Quicktime please please help

Ok, hi.. I just want to make a quicktime movie... I have searched on the forum, but not sure I have the anser.. basically it's for a festival and they want the short film as a high quality quicktime file... preobably to make a showreel of on FCP.. anwyay I try to export the movie, using the quicktime option, and it makes a file 4 gig in size which is four times the size fo the windows media file it normally makes, and when I play back it is stop and start.. how do I just export it normally to make a normal quicktime movie film.. pleae help even though this is probably very simple for you guys..all the thinks in advance.anton

Hi, thanks for quick response, basically it jsut a five minute vid... I made it in premiere... it's a normal pal project... basicall the festival just sent me an email saying they needed the film as a full quality quick time file... I try to make the film through the export movie then the quicktime option but the end file seem to come out really big.. I'm not going through the media encoder, jsut the export movie option, do I need to go through the media encoder, and can I get a full quality quicktime that way, if s what are the settings.. thanks.

Massive Heat Rise With Re-install of QuickTime - Please Help

Hello Everyone,
I had enquired on the Tiger OS X section about an issue I had when trying to watch content on the web and someone kindly gave me some instructions on uninstalling various things and reinstalling etc. After I did so, I noticed a massive rise in my temperature when QuickTime was just loaded - no content even being played. It jumped about 30ºC in a few minutes and was rising before I then closed QT. Tried a few times more and the same thing keeps happening. I have searched for solutions but have found none. Has anyone had this happen to them or know how to fix this on MBP? What is causing it - I am so new to Mac's my transition from PC is not going as smoothly as I I had hoped! Thank you kindly for responding. I had originally posted a question on the Tiger OS X discussion as I was having problems with viewing streaming/embedded video on the net and naturally thought it to be a software issue. A member in that discussion kindly gave me the following instructions which I tried to follow the best I could:-
"These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
*RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack*

In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of *Security Update 2007-009.1.1*, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)

In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from *http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/*
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.

As for the heat, my MBP usually hovers around the 40ºC mark - I just usually surf the web. After carrying the above (taking into account the points I made in the thread), As soon as you just launch QT and the QT window loads up, you can see the temperature rise almost immediately. It rises about a degree every 3 or 4 seconds and just keeps rising. The CPU activity rises drastically as well hitting over 70%. I usually stop QT when temp reaches 70ºC as I am concerned about my first ever mac & MBP! Nothing is being played in QT at all. Once I get rid of the QT window, the temp starts to drop even though QT is still loaded although it still keeps the temp high but nowhere near as when the QT window is on the desktop. I simply cannot believe it is a HW issue - QT was fine before - it was the online stuff that I had trouble viewing. I checked for all updates, did a few repair permissions and set settings as best I could. Here is a link to my actual thread:

Unable to play HD quicktime movie in Quicktime. please help!

I have exported a sequence from my HD project in FCP as a quicktime movie. when i play try to play it on my laptop, however, it opens but doesn't play. instead, a dialogue window opens requesting me to download third party components. if i decline, then the playhead plays in the quicktime window but no video appears. please let me know what, if any components i need to download. an help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

You exported from FCP using codecs only available to that app.
Export using the H.264 video codec to view the file (in HD dimensions) on any (supported by hardware and CPU) computer with QuickTime version 7 installed.

Problems installing Quicktime - please help!

I just purchased a new iPod and I attempted to install Quicktime 7 from the site and as the download completes, an error message pops up saying "Some installation files are corrupt. Please download a fresh copy and retry intstallation." I also tried installing the itunes and quicktime components using the iPod CD, but I also get an error message as the download completes telling me to get a fresh copy and start again. What should I do??? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Error with Quicktime- PLEASE HELP

I have been trying to figure this out forever. Nothing has worked. I want to download itunes, but my computer won't let me because it won't accept Quicktime, which is needed for itunes to function. I get an error message and all it says is to contact your local support. I have all this music on my ipod from my brothers computer, but I can't add any of my own while he's at college! So annoying! After spending an hour with AppleCare technition, uninstalling QT v7.3 and finding the same propblems as others here in this forum, I asked about delayed connections and slow speed of my desktop, the solution I tried solved the problem with QT v7.3, today it works fine.
After closing all open applications and shutting down the computer by logging out. I pressed the following keys to clean the ram: alt command P R. Then with the other hand, pressed the start button or ON button on my desktop. I continued holding those 4 keys down until I had heard 5 (five)
chimes and released.
Then I went to YOUTUBE.com and clicked a video and this time it played. So QuickTime v7 works fine.

Out of sync audio when trying to capture from digital 8 camera to quicktime, please help

Just trying to capture hi 8 tapes using a sony digital 8 dcr-trv355e pal into quicktime;
great clear video but audio becomes out of sync like a bad kungfu movie,
contacted apple they tried to help, but they dont really understand issue
there are lots of people out there that are trying to digitise old analog video;
I have fcpx and imovie they both play the old video via the digital 8 camera but cannot capture;

Yes i think its something to do ith the fact its a wmv file, when i use mpeg footage it exports fine.
basically, no matter how long the video, the video is out of sync...its weird
i've decided the best thing to do is leave quicktime and export using windows media instead, that seems to give me a better looking picture witha small file size anyway

Re-installing Mac OS X after deleting quicktime, please help!

Hello everyone, big problem on my hands, if anyone can help, i will send karma, and whatever you guys want... So this is what happened, i downloaded the new Quicktime, and of course it screw itself up during upload, and my quicktime was messed up, so i deleted quicktime, and now its worse cause i cant re-install it, and when i try to re-install tiger, the disk ejects itself instead of loading, so basically there isnt anything i can do, or is there?
Ive tried inserting the re-install disk and it just ejects it. Someone help, cause i cant even use some basic apps, that i need... What can i do?
I am running 10.4.10, 1.42 mac mini 1g Ram. Combo drive.

How exactly did you 'delete quicktime'?
What do you mean when you say the install disk is ejected? How are you trying to use it?
Will your Mac start up normally? If so, what happens when you insert the installer disk?

New to Quicktime-Please Help-Not Playing Streaming Video

_PLEASE HELP, I AM NEW TO THIS._ I can't see that Quicktime is playing streaming videos. I have the latest version of Quicktime including Perian and every other plug-in I can find. In System Preferences I have tried Automatic and Custom (Port 80) for the Transport Protocol. I have everything checked in the MIME settings. In Safari Preferences I have all the plug-ins enabled. The streaming videos play in Safari, but if I try to open ANY URL in Quicktime, it says URL INVALID. THANK YOU.

I dont believe you can put a youtube link in quicktime itself. An easy way to download them however is to add &fmt=18 for HQ videos or &fmt=22 for HD videos to the end of the youtube url ex http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRSbC6HAgNE&fmt=18 Then load that page and then in safari click window then activity. Find the one with the largest size (should be the only one in MB) and double click on it. THen it will download to where you set safari to download your files.

100% cpu usage when opening itunes or quicktime, please help!

every time i open itunes or quicktime my windows laptop centrino´s core jumps to 100%, even when the programs are idle!!
-i tried reinstalling them, manually removing any leftover program files and folders.
-Right-clicking on the QuickTime folder and clicking Delete from the shortcut menu.

now i cant listen to music with only my batteries anymore!

I purchased the Quicktime pro and downloaded codecs from perian first - I tried playing an .avi file movie and got no sound. Then I downloaded codecs from DivX player site - and still no sound - video is fine.
I have sound using other formats and also when watching trailers on the internet

You might try Perian plugin for QuickTime. I actually haven't come across anything since I've installed it to really try it out but it seems to be getting very good reviews everywhere I've seen it mentioned.
Obviously you're not going to be able to get Quicktime to play everything just like you can't get VLC or Windows Media Player or Real..... but you just kind of have to keep finding the proper plugins for all the various media out there.

HOW TO GET GOOD RES/LOW SIZE QUICKTIME - PLEASE HELP!

I'm making music videos and am trying to make good quality Quicktimes for streaming on the web, with the lowest file size possible.
The lowest I can get a 4 minute video is around 30MB, but I checked out some videos at www.flatnosegeorge.com and they're good quality as well as small file sizes (around 10MB). How do they do this..?! By contrast one of my videos (at www.tokyodragons.com) is 30MB and doesn't look as good quality!
The settings I'm using are these:
Video Settings: Sorenson Video 3
Qual: High
Motion: 25 Frames
Key Frame Every: 250
Lomit Data Rate to: 1100
Sound Compressor: MPEG Audio 4
44,100
16 Bit
Stereo
Any ideas on how to get it to be good res at a lower file size..?

Also, dropping the frame rate should massively effect filesize and you might not even notice the difference when viewing. If your original sequence is 25 fps try halving it to 12fps.

Trouble with 2nd audio track when exporting to Quicktime - please help!

Ok - I've made my DV movie in IMovie - all ok. When I export to Quicktime the second audio track (an mp3 imported from iTune) jumps up in volume unexpectedly but always in the same place. There is no such jump in the original and I haven't put in any nodes to boost the volume etc.
Any ideas guys??

Can't unistall Quicktime - Please help

I'm trying to uninstall QT because it won't work in order that I can reinstall.
Have removed what I thought was every vestige of QT but when I try to install QT v7.1.3 I get a message that I can't install becuase "I have a newer version already installed"
How can this be?
Any suggestions what might be left of QT that's stopping me and how I might get past this?

Try this: go to your Add/Remove programs and uninstall QuickTime (if you haven't already).
Next, manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (the file extensions won't show unless you have the Windows option to show all file extensions set).
7. Restart your computer.
Next, install a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC, either by downloading the installer (which you may have done) or, if you're running iTunes 7, by doing a repair install of iTunes. Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
If you're using iTunes, go into Add/Remove and select iTunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair". Otherwise, just run the iTunes 7.1.3 installer.
if the install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching QuickTime again. Does it launch properly now?

How do i put a picture of the event on my .mpg4 file ? Please Help

basically this is my problem. Just got a new sony camera and now i cant see a picture of the movie even. i would like to know which to select.
when i go to open my movie folder i used to be able see the picture events of all my movies so i knew which to select. now all i get is mpg4 icon for each movie. on my old camera it never did this i can see the picture event of the movie. sony says its a problem with codex file and need to contact quicktime.
please help.

Tap the On/Off button and at the same time tap the Home button. The resultant picture will be saved to your "Camera Roll".
