Hosts and others have been trying to find a constructive way to solve it. Hence a brody's question, which I know was honestly intended to try to get to the root of this.

  • Can't install iTunes 7.5 on vista!  Going crazy.  Can't find in forums

Hey guys. I am on my mom's computer trying to install iTunes for her, and I just can't get it to happen. I have searched the forums, but no one is having this problem...
I go to download. Everything seems to be working, but it lands on the "preparing to instal..." window, and then nothing happens. It just sits there. I left it alone for a few hours, but nothing.
I tried downloading quicktime and iTunes, but the same thing happend.
I tried downloading quicktime by itself, same thing.
Does anyone know how to fix this? There is currently no iTunes on the computer at all.

Your lucky. Everything was find until I installed iTunes 7.5 on my Vista Ultimate machine and it crashed the machine and the OS. Lost everything in iTunes including purchases, movies, games, playlists, everything and had to re-install Vista and everything else that installs. I do wonder if Apple did this deliberately. I know Vista is problematic but there is really no excuse for this kind of thing happening either from Apple, Microsoft, or Dell for that matter. Of course Apple or Microsoft could care less.

Quicktime X is a great little piece of software. However, Quicktime X is very finicky on which codec/file format it can decode/play.
Luckily, there are DOZENS of alternative video/media players and extensions available for the Mac. Some of them are even FREE. Some of the better FREE ones include...
    PERIAN (quicktime extension)

  • Second Palm TX issue, can't find cust service.

Good afternoon, Unfortunately this is my second TX digitizer issue. I am having huge problems trying to contact customer service for assistance.  Either the phone number is not in service or I get the run around. When I email the company, I get no response (Actual email below). Its going on about 2 months now and I am quite frustrated and I have been using palm products for about 10 years and I am loyal.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
    EMAIL MESSAGE SENT
    Dear Sir or Ma'am,
Good afternoon, I have some problems with my Palm TX handheld and had an extremely hard time finding a phone/contact number for the PDA assistance, I hope you can help me. I have a Palm TX S/NN70UXP3M0RX Mac:000B6C4020011 with the following issues.
Digitized drift – I have purchased and installed “Power Digi” and it helps a bit but I find myself having to re-digitize the touchscreen quite often.
Screen area not recognized – The upper left hand corner of the screen is not recognized most of the time when a stylus is used in that area
Upon performing a hard reset, it is extremely difficult to digitize the device on the initial digitize screen. It generally takes about 45 minutes or longer to digitize after a hard reset due to the fact the upper left hand portion of the screen is not recognized.
All of the above issues are progressively getting worse.
This is my 2nd Palm TX with this problem. I contacted customer service(my first TX), verified that it was in warranty. There were problems communicating/understanding the operator but we got through it and I was told to await a confirmation # that would be sent to me and that I could not sent the unit in until I received the #. I waited several weeks however and received nothing from palm. I started the process again, became frustrated, and eventually purchased another Palm TX (this one). I love the Palm pdas, the pdas are great for work etc. This time however going out and buying another one is not an option (I don't make a lot of money).
I sincerely appreciate your assistance in this matter. My contact information is below, feel free to contact me.

  • PDF Maker Issue - can't find add-in in adobe folder, doesn't work in MS Office 2010.

    Hi Guys,
Since last few years I've been using Adobe Acrobat Reader (IX, X, XI) on my Sony Vaio.
It was integrated with MS Office 2010 and worked perfect with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Last week I had serious isues with my notebook and had to do a clean instalation of Windows 7 64-bit.
I installed all software back (Eset Endpoint Antivirus 5, MS Office 2010 32-bit, etc.) and at the end, yesterday
I finally installed Adobe Acrobat Reader XI (free). Then I noticed with dissapointment that there is no Adobe ribbon.
I did everything mentioned here PDFMaker unavailable | Office 2007, Office 2010 | Acrobat 9, Acrobat X, Acrobat XI
including instalation in a simplified mode, but it doesn't work for me.
The path mentioned in above link doesn't exist in my computer "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat [9.0 or 10.0]\PDFMaker\Office".
I can find only: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader"   - a path to AR app. There is no PDFMaker folder at all.
And another path: "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Replicate" - Replicate is the only folder under "11.0".
Do You have any idea what I could do to instal PDFMaker module , and use it with MS Office 2010?
    Sorry for my poor English.
I'll be very gratefull for help.

If you have all of those Adobe Reader products on your system, you are asking for problems. Adobe states one should not have more than one copy of an application on their system.
Reader has no plug-in for MS Office of any version.
Only Acrobat has a plug-in for MS Office. Again Adobe does not approve of more than one copy of Acrobat on a system. And if you dare to have Reader on the same system then Acrobat and Reader should be at the same major version.
