QuickTime Player Windows 8,1

Hi , have a happy new year .
I have installed Quicktime Player in a pc Windows 8.1 and every time I open a movie file mp4 or mov it pops up this message .
I shall restore them sooner or later but first I would like to know what is this all about .
Thanks .

Just what it says.
QuickTime can pay a variety of file types and formats.
Some that it deems it can play are associated with a different application, or have no application associated with them.
Its simply asking if you want to change the association to QuickTime so they open with QuickTime when you double click on them, rather than with the other application they are associated with currently if any.

• QuickTime Player Window Unresponsive After Switching Apps or Hiding

When I'm watching a movie in QuickTime Player, pause the movie, and switch to another app or hide the QuickTime Player window, the window becomes unresponsive when I try to switch back. None of the buttons in the window work, but I can still get the movie to resume play by using the play button on my keyboard. The only way to get it back to normal is to quit QuickTime Player via the contextual menu in the Dock and then relaunch. Is anyone else seeing this behavior or know of a fix?
Thanks.

Yes! I have the same problem. No solution though.

• My quicktime player window won't open

I'm running 10.3.9 on an early G-5. I've recently updated to the 7.2 version of quicktime. I click on the player icon and get no window. When I try to import a movie from the file menu, i get a prompt that says it can't open that movie. I've reinstalled Quicktime and I've used the disc utility to check the hard drive.
I now can't open my Peak program because it says it can't initialize quicktime. I need that program.
Will someone please help me.
Thanks

Thank you, thank you. It worked. I now have a working version of quicktime.
I'm a little hesitant of upgrading from 6.5 cause it's working now.
But now I've got another problem. Safari is not working. I had to go to explorer to thank you. I can't get a window when I click on safari. And the pull down menu works sporadically. Maybe you have a suggestion for this problem.
I would appreciate any help.

• QuickTime player/ Windows Media Player help

I downloaded the WPM for mac and it is installed correctly with StuffIt. My problem is that when I try to open a WMV file, my computer tries to open it with QuickTime and then says that the file type is not recognized by Quicktime. How can I change the settings so that I can view WMV files in WMP?
When I try and play the Windows Media Sample.WMV the computer still tries to use Quicktime.
Thanks in advance!

Right click the wmv file and select get info.
There is an option to select the program you want to us e to open this file type.

• Launch QuickTime player from hyperlink in Safari

Here's the software I have:
Mac OS X 10.4.3
Safari 2.0.2
QuickTime Player 7.0.3
When I click a hyperlink in Safari, for example:
Movie
Safari immediately begins playing the Movie in the browser window as the Movie is being downloaded.
How do I configure either Safari or QuickTime to LAUNCH a new QuickTime player window instead of playing the movie in the Safari window?
Any help will greatly appreciated.

QuickTimeKirk, your advice is correct but I don't want to go threw all that action of control-click, copy URL, open QuickTime, then paste the URL into QuickTime. I know that works, but I want something simpler and faster (to automate that!)
I'm looking for a simple "single-click" solution to launching a QuickTime player from a hyperlink to a QuickTime media file!!!! I've posted this question to MacOSXhints.com and videolan.org with no solutions that I want.
I think I need to look into Safari and see how it handles events when you click on a hyperlink. All I really want is Safari to lauch a QuickTime player instead of playing the movie in the browser!
I appreciate all the comments from everyone! Thanks.

• Export Image with Player Window

I would like to export an image from my quicktime movie, but I would like to include the Quicktime Player window as well. I can export just the image, but not the image and player window. Any help would be great.

Command-shift-4 will change your cursor to a cross-hair. Then click and drag diagonally across the area you want to record as a partial screen shot.
Or command-shift-4 and then let go of the keys, press the space bar and click in the QuickTime Window to capture the whole window and nothing else.

• Quicktime playing Windows format media

I am new to the Mac world but after having my Windows laptop stolen I decided to switch to Mac. My problem is playing media files (.wmv) in Quicktime. Is this a no win situation or does someone know what I am doing wrong. This is frustrating for the sales person said I could play the format just doesn't know how to do it.

http://flip4mac.com
Allows "most" WMP formats be played back inside a QuickTime Player window.
Not all WMP formats and codecs are included and third party software may still be required.

• Software for converting quicktime to windows media player

I am having difficult converting a movie from Quicktime or even IMovie to a program that can be run on a Windows PC.

To convert to Windows Media Player (with .wmv extension), you will need one of the Paid versions of Flip4Mac.
Flip4Mac gives you the components you need. Use something like MPEG Streamclip to do the actual conversion.
If you just want to play it on a Windows PC, but don't care about Windows Media format, there are two ways to go.
1) Just use SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE in the size you want. On the PC, you need to install QuickTime Player for Windows.
2) You can also use SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to MPEG4. Choose h.264 as the codec. With this option, it should play on Windows without the need for QuickTime Player to be installed.
I may receive some compensation from my link.

• Converting quicktime to Windows media player

Hi
Does anyone know if there is a way to convert quicktime to windows media player. I need to run both files on a web site. I am on a macintosh so let me know if there is a way

I am puzzled how you could have exported anything if you don't already have QT Pro, unless you used some third-party encoding program. As far as Cinepak goes, you must keep in mind that it is an almost ancient codec and lacks the superior quality of many newer codecs at low datarates. However, assuming your source file is high quality, you can try a 320x240 Cinepak avi using 30 FPS, a Keyframe interval of 60 and a datarate of 180Kbytes a sec. Those are the settings enabled for the 2X CD encoding preset in QT6. That will take the file size up to about 10 megs per minute, if that is acceptable to you. While it will not be equal to H264 or Mpeg-4 it would not look terrible.
To answer the question about Pro doing better, it is not really an issue. If you have an encoder program that can set the parameters I mention above, it will look just as good as the file that QT Pro would export using the same settings.

• Quicktime player requires windows 2000 or later

Hello, I can't use quicktime, it gives me the error " Quicktime player requires windows 2000 or later" and changes all my icons into super size. I have windows 2000 and I've disabled all in the compatibility tabs (as it requested) and this does not help. Any ideas as to what is wrong and how I can fix it. It used to work just fine until the newer version of Quicktime was downloaded.
Many Thanks

+Hello, I can't use quicktime, it gives me the error " Quicktime player requires windows 2000 or later" and changes all my icons into super size. I have windows 2000 and I've disabled all in the compatibility tabs (as it requested) and this does not help.+
With that one, try heading back into the Compatibility tab.
Are any of the *display mode* boxes checked? If so, uncheck all of those too, and click okay. (They can also cause that message, and having one of those selected is consistent with your icons/desktop resizing.)
Any better luck with the launch after that?

• QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later ERROR

I had been using QuickTime without a problem for several months, when all of a sudden I started getting an error that says "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later..." and QuickTime refuses to open. The strange thing is that QuickTime still works in my internet browser, it just cannot launch movies or open from my local machine. So, basically I guess the browser plug-in is unaffected. iTunes also works fine.
I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit. My graphics card is an nVidia 8800GTX. My Windows, graphics drivers, QuickTime and iTunes are all up to date. I have made sure Compatibility Mode is disabled in the QuickTime.exe properties.
Any idea what the issue could be?

I found the solution to my problem. It's actually pretty obvious, but I did have the "Run as an Administrator" option checked in the compatibility tab of the QuickTime.exe. I didn't think that could be a problem I guess, but when I unchecked it... QuickTime starting working again.
This might not be the solution for everyone with these symptoms but make sure NOTHING is checked in the compatibility tab.

The Windows version of QuickTime can't open WMP (Windows Media player) formats.
Your file is .wmv so you should open it using Media Player.

• Quicktime Pro Windows - Why are Trimmed Movies Being Saved at Player Size?

When I trim a video clip (ProRes 422 HQ) in Quicktime Pro 7 Windows, and re-save it as a self contained movie, it seems to save the trimmed clip at the current image size of the player window.
Based on the size of the new file, it seems like the full-size data is there, but the file's properties are somehow being tagged to play back at a reduced image size. (This is confusing some of the NLEs I'm trying out.)
Can this property be undone? So the clip is always trimmed and saved to play back at the original image size? Thanks.

If it matters, I have a Canon camcorder and imported the clips using a firewire cable. The external drive is connected via a second firewire cord to the other firewire port.
