Quicktime Plugin problem

I am running Safari v5.1.5 using OS 10.6.8.  If I want to see all the videos posted on my Yahoo web page I have to have QuickTime Plugin.plugin in my Internet Plug-ins folder.  However if I want to be able to print PDFs or save PDFs direct from Safari, I need to quit Safari and remove the QuickTime Plugin resulting in most of the videos do not open.  Why should I be having this problem and is there any remedy so that I don't have to choose.
Thanks,
JDB38

Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
Relaunch Safari and test.

  • QuickTime Plugins have problems on Windows 7 (64-bit)

Uninstalling/reinstalling QuickTime did not fix the problem. Still get a script error and no QuickTime ActiveX plugin installed when accessing a web page with the embedded player on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with Internet Explorer 8 (64-bit).
I did more experiments and found the following: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit comes with two versions of Internet Explorer 8; one is 32-bit and the other is 64-bit. The 32-bit version of Internet Explorer will install the QuickTime ActiveX plugin and load a video; however, the Controller bar at the bottom of the player is just pure black--you can't see the controls. If you click on the right place, it will play the video, but you can't see the control your clicking on. This exact same behavior also occurs in Firefox 32-bit, Chrome 32-bit and Safari 32-bit when running on Window 7 Pro 64-bit: they all exhibit the same problem with their respective QuickTime plugins.
So, there appears to be *two issues*: 1) The QuickTime plugins run impaired in 32-bit browsers running on Window 7 (64-bit); and, 2) The QuickTime ActiveX plugin is incompatible with, and will not install in, the 64-bit Internet Explorer 8 browser running on Windows 7 (64-bit).
If anyone at Apple is paying attention--Please fix this and issue an update to include plugins that work in both 32-bit and 64-bit browsers when running on Windows 7 (64-bit). Thank you.

Apple engineers generally don't read these forums. The best way to get information to them is to use the feedback page:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/feedback
or open a Developer account (the "Online" program is free) and use Apple's Bug Reporter (this is usually the best way for an issue like this but you may not want to open a Developer account just for this purpose).
    Regards.

  • Quicktime Plugin crashes on Firefox 11&12. No problem with IE 8

I keep getting notifications that my quicktime plugin has crashed. I have the latest Quicktime Edition 7.7.1 and Firefox 12 installed. This does not happen with IE 8. OS is Windows XP Pro SP3.
This is the website on which Firefox plugin crashes for me consistently. http://www.janalea.com/. It's my realtors website.

Quicktime plugin is to be honest a piece of crap, slows down Firefox and causes problems like this. As Quicktime is maintained by Apple, you should complain to them.
Personally, I recommend you disable it completely and install [http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ VLC media player], it has a plugin component that you can use instead.

  • Quicktime browser plugin problem.

I'm having a problem with the quicktime browser plugin in both Firefox and IE. Any time I open something using the plugin it plays, however the control bar (play, pause, volume etc) is displayed as a solid black bar with no visible controls. The bar still functions, you can click around until you find the play button for example.. but that gets old pretty fast. I'm currently using XP64 Pro, I've seen this problem mentioned by both Vista and XP64 users, and I've also seen people talking about having fixed the problem, but I have yet to find anything that works for me.
    Any ideas?

I did a Safari Reset of some of the items in Safari such as History, webpage previews, website data, etc. and the Quicktime plugin started working again.

  • How can I make my Quicktime plugin work again?

Before installing the Firefox v3.6, my quicktime plugin was working. After I installed v3.6, the quicktime plugin didn't work. I tried to uninstall v3.6 and installed back v3.5, but the quicktime plugin is still not working. How can I make it work again or how to fix this? Thanks.
Is there a way to undo the installation of Firefox v3.6, meaning to remove any traces of Firefox 3.6 installation, because this problem only came after I installed Firefox 3.6.
I'm able to play streaming videos from websites (e.g. http://www.singingsuccess.tv/videos/?vid=251) BEFORE I installed v3.6. AFTER installing v3.6, the streaming video now shows a blue Q with a question mark in the center. I tried to uninstall that version and install back v3.5, but the problem still exist.
Thank you and hoping for your prompt reply. More power.

You actually have to update the entire QuickTime application to get a new version of the QuickTime plugin that Firefox uses.
I don't know what you mean by a licensed version of QuickTime. Do you have QuickTime Pro (paid version) or the free version?
If you are updating the free version, just download it from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and then install it on top of your current version (no need to uninstall it first).
If you are updating QuickTime Pro, I copied this from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12301362&#12301362

'''Download a free version of Quicktime. Open it and choose Edit. Scroll down to Preferences and choose Register. Once you enter your Registration Key, it will automatically update your version to QuickTime Pro (this is what I just did on my PC).'''

  • Quicktime Plugin Issue in Safari on Mac OSX Lion.

(Strange) Safari - Quicktime - issue on Mac OSX Lion (All Updates done - 20/11/2011)
Strange issue with Safari - Quicktime video playing - on Mac OSX Lion (All updates done till 20th Nov 2011 night)
Problem discovery: Tried to view the Apple iPhone 4S Keynote on Apple Website. Strange that Safari does not display any videos from Apple Website.
Following works OK:- You Tube worked fine.
    - Google Chrome worked fine. (It shows the quick time player loading and then displays the video absolutely fine.)
Conclusion: There is some problem with Safari Quicktime Plug-in.
    Strange Discovery:
    - There are two users on the MAC. Logged in with a general user (Non Admin)
    - When tried to view Apple Videos on Safary ... THEY WORKED FINE !!!
    - The user where they donot work is an ADMIN User ... Strange !!!
    System:
    - Mac-Mini 2010 - 8 GB RAM - with OSX Lion fully software updated until 20th Nov 2011 night.
    - DIVX is installed and is also a paid version - registered with DIVX website.
    - VLC is installed.
    - Perian was installed - after problem discovery - uninstalled it - no use.
Please help with a solution if anyone has faced and solved this problem. Sub question is : If DIVX / anyother plug-in causes problems with QuickTime plugin on Safari, why does it affect only one user on the system and not other users on that system ?
    Notes:
    1) There is a similar looking thread on MacRumors here but concluded that required to start a seperate one with clear problem statement.
    2) Apple Forums
    (a) One thread on topic that hints that some 3IVX plug-in can cause issues with Safari Quicktime Plugin: here
    (b) Another thread from Apple Forum, that hints that DIVX causes problems to Safari Quicktime Plug in, Link is Here

Refer to a thread on Apple Discussions Forum itself, Link is HERE; refer to the posting by "Charles Cole",

Re: Does anyone recommend OS X Lion?
Aug 2, 2011 8:09 PM (in response to Landrix)
Charles writes about DIVX and QuickTime Plugin conflict in Safari:
One thing I've discovered that might help anyone having a Quicktime Plug-in issue. If you have DivX as a codec on your system (usually installed to play .avi files) you'll want to uninstall it so that Sarfari 5.1 will default to the Quicktime Plug-In and not the DivX plug-in. Otherwise, you can't see Quicktime movies in Safari.
Note: this post is about and at the time of OSX Lions launch, i.e. 10.7.0.
Now we have 10.7.2, still cannot believe Apple has not fixed this bug !!!

  • What do I lose by removing "Quicktime Plugin.plugin"?

After upgrading to Leopard (Erase and install, then migrate data from a backup off an external HD), all the flash videos and ads had the Quicktime icon with a question mark on it. After searching through Apple discussions and google, I found a site that suggested removing "Quicktime Plugin.plugin" from the library folder. It seemed like a strange fix but I did it anyway since I already went into Quicktime prefs and unchecked "Enable Flash." I also reinstalled Adobe flash player for Safari- both with no luck.
So what will I be losing by removing this plugin? I'm assuming its a necessary plugin.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Very necessary. In answer to your question, have a look at this thread, especially QuickTimeKirk's post.
Have you checked your System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced>Mime Settings panel? In the Miscellaneous panel only QuickTime HTML ought to be selected. If the other boxes are selected, then you'll have problems with QT in Safari.
Regarding Flash, if you reinstalled it, then make sure you "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

  • Quicktime plugin pt_br doesn't works

    Hello,
Sorry my poor english. I'm trying the best way/form to explain the problem
Quicktime pt_br version has an error in your translation. The plugin MIME types have been translated! (vídeo/quicktime instead of video/quicktime, for example. or imagem/jpg instead of image/jpg) and won't load on any browser except for Opera (Safari, Firefox... NOT).
Follow the link above to view a discussion and fixes posted by a user for the problem:

That works for me on Safari, but Firefox stills broken.

    Hello!
My english is poor too, sorry , but I've got the same problem.
Try to disable your localization on the Safari:
Press right button on Safari icon.
    Choose Properties
Choose Localization (or Languages - i don't remember)
Switch off your system language checkbox (Russian in my case).
    Start the Safari.
My problem was solved, but i'm waiting for Apple resolving of this problem...
    Best wishes, Andrey.

  • Running Quicktime Plugin for IE as Non-Admin User

I'm trying to run quicktime 7.4 in a student computer lab. All logins are "User" group, non admin accounts. I cannot get the quicktime plugin for IE to work. Any embedded quicktime files on web pages just show the dreaded "Quicktime Question Mark". Also, when I look at the Mime Types in the settings, it is blank. Can someone help me with the permissions to get this running correctly? Thanks!

I'm seeing similar behavior as well.
when I direct click a link to a png (from Outlook for example), that opens up IE7, the quicktime plugin loads. If I'm running IE7 as an administrator or the site is in my trusted sites it loads no problem, although I briefly see the quicktime splash screen before the image loads.
If I'm running as a regular user, the page is blank, and I get a script error saying 'object expected'. Refreshing the page does nothing. However, a hard return in the address bar will display the image.
The only way to fix this was to uncheck png as a mime type handled by the quicktime browser plugin. I shouldn't have to run as administrator to get the plugin to handle directly linked pngs.

  • How do I stop Quicktime plugin from opening all WAV files?

I have iTunes on my Windows 7 Ultimate computer to support my iPhone.  iTunes installs QuickTime, QuickTime installs the QuickTime browser plugin, and the QuickTime browser plugin DOES NOT RESPECT THE WINDOWS FILE EXTENSION ASSOCIATIONS.  This causes problems because I DO NOT want QuickTime to open WAV and MP3 files as I have other applications for those file types.  So my question is...
How do I tell the QuickTime browser plugin to open file types a, b, and c, but NOT open file types d, e, and f?  I can't find the file type association dialog for the QuickTime plugin.

    Hi turningtest2,
Actually it is linked content - pages that have links to play sound samples rather than having players built into the page, "How To" videos, etc.
Firefox and Chrome seem to have workarounds, and in playing around with Firefox tonight it looks like using Firefox (or Chrome) will solve a lot of the issues here at home, but at the office I'm limited to IE 9, 64 bit when using a Windows 7 box.  Odd as it may seem, I have IE 8, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera on my office XP Pro box.  So, I'm having to "reverse migrate" as I move from a Windows XP Pro box to a Windows 7 box at the office, and switch from using Firefox and Chrome (XP Pro) to using IE 9 (Win 7).  Thus, the problems with the QuickTime plugin in 64 bit IE 9 are a real annoyance.
Hmmm, so Quicktime is no longer needed for iTunes.  That's interesting.  I have iTunes at both home and office and maybe uninstalling Quicktime at the office will solve some of the problems ... except for playing ".mov" files...
I'm considering some registry hacks for the office Windows 7 Ultimate box, but I'll have to get the sysadmin to make any registry changes.
Have you tried any of the registry fixes?

  • Quicktime Plugin crashes and Window size not correct when running a course from an LMS (Coursemill)

I am trying to run a course from an LMS (Coursemill) and a couple issues are occurring.
First, the quicktime plugin crashes, therefore the mp3 sound of the course does not play. When I reload the page, I get an "Unable to find API adapter" error message and the page won't load.
Also, the predetermined window size does not work properly and I end up with vertical and horizontal scroll bars which I do not want.
These issues are of high importance and need a solution ASAP. Please contact me.

If you haven't already visited the using QuickTime Plugin with Firefox KB article, I would recommend you first start there. If your problem still persists & no solution is found after referencing it just reply back to this response & we will go another route.

  • Ever since I installed Firefox 4, my QuickTime plugin crashes when I view a certain web site.

This never happened with the previous versions of Firefox. The latest version of the QuickTime plugin is installed.
Since posting this, I've updated to Firefox 5. The same problem continues with the newest version.

I was able to stop the crashing by give the embed tag a non-zero height.
Originally I had a zero height and width on the embed sound tag on my pages. That worked fine until FF4, after which the Quicktime plugin crashed. Just updated my pages to have zero width and one height. The embed still does not show, but it no longer crashes the Quicktime plugin.
Perhaps some smart FF developer would know why this work around fixes the crash.

  • Low Volume In QuickTime Plugin

    I'm having an unusual problem.
I just purchased a new PC with Windows Vista Business 64. I just installed QuickTime 7.6 along with the QuickTime plugin for Firefox and Internet Explorer. The problem is the volume of the plugin. In Firefox it is very low and barely audible, even though the Windows volume is at maximum. In Internet Explorer, the volume is loud, as I would expect with the maximum setting.
Is there a separate volume setting for the plugin for each browser?
Note: The volume settings in the full-blown QuickTime Player do not seem to affect the plugin. When I play the same audio file URL via the Player, it sounds correct. In Firefox though, it's very soft.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    /bump
I'm having the same problem, only i'm the video is for my site. The volume is fine on desktop. On my website, it's fine for me. For others it's barely audible. I have the volume="100" tag specified just in case.
    ideas?
