Quicktime Plug-ins/Codecs

Can anyone tell me where or how to get things like DivX and other things that don't run on quicktime now to work on quicktime? Help is greatly appreciated.

Nawid,
Here you can find a plug-in from DIvx that allows you to play Divx with Quicktime. If you reed carefully you will see that it's free:
http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
at flipformac there is a plug in (fee) that wil allow you to play .wmv with Quicktime:
http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_features.htm
The free/shareware players VLC and Mplayer OS X will support most media types, you won't be able to read with the Quicktime player.

  • WMP OR Quicktime plug ins????

I need to look at clips on e-mail, and my G5 won't read them. Should I download Windows Media Player or Mac or the plug-ins from MS which make QT work with it???
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/mp9/default.aspx
    OR...
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
(BTW, my iMac did not know what to do with the WMP download...)
Thanks all. Again, a GREAT site with great folks.

"Microsoft says so..isn't that the kiss of death."
Well, normally I might agree, but since it means that they are getting out of "supporting" Macs - if you want to call it that - by finally ditching Internet Explorer (which they haven't updated in eons) and Windows Media Player (ditto), then it really is a good thing.
I am no Microsoft basher, but recently the only good thing that they have done for the Mac is Office.

  • What QuickTime plug-ins do I need?

I have a Microsoft file format MP4S (which is apparently MPEG 4) that I need to open in QuickTime.
Can anyone suggest what QuickTime Plug-In in necessary to open this file.
    Many Thanks
    Marv

    Thanks Colin & others,
    I finally resolved the issue.
Here is a synopsis of the problem & the solution that worked for me. I should add this Forum (and several other friends who helped) never cease to be a wonderful source of ideas & support. Grateful thanks to them.
The test file was 30 seconds of colour bars (PAL) recorded as HD 1080p and the file was encoded by a default Microsoft MPEG-4 format called MP4S with a resolution of 720x576.
Ultimately I needed to be able to import the file into Final Cut Pro V.6 for editing & so the file needed to be transcoded into a QuickTime supported format.
VLC was the only software I found capable of opening this file as QT would not. When I attempted to open it, a QuickTime dialogue box responded - This file is not a movie file.
After a long search an application called VisualHub
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/visualhub.html
offered the ability to transcode the existing format which was MP4S to H.264 (also MPEG-4). QuickTime was then able to open this new file & subsequently importing it into Final Cut Pro was made easy.
I love happy endings. Thanks to all.
    Kind Regards,

  • Quicktime plug ins

    Hi everybody,
I am using Mac OS X but had the same problem with other OS macs or windows alike.
When Quicktime tells you it cannot play the file and send you to the plug in page. How do we find out which plug in is the missing one without having to install all of them.
hank you for your precious and wonderful help.
    Francis

I think you mean the components page, and yes, it can be confusing. If you have QuickTime Pro and can download the movie that had the problem, or if you view the movie in Safari and option-double click on the movie file listed in the Activity window to download it, you could then open the file in QuickTime Player to see the movie info. In there you should be able to see what audio and video codec is used.
You could also directly open the movie URL in QuickTime Player. You should be able to get the URL from the web page source html.
Is there an example movie you can give the link to, for us to see what special component it might need?

  • QuickTime plug-ins: Filters

Is there a plug-in for QT that allows Photoshop-like "Levels" adjustment?
The one that comes with QT is very limited.
If I export the QT video with a Filter active, are the filter-results "burned into" the exported movie?
    Thanks

Years ago (10 years) Apple had filters that plugged into Quicktime. I think the only filter are the ones that come with Quicktime now.

  • Why do I have 2 Quicktime 7.6.4 plug ins?

When I looked up which internet plug-ins I had, I noticed that there were 2 Quicktime plug-ins. One was labeled Quicktimeplugin.webplugin and the other Quicktimeplugin.plugin. In the Mac HD library folder they are both in the internet lug-in folder. When I get info for both the plugin.plugin was modified yesterday and the webplugin.plugin is alot older, but when I open up there package contents it states they were both modified yesterday when i downloaded the software update. Do I keep them both or do I delete one? And how would I delte one completely/

Yes, you need them both. They have different functions, which is why they have different names.
Best just to leave them be.

  • Two new problems with the Quicktime Plug-in

I recently discovered two new problems with the current Quicktime Plug-in for Mac OS X.
First, the Quicktime Plug-in is unable to stream Quicktime media in any internet browsers other than Safari.
There is just nothing on the spot where the embedded Quicktime player should be.
Second, the Quicktime Plug-in only shows the message "The operation couldn't be completed. This file is not a movie file (-2048)"
everytime it should work together with the Flip4Mac Plug-in. The thing is, when facing a webpage where a wmv or wma file is
embedded, there only shows that error message on the spot where the player should exist. I first thought that it would be a
problem with Flip4Mac. So I uploaded about this problem on telestream.net, only to hear that the error message above belongs
    to the Quicktime Plug-in.
Both of these problems did not happen at all only three weeks ago. The embedded Quicktime player showed up without any problem
in my Firefox and Opera, and wmv or wma files were streamed successfully through the Flip4Mac and Quicktime Plug-ins.
Then, suddenly, after some point, these two problems began to occur, and there is no information on how to solve them on the web.
I obviously tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime. I even completely erased the hard disk of my Macbook, and reinstalled the
whole Mac OS X. But the problems still remained. I borrowed another Macbook from my friend to check whether these problems
occur in other computers, and they did occur in my friend's Macbook as well. So they are definitely not the matter of my own Macbook only.
I think these might be the problems with the new Quicktime Plug-in 7.7.1.
Please check about these problems and solve them on the next version of the Quicktime Plug-in.
I will give you a couple of hyperlinks so that you can check about the problems directly.

I recommend that you repeat all this via

  • How can I check Plug-Ins?

    Hi,
how can I check if my QuickTime Plug-Ins are still current? In most browsers there is an option "About Plug-Ins" which lists all installed Plug-Ins. Is something similar available for QuickTime?
    Thanks!

There should show two sets of QuickTime plug-ins (7.1.3 and 7.1.5).
    7.1.3 is the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
    7.1.5 is the QuickTime Plugin.plugin.
The "webplugin" is used by Dashboard Widgets (just special html code). It is listed as version 7.1.3 in error as the Finder Get Info window reveals it to be 7.1.5. The error (wrong version number) could be caused by Safari but that is just a guess.

  • Plug-ins problems

i downloaded safari beta 3, then i un-installed it bcz i wasn't happy with it. i aj using safari 2.0.4 , but unfortunately i can't use quicktime plug-ins for some reason. i downloaded quicktime and WMP and flip4mac, a big quicktime logo appears with a question mark in the middle of it. i had this problem with cnn.com streaming and pictures of the week from yahoo.com
    any solutions?

    Hi
If you are seeing the QuickTime ?, check your QT settings in System Preferences>QuickTime>Advanced:
Enable flash ought to be checked on the Advanced panel.
    Look at your Mime Settings:
    - still images - everything but Photoshop, Flash Pic and PDF selected;
    - video - at least Quicktime Movie.
    - Miscellaneous - nothing checked.
Just to be sure your permissions are current, "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder before you restart Safari.

  • HELP! Where should I put my codecs and plug-ins!?

I do a bit of amateur editing, and I have a bunch of codecs and plug-ins. And a few months ago, I realized I MIGHT have been putting them in the wrong folder!
Macintosh HD / Library / Quicktime
So... I "copied all" and I pasted into the OTHER folder that seemed to have some codecs and plug-ins:
Macintosh HD / System / Library / Quicktime
Then, I "copied all" from THAT folder into the other folder, not overwriting duplicates.
I DO remember that there were some in BOTH folders before I started adding...
HELP! Where should they all go?
    tia,
    e

Um, mpeg2, Divx, etc... flip and perian are fine, but don't come anywhere NEAR allowing you to play the totality of formats out there.
However, I guess my question should have been, which ones are "Apples" and which ones aren't... I'd love to NOT have duplicates in both folders.
Is there anywhere that lists the "default" Apple Quicktime Pro codecs and plug-ins that should be in that "apple only" folder?

  • I have a Mac Air with lion OS 10.7.2 I have firefox to 9.0 now I don't have Quicktime plug in my list of plug-ins. Is there anyway to get the Quicktime plug-in into my Firefox?

Nov 2011 Macbook air running LION OS 10.7.2, Installed the latest firefox that is out there, then installed the Beta 9.o. Quicktime not showing up in the plug-ins list and have installed flip for Mac. Is there a way to bring in Quicktime plug-in into Firefox...

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • Why won't Quicktime 7.2 work even after installing plug-ins?

After initially installing Quicktime 7.2, a faint question mark would appear instead of internet videos which required quicktime. I installed one kind of plug-in, but this only fixed it for a little while. Then I installed a bunch of other plug-ins hoping that this would fix it but it only fixed it for a while as before. How do I resolve this problem? I have a mac and mac osx 10.4.10 and use Firefox for internet browsing. And, how do I even tell where my plug-ins are? Thanks!

    Apple Discussions!
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software
QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > MIME Stettings > Miscellaneous.
    Deactivate the "Flash Media" option.
This tells the browser not to to display Flash Media and lets the newly installed Adobe software work its magic.
"And, how do I even tell where my plug-ins are?"
If you actually know the names of the plug-ins, you can use Spotlight to locate or you can manually check the following folders:
    HD>Library>Internet Plug-Ins
    Home>Library>Internet Plug-Ins
    HD>Library>QuickTime

  • All Plug-Ins in Safari are not working... flash, windows media, quicktime.

Hello to anybody that might be able to help me,
None of my plug-ins are working. Flash, Quicktime, Windows Media etc. are doing nothing. When I go to nba.com for example, the whole top flash element is just not there.
When I go to help menu and look at installed plug-ins... it appears as if they are all there. Anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    James
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Well... that was stupid... I just figured it out. Setting I just managed not to notice before. In preferences under security, I had to check "enable plug-ins". Don't know how it got unclicked, but anways, yeah.

  • Missing Quicktime brower plug ins

I installed Quicktime twice and when I open my browser (Explorer, Firefox, Safari), the plug-ins are missing.
I re-install it again and the same thing happens over and over again.

This is because the plug-ins are not compatible to any other player save WMplayer(?). If other players plug-ins are present, then QuickTime cannot be used in Firefox because of multiple issues, which really are from the adding in of what is called Apple support framework which has multiple issues with its own resources, not to mention those of other players.

  • Missing Plug ins for 1channel videos

Since I upgraded my mac to mountain lion, I cannot watch movies on 1channel. I get the error Missing plug ins, and cannot seem to download or find the plug in on the website. I believe its DIVix?
I had no problems prior to my upgrade.
    Any tips?
    thanks!

    You probably need the following:
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
