Quicktime Player opens all past viewed videos

As I opened my first video in Quicktime it played fine, then I closed Quicktime Player and opened another video. At that point the new and old videos opened. The more videos I viewed the more that opened. I cannot close individual windows I must close Quicktime to close all windows. I can no longer just open one video.

Here are the Terminal commands:
to disable Resume in Preview and QuickTime Player X:
defaults write com.apple.Preview NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool false
defaults write com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool false
Quit the apps before you run the commands.  Again, swap "true" for "false" to reverse your change.

  • Opening preview/quicktime etc opens all recently viewed items. how do i turn this feature off?

since upgrading to Lion, I've noticed that when opening programs such as preview and quicktime it opens up a slew of recently viewed items. i can imagine how this could be a nice feature for one that is referencing said items, but i find it to be a nuisance and i dont like the screen clutter that comes from this. id like to instead open WHAT I want to open vs what my MBP thinks i might want to look at. is there a way to turn this off? its driving me nuts.

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
... and click OK. Quit and restart the QuickTime Player prior to checking to see if the settings change has had any effect.

  • Stop quicktime player as default to view youtube video

    Hi,
My Mac recently updated and whenever I open the video from youtube, the quicktime player will automaticly run the video and say the file not found.
How to unselect quicktime player as default to view youtube video?
    Thanks
    Trang

If you are opening a Youtube video from your desktop do the following:
    Highlight your file>File>Get Info>
In the Get Info window, scroll down to "Open with:"
Select the application you want to open the file with.
Click the "Change All..." button if you want to "Use this application to open all documents like this.”
    ==========================
    Short cut:
Control mouse click (right mouse click if available), Open With...-> Other
Pick an app you want to open the video, and make sure to check Always Open With before hitting Open.
Thanks to a brody for the above short cut.

If you are viewing the video on YouTube's site, then the changes can be done through your browser Preferences to select a default video viewer.  However, you have not mentioned which browser you are using to view videos.

  • Quicktime player opens about 50 videos and then reports errors

The last time I was using Mountain Lion's QuickTime player, I accidentally selected about 90 files so now if I try and open the player, it wants to open all those files each time. Then it says it can't open them because they are in some format not supported. I have to force quit or else close each file. I tossed out all the QuickTime preference files I could find in the library but that didn't help. I even tried dragging a video to the QT app hoping it would forget the other files but it tried to open them all again as well as that video. Once again, I had to force quit. How can I make QuickTime Player forget all those files and just open up?

This is what happens when you fall into bad habits and fail to "clean up" after yourself before closing the app. You can try opening the QT player and immedialy try holding down the "Option/Alt" key while selecting the "Quit and Close all Windows" File menu option. If the player can "release" the files before being caught in an infinite loop or similar "read to EOF" routine, then you may be able tp "clear" the "re-open" file referencing and prevent having to "force" a quit exit from the app. Otherwise you will have to turn on the "System Preferences/General/Close windows when quitting an application" option and see if that works when forcing an application to quit.

  • Quicktime Player opens off center and to large

    Hello,
The QuickTime player always opens to large and off center on my screen. I have changed preferences in the options to every setting possible but nothing works. Using Windows 8. My windows 7 machine behaves exactly the same. I am running the Free version of QuickTime. I do video editing so I must have QuickTime in order to do my work. I have many videos with transparency created with the Animation codec. The Windows player cannot play them, if it would I would not need the QuickTime player at all. When I click the fullscreen button at the top right hand corner of the player it corrects itself but I must first slide the player to the left to get access to the button which is offscreen .I should not need to do this. Thanks to anyone that can help. This is a very irritating thing to deal with.

  • My quicktime player won't play any videos on my Mac X os. The video will start on quicktime then automatically start

My quicktime player won't play any videos on my Mac X os. The video will start on quicktime then automatically start. I installed DiV X today and all this happened is there anyway to fix this?? I went through everything dragging the icon to the trash and deleting it from safari extentions.

    Download and install
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac  Note that Perian will be discontinued after the release of Mountain Lion:  http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57434082-263/perian-plug-in-for-quicktime-t o-be-discontinued/?tag=txt;title

  • QuickTime Player open while doing a RAM preview makes the RAM preview stutter

Update: Ooof. Having QuickTime Player open while doing a RAM preview makes the RAM preview stutter. I quit the player, and now the RAM preview plays back without dropping a frame, says it's 24 FPS, but the RAM preview playback is slow: iE, a tenor sounds like a baritone. Trashing cache, restarting, no luck.

ug. I just updated to 7/0/1 DL. Hope that didn't make things worse.

HI Tim. In a rendering, tweaking marathon for delivery. Awaiting progress bar now, and will unplug my monitor and thoroughly reinstal after delivery.
Regarding QT player, it is open with a reference movie that is not called upon by After Effects. I have not had a QT in my project since this problem arose a few weeks ago, just PNG sequences and .AIFs.
Multiprocessing is enabled with 4GB ram assigned to each thread, leaving 10 processers avilable for other applications.
I did just see 83% of my 96GB of ram "in use" while AE was divvying up tasks between processors on a failed PNG render. Quit, trashed cache files, and now it's rendering using 6% of RAM.
Happy to start a new thread... what would I call it?
    Cheers,
    B

On mac's, the player opens in front of the browser... on pc's(windows xp), the player opens behind the browser. Does anyone know how to make the player open in front of all windows on a pc?

  • I need help to re set QuickTime player as my default internet Video Player

Does anyone know about QuickTime Player 7 10.0?
I have a Real Player software Program that is set as my internet default video player, I want to change and re set my internet video player as my default QuickTime Player, I don't know how to change and re set my Internet Video player. I noticed that in my QuickTime Player it doesn't have a preferences under the quickTime Player Menu. Does anyone know how I can re set My QuickTime Player as my internet Video default Player?
    Thank You,
    Mrs. Trisha Foster

Sorry, look under the Help menu -> installed plugins (I'm using Firefox and had to keep showing/hiding Safari). As for the other location, don't change anything there (not good to change anything in the Library folders) - I just wanted you to look to see if Quicktime is there or not. If it is, you need to take a look while Real Player is open to see if it can be disabled - I don't have it, so I can't give you instructions. If you can't find Quicktime in either location, there is something strange going on because it should be.
If you can't find it under plugins, also check in Applications to see if Quicktime Player is installed and post back. Also, do a search for Quicktime and Quicktime plugins.
I am not sure if you can just download and install it from the Apple download site or if you'd need to use your install disk to reinstall it from there; if you do not have it installed anywhere, it should be fine to download it - hopefully someone else will be able to confirm this.

  • Why won't Quicktime Player open a .mov VR file ?

(I'm on a new MBP, with Yosemite 10.10.2, QT Player v.10.4)
Nothing opens except the app when I double click on a .mov file, the playback controls don't even come up.
This does not happen on all .mov files, but several VR files which were outputted to Quicktime.

I think I figured it out:
The new osx QT (with Mavericks and Yosemiteseems to be the issue (see http://osxdaily.com/2014/07/20/run-quicktime-player-7-in-mac-os-x/)
I downloaded the older Quicktime Player 7 and the files work perfectly

  • Tip: Quicktime Player capturing DV audio w/ video from firewire to New Movie

I am posting this as a new thread in hopes that it will help someone in the future, since it took me quite a bit of googling to find this info and it points to a very idiosynchratic and counter-intuitive behavior of Quicktime Player. This solution is from user jonmanheim  - thank you!
Re: Trying to capture both video and audio to Quicktime Pro from DV camera
Just figured it out.  A little wacky.  You have to open a new Movie Recording window in QT AFTER playback starts on the camera or audio doesn't get recorded.  If you first open a New Movie Recording window and THEN start playback, no audio from QT - either during playback on the speakers or during recording.

    Don,
Put your 32khz clip in the timeline and select Export>Quicktime Movie Current Settings >Audio Only
Give it a useful name .e.g. Myclip audio.mov
Open up Quicktime Pro & import the file.
    In QTP, Export>Sound to AIFF>Options>Compressor None>48khz/16bit/Stereo
    Save the file
Once back in FCP - import the newly created AIFF file, Unlink the Audio from the Video of your clip, delete the audio from the timeline and put your new audio clip in the delete one's place and Relink the audio and video.
    Good luck.

  • SSL and Quicktime Player: QT crashes if it opens a web video via https

    Hello,
it was running some test-videos, I think, some weeks ago very well - as I can remember. After some days quicktime client starts crashing when it opens a .mp4 file from a https: connection. Thers a message concerning the certificate from quicktime then it crashes.
It crashes also on another computer. Quicktime plays the same file via a http connection (that is not secured via ssl) very well.
Safari is playing the https(ssl)-file with quicktime very well.
If Safari runs the ssl video and finally completed do load the full video I can copy the https:-URL to Quicktime player - and it plays the video very well.
Via quicktime streaming server the .mp4 runs too - but its not secured - I think
What can I do? Thank you for any suggestion.
    Best regards.

    Dear Paul,
thank you for your concerns - but I don´t want to give the address to the public.
    I hope for your understanding.
