Quicktime player requires windows 2000 or later

Hello, I can't use quicktime, it gives me the error " Quicktime player requires windows 2000 or later" and changes all my icons into super size. I have windows 2000 and I've disabled all in the compatibility tabs (as it requested) and this does not help. Any ideas as to what is wrong and how I can fix it. It used to work just fine until the newer version of Quicktime was downloaded.
Many Thanks

With that one, try heading back into the Compatibility tab.
Are any of the *display mode* boxes checked? If so, uncheck all of those too, and click okay. (They can also cause that message, and having one of those selected is consistent with your icons/desktop resizing.)
Any better luck with the launch after that?

  • QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later ERROR

I had been using QuickTime without a problem for several months, when all of a sudden I started getting an error that says "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later..." and QuickTime refuses to open. The strange thing is that QuickTime still works in my internet browser, it just cannot launch movies or open from my local machine. So, basically I guess the browser plug-in is unaffected. iTunes also works fine.
I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit. My graphics card is an nVidia 8800GTX. My Windows, graphics drivers, QuickTime and iTunes are all up to date. I have made sure Compatibility Mode is disabled in the QuickTime.exe properties.
Any idea what the issue could be?

I found the solution to my problem. It's actually pretty obvious, but I did have the "Run as an Administrator" option checked in the compatibility tab of the QuickTime.exe. I didn't think that could be a problem I guess, but when I unchecked it... QuickTime starting working again.
This might not be the solution for everyone with these symptoms but make sure NOTHING is checked in the compatibility tab.

  • QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or above - Error

Running Vista 64 and get the following message: "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or above." iTunes works fine, but when I try to run QT it fails. Any ideas of what the problem could be? Not in compatibility mode in either app. Running default configuration. Vista is at current level.
    Thanks.

  • "iTunes requires Windows 2000 or later"

I have just downloaded the new iTunes software and QuickTime software for my iPod Video, and they have both been 'Installed Successfully'. But when i try to open iTunes i get this message entitled 'QuickTime Unavailable':
"iTunes requires Windows 2000 or later.
Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for iTunes.exe."
Now my computer is a Windows XP, and i selected this when i downloaded the software. And i made sure that the Compatibility mode was off. I have got the newest version of QuickTime which came with the iTunes download, and have restarted my computer after downloading it as it said. I feel completely stuck. Any ideas why iTunes isn't running?

Okay, then that is the appropriate Windows OS & SP for iTunes to run correctly, it may be a installation error, I'd try going to the download page again, downloading it then when prompted click Repair. It'll repair all the missing startup files and such that iTunes needs to run. If that doesn't work, completely uninstall iTunes, install it again, and restart.

  • Quicktime requires Windows 2000 or later

I was getting the above error after running windows .NET updates on Windows XP. I installed and unistalled Quicktime and Itunesnumerous times trying to get rid of the message and get Quicktime up and running. Tonight I finally figured it out...Right click on the Quicktime Shortcut or Exe. Choose Properties/Compatability and uncheck the 'Disable visual themes check box'. Now try it again and wala quicktime player starts up as expected.

I also have the Buffer Overrun issue w/QT latest rev. on my Windows XP Op.sys. I have the latest updates on XP installed as well.
I can't uninstall QT. When I went to the properties as you suggest for the .exe I do not have the Disable Visual Themes checked, and I noted I don't see Windows XP as one of the options for for the drop down window for Compatability Mode. It only goes up to Windows 2000 on my drop down list, though I leave the compatability box unchecked also.
Mine still doesn't work after complete Virus Scans, Registry Cleanup, and attempts to reinstall or repair ITunes & QT. I still have the persistent Buffer Overrun issue. When I did check Disable Visual Themes as per par. above, I got a different error indicating I needed to uncheck the Compatability option in that dialogue screen.
Any ideas would be helpful as I'm unable to use ITunes for my IPOD at the moment, after preparing a number of files I wanted to upload for vacation.

Even if it were possible, it would not be wise to have XP connected to internet, because it is not maintained any more, the latest security update was for Internet Explorer (I think for the SSH hole), and now all maintenance is stopped. I have technical installations with XP, that I cannot upgrade to W7 or 8, and I have disconnected internet for safety.
So do as Csound (   ) says, when possible.

  • ITunes says "Must have Windows 2000 or Later...please make sure compatibili

"Must have Windows 2000 or later. Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for iTunes.exe"
I do and it is. What the heck is going on? Anyone else get this? I have downloaded it 3 times now and get the same thing every time.
I have also done a Windows Update and it still remains the same...

You need to turn off compatabilty mode, see this apple article:

OOps sorry, I should have read your post more carefully.

  • Installing QuickTime SDK on Windows 2000?

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the QuickTime SDK 7.3 for Windows (from http://developer.apple.com/quicktime/download/).
When I try to install this I get a dialogue box telling me:
"QuickTime SDK requires that your computer is running Windows 2000 or Windows XP."
The problem is that I'm running Windows 2000!!
Anyone knows of any way to solve this issue?
    Best Regards

I installing the Adobe Flash plugin ONLY by my own hand. Sadly, Adobe did not come up with zip archive with just the plugin dll file, but I install - copy the DLL - and uninstall. Then manually delete the remaining files and just use the DLL or the installer.
To make the installe work at Win2k, the very same hack is need - hack the Flash Util file the same way, as the dll - change in it the SetDllDirectoryW to GetModuleHandleW and that it is!
If someone want, there is Flash Util and Adobe Flash as DLL files, hacked with W2k:

    http://depositfiles.org/files/max4wif3c
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/z2t9j2
Archive contain Adobe Flash unpacked (ready to copy into Firefox) with their utility files hacked for W2k in these versions: Flash Player 9.0.124.0, Flash Player 10.0.32.18, Flash Player 10.1.85.3, Flash Player 10.1.102.64, Flash Player 10.2.159.1, Flash Player 10.3.183.29, Flash Player 11.2.202.235, Flash Player 11.3.300.273, Flash Player 11.4.402.287
Interesting thing. Fullscreen video won't work on YouTube (only white screen, sound go ok) with Firefox v3.0.14 and Adobe Flash higher version that 10.0.32.18... Strange, strange
(could be that the Firefox is kinda old, but it is weird that v10.0.32.18 works flawlessly and just v10.1.85.3 not at all in fullscreen... I also use relatively old Forceware drivers v45.28 on crap GF2MX400 card :-) )

  • Installing Flash Player on Windows 2000

Thanks to numerous past discussions, methods have been found for installing Flash Player 11.2.202.235 on Windows 2000. See this thread, which explains how to use HxD Hex Editor to make a simple change that will allow installation on Windows 2000:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4428785
The original post goes into fine detail with illustrations. Here's a quick redux:
    - Download the latest Adobe Flash Player (IE or non-IE) for Windows 32-bit systems.
    - Download HxD Hex Editor hereabouts (VirusTotal rates it clean):
    http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/
    - Unzip and install HxD.
    - Launch HxD and open the Adobe Flash Player Installer, something like:
    install_flash_player_32bit.exe
    - Hit F3 for HxD's search function, and search for SetDllDirectoryW
    - On the right-hand side of the HxD display, change SetDllDirectoryW to GetModuleHandleW
    - SaveAs install_flash_player_32bit_Win2k.exe or similar.
    - Quit HxD and run the modified Flash Player Installer. It should install fine on Win2k.
This worked for me using Flash Player Installer 11.2.202.235, both IE and non-IE versions.
This is a hack and is not officially supported by Adobe.

After installing recent iTunes/Quicktime for Windows I am not able to boot my PC with Windows 2000 SP4. I can't reboot in save mode neighter - nothing goes.
Never saw a software which crashes your OS - I can't believe that!

I had the exact problem on two of my Dell Dimension running Win 2000. I had to painfully re-install everything. Did you fix yours?

  • QuickTime Player Issue

Am unable to open QT Player. Prompt sys "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later". I made sure that compatability mode was disabled in QT and iTunes. I am running Vista 64bit. Any suggestions?

The Display setting boxes when checked will produce the error QT requires 2000 or later on a XP computer. So don't know why it didn't work for you but I believe your using Vista which could be the difference? Or possibly permissions, are you the computer administrator? Also does your video card software have settings, that's about all I can think of
