Safari 5 running in Snow Leopard has been a problem for me. It screws up html, loads a distorted control bar in HTML5 and crashes every now and again when I do a Google search. Reporting these issues is a waste of time as the latest update had no fix. I test all my pages in Firefox and Chrome and don't bother much with Safari since less than 3% use it.
I have the same issue as the OP. The file will only load in Safari if the page is open in Firefox at the same time.
This problem arose over a year ago and is related to files imported from iTunes via the media browser. If the OP will confirm that the file came from iTunes, I will have a look at the meta data to see if there's anything there that iTunes has added.
The only time I am forced to use iTunes is for apps that don't allow import from the finder such as certain situations in Keynote. Otherwise, I wish it would disappear down a black hole in the universe along with Windows and Internet Explorer.
I converted the file to MP4 with QT Pro to prove the point that its the actual MP3 file that is causing the problem - along with Safari.
I haven't depended on the QT Plugin for playing media for quite some time now. HTML5 now works in all modern browsers and should also work in IE 8 if the HTML5 Shiv is included in the head of the page.
Its also a breeze to get flexible movies in responsive web design using HTML 5...

I don't bother too much with flash fallback anymore since these designs are mainly for mobile devices and I can ignore those who are reluctant to upgrade their out of date browsers.

  • Quicktime Player Record Problems - Format Change

    Hey all,
This has been driving me up the wall, and haven't been able to figure out what's causing it.
I've been trying to do a simple Quicktime Record of an incoming DV stream.
I've tried this on two different powerbooks, one with 10.4 and one with 10.5. I have the recording prefs set to Device Native and it records DV beautifully. The problem is that it RANDOMLY just stops recording, anywhere between after 15 min to an hour, sometimes but not always... and the error says "the device format has changed", while the video and audio feed are staying exactly the same.
I've also tried this either through a firewire repeater or direct from device to powerbook... same thing.
    Any ideas?

QuickTime X can't open some media that uses older codecs. Use QuickTime Player 7.6.6 instead.

  • Is QuickTime player compatible with ios8.1

I Have web site which offers samples of tunes from my printed music catalogue as short MP3 clips using Quicktime player which is embedded in the code. The playback feature has ceased to work on iOS8.1. Is there an easy solution?

Firstly, the MP3 quality issue: for most of the items in my catalogue that are not properly recorded I have been using a general midi mp3 sample to give the customer an idea of what the item sounds like. I realise that the quality is quite poor but, practically speaking,  I am stuck with general midi and as far as I am aware mp3 is the most efficient way of transferring this to the web. I have no real expertise at this so just follow the routine that I have set up. If you are able to suggest a better, practical course of action I would appreciate hearing it.
Would be interested to know what the source content actually sounds like here. The 128 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz sampling rate should be able to reproduce reasonably good quality results if the source content is also of reasonably good to start. Was not saying the reduction in quality was due to these settings but due rather to the MS channelization workflow. (I.e., was recommending you test a simple "Joint Stereo" workflow to see if it improves things.) Since your combination "Joint Stereo-MS Stereo" files are the only ones I've ever tested, I don't know if the playback quality issue is due to the way QT X, QT 7, IOS v8, and VLC media players handle this type of file playback, produced by your encoding workflow, or a product of mono source content you are trying to recode as stereo. By comparing the "MS Stereo" with non-"MS Stereo" encoding of the same content, you may be able to determine if this improves your sample file quality.
E.g., here are two of your "Joint Stereo-MS Stereo" sample files as they download and playback on my system and mobile devices. Compare it with the playback of a standard "Joint Stereo" only MP3 file on your system and devices. Am basically interested in knowing if you can hear a difference in both separation and/fading between the two different encoding methods on your equipment and whether the source quality better matches the "Joint Stereo" encoded file:

    http://downloads.walker4.me/Temporary_files/1017_viet.mp3
    http://downloads.walker4.me/Temporary_files/Sarabande.mp3
Regarding the player, I gather that the gist of what you say is that the code to place the QuickTime player is redundant and intrusive for iOS8. Can you tell me how to upgrade the code and if I do this will the player still work with earlier mobile operating systems and dektop/laptop operating systems?
Was actually saying I am not qualified to comment on current web page coding practices and that you should probably have someone more qualified check whether or not the page code needs to employ conditional coding to differentiate possible ways of rendering the content on different OS and IOS devices. For instance, if you want to see how an iPhone or iPad handles playback internally with absolutely no web page coding try going to this web page on an Apple mobile device:
    http://downloads.walker4.me/Temporary.html
Once there, touch any of the last three links on the page (i.e., links posted as URLs above) to see how the device plays the source file URL directly—including the "play" icon controller built into the IOS which is hidden by your "player" page code. Again, I am not qualified to advise you regarding the coding of web pages since most of my content is personal (i.e., non-commercial) and posted to my personal iCloud storage devices for non-public distribution to my family.

  • QuickTime Player Problem with iWeb v3.0.4 and Safari v5.1.2

iWeb v3.0.4 published web site with Safari v5.1.2:
I'm in the process of creating a web site (www.koinonia.com) using iWeb v3.0.4.  There is an inserted QuickTime element on the home page which is playing an mp3 music file.  The QuickTime player (Show movie controller option in iWeb) does not work with Safari v5.1.2 (but does work fine with Firefox v9.0.1).  There should be a Movie Controller below the album jpeg image, but is not there with Safari.  Also, the movie (mp3 audio file) does not play automatically (plays fine with Firefox).  This looks to be a bug with Apple's iWeb / Safari applications.
Does anyone know how to get the QuickTime element to play with Safari v5.1.2?
    Thanks

  • Bug report: Quicktime Audio recording with multichannel interfaces

I have problems recording audio in Quicktime using a multichannel audio interface. I tried two firewire interfaces, an Apogee Ensemble and the RME Fireface. Both are supported by core audio and work as expected with any audio sequencer such as Garage band, Logic, Studio One etc. However, both show the same strange behavior in Quicktime 10.2 and as well in iMovie and FCPx:
First, i selected interface channels 1 / 2 in the audio-midi-settings window as the stereo input source. In the quicktime audio recording window, I select the audio interface (fireface or ensemble) as the audio source. I expected that the recorded audio would be stereo. However, regardless of these settings, the recording is always mono. Actually quicktime records only channel 1 and ignores all other channels. This might be a bug in Quicktime with regard to the handling of multichannel interfaces. The same bug occurs in Final Cut Pro X and iMovie, which seem to use the same audio engine as Quicktime. However, Garage band and Logic do not show the problem.
It does also not seem to occur with simple stereo interfaces. I tried a Logitech C920 webcam with a built-in stereo microphone and a Zoom Q2HD recorder used in stereo USB microphone mode. In both cases, the recordings in FCPx are 2 channel stereo as it should be. Thus the problem is specific for multichannel interfaces.
Can anybody reproduce or explain this behaviour?
I am using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), MacBook Pro 15 Retina 2.3 GHz.
    Regards, Werner

It seems that apple has reacted to this bug report without notice. Recently I tried it once more with quicktime and an apogee ensemble interface. Surprisingly, the problem did not occur anymore. I have not tested it with iMovie and FCPX yet.
The sad side of Apples support strategy is that I spent time and money searching for a workaround without knowing that Apple had removed the bug in the meantime.

  • Disable Quicktime Player Recording

Does anyone know of a way to disable recording within the Quicktime Player?  I don't want to remove the app.  I want to shut down the recording options.  Terminal commands, anything anyone?

I can't help but wonder why they even botherd making the video recording software if they diidn't include audio .
I tend to consider such features add-ons because to appeal to novice users because the features are incomplete as far as functonality is concerned or too dependent on the CPU power of the platform on which it is used. This is why I tend to use dedicated import and/or screen capture applications. Normally, I would recommend using an app like Snapz Pro X from Ambrosia ($69) but they too are having problems updating or replacing their audio "kernel extension" following system audio changes made in the Lion OS release. ScreenFlow ($99) is another good screen capture app but it includes a number of editing features that many users do not want or for which they are not willing to pay such a high price. I personally amd looking at what, for me, is a new app listed in an article URL posted by QTKirk. The app is called Screenflick and lists for $29. I am interested in it because they claim you can tap into user events like key presses (e.g., use of keyboart shortcuts) and highlight/include them in your captures. (I.e., this would be very handy for the makie of "quickie" tutorials.) In any event, I have not tried this app so I can't yet recommend it based on personal use... but it might be worthing looking at if you plan to purchase such a utility. (And yes, it does claim to support the audio capture of both system audio and/or a user selectable mic source.)

  • Quicktime screen recording with audio

i want to record audio that is played by a software running on Mac when recording the screen.
there seems four microphone setting: none, built-in input, soundflower 16ch and 2ch. but none of them worked properly.
i found a software called iShowU that can record audio but not free.
is there anyway to record screen and audio with quicktime?

I would think soundflower could do this as screenium uses it to do just what you are saying. But I have not been able to do it natively on QT X

  • QuickTime: Screen Recording with audio from Flash video?

I saw a short flash video on a website that I wanted to save. SO I tried using the new QuickTime's Screen Recording feature, but no matter what options I use (Line input or Internal microphone), I get no audio.
Is this because Flash won't allow it, or am I doing something wrong?

just figured this out myself today. you're on right track.
open system pref and go to SOUND - got to OUTPUT tab and choose soundflower (2ch) as your OUTPUT
open safari and open a new window - drag SWF file into that. it should play in the browser window. hit pause on the video.
open quicktime. go to NEW SCREEN RECORDING, and use the arrow to the right to open options. Choose sound INPUT as soundflower (2ch). do not raise the volume in the record window - keep it at lowest possible else you'll get an echo.
    you are ready to roll.
so the browser will be outputting sound to soundflower, whilst the quicktime screenrecord gets input from soundflower. works like a charm. sounds great.
    good luck.

  • Minidisc player/recorder with powerbook g4

So I know that minidisc players/recorders are not the most optimal music device for macs but nonetheless I can't buy another ipod and I have heard of people successfully transferring songs from itunes to a minidisk player. My only question is does anyone have suggestions on a particular model over all the rest aside from the the new sony mz-m100 and m10. I was hoping to find something with fm/am radio on it.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Mbro88,
I posted to you in this topic thread, it is best you stick to one thread,
where there is already some troubleshooting/ advice taking place.
Double posting for the same problem can be confusing, at the least.

  • What happened to my Quicktime Player?

Quicktime is suddenly playing my videos in a strange way. I get video and sound, but the image is "floaty" - almost as if it leaves a cloud trail, and the audio and video don't match right.
More Info - I use Quicktime Pro to convert files from .mov to .avi so I can edit them in my Sony Movie Software. Suddenly, the files wouldn't convert yesterday. After hours of troubleshooting, I realized that the problem starts because I can't view the files properly in Quicktime any more. Therefore, the converter says it can't read the files.
    Any help is appreciated!

You don't need to buy QuickTime Pro. QuickTime Player came with OS X, and as it's damaged, the first thing you should try is to reinstall 10.7.5 using the Combo installer > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1582
If this doesn't install QuickTime Player, you have to reinstall OS X. Hold Command and R keys while your iMac is starting up, and reinstall OS X. When OS X is reinstalled, QuickTime Player will be back in Applications folder. Additionally, if you have a backup, you can try to restore it instead of reinstalling Mac OS X

  • How to make .wmv files play in QuickTime Player 7 rather than 10

I have just about had it with QuickTime Player 10 in the Applications folder
and would rather use QuickTime Player 7 in the Utilities folder to play .wmv files.
When I double click on a .wmv file, it opens in QuickTime Player 10 with the
lame floating thing that blocks the view. Where and how can set 10.6.2 to use
QuickTime Player 7 rather than QuickTime Player 10?
The floating thing is really annoying

QuickTime X is very new software and only Snow Leopard users have it
A blurb on the 22-Jan-2010 issue of iClarified
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=7303
indicates a soon to be released 10.6.3 update will contain some QuickTime X
enhancements. I hope the enhancement fixes the floating navigation bar that
caused me to revert to QuickTime 7.

  • QuickTime player 10.2 does not record audio, mic works in other apps

    Hi,
    OS: Mountain lion
    QT player: 10.2
    Perian and Soundflower are installed.
QT is not recording audio from the computer mic or even a headphone mic, neither for audio or video recording.
QT starts always for recording with the volume down.

I used QT in the past to record audio from the computer mic.
I recently updated the OS from lion to mountain lion.
Any ideas why is not working?
