QuickTime plays sound only, no video on my iPhone 4

I can't play videos online that are not running on the you tube app. Videos I try to watch through safari will only load the sound. Does any one know why this is happening and how I can fix it, without having to spend an hour or two at the apple store; I had no issues with my 3G.

Please let me know if you find a fix, this frustrating. I'm about to return this phone because besides the camera upgrade and folders, I'm not seeing a huge difference from my 3GS.

Thanks .Ralph. The problem is only on the iPad 2only. I have an iPad 1 as well and it never had the problem. The only videos that I have tried are you tube and the tutorials on apple.com. I have absolutely no problem on either of my laptops or desktop PC's. Only the iPad 2. I am a new Apple user, so not very familiar yet with the product, but this is an absolute deal breaker for me. With Apple's reputation I was not expecting any such problems and it is beyond my skill set to solve it. Very frustrating. Again, no problem with you tube videos. I don't watch movies, so am not a Netflix member and haven't tried that yet, only you tube videos and apple.com tutorial videos. I have to watch those on my laptop. Again, I found a fix to the you tube problem. It was a link to a site. www.youtube/html5. html5 video player trial that you click on and once done, the videos on the you tube app started working great. They were doing the same thing as the tutorial videos prior to that. No such luck with the other web videos, at least the ones that i have tried. Hope this is enough info and understandable. You might check out the html5 site. I didn't thoroughly understand why, but it worked. You may understand it better. I am a proficient user, but far from an I.t. Pro. I have read Many posts with similar problems, but no simple solutions and the ones I did try didn't work. Speed tested well. Channel is set to auto and always different than neighboring networks, usually channel 11. Tried disabling QOS as suggested....no good. I am completely stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated. Don't use WiFi for streaming video. It is even worse for AirPlay since you are using bandwidth twice as it sends data from the iOS device to the router and then from the router to ATV. Use an wired connection to go to ATV. Even the high end consumer grade WiFi equitment is not great at doing streaming video.

See if it helps to delete the firmware file and download a new one:
Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)
iTunes uses "ipsw" files to restore your iPod or iPhone. If those files are unusable, then try deleting them, renaming them, or moving the file to a different directory. This will cause iTunes to download a new copy of the IPSW. When a restore issue is specific to a user, it is likely due to an unusable .ipsw file. If removing the .ipsw file does not resolve a user-specific restore issue, then the issue is caused by other user-specific security software settings or iTunes preferences. Creating a new user will also cause new .ipsw restore files to be downloaded in the new user. You can find the ".ipsw" files in these locations:
Mac OS X
iPhone
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
iPad
~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates
iPod touch
~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates

Quicktime Player Sound Only

I have quicktime pro 7.4.1 and on my mac pro only, in Quicktime Player from a fresh download, the video starts out fine and then the video window goes away and only the sound plays, I have tried everything I can think of and am having the same thing happen. I have rebuilt permissions and re-downloaded quicktime several times, any ideas would be great. Quicklook works and so does quicktime within safari sorry for the length, just making me crazy

Most MP4s play sound but no video after upgrade to 10.5

I just upgraded to 10.5.6 from 10.3.9, and now most -- but not all -- of my MP4s only play sound and don't show video (using Quicktime). I haven't been able to find what the files that do play properly have in common. Any ideas?
(Incidentally, I can open them in VLC, but I'd prefer to use Quicktime -- not to mention simply figure out the reason for the issue.)

Make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, Perian, Flip4Mac & VLC.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
Click _*Repair Disk.*_
Restart your computer when done.

QuickTime Plays Audio But No Video

For the past few days everytime I play an mpg or mov on my QuickTime Player (7.3), I hear the audio but instead of seeing any video, there's only the native aqua gray screen. This not only happens with downloaded mpgs or movs on the Internet, which
plays fine in whatever browser I'm using, but also with mov files I've made myself with Final Cut Pro.
I've already researched similar problems within this forum from the past few months and I've tried various suggested solutions, like trashing the QuickTime preferences, restarting, repairing permissions, but nothing has changed. I've also gone into QuickTime preferences>advanced>mime settings, checked the "video" box, clicked okay, and restarted, but when I drag a mov file onto the QuickTime icon in my dock, the SAME THING happens, audio without video.
This hasn't affected anything within FCP, but I can't see any of my files in QuickTime. The only thing I did lately was install a third party program to change the look of my iTunes interface, but I completely trashed my iTunes program, all related files, including my music library, and reinstalled them from my backup drive, in case that affected QT.
Any ideas?

Suddenly my iPad is not playing the sound on music videos. I have already tried holding down the sleep and home button...still not working.

Podcasts play sound but no video??!!

I subscribed to some podcasts on my iTunes today, and uploaded them to my iPhone. I'm beginning to get frustrated, as multiple podcasts from different subscriptions are all doing the same thing, they play the sound, but the video is frozen. I tried resetting the phone, same, re-uploading the same podcasts, same, and re-downloading and uploading new ones to the phone and the same... Should this happen after spending 700 on the 8gb with taxes and accessories? This is the first issue, and I am apple dedicated, but this is ridiculous! Help!

Podcasters do not have to make podcasts with video. if they do have video they do not have to be compatible with the iPhone.

Imovie plays sounds but not video

Hello,
When I am working in my project in iMovie, and I attempt to preview the video, it plays the sounds of the video but the preview pane is just blank. If I drag the timeline, it will show the video in the left pane, but never in the preview pane. Any Suggestions?

Playing sound but no video on Apple TV 2

Hi all
Ever since I updated the latest software on my Apple TV I am having issues "air playing" any movies or TV series from my iphone or ipad onto my apple TV. the sound plays through the TV but not the picture - any advice?
All the old movies or TV series I downloaded prior to downloading the apple TV update play perfectly using airplay between my iPad/iPhone and the TV but anything downloaded subsequently (after I updated the Apple TV software) only plays sound on my Apple TV and not the video

Firefox won't play sound on youtube video's but sound works in other applications

i can play sound as usual on other applications such as media player, vlc, itunes etc... but firefox and internet explorer do not work, google chrome doesnt even work. i have re-downloaded flash player and the pluggins many times trying to fix it, cleaned out my pc with ccleaner, anti-virus checked and such. i just cant fix it. i have before but i forget how and it always happens again after a while, especially just after pulling out speakers or headphones from the jack.

Try clearing the Cache in Firefox.
Tools-> Clear Recent History -> [v] Cache
or
Tools->Options->Advanced->Network -> Offline storage -> [Clear Now]
Youtube may have made some changes recently. Clear the Youtube cookie and refresh page if above does not do it.

1.1.3 - iPod Touch video podcasts play sound; only still image

For some strange reason, since getting the new update (but not the January update as I'm not going to pay £13 for that!) for my iPod Touch, video podcasts of trailers downloaded from Apple Trailers through iTunes play as sound files with a random frame from the video appearing as album art.
So if I turn my iPod Touch horizontal, the single image shows up at the end of Cover Flow as audio podcasts do when being played. However, there is no video at all. Normal videos play fine.
What the **** is going on?

Oh ... I'm so stupid. Sorry - when I wrote that they don't show up under VIDEO, I didn't actually check.
They are there and they do work. In fact, I think that as long as people like me remember which is which, having videos only play audio when played from the PODCASTS section is quite useful in some circumstances.
I've learnt my lesson.
Now if only I could get that update for free ...

Quicktime .MOV file plays audio only - no video

Okay, here goes...
I created a .MOV file from Avid via the H.264 codec. This file contains video and audio and was made on a Mac using Leopard. I played it back successfully on that machine.
I then copied it to a data DVD and put it on my XP PC with all OS software up to date. I have a freshly updated QT 7.6 install. The files will only play back audio on my PC - video appears black (if preferences are set to Direct X) or white (if preferences are set to safe mode). Video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO; driver is up to date.
Anybody have any insight into what I need to do to my PC to get this video to play?

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it doesn't directly address the issue I am having (though it does show me the world of hurt out there when FCP and Avid bump up against each other in the same post process).
And the third-party page doesn't have any codecs for Avid.
Again, I am at a loss. I created the QT files from my Avid project on a Mac. The files played back properly on that Mac. They won't play back on my Windows machine, so I can only assume that there's something missing or different between the QT versions for Mac and Windows.
Since I can't figure out how to get these files to play properly on a PC and since my home machine is a PC, I guess I will not output footage from Avid to a .MOV file in the future. I will try to find a format that Windows Media Player likes, I guess.
