Quicktime Player Ver 7.1.6 buffer overrun error during update

Using XP pro and Quicktime player open, I try to update existing software... under the help tab. All I get is a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Box with Buffer overrun detected!
The next line has Program: C:\program files\Quicktimeplayer.exe the it tells me the programs internal state is corrupted. Then the whole progame shuts down.
Next I try to use the update tab in Quicktime preferences and I get A rundllBox with An exception occurred trying to run "shell32.dll,control+rundll "c:\program files\Quicktime\qtsystem\quicktime.cpl" After I click on ok the box goes away and the program still works.
If i click on the Apple Software Update shortcut the progam updates with no problem.
Movies seen to work fine and the program seems to be ok except for the problem above.
Need help!

That's my excact problem, only I don't have the pro version.

  • Buffer Overrun Error When Updateing QuickTime

    Hi all,
I am using the most recent version of quicktime so 7.3.1, if I select update from the menu of quicktime player it loads to the following error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (Error message window header)
    Buffer overrun detected!
    Program: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QuickTimePlayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated.
If I reopen quick time it seems to be OK but the error above is displayed when I quick on update from the menu again.
Also when I am in the Quick Time Preferences and click update, I get this error message:
Run Dll (Error message window header)
An exception occured while trying to run "shell32.dll,control_runDLL"C:\program files\quicktime\qtsystem\quicktime.cpl""
I have recently reformatted my machine and I have exactly the same problem before and after the format. Please help as this is driving me crazy.

I'm experiencing exactly the same bug. Matter of fact, it's the first time in years that I've run across this kind of 'problem' when using non-beta software from a major player. Too bad. This really reflects poorly on Apple's credibility.

  • Issue with running QuickTime Windows.  Buffer Overrun Error - C++ Library .

Initial problem was Buffer Overrun Error (C++ Library) when clicking on QuickTime after installation. IE. QT would not even open. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831875#appliesto
    I took these steps:
    1. Tried to uninstall QuickTime by itself (it failed).
    2.
    3. Manually deleted apple, itunes and quicktime from the entire system (where ever it let me).
    4.
    5. Manually took out from the registration the apple stuff.
    6.
    7. Left the items in the recycle bin (in case there were any real issues and I needed something restored).
    8.
    9. Performed a registration cure (RegCure).
    10.
    11. Took off my entire Anti Virus.
    12.
    13. Dropped down separately the QuickTime and separately the iTunes on desktop.
    14.
    15. Tried to install QuickTime from one of the two saved files on my desktop, but encountered a serious fault
    16.
    17. It needed the QuickTime Installer to remove QuickTime itself, else it crapped out and nothing happened. This complained for a QuickTime.msi file which was a problem.
    18.
    19. Went to the recycle bin and restored only components which were marked QuickTime Installer.
Removed the QuickTime instead of Repair.
Went to the website and Installed QuickTime 7 directly.
It opened on the desktop after installation.
Installed iTunes separately from the desktop and it opened directly.
    Rebooted my pc.
    Enabled all my Security (McAFee).
Opened one by one the QuickTime and Then the iTunes.
Created a computer restore point with a narrative for the future.
This was a very difficult task and required a lot of steps. I am glad you helped me with the removing part. Its great to have everything working again on my pc.
I hope this was helpful - it took me ageges to fix.

  • Quick Time (Audio Preferences) fails to launch with buffer overrun error

It all started a few weeks ago, after installing itunes7.0 for windows, and itunes began to annoy me (indeed drive me mad) with an error message :
"an unhandled win32 exception has occured in itunes.exe [3840]" at startup / closing immediately afterwards.
After numerous uninstall/reinstall/clean the registry/system restore attempts I managed to solve the issue-- BUT only for a few days..It failed again and so I went through the itunes support forums even found an entry
"iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes fails to launch with an unknown error"
which suggests that my issue could be solved by :
"Open the QuickTime control panel and select the Audio tab.
In the Devices section de-select the Safe mode (waveOut only) option and click Apply."
But to my surprise, when i selected the Audio tab (and the Audio tab ONLY ) it presented me a "buffer overrun error" which indicated that the internal state of the program has been corrupt and it would be shutting down now..
    It's such a nuisance..!!
Please, help, and your help will be deeply appreciated... !
I have tried to revert to the older version and it didn't work..

let's try swapping out your existing QuickTime one more time. we'll take a few additional explicit precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Keep getting "Buffer Overrun" error message

Hey, all. I'm trying to burn my (2.5 hour) show from a new G5(OS 10.4.2) w/DVD Studio Pro 4 set at 5(ish) bitrate by 1394 firewire to a dual layer DVD-R in a Plextor 716UF, but keep getting a "Buffer Overrun" error message. Please help...
    Tom

There can be a few things happening
One thng to try is just build the DVD Project first to your HD and see if you get the error. If that works then select format (it is a DL Disc it seems) and see if you get en error about the dual layer break being "not found" or invalid then select the DL manually from DVD SP then run again, that worked when I had a similar issue. Also try your internal DL (did not know if you meant new being one of the new DL models, mprobably not since you have the external DL but figured I would throw it out there), perhaps the FW connection is messing up.
Have you also tried burning with Toast? Did you also aac the audio? Did you encode all assets outside of DVDSP then bring them in? Sometimes even deleting PAR/MPEG files may help. have seen a bunch of strangeness

  • Quicktime buffer overrun error with windows

    Hi
I hope that some one out there can help me!!!! I have tried to install the new version of quicktime 7.4 but it won't install. And everytime that I try to open Quicktime player is gives me an error which reads:
    Buffer overrun detected!
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue exection and must now be terminated.
I have tried to uninstall quicktime and reinstall it several times. I have also used recure to try and fix it. If anyone has any more suggestion other than going to the geek squad I would really appreciate it. I have been trying to fix this for a while. Oh, I did try to go back in the recovery too and that didn't work either.
    Thank YOU

  • "Quicktime Buffer Overrun Detected" When Updating Existing Software

So the subject line basically says it all. Quicktime runs fine until I pull down the "help" menu and select "Update Existing Software" which immediately gives me a C++ error "Quicktime Buffer Overrun Detected." I've tried repairing Quicktime and it does the same thing still. I'm running v.1.3.7 and Windows XP.
An interesting side note: When Quicktime is running my desktop flashes as though windows is refreshing it. Any idea what that's about?

Bumped. A little help would be appreciated...

  • Quicktime and itunes will not open - buffer overrun in quicktime

I cannot open Itunes. It says it needs quicktime. quicktime will not open. says buffer overrun. reinstalled both itunes and quicktime. both used to run prior to updates. Help.

Quicktime was working on my Vista computer up until a short time ago. I believe one of the Microsoft updates crippled it. I have looked at several forums and read the other threads on this site and from what others have described I really believe now that Microsoft did this with one of their updates. There are many problems with Vista all due to Microsoft trying to force developers to use only their products. Unfortunately they are squeezing us customers really hard.

  • Quicktime Buffer Overrun Error On Vista!!

I keep getting a buffer overrun when trying to open quicktime or itunes! I've tried everything: updating, reinstalling, repairing, using an older version.. all to no avail. I can't stand it anymore! I haven't been able to update my ipod in months and I'm going crazy! Does anyone know any other solutions other than the ones listed above? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Visual basic C++ buffer overrun error message

Everytime I try to export a video for compression reasons I'm getting an error: Microsoft visual C++ runtime library. Buffer overrun detected must shut down.
    I've updated the software
    I've defragged the hard drive
I've gotten rid of all temporary internet files
I have 9 gigs of space on the hard drive
I even uninstalled QT pro and re-installed it
    I've checked for adware/spyware/viruses
I'm still getting the error message. What do I do now? Blow up the computer? Please help if you can.

I got a tip to download an uninstaller program and then use it to uninstall quicktime. IT WORKED!!! Here's what I did:
I downloaded the pro uninstaller ($39.99) from http://www.ursoftware.com/.
I uninstalled quicktime, then itunes and then restarted my computer.
I then downloaded quicktime only from itunes.com then downloaded itunes.
I did not lose any of my purchased downloads during this process.
It worked for me, hope it works for you.
Please post if you have success.

  • Buffer overrun error message

I am trying to open up photoshop tutorial files from a dvd and this F!@#$%!! quicktime keeps giving me a buffer overrun message and shuts down. I've downloaded the latest standalone quicktime version and uninstalled and re-installed it repeatedly with the same results. I've also noticed quicktime will play a relatively smaller file (10megs or under)without this message though rather poorly.
When I try to play larger files forget it,the software just shuts down after 30 seconds or so with the overrun message. I have the latest drivers for my chipset, video card and direct x installed as well as clean scans from my spyware and anti-virus protection. Please someone help!!

  • Instrument reports: Input buffer overrun (Error -363)

    Hi all,
I am currently trying to control an Ametek XG 12-240 DC power supply using LabVIEW 2013. I have downloaded all of the drivers from Ametek and can communicate with the device using NI MAX. When I run the "ametek simple example.vi" to set a current and voltage level and turn on the power output, I get
"Error -363 occurred at Ametek XG Power Supply.lvlib:Error Query.vi
    Possible reason(s):
    Instrument reports:
    Input buffer overrun;"
I am new to LabVIEW and have not found any online solution to the problem. Any suggestions?

That's an IVI driver written by Ametek/Sorensen with a custom error code created by them. If you have CVI, you could perhaps debug the driver yourself. Otherwise, you might want to contact the vendor. Running I/O Trace would give you an idea of what commands are being sent.
The last time I used one of their IVI drivers, ki had problems as well. Instead of doing any debug, I just spent a couple of hours writing a LabVIEW driver. A power supply is a simple instrument.

  • Cannot Export any Video - BUFFER OVERRUN ERROR MESSAGE

    Hi everyone,
I just purchased a new Ipod video and QTPro. After instaling it for the first time and when trying to export any video i got the message from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library ("Buffer Overrun detected!").
"A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated."
I don't know how to fix this problem. Can someone help ? Tkx

I get the same message when play or exporting any of my Mpeg files, after a few seconds.
I got the plugin and pro for this specific purpose, but when I try to export them after a few % i get the same message: Visual C++ Buffer Overun. This also occurs when I've been watching the video for a minute or so.
Like Alex i would love some help to fix this problem. Thnx
