Quicktime player shows no picture

Safari 3.0.4, Quicktime 7.4.1, iMac OS 10.5.1; best example of the problem is trying to watch Movie Trailers on the Apple site. Control bar opens half way up the allocated space where the picture should display, instead of at the bottom. If I pause and allow the trailer to fully download, then click Refresh, it then loads properly.
However, Quicktime loads the trailers correctly using Firefox 2.0.0.12.
I've tried removing and doing a clean re-load of Quicktime, but there is no change. Did a miss a setting somewhere, or is there another fix?

Hi,
Hmm.. in System preferences->Quicktime -> Browser tab is the Play movies automatically box selected? if not tick that on
QT-> Streaming tab, is your Streaming Speed on the appropriate setting> for your connection?
Is the Enable instant-on box selected, again if not do so.

  • Quicktime Player Show movie info window

How do you set it up that Quicktime Player automatically opens that window when it launches? I've have my QT player set so that it does this for so long that I forgot how I set it, but I accidentally closed the info window one day & quit QT Player. When I opened it again, I had to manually open the info window for the movie I was watching. Since then I've been unable to get that window to come up automatically as it did before. What do I need to do??

  • QuickTime Player Problem with iWeb v3.0.4 and Safari v5.1.2

iWeb v3.0.4 published web site with Safari v5.1.2:
I'm in the process of creating a web site (www.koinonia.com) using iWeb v3.0.4.  There is an inserted QuickTime element on the home page which is playing an mp3 music file.  The QuickTime player (Show movie controller option in iWeb) does not work with Safari v5.1.2 (but does work fine with Firefox v9.0.1).  There should be a Movie Controller below the album jpeg image, but is not there with Safari.  Also, the movie (mp3 audio file) does not play automatically (plays fine with Firefox).  This looks to be a bug with Apple's iWeb / Safari applications.
Does anyone know how to get the QuickTime element to play with Safari v5.1.2?
    Thanks

Safari 5 running in Snow Leopard has been a problem for me. It screws up html, loads a distorted control bar in HTML5 and crashes every now and again when I do a Google search. Reporting these issues is a waste of time as the latest update had no fix. I test all my pages in Firefox and Chrome and don't bother much with Safari since less than 3% use it.
I have the same issue as the OP. The file will only load in Safari if the page is open in Firefox at the same time.
This problem arose over a year ago and is related to files imported from iTunes via the media browser. If the OP will confirm that the file came from iTunes, I will have a look at the meta data to see if there's anything there that iTunes has added.
The only time I am forced to use iTunes is for apps that don't allow import from the finder such as certain situations in Keynote. Otherwise, I wish it would disappear down a black hole in the universe along with Windows and Internet Explorer.
I converted the file to MP4 with QT Pro to prove the point that its the actual MP3 file that is causing the problem - along with Safari.
I haven't depended on the QT Plugin for playing media for quite some time now. HTML5 now works in all modern browsers and should also work in IE 8 if the HTML5 Shiv is included in the head of the page.
Its also a breeze to get flexible movies in responsive web design using HTML 5...

I don't bother too much with flash fallback anymore since these designs are mainly for mobile devices and I can ignore those who are reluctant to upgrade their out of date browsers.

  • Quicktime player quietly quits: how fix/replace?

    Hi,
QuickTime Player application (running on Snow Leopard) is quietly quitting whenever I try to run it (and without playing anything).
It doesn't matter if I double-click it in Applications, or drag a .mp3 or .mov file onto the app in a Finder window, or if I right-click a .mp3 or .mov file and choose "QuickTime Player" ... in all cases, there's no visible sign that QuickTime actually started.
I confirmed, by checking the access date on the program file (well within the .app structure, of course), that attempts to run it *do* touch that file ...
If I use the Terminal and navigate down to /Applications/QuickTime Player.app/Contents/MacOS
and then try to run "QuickTime Player" program, I get:
2012-04-13 16:55:01.348 QuickTime Player[4911:903] Unable to load nib file: MainMenu, exiting
    (see below)
The "QuickTime Player" folder app is dated Feb, 2012.
    BTW, file "QuickTime Player" shows:
QuickTime Player: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures
       QuickTime Player (for architecture x86_64):          Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64
QuickTime Player (for architecture i386):          Mach-O executable i386
    which looks fine.
It used to work (a month or two ago?)
    I've rebooted.
I've run "Software Update" ... it won't find it or update it.
I've deleted it, then run Software Update ...ditto.  (I then restored it via Time Machine.)
I went to the QT download page ... reading between the lines, it appears that QT download is available only Leopard and earlier.
I tried it anyway ... the app won't install, saying "QuickTime X" is already present.
I looked around, and found a version of QuickTime Player in a sub-folder ("Video Stuff") in my Applications folder ...
when run, it reports it's: QuickTime Player 10.0 (128), and the .app folder is dated June 27, 2011.
But it does seem to work, overall!
BTW, if I run this old QT from Terminal (from within the .app folder), I get:
2012-04-13 17:08:34.442 QuickTime Player[5157:903] .sdef warning for argument 'FileType' of command 'save' in suite 'Standard Suite': 'saveable file format' is not a valid type name.
    ...but it does work.
    thanks,
    Stan

These settings are contradictory. Please post a screen capture image of the QT "Inspector" window to confirm what encode matrix setting, PAR display setting, and Scale display settings are actually embedded in your file. Also please confirm whether or not the source material was widescreen and it is 4:3 aspect you wish to correct at this point. If not, then please state the height at which the transcoded file was encoded and the target aspect ratio at which you want files to play in all media players.
Once compressed it plays back in Windows Media Player as 16:9 video.
When played back with Quicktime it is squished into a 4:3 format.
Different players dispay content aspect differently.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
QT 7, for instance, displays the file using specific Scale dimensions and if these dimensions are not equivalent to PAR/anamorphic playback settings, then the file can display differently in differently media players. As to fixing the problem, that depends on which setting you are trying to fix and what platform/software is available.

I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue.

  • Why the video played in QuickTime Player only audio available and no picture?

Hi dear all, I need to play a video through QuickTime player 7.1.6, however there was only sound and black background shown, no picture. I have tried to play the video with Media Classic Player and it is totally fine.
The following shown the movie info:
    Format: H.264 Decoder, 352x288. Millions
                 ACC, Stereo, 44.100 kHz
Firstly, I thought it is a problem on codec, but I have tried other movies in the same H264 codec, and it worked well.
As I need to import the movie into Cubase, so I must make this able to be played through QuickTime Player.
    Appreciate much for the help!

Player version 7.1.6 is a very old version but it should play H264 / AAC videos without issue.

  • Show quicktime player controls in Keynote for iOS?

I am trying to build an interactive iPad presentation in Keynote, which is essentially a wrapper for hundreds of training videos. On the mac, you can pause and scrub through a video housed within a Keynote presentation but I do not see that option on iOS. Can anybody confirm this, or does somebody know a way to enable quicktime player controls on a video playing in Keynote?
    Thanks!
    Brian

    FOUND THE SOLUTION:
I had this same problem and this resolved it for me:
-Go to your "Settings" icon and click on the "General" tab.
-About 2/3 way down the page you will see "Use side switch to:" - make sure "mute" is checked rather than "lock rotation."
-Then make sure the side switch, located next to the volume toggle switch on the side of your ipad, is moved to the right (no red dot showing).
My audio worked fine in embedded videos after I did those two things.  Hope it works for you.

  • How to open file in Quicktime Player when it shows gray/unavailable?

How do I erase audio on idvd project?  Looking to separate audio from video, and apply new audio. Using 10.6.8 macbook air, Processor 1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.   Using imovie 11, 9.0.4, idvd 7.1.2.  Could not import to imovie, file would not appear. Quicktime Player, the file appears gray and doesn't open.  I am grateful to all suggestions.
    MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hard to say for sure, but it could be a Microsoft Works file. Probably not Adobe related.

  • Unable to capture Mini DV footage through quicktime player 7

I am using the "new movie recording" window on quicktime player 7 to try and capture a tape. However every time I try I get an error message telling me:
This message shows after about every 2 seconds of recording which is strange as it the sort of thing you would expect to see if you unplugged a cable half way through. However this is not the case and i have run a cleaning tape through he camera so it is not that.
Is there a solution to this so I can record the whole tape into one MOV file rather than thousands of 2 second ones? I tried with Quicktime Player X and got the same thing happen with an even less detailed error message.
Possibly recording through an external screen if thats possible?

I suspect that QuickTime's error-checking is stronger than whatever is used in the camera. QT is probably detecting breaks in the timecode than the camera doesn't see.
Tapes can curl for many reasons: age, heat, cold, humidity, etc.
If you can get it to run on your Mac, Mitz Pettel's old Vidi application (http://www.mitzpettel.com/) is great for ignoring timecode breaks. Vidi runs well on my 10.4 PPC Mac; unpredictably on my 10.6 Intel Mac. I don't know how well/whether it works on newer versions of OS X.

  • Movie trailer or any other links in the quicktime player does not work

When I click on the movie trailer/Hot picks/Quick picks links on the player interface nothing happens. When I move the Mouse it changes to a hand showing the link is clickable.
Also when I click on the "Quicktime Website" or the "Quicktime Player Help" from the Help Menu, nothing happens.
When I go to any apple website and clicks on the sample trailer movies links, it is playing the trailer.
Anybody may please tell how to solve the problem.

Hello everybody. I am trying to reinstall my Quicktime 7 Pro after having my MacBook OSX 10.5.8 cleaned out following a hacking. I have Quicktime player and I reregistered with the purchased registration code for Quicktime 7 pro. It seems to be successfully registered with "Quicktime 7 Pro" appearing under the inserted registration code but it is not showing in Applications folder and I do not know how to access it or what to do. Thanks for reading this. I hope you can help me. Aidan from Dublin, Ireland.

  • Looking for a specific QuickTime player

    Hi,
I'm looking for a specific QuickTime player. The one that has the interface with round buttons like tear drops and not the flat buttons the we have today. I think it is in version 6 of QuickTime but I'm not sure. If someone could send me only the player. If you need a picture of the buttons, I can send you one...

Well, is controlling Audacious from the tray all that... needed?
I use Global Hotkeys and have quite a few bindings set up. They work surprisingly well.
The list as it appears in the hotkey editor window:

  • Currently using iPhoto 7.1.5   We recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard with updated Quicktime player.  Our videos off our camera no longer open in Quicktime by double clicking.  Any help?

We are running iPhoto 7.1.5 '08.  After upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Quicktime Player 10.0, our videos off of our camera no longer open by double clicking.  Any help?

Thank you for your quick reply.  I'll give it a try.  Another workaround I figured out last night is to right click the video, click show file, and then double click the file. Quicktime the plays the video.

  • Quicktime player quit unexpectedly

ignore report relaunch......i've tried all three. I kept getting a bouncing Q wanting me to update, so I clicked on it to go ahead. Now I just get a message saying that the quicktime player has quit unexpectedly and won't affect other application....do I want to ignore, report, or relaunch. I've tried relaunching, but the same message just keeps popping up over and over again. Now I can't watch any of my slide shows and home made movies. WARNING....I'm not a computer person and got this macbook because everyone said it would be simple for a 50 something person like me. I've had it two years and admit to having windows installed on it as well...which is what I use primarily.

It may be that somehow the prefs file has been corrupted.
navigate to 'your Home folder'/Library/Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
drag the last file "QuickTime Preferences" to the Trash. Do this with QuickTime not running at the time. Now when you launch QuickTime it will produce a new file like the one you just deleted and hopefully everything will work hunky dory.
In case you don't understand, click on the Finder in your Dock. It will open a window. Click on the icon on the left side of that window that looks like a house and has your account name. Next double click the folder called 'Library' in the window that just opened. Now double click the folder called 'Library' in the window that just opened. Scroll down the list of this last window until you find "QuickTime Preferences" and drag it to the Trash.

  • Quicktime player query

When I upload a video from my camera, it views it in Quicktime Player. If I try to trim the video, I can d it fine, but it won't save the trimmed video. It offers me a mp4 option, offers a format option of iPod touch or iPhone 3GS, which says it is also compatible with Mac and PC, but when I click on "save" it shows 'exporting for about a second, and then says "Cannot open"  If I try to exportthe original, it just says
'Cannot Open This media may be damaged.'  but this happens with every video clip upload from my camera to my Mac (MacBook air MacOSX10.7.5) The camera is new to me, and I am completely clueless about photo taking and uploading, so maybe I'm doing something wring there.
