QuickTime Player Wont open

Hello,
when I double click on the quicktime icon nothing happens. Just sometimes it tells me that theres a problem and if I want to send it to microsoft. The Same happens with iTunes. I tried to uninstall and reinstall again but it didnt help. And when I play something from the web trough mozzila it says something about a plug-in I think.Pls Help
Thx

Take a look at the file extension (.wma). That is Windows Media Audio format and QuickTime never opened them.
Since Microsoft discontinued Windows Media Player for Mac in 2003 support for WMP formats has fallen to third party developers.

    hello,
I have a quicktime (olderversion) i need to give to a friend who has Tiger with quicktime 7 and keynote.
he wants to open the quicktime in keynote and use for a presentation.
anyone know why it wont open in keynote??/

Open the file (on your machine) using QuickTime Player. Open the Movie Info window and note the type of file format (.avi, .mpg etc.) and the sound and video codecs used.
If you find third party codecs (Divx etc.) the Keynote user will need those codecs before they can view the file. Once it can be displayed using QT Keynote should also be able to import the file.

before using for all entries in, u need to check whether the driver internal table is empty, if it is empty, u should not enter into select statement.
if u wont use this check means, when the driver internal table is empty, the second select will take all the entires from the tables.

  • Stopping quicktime player from opening

    hi everyone,
Im pretty thick when it comes to this kind of stuff. Im gonna install quicktime pro but how do i stop the factory installed quicktime player from opening when i want to watch movies?

Right click on a movie file and go to 'Get Info...' Twirl down the 'Open With' section and select 'QuickTime Player 7.app' (This is QuickTime Pro). Then click the 'Change All' button.
You will need to do this for every movie file type, ie. .mov, .mp4, .mpg, etc.
Unfortunately this process may not work for everyone. QuickTime X, (the default Quicktime Player.app in Leopard and Snow Leopard), tends to override your player preferences. If after clicking the 'Change All' button it reverts back to QuickTime Player.app, then you will know. You can fix this by installing the Preference Panel RCDefaultApp. http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/
You can then use RCDefaultApp, (found in your System Preferences after installation), to change your file type associations.
I think it's pretty ridiculous that Apple tries to force QT X over the Pro version, but it is what it is I suppose and this is one way to fix it.

Why won't quicktime player work? I own Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and connote get the quicktime player to open or play quicktime movies?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

Dear Apple, i took 4 videos from my friend's windows 8 pc but all of them shown a error that To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More." what should i do now? please help me Apple

If the videos are .wmv files, VLC from VideoLAN will play them and pretty much any other media format.
BTW, we are not Apple; we're just users like yourself.

to see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie

Generally, this requires installing Perian, or the free version of Flip4Mac if the movie is an unprotected WMV file, or using VLC. Some formats, such as protected WMV files, can't be played in Mac OS X.

  • Quicktime Player wont stretch file when going to full screen

Not used it for a while, but i opened up a movile file in Quicktime player today (for example one of the leopard videos from apple.com), and when i selected Cmd F to run in full screen, the 'movie' file stayed the same size, and put a big black border round it.
It used to stretch fit the whole screen, but not any more!
Is there an option i have missed/messed with which stops the file running in true full (fit) to screen?
    Latest version of QT etc...
    Thanks

    Thank you
I looked at the full screen options, but thought that touching these would have made the movie open in fit to screen mode, which is what i didnt want, i needed them to open in there normal size, then doing the CMD F did full screen and fit to screen automatically (doh!)

  • Quicktime player file open nightmare

I have several quicktime movie files that were saved on my MacBook prior to the Snow Leopard upgrade as downloaded movies using the old version of QTpro. The MacBook is now running the latest OS. I can still open these files using either the 10.0 player (90.3.1) or the old pro player version 7.6.3 (630) on the MacBook. On my MacPro that shipped with Snow Leopard installed, I cannot open these movie files and get the "the movie is in a format that QT does not understand.." with either version of the player on the MacPro.
I've tried to save the files as new .mov files on the MacBook, but the MacPro still cannot open them. I need to be able to get these movie files into Keynote on the PowerMac and work with them on the PowerMac. Can anyone suggest how to get past this problem? Could I have some QT component on my MacBook that is missing on the MacPro and if so, how do I find it?
...wishing Apple would stop hosing their QTpro customers with every OS upgrade.

On my MacPro that shipped with Snow Leopard installed, I cannot open these movie files and get the "the movie is in a format that QT does not understand.."
Sounds as if someone forgot to update their QT component installation on the newer platform. Basically, you need to be sure that both platforms can access the same set of QT components -- i.e., the ones required for the movies in question. In some cases where users have added Snow Leopard after purchase, the components (the QT MPEG-2 Playback component and/or the Perian component package in particular) seem to get "lost" during the new OS installation and may need to be reinstalled to re-link them with the dual 32-/64-bit QT structure. However, in your case, a simple comparison of the QT component folders and/or check of the Inspector/Properties window to see which QT components are causing the problem, should reveal what is going on.
I've tried to save the files as new .mov files on the MacBook, but the MacPro still cannot open them.
Saving files to a new/different file does not convert/re-compress the actual data. Instead, it merely re-writes the same compression format(s) to a new MOV file container. E.g., "muxed" MPEG-1, WMV, or H.264/AAC data can be re-wrapped in an new container but would still require their original QT components for proper viewing/conversion.

  • QuickTime Player cannot open files in the "data" format.

The title above is an exact clip from error message rcvd when quicktime loads after clicking on a web hyperlink.  I enjoy the simplicity of a mac and don't like having to make things work smoothly myself.
The error as quoted doesn't show up when searching the quicktime section of this forum, so I'm contributing it for all the other users who experience the same show-stopper and will appreciate a solution that doesn't require too much more than just Apple>Software update, or some similar scenario.
p.s. I saw some solution mentioning components out of date.  I have no idea, nor wish to know about these.  Hope I don't have to go there!

    1. There isn't a window player for the MAC.
    2. Flip4Mac playback plugin is a free download... I hope you didn't buy Flip4Mac.

  • Quicktime player wont work

I am not a technical person when it comes to computers but I am trying to open a .wmv file on my macbook pro that I bought last year in 2012. It wouldnt open so I clicked on the 'tell me more' option and then I downloaded the flip program (cant remember its full name). It now opens - I can see the opening shot in the .wmv movie file but when I press 'play' it does nothing. I can drag the aroow along and see any particular part - but nothing will play.
    Please help!!

Is the clone it was setup from a Mac Pro of a different vintage, or another Mac?  If that's the case, then copying from that clone directly is ill-advised.
    1. If the Mac the clone came from is of an older age (older operating system), or different model and still an Intel Mac, using the Migration Assistant is the best tool:
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n25773
    2. If the Mac came with a newer version of 10.6.6, or has 10.6.7 installed, upgrade to 10.6.7 combo update first, then use the Migration Assistant: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
A font update to 10.6.7 is also recommended:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1377
    3. If the Mac is a PowerPC (G3, G4, G5) was cloned from, use the tips found here to import the data:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
    4. If it is an identical Mac Pro running 10.6.6 that was cloned, you may need to make sure you are running the latest Quicktime from:
