Quicktime Plugin broken and no option to re-install

Please help
I'm normally able to fix things that break but this time I am lost.
Having upgraded to SL and Quicktime X my Quicktime Plugin (7.6.3) has become corrupt and won't load any videos from the apple website.
I have tried re-installing SL, deleting the plugin, repairing permissions. Apple suggest re-installing quicktime but as soon as you try it just tells you that you can't re-install it as you have a newer version QT X.
The plugin works in firefox so its just a safari issue. (I also can't download a new safari as I have to new a version.)
Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Sorry no help here, but just want to state that I have a similar problem. Having upgraded to Snow Leopard, and Quicktime X and Quicktime 7 (Pro) installed the Quicktime plugin doesn't work in Safari. Firefox works o.k.
I do have Flip4Mac WMV installed - not sure whether that's relevant.

  • Quicktime Plugin crashes and Window size not correct when running a course from an LMS (Coursemill)

    I am trying to run a course from an LMS (Coursemill) and a couple issues are occurring.
    First, the quicktime plugin crashes, therefore the mp3 sound of the course does not play. When I reload the page, I get an "Unable to find API adapter" error message and the page won't load.
    Also, the predetermined window size does not work properly and I end up with vertical and horizontal scroll bars which I do not want.
    These issues are of high importance and need a solution ASAP. Please contact me.

  • Osx v10.4 tiger ,my cd broken and I need to re-install?

    osx v10.4 tiger,My cd broken and ineed to re-install it?

    Hi Stephen, & a warm welcome to the forums!
    Check whether you need a 6 pin to 9 pin FW cable or whatever each end has.
    If you can get use of that other Mac, use FireWire target disk mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
    Put the Install DVD in the the other Mac, shut both down, connect with a Firewire cable, boot the other Mac holding the t key down, once the floating FW symbol shows up, boot the this Mac holding the Option/alt key down, eventually the Install Disk will show as a Boot Option on this one.

  • I got a message saying that iPhoto is broken and to delete it & re-install it from the app store

    Then, I deleted it like it said and went the app store, and it wanted to charge me the regular $15. Is there any way to get around this?

    What version of iPhoto are you using now?  This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
    Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
    Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • Quicktime X broken after security and Safari updates.

    Ran software update yesterday and updated Safari to 5.1.1 and got the latest security update. Now Quicktime X is broken. Still have the app but the icon is missing and it won't start. My old QT 7 still seems to work fine. Tried repairing permissions and restarting several times. Any other ideas? Wish they would just allow us to download and install QT X...

    Sorry to say but this did not work for me. I was able to find an installation of QTP 7.6.4 (which still has the Quicktime Preferences menu option). However, I was not able to install the older version of QTP even after trashing QTP app, and its associated preference files and rebooting my MacBook Pro. The installation program displayed a message that a new version of Quicktime was detected and would not allow me to continue the installation of the previous version. I then found a program called Pacifist http://www.charlessoft.com/ that allowed me to do the installation.
    My reference movies are now behaving as they should. Unquestionably there is a problem with Quicktime Player 7.6.6 which Apple really should address right away.
    BTW, after doing this, my Pro key seems to be intact. I just purchase Final Cut Studio upgrade. I guess I leave QT 7.6.4 and ignore software updates fopr Quicktime until I see 7.6.8.
    Unfortunately, I'll have a difficult time explaining this to my clients. In effect, this screw up by Apple makes it inadvisable for me to provide reference movies with alternates for my clients.

  • After Effects 7.0 and Quicktime Plugin Conflict

    Hello "forum-ers",
    I'm using Adobe After Effects 7.0, and i've created a video in the same.I want to use this video in Adobe Flash CS3.Neither the flv nor the Quicktime formats are available in the render queue options.I presume its because i do not have Quicktime installed.But if i try to install Quicktime, AE wouldn't load.It displays a message, error while loading plug-in "Scripting", and then crashes.So, i guess there's a shared plugin somewhere in between the two.
    So if i use QT,i cant open AE.If i use AE,i cant save in QT.Similar problem lies in Flash, and its CS3 Encoder.Without installing QT, it displays a message : install DirectShow 9 "and" Quicktime 7.
    Any help appreciated!
    Many Thankx,

    I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like something is severely mixed up on your system. Do you by any chance use some widget-y system extensions? Users have reported some funny things going on when e.g. MenuMaster or specific news feed widgets are installed. In any case, since for the time being you seem to be stuck with no QT in AE, you should work with TIFF files and PSDs. Both formats are reasonably compressed (for TIFF, enable the LZW option), support 16bpc and they are handled by native Adobe loaders/ savers, which should eliminate any potential interference side effects from your defunct QT routines. In addition, TIFFs can play almost realtime in AE just like some QT CoDecs, which helps when scrubbing through a complex project.

    for some inexplicable reason, I cannot get the Quicktime plugin to update from v7.7.3 to the CURRENT 7.6.6 . My plugins view tells me I'm at risk and need to update but try as I might, through all the known update avenues, it won't take. I consider myself and above average Mac User. Please advise. Someone recently noted a problem staying logged on the Huffington Post since it became connected with AOL. The workaround for that is to change your connection setting here:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network
    Click the "Settings" button and choose either "No Proxy" or "Use System Settings" option, and OK the change.
    Not sure whether Washington Post could be affected by that same setting.
    In reviewing your extensions, I'm puzzled that you have both DoNotTrackMe and SavvyConnect. The first one seems to aggressively block certain communications with websites (potentially affecting functionality) while the second one seems to report on your browsing habits (they better pay well is all I can say). Have you tried disabling both of those to see whether that has any effect?

  • Quicktime Plugin missing Fullscreen option

    Why doesn't the QuickTime Browser plugin have a fullscreen option? Even in the silly "Pro" option. I have a huge screen and I'm stuck watching tiny movies in tiny frames. Other plugins such as WMP, VLC, mplayer etc support fullscreen, but NOT QT. Fix this NOW!

    Yeah, it's the content providers that determine the viewable size. It's not a Flip4Mac, or other player pref. If you were to encode something for the web, you would, generally, have a constraint in size so that the file size and download time remain minimal. One way to see this in an example is to look at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/ The larger the viewable image, the bigger the file and longer time to download, or stream.

  • When I open iTunes, it will not allow me to preview or download TV shows. The preview and download options are gray and will not let me view them. I have the latest Quicktime so I don't know what's wrong

    When I open iTunes, it will not allow me to preview or download TV shows. The preview and download options are gray and will not let me view them. I have tried installing the latest Quicktime but it tells me that I have to do software update and when I do, Quicktime does not appear to need an update. I have no idea what to do

    Click on your preference and check the Parental tab for possible restrictions.  Open iTunes, then click the iTunes menu, select preferences after the window opens click on the Parental icon, take a look at the content restrictions section.

  • I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. I have tried to download the latest plugin but this doesn't work. Can anyone help?

    I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet using either Safari or Firefox. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. Can anyone help?

    Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
    When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Colour background for quicktime plugin and favicons

    Hi, a trivial query. I have seen some sites where the background colour for the quicktime plugin player is black not white. On my proto site http://www.goldenumber.co.uk/beermatts_trumpet_pages/ if you click on the midi files the player has a white background which I would prefer to be black. Do I need to edit the midi file itself? Any suggestions gratefully received.
    Secondly, when I access the midi files or the pdfs I lose my favicon image in the address bar. Is there a way around this?
    Regards, Matt.

    I still see a white background when I click on a MIDI file link.
    Unless you place the MIDI file in a web page (such as with EMBED SRC), you cannot control how the MIDI player plugin will display in the browser. Look at the zianet.com page linked above for an example. The directory web page is black (with text and graphics) and plays 'Hold on to the Night' in the background because it is embedded in the HTML.
    If you want to control the appearance, you need to create a new HTML page for each MIDI file.
    Example:
    Create a new file called '
    The_Fields_of_Athenry.html' and use the following example HTML...
    <html><head>
    <title>The Fields of Athenry</title></head>
    <body bgcolor="black">
    <EMBED SRC="http://www.goldenumber.co.uk/beermatts_trumpet_pages/midis/The_Fields_of_Athenry.mid " AUTOSTART="true" HIDDEN="false" Width="145" Height="24">
    </body>
    </html>
    Link to this HTML file instead of the MIDI file.

  • Safari 5.1.7 and QuickTime Plugin problem. Either no PDF or no

    With QuickTime plugin.plugin installed in the library/internet plugins folder pdf files will not load
    Removing the QuickTime plugin.plugin file then allows me to read pdfs BUT THEN NO SOUND with imbedded AIFF audio file in iWeb Quicktime element. All I get is missing plug in message.
    Help please

    Delete the following items (some may not exist) from the Library folder of your home folder (not the one at the top level of the startup volume):
    Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
    Relaunch Safari and test.

  • I've upgraded to firefox 4/snow leopard and now my .avi's won't play using the quicktime plugin. What am I doing wrong?

    I'm unable to play .avi's in Firefox 4 that worked fine in Firefox 3. I just get a blank page. I've also upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (prior to upgrading Firefox) since the last time I viewed them.
    I'm serving these files from my local harddrive so the url starts with file::
    I believe these were displayed using the quicktime plugin. Firefox reports my current quicktime plugin as version 7.6.6
    I need to get this working because I'm giving a talk soon, and I've been using references in my talk pdf to link to the movies.
    ======
    Just checked, and my movies play fine in Safari. Crud. I'd rather not have to switch to Safari as my default browser. Yuk.

    Update: Turns out this is only a problem when the .avi is stored locally and served locally. I uploaded the file to a server and then pointed Firefox there. In that case it displays just fine. Weird.

  • Audio and Video option missing from Export Quicktime Movie Include

    Today as I was exporting a clip, I noticed that the Audio and Video option was missing from the Include drop down. I only have the options of Left, Center, Right.
    I highlight the sequence, control E (or File>Export>Quicktime Movie) and the Save window comes up. The Settings drop down is the same, the Markers: drop down is the same, but the Include: has the options of Left, Center and Right. I thought the Video and Audio dropdowns were always there. I hate to admit it, but I have not paid attention to them in a while. Getting old I guess.

    Thanks, forgot about that.
    For what ever reason it started working correctly a couple of hours later, after I started an SD project. The video came out fine
    I had been trying out a couple new applications, so maybe one was causing it. I will see if it happens in the future.
