Quicktime plugin won't play videos in firefox

Every time I go to a page the has a quicktime video on it, I can't get the video to play. It loads up with the quicktime logo and a question mark superimposed on top. I have quicktime installed and have gone into the settings, telling it to play god and everything. Still, I can't get the videos to play.

Your "direct link" code doesn't give any instructions to any browser plug-in. Without instructions each different page visitor will get different behavior. Some visitors settings would download the file and others would play the file using a different browser plug-in (Real Player or WMP for example).

I've got a webpage with <a href="audiofile.mp3" target="a_frame">link text</a>. This page is part of a website that I'm webmaster on.
Clicking on the link always plays the audio in Safari but is inconsistent in Firefox in my iMac (OSX 10.6.8). Sometimes the file plays but mostly the click gets ignored. I'm using Firefox 5.0.1 and the Quicktime plugin is 7.6.6.
I've tried this page on PC based browsers. Chrome works every time. IE mostly works but sometimes the audio plays but the player controls aren't displayed. Firefox is inconsistent.
I've tried disabling other plugins. Any ideas?

QuickTime Pro won't play video clip

I downloaded a video that plays fine in windows media player, but will not play in QuickTime Pro 7.1.3. It only plays a black screen with no sound.

Quicktime won't play in Mozilla Firefox

Hi,
I recently installed a newer version of Quicktime, 7 I think, and now Quicktime items won't play in my Firefox. They did before I installed the new version, and things load just fine in Internet Explorer, but I really would like it to also work in Firefox.
I've fiddled with different settings in the Quicktime and my Internet Options, but nothing seems to work. I am by no means good at that sort of thing, so I hope I didn't mess anything up further.
Any ideas how to get it to work again?

The settings on firefox were fine. It turns out that I had to change my code from object top embed. That worked and got the video to play in firefox. But ironically now the sound only sometimes works in firefox. If it is not one problem it is another. lol If you have any insight you can share it would be greatly appreciated.

You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. I just downloaded quicktime, and then restarted my computer. But it still won't play videos online. I'm not sure if it is like this for all sites, but i have one site in particular that won't play videos. Any ideas? I have Windows 7 by the way.

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.

Despite following both Firefox and Flash directions, Firefox won't play videos from YouTube, Hulu, etc. They either never load or they load and freeze within seconds. Before I got the latest versions of Firefox and Flash, I did not have this problem. So there must be a problem in one or both of them. You said that QuickTime movies won't play "inside Firefox". Do they play inside Safari or when you directly access a QuickTime Movie file that's been saved on your Mac ?
See the Firefox Support article, [[Use the QuickTime plugin to play audio and video]]. It has some test links and explains how to enable the QuickTime plugin in the Add-ons Manager, in case it's been disabled in Firefox.
Like you say, QuickTime is built into the operating system on Mac OS so if you can't enable the browser plugin in Firefox or if it's missing, your best bet would be a Mac forum such as https://discussions.apple.com/

Here's some more info.
I tried installing the latest iTunes to my housemate's PC, logging into iTMS with my account, authorizing his machine to play my content, restoring my iPod to the factory settings, downloading the videos and copying them to my iPod.
It worked fine, and I can play my videos.
I have done the exact SAME thing on my own home PC twice, after completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and the Apple Software Updater. But I still can't get any videos downloaded on my home PC to play on my iPods.
Any thoughts?

When I "Preview In Browser" through Edge it plays (I have created a shape and used the "play video full screen" snippet) in full screen mode just fine. When I "Preview Site In Browser" through Muse and click on the shape to PLAY VIDEO FULL SCREEN, it does nothing. I am new to both programs and can't figure out why it will work out of the preview window in Edge and won't work when I publish to Muse. Does anybody have an answer or a work-around for me?

Flash still won't play files in Firefox 4, even with latest version 10

Despite what a Firefox support article states, Adobe Flash will not play videos in Firefox 4, even after Flash has been upgraded to the most recent version of Flash 10 (10.3.181.14). That is because the problem is not with Flash, it is in fact a problem with Firefox 4 (what a surprise!). After trying all the useless suggestions here, I finally just went back to Firefox 3.16. Flash had always worked for me prior to switching to Firefox 4. Sure enough, no sooner did I go back to 3.16, Flash immediately began playing videos properly again. Same latest version of Flash, old version of Firefox equal proper video operation. Any version of Flash, Firefox 4 equals no videos play.

I've upgraded from flash 10.0.45 to 11.2.202.235, using Synaptic.
Then, when i saw it didn't work, i've returned to 10.0.45 and upgraded it to 11.2.202.233, no success.

Quicktime Player won't play avi files all of a sudden

All of a sudden Quicktime Player won't play my avi files. They worked previously. I could play them with Quicktime 7 with or without Perian. I'm running 10.6.4.
They'll run fine on my MacBook and I don't have Perian installed on it.
Any ideas?

I just uninstalled Flip4Mac and everything is working as it's supposed to. Very strange. Perhaps a conflict with Perian? But then again, QT didn't play the avi files with Perian installed. So, I guess the conflict is with Flip4Mac and something else.
