QuickTime Plugin ? on Safari

I have just intstalled the new Flash 9 Player on my MacBookPro, but since it's installation a ? has appeared on the QuickTime icon when I've visted sites like
http://uk.playstation.com/pdcf/index.jhtml.
I have removed plugins from my Internet Plug-Ins folder in Library, but it hasn't solved my problem.

I managed to solve this problem by opening Safari up in the Rosetta mode.

  • How to reinstall Quicktime Plugin for Safari in Mac

I recently deleted all plugins for Safari in Mac, in order to fix unusual (slow at times) speed of safari.
When I watch a trailer at apple.com/trailers, it works fine.
However, when I try to watch a HD version of the trailer, I get this message
"The document “stone-fte1_480p.mov” could not be opened. "
Please advise how to reinstall the necessary Quicktime plugin in order for it work fine like before.

    Hi and welcome....
Insert your install disc or your Snow Leopard disc. It should open when it mounts the disc on your Desktop. If not, double click the icon.
Open the Optional Installs folder then the Optional Installs.mpkg folder.
Go through the install process. When you get to Installation Type / Custom Install
    Select QuickTime 7
Click Continue. Restart your Mac. Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If you don't have your install disc handy, you can download the QT software here. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923

  • Quicktime plugin in Safari on iPhone

I am able to view my security cameras over the internet from the Digital Video Recorder which is connect to my router.
The inbuilt DVR application uses Quicktime to display the video and this works well on any PC.
However, while the iPhone and iPad can access and open the site and application, the Quicktime screen has a crossed play button and the bugging tip states that "Quicktime Movie could not be played".
Can anyone tell me how I can get Quicktime to display the video?  I cannot find any options on the iPhone or iPad that explains this.
    Thanks

    thanks johnathan.
According the Apple's website, QuickTime is an open application that can be used by developers.  The use of QuickTime in the DVR application makes sense as PC and Apple computers can display the video.
From a user point of view I would expect Safari to have the same, or at least similar, capabilities on both computers and mobile devices.  It may well be a different problem I.e. video format, but again I would expect the same problem on computers.  I must admin that my HTC mobile phone has the same issue as the iPhone.
I have reported the problem as a bug to Apple and I see from another forum topic that some users have had the same problem with QuickTime on theiR iPads.

  • Quicktime plugin in Safari won't play m4v files

    Hi there,
Since the iTunes 9.0.3 update, html documents with embedded .m4v files will not play through the QT plugin. i.e. All I see is the QT logo with a question mark. Linking to the file directly, causes it to download and open up in iTunes by default. It will play in QT.
Here's a web page showing this behaviour: http://www.frettedamericana.com/
This is occurring on my MBPro (Snow Leopard) and iMac (Leopard).
How do I restore the QT plugin to opening the file by default in Safari?
I apologize for not knowing which forum to post this: QT, iTunes, or Safari...
    Cheers,

Fretted Americana just posted another video on their homepage. Embedded URL for video is http://frettedamericana.com/images/guitars/00950/00950_00950 Phil Gibson SG Special.m4v
No period in the middle of the filename, same problem however...

  • Quicktime Plugin Issue in Safari on Mac OSX Lion.

(Strange) Safari - Quicktime - issue on Mac OSX Lion (All Updates done - 20/11/2011)
Strange issue with Safari - Quicktime video playing - on Mac OSX Lion (All updates done till 20th Nov 2011 night)
Problem discovery: Tried to view the Apple iPhone 4S Keynote on Apple Website. Strange that Safari does not display any videos from Apple Website.
Following works OK:- You Tube worked fine.
    - Google Chrome worked fine. (It shows the quick time player loading and then displays the video absolutely fine.)
Conclusion: There is some problem with Safari Quicktime Plug-in.
    Strange Discovery:
    - There are two users on the MAC. Logged in with a general user (Non Admin)
    - When tried to view Apple Videos on Safary ... THEY WORKED FINE !!!
    - The user where they donot work is an ADMIN User ... Strange !!!
    System:
    - Mac-Mini 2010 - 8 GB RAM - with OSX Lion fully software updated until 20th Nov 2011 night.
    - DIVX is installed and is also a paid version - registered with DIVX website.
    - VLC is installed.
    - Perian was installed - after problem discovery - uninstalled it - no use.
Please help with a solution if anyone has faced and solved this problem. Sub question is : If DIVX / anyother plug-in causes problems with QuickTime plugin on Safari, why does it affect only one user on the system and not other users on that system ?
    Notes:
    1) There is a similar looking thread on MacRumors here but concluded that required to start a seperate one with clear problem statement.
    2) Apple Forums
    (a) One thread on topic that hints that some 3IVX plug-in can cause issues with Safari Quicktime Plugin: here
    (b) Another thread from Apple Forum, that hints that DIVX causes problems to Safari Quicktime Plug in, Link is Here

Refer to a thread on Apple Discussions Forum itself, Link is HERE; refer to the posting by "Charles Cole",

Re: Does anyone recommend OS X Lion?
Aug 2, 2011 8:09 PM (in response to Landrix)
Charles writes about DIVX and QuickTime Plugin conflict in Safari:
One thing I've discovered that might help anyone having a Quicktime Plug-in issue. If you have DivX as a codec on your system (usually installed to play .avi files) you'll want to uninstall it so that Sarfari 5.1 will default to the Quicktime Plug-In and not the DivX plug-in. Otherwise, you can't see Quicktime movies in Safari.
Note: this post is about and at the time of OSX Lions launch, i.e. 10.7.0.
Now we have 10.7.2, still cannot believe Apple has not fixed this bug !!!

  • Quicktime plugin & preview of histroy

    1) It seems my quicktime plugin for Safari has some problems, I cannot view any quicktime content with Safari only on Apple.com (Firefox works fine) - How do I re-install the plugin?
    2) In full history search I can see the snapshots of most of the webpage, but not for all of them, - why?

    HI,
It might not be QT that you need to reinstall. If you visit sites such as YouTube or CNN... they require the Flash plugin. You probably have an older version installed. Unintall then reintall Flash and see if that helps.
    Uninstall Flash
    Install Flash here
*"In full history search I can see the snapshots of most of the webpage, but not for all of them, - why?"*
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari / Empty cache then relaunch Safari and see if that helps.
Check to see you have both QT 10 and QT 7 installed. QT 10
QT 10 is in your Applications folder. QT 7 is in Applications/Utilities
If you do no have QT 7 installed, Insert the Snow Leopard install disk. Open the Optional Installs folder, then open Optional Installs.mpkg
An Installer will start... click Continue. When you get to the Installation Type in the window on the right you will see: Applications. Click the Disclosure triangle so it faces down. Select the apps you want to install and click Continue.

  • Quicktime plugin will not run in any browser including Safari!  Help!

Quicktime plugin will NOT run in any browser.  I've been reading a lot about this issue and it seems to be a widespread problem.  I didn't have this issue a few weeks ago.  perhaps it has something to do with OS 10.6.7?  Help, desperate for a solution.

Post a URL?  Not sure what you mean as it does not seem to be website specific.  I can't view apple movie trailers on apple.com in Safari or Firefox.  The plugins just are not there.  I've download QT and it shows up in my Utilities folder but no where to be found within firefox plugins/add-ons - same goes for Safari but the plug-ins I do have ARE enabled.  Each time I try, I get the install missing plugin prompt, which I do, and as stated before - nothing happens.  I've read a lot about moving things in/out of internet plug-in folders in various places, preferences folders, etc. but no luck so far.
    Thank you.

  • Safari Quicktime plugin and filtering proxy

I there. I work in a secondary school in the UK and we have a suite of iMacs that are integrated into our Windows network. We've just encountered a frustrating problem using Safari (4.0.4) and our internal filtering proxy machine (RM SmartCache (2a.9.9) -a third-party product built on linux, but sadly I can't provide any more information than that about its internals).
Our webfilter is set to authenticate users via Active Directory. On the Macs, it cannot do this, so asks users to manually log in with their AD credentials when they request a page. Frustrating for them (largely because they haven't figured out what the 'Remember this password' tickbox does), but it works.
The problem we're having is that the Quicktime plugin for embedded videos also asks for authentication credentials for the webfilter box, but never accepts any and the video never plays - it just pops up the authentication request dialog over and over, regardless of the credentials you provide or the form you type them (username, domain\username, domain/username etc).
(FYI, the page prompting the question in http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#idvd , but this also occurs with other Quicktime embedded movies on other sites.)
To add to this issue, I've tested the same functionality in Firefox 3.6, and it works correctly. The Quicktime plugin still requests proxy authentication, but it only asks once, then starts playing the video.
Has anyone encountered this, or a similar problem before? Does anyone have any ideas where I can look next to resolve this? I'd prefer not to have to roll out Firefox to the Macs, if it can be avoided...
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy B

  • Why does safari/quicktime plugin not allow me to save mp3 files

    hello,
there is a website allowing me to download mp3 files. But unlike windows where I can do "save as" -there is no such option available in safari/quicktime plugin.
is it that apple doesn't want me to save any mp3 files?

  • Safari Quicktime Plugin - Can I Make Playback Fullscreen ??

    Hi,
Now I might be missing something because I'm a new user but I have searched the forums and my setup but can't find an answer.
I use Elgatos EyeTV product and have some recordings on my Mac Mini downstairs which I have flagged as available for wifi access within EyeTV. This make them available via a URL in Safari and I can access the page fine from my MacBook upstairs.
The issue I have is that when I play a recording inside Safari and it starts to play as a Quicktime movie (using the Quicktime plugin), it plays in a small window inside the browser and I cannot see how to get it full screen.
My only option is to copy the URL from Safari and paste it into the Quicktime Pro app itself and then switch to full screen from there.
Is there anyway to get Safari to launch the recordings into Quicktime Pro itself rather than the browser browser and thus enable me to switch to full screen without any wasted effort?
I am assuming of course that this is something that is Quicktime/Safari related rather then EyeTV and that any Quicktime movie viewed via Safari will appear in a plugin window.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Kind Regards

Can somebody give me a hint?If you don't already have the latest version of the Adobe Flash software installed, download and install it. If already installed, go to the "QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > MIME Settings > Misc. > Flash Media" area and uncheck this option. Doing so tells the QT browser plug-in to let the Adobe Flash software handle this media. Leaving it checked tells the QT browser to process the media itself but the QT plug-in is only rated for use up to Flash v5 compatible content.

  • Safari 5 not supported by UBOC (Quicktime Plugin)

After Safari 5 came out, (August '10) my bank's website would throw me out after logging into my account. I could login, but when trying to go beyond the first page I would be thrown back to the password page. Their only solution was to deactivate all plugins. They told me they were working on the problem. I trouble shot it and eventually found that the Quicktime Plugin was the cause, but not having Quicktime affected other websites, so put it back in.
After months of calling for updates on the problem, UBOC finally said that it is Apple's problem, Apple knows that Safari 5 is a security problem and that there is nothing to do about it without Apple fixing Safari 5's security flaw. Not exactly what they said before, but they were clear about it, no mistake.
Now I'm pretty sure that I am just getting the run around from UBOC, but I need to ask if anyone else is having trouble with secure sites and Safari 5? I don't have any problem anywhere else. Does anyone?

After months of calling for updates on the problem, UBOC finally said that it is Apple's problem, Apple knows that Safari 5 is a security problem and that there is nothing to do about it without Apple fixing Safari 5's security flaw. Not exactly what they said before, but they were clear about it, no mistake.
They are talking utter rubbish. Safari 5 is more secure than most browsers. The real problem is that their website does not comply with the latest web standards that Safari (and other browsers) comply with.
    Send their webmaster this:
Because of a simple paradox: Safari adheres to web standards more than any other browser. Many websites do not. Some browsers, Firefox is one, are more tolerant of sloppy standards (a legacy from the unsecure yet commonly used Internet Explorer).
As it says in this document:
    http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/
"Safari complies with standards, but not all browsers do. This article explains how to design, modify and validate your website so that it can be rendered and read properly by all major browsers."
Try this: after you have logged into a problem page, open another tab or window with http://validator.w3.org/ and paste in the URL of that page, which will reveal any noncompliance with standards.
The web masters also need to read this:
"Safari is one of the most standards-compliant browsers ever built. Thus, your best bet for ensuring your pages render properly in Safari — today’s version and beyond — is to follow web standards. For a great overview of web standards, check out Mozilla.org’s article Using Web Standards in Your Web Pages."

  • Quicktime plugin 7.7.1 crashes on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox plus missing in codecs to render on video programs.

    Hi all,
I'm going to assume that this problem is fairly new because there haven't been any solutions to the previous folks who reported a similar situation.
I discovered the problem when I was trying to render a video file to a quicktime .mov format and the quicktime codec was missing. My substitute for that was H264 which was fine but nothing like having quicktime.
Second time this quicktime plugin was having problems was when I goto the apple website to check out trailers and the plugin crashes without even trying to load the video.
I have Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3 the latest version.
    Thanks in advanced all!

    Solved my problem.
I didn't mention that I had Flip4mac to play WMV files and so I removed the Flip4Mac component/plugin completely and we are now back in the quicktime game!

  • QuickTime Plugins have problems on Windows 7 (64-bit)

Uninstalling/reinstalling QuickTime did not fix the problem. Still get a script error and no QuickTime ActiveX plugin installed when accessing a web page with the embedded player on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with Internet Explorer 8 (64-bit).
I did more experiments and found the following: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit comes with two versions of Internet Explorer 8; one is 32-bit and the other is 64-bit. The 32-bit version of Internet Explorer will install the QuickTime ActiveX plugin and load a video; however, the Controller bar at the bottom of the player is just pure black--you can't see the controls. If you click on the right place, it will play the video, but you can't see the control your clicking on. This exact same behavior also occurs in Firefox 32-bit, Chrome 32-bit and Safari 32-bit when running on Window 7 Pro 64-bit: they all exhibit the same problem with their respective QuickTime plugins.
So, there appears to be *two issues*: 1) The QuickTime plugins run impaired in 32-bit browsers running on Window 7 (64-bit); and, 2) The QuickTime ActiveX plugin is incompatible with, and will not install in, the 64-bit Internet Explorer 8 browser running on Windows 7 (64-bit).
If anyone at Apple is paying attention--Please fix this and issue an update to include plugins that work in both 32-bit and 64-bit browsers when running on Windows 7 (64-bit). Thank you.

Apple engineers generally don't read these forums. The best way to get information to them is to use the feedback page:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/feedback
or open a Developer account (the "Online" program is free) and use Apple's Bug Reporter (this is usually the best way for an issue like this but you may not want to open a Developer account just for this purpose).
    Regards.
