Quicktime player problem

Hi
Please can someone help me?
I am having problems watching video that I have taken on my sanyo digital camera. When I view them on the camera it is fine, but when I try to watch it on the PC the screen is split in 2 and when I hit play the picture just juggers whilst the scrool bar along the bottom move to the right just as if it was playing correctly.
When I view a video on the internet, it works fine with no problems.
I have tried re-installing quicktime with no affect.
I have tried from CD and the download on this site but still no change.
If anyone has any ideas, I would be gratful.
Thanks in advance

Dragging it to the Desktop was a test. Since it won't do any good to put it back in the Internet Plug-Ins folder I suggest you trash it.
Check the VLC Site every now and then to check for updates. They may work as intended.

  • QuickTime Player Problem with iWeb v3.0.4 and Safari v5.1.2

    iWeb v3.0.4 published web site with Safari v5.1.2:
    I'm in the process of creating a web site (www.koinonia.com) using iWeb v3.0.4.  There is an inserted QuickTime element on the home page which is playing an mp3 music file.  The QuickTime player (Show movie controller option in iWeb) does not work with Safari v5.1.2 (but does work fine with Firefox v9.0.1).  There should be a Movie Controller below the album jpeg image, but is not there with Safari.  Also, the movie (mp3 audio file) does not play automatically (plays fine with Firefox).  This looks to be a bug with Apple's iWeb / Safari applications.
    Does anyone know how to get the QuickTime element to play with Safari v5.1.2?
    Thanks

    Safari 5 running in Snow Leopard has been a problem for me. It screws up html, loads a distorted control bar in HTML5 and crashes every now and again when I do a Google search. Reporting these issues is a waste of time as the latest update had no fix. I test all my pages in Firefox and Chrome and don't bother much with Safari since less than 3% use it.
    I have the same issue as the OP. The file will only load in Safari if the page is open in Firefox at the same time.
    This problem arose over a year ago and is related to files imported from iTunes via the media browser. If the OP will confirm that the file came from iTunes, I will have a look at the meta data to see if there's anything there that iTunes has added.
    The only time I am forced to use iTunes is for apps that don't allow import from the finder such as certain situations in Keynote. Otherwise, I wish it would disappear down a black hole in the universe along with Windows and Internet Explorer.
    I converted the file to MP4 with QT Pro to prove the point that its the actual MP3 file that is causing the problem - along with Safari.
    I haven't depended on the QT Plugin for playing media for quite some time now. HTML5 now works in all modern browsers and should also work in IE 8 if the HTML5 Shiv is included in the head of the page.
    Its also a breeze to get flexible movies in responsive web design using HTML 5...

    I don't bother too much with flash fallback anymore since these designs are mainly for mobile devices and I can ignore those who are reluctant to upgrade their out of date browsers.

  • Quicktime player problems since installing Snow Leopard

    Since installing Snow Leopard my Quicktime plays weird. The are sharp horizontal streaks and glitches where the picture smears (the only way I can describe it). If I restart or shut down and restart, that sometimes resolves the problem, but for only a short while.
    Any suggestions from any of you pro guys out there?

    Hi:
    I'm not a pro, but I think I would download the OS X 10.6.4 combo updater and apply it. Something may have gone wrong with the initial update. Alternatively, I would reinstall OS X 10.6 from the software install DVD and then run software update.

    This problem is same as reported here and hasn't been solved:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1370493&tstart=1397
    I have seen this problem appearing on Windows 2000, XP SP2 and XP SP3 with all QuickTime 7 versions (can't tell about iTunes since I don't use it), it didn't bother me because I have no use for QT/MOV myself.
    but.
    I have just installed your latest QT Player 7.60.92 and it craps out with the same error whenever I want to open .mov files.
    And I have downloaded few trailers ranging from small resolution up to highest "HD" resolution from your own Apple website to make sure it is not some encoding compatibility issue.
    I know it is a bug in QT Player itself, so don't tell me please that "my QT got fragmented" or such BS (like the replies suggested in the other thread) or ask about any QT alternative corrupting "official" QT Player since I have no such thing. I am trying to make it work on my mother's computer with freshly installed WinXP (prior updated up to latest patches), machine has standard 32bit intel single core CPU (2.8GHz, 2GB of RDRAM).
    I am really sorry I bought her camera that take those stupid .mov QT videos.
    Apple folks, what's the catch?
    With every crash it creates in user temp directory files like:
    QuickTimePlayer (2009-03-15 16.06.49).dmp
    + folder like WERf743.dir00 with files inside:

    Yes, same as in the other thread from year ago, the QT/.mov files play fine in the browsers (I have just check on IE7, Firefox, K-Meleon).

    Look, I had it running _few times_ too until it crapped out and gives the error since (on my own other computers - which I don't care since I have no use for any QT/.mov myself, but I repeat from post 1: I need it working on my Mother's comp).
    And talking about 'bad drivers' - yes, I know that the drivers are sometimes at fault and bad drivers can make entire windoze pc unstable or crash; but how can you suggest this as a cause in this case when I'm telling you that the same error appears on completely different machines? And wouldn't this error appear from begining, from very first use of QT Player if it were bad drivers? Sure it would if it was faulty driver, but since it didn't that's not the case obviously.
    Another pointer that it is NOT drivers related problem is that all other audio-video programs work fine, without errors and problem-free on the same machines, including playback of some of the .mov files with Media Player Classic or VLC - while they crap out with QT Player. If it was any of the drivers for audio or video, directx acceleration, etc - the faulty driver(s) should and would affect other programs as well. Yet all of them work fine and as I said - some even play QT files too (the ones capable of).
    /edit:
    Just to test it I "caved in" and I have installed entire iTunes 8.0 garbage (as suggested by foobula earlier) since I couldn't get just QTPlayer part of it to install separately, and what do you know:
    LO & BEHOLD! same .mov files play fine with QT7, no errors, no problem! (I have opened/closed same .mov files many times).
    Then I uninstalled iTunes and all of its junk,
    removed any traces of it (because it left out - in a Microsft style - plenty of garbage in registry, user appdata folder etc),
    rebooted,
    installed the "standalone" QT Player 7.60
    and hello Apple my darling! - same error is back after just 2 playbacks of very same .mov files!
    (I used Apple's own .mov trailers for testing just to make sure I have "right" quicktime files:
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_1080p.mov
    and
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_480p.mov
    - and I repeat: both played once each fine (haven't play till the end though, but I'm sure that doesn't matter since the problem appears from the start)
    What better proof you need that the problem is only with QT Player in a "standalone edition" (or whatever Apple calls it) and not with any drivers etc?
    As previously, both play fine when links opened in a browsers (so the QuickTime whatever-components responsible for audio and video rendering WORK FINE and its not any "bad drivers" problems, it is just QT Player application's problem)
    Again: (I hate to repeat myself)
    *I don't want any itunes or other junk,*
    *I just want .mov files to open with quicktime player - no more or less.*

  • Quicktime player has encountered a problem and needs to close.

    Hi, I'm having real problems running QT on my pc. I've tried several combinations eg- 7.02 with Itunes, 7.02 without itunes plus also the last 6.? version.
    Each time,the programme is fine until it reboots. Then it is unable to open either programme- bringing up 'Quicktime player has encountered a problem and needs to close' screen.
    I'm guessing its quite a common problem but I don't have enough time to trail through all the posts.
    Please can someone offer me some advice, Its driving me crazy!
    Thanks

    Can someone please help me with this??
    I can't reinstall quicktime or uninstall
    it says i am missing quicktime/installer.msi and then it closes

  • QuickTime Player export problem

    When I save in QuickTime Player (10.0) as Movie everything works fine, but when I select another format, I get an "Export Progress" window, but after that finishes there is no file.
    The problem seems similar as reported in this 1 year old thread:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10326043
    which doesn't have a solution.
    Any idea what is going on?

    ...no problem Michael.But the question exist.Because is not accetable that a professional sw like FCP has these type of problems....if you making an application like Compressor I not understand why the export module inside program itself has these(very evidents....) problems. Question: Final Cut Studio
    stand alone has COMPRESSOR inside???
    This is like rallenty problems. Everyone tell me :" use rallenty in motion..is very good " Rallenty in Motion has the same identical problems (es : strobing...) that are in FCP (IDENTICAL !!). I use this SW and partially all applications of FCS 2 until 3 months but I have find problems like "banding" that people that use FCP from many many time have never see...is possible this??
    It's a great suite but these things are inaccetable...this is my opinion.

  • Quicktime Player Record Problems - Format Change

    Hey all,
    This has been driving me up the wall, and haven't been able to figure out what's causing it.
    I've been trying to do a simple Quicktime Record of an incoming DV stream.
    I've tried this on two different powerbooks, one with 10.4 and one with 10.5. I have the recording prefs set to Device Native and it records DV beautifully. The problem is that it RANDOMLY just stops recording, anywhere between after 15 min to an hour, sometimes but not always... and the error says "the device format has changed", while the video and audio feed are staying exactly the same.
    I've also tried this either through a firewire repeater or direct from device to powerbook... same thing.
    Any ideas?

    QuickTime X can't open some media that uses older codecs. Use QuickTime Player 7.6.6 instead.

    before using for all entries in, u need to check whether the driver internal table is empty, if it is empty, u should not enter into select statement.
    if u wont use this check means, when the driver internal table is empty, the second select will take all the entires from the tables.

  • Effects causing playback problems in Quicktime Player

    My sequence is AIC 720 24p and plays fine in the timeline with affects applied. These are simple effects, like Fading and Cross Dissolve. When i export the timline without Quicktime Conversion but as a self-contained .mov file and try to play it back in the Quicktime Player, wherever an effect starts (from the timeline), the player freezes. The only way to get it playing again is to pause it, find where it skipped and go to just after the stopping point to play again. Is there some export setting I'm missing?
    strangely, if I do an export from Quicktime to a new file (not just a "save as") the problem vanishes. the same can be said for exporting with Quicktime Conversion from the FC timeline. I'm trying to get this thing to a file without having to re-compress it several times. Can this be accomplished without exporting with Quicktime Conversion with an uncompressed codec to save the quality?
    also: I'm running the newest version of FC Studio and the latest version of the Quicktime Player.
    Thanks

    Are you saving the file to a disk other than your startup disk? if not, that could be the problem. I think I'd render it all first, select file/export/QT movie... then use current settings and check on the "make self contained" option. This will result in a perfect copy of the original media files, and is as good as you can make. But it will take a pretty fast disk to play it.

  • QuickTime Player has encountered a problem...

    Hello,
    After speding a better part of the day to install iTune 6 and QT7, I am out of ideas.
    Each time the "QuickTime Player has encountered a problem..." occurs. The specific problem is with "QuickTimeAudioSupport.qtx"
    Here are the highlights (none worked, virus scan disabled)
    -installed iTunes wtih QT
    -installed stand-alone and the iTunes
    -installed alternative QT, iTunes still did not work
    -renamed QuickTimeAudioSupport.qtx, QT began to work but of course without sound
    -updated video driver
    -updated audio driver
    -numerous other variations
    So, based on the reported error and the fact that QT does not work stand alone, I believe the first problem lies with QT. If there any way to correct this problem?
    Thanks a million in advance for any help.

    I'm afraid there's a serious problem with the Windows version of QT7 being released. A week ago, I convinced a friend coworker to download QT in a pair of brand new PCs running Windows XP, in order to view the skinned example in Apple's site.
    It crashed both Internet Explorer and Mozilla, with no apparent reason.
    Remedy: we had to install QT version 6.x ...

  • Problem while sending RTP stream to QuickTime player

    Hello,
    I am trying to send a RTP video stream from a local file to a Quicktime player.
    The player is waiting for the stream in its default ports (6970/6971). I archieve this by using my own RTSP server.
    I start the transmission by using a processor and a datasink. It seems that I send one or two RTCP packages to port 6971, but not RTP packages are sent.
    This is my code:
    pr = Manager.createProcessor( new MediaLocator("file:/rootDirectory/file.mpg"));
    pr.configure();
    while(pr.getState()==Processor.Configuring){}
    TrackControl[] tracks = pr.getTrackControls();
    tracks[0].setFormat(new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.JPEG_RTP));
    tracks[0].setEnabled(true);
    pr.realize();
    while(pr.getState()==Processor.Realizing){}
    DataSource ds = null;
    ds = pr.getDataOutput();
    String url1 = "rtp://193.147.59.231:6970/video/10"
    MediaLocator m1 = new MediaLocator(url1);
    DataSink d1 = Manager.createDataSink(ds, m1);
    d1.open();
    d1.start();JMF doesn't show any error, but my application just is not sending RTP packages. What could be wrong in my code?
    Kind regards.

    Any clue please? I am frustrated!!

    hi
    i've download the quicktime player pro so i can use it with my new ipod (30GB photo, video, music). I have got the key and typed that in and can now use quicktime player pro.. BUT when i go to open a file or folder and play the dvd.. it does not let me on the d drive i double click it to open and it goes into audio and movies and links off into each seperate thing within the dvd.. so i tried to play it by dragging it from the my computer bit n dropping it on quicktime player.. butit comes up with buffer overrun deceted. programmes: c\: programme files\quicktime\quicktimeplayer.exe
    A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted... and so on. im not very good with computer so i would be really happy if you could help me please!!!thankyou!!!

    QT cannot by itself play video on DVDs. Apple sells a mpeg2 component that plays some DVDs but there are significant limitations which you should be aware of before purchase. See this article for those:

    Help!
    Thanks, Mark

    Unfortunately, the error message gives no details about what codec might be missing or what it needs.
    If the file can't be opened in QT, it only means you cannot use the QT "Inspector" window to check what compression formats were used to create the file. It does not mean you can't use the Finder "Information" window to check on the compression formats or use a third party media information window (e.g., like VLC which will open many compression formats not supported natively by QT) to determine what kind of data is included in the MOV wrapper. If the file cannot be opened in any app, it is usually a good sign that the file itself is corrupted.
    It's a stupid error message. Apple should do better than that.
    Error trapping is quite extensive but there are still many areas which require human oversight. The message is telling you that either the container has a problem (e.g., not properly terminated, non-standard, or corrupted) or that one or more of the compression formats used is not supported by your current codec component configuration or that the data was encoded using non-standard settings or preferences not supported by QT or that the fourCC code does not match the data contained in the file or that there are timecode inconsistencies, etc., etc., etc. In short there are a near infinite number of possible problems for which it would be very difficult/nearly impossible to program error trapping depending on your sourcing of content and how you process it before it reaches the player app. Think of it like trying to play a BD disc in an DVD player.
    I'll call Apple support when I get a chance.
    Chances are good that they will end up sending you back here. In any case, it is often a good idea to post a sample file for examination by other QT users. At the very least, they should be able to tell you if the sample file will play on other systems which would indicate whether or not the file itself is bad and under the best of circumstances whould allow them to examing the file in detail for various common problems.
