Quicktime preferences not showing

Hi,
I recently installed windows 7 64 bit (not an option under operating system. Vista was closest). When I go to Quicktime player, then click EDIT for Preferences then finally click Quicktime Preferences. Nothing shows. Is there a registry edit or anything else I can do to have quicktime preferences show? I've already uninstalled and re-installed.
Thanks for any help
UPDATE: Comodo firewall was the culprit even though I gave Quicktime full permission. Hope this helps someone also.

I am following the instructions per Apple Site on navigating the installation of QuickTime Pro Player Pro.  However, it is not showing uo in the SysPref and cannot register.
Follow the updated instructions for Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion operating systems. Registration of QT 7 Pro using the System Preferences window has not been used on a Mac OS X OS since Leopard.
I tried registering it via entering the license via the program but it did not work either. Screen says that it is pro but does not go a way after entering reg license. When I try to use the Pro features they are not available.
What more do you want than to have the screen confirm that the "Pro" features have been activated. If it is the registration window you want to go away (close), then simply press the red circle in the upper right-hand corner to close the window. If you have made any changes to the system's QT codec component configuration or modified "legacy" codec use, also be sure to quit and re-open the application to rebuild the available codecs list. If you still don't have access to the "Pro" features, then apply normal system troubleshooting techniques.
Am I missing something?
I don't know. It is difficult to tell since you haven't really indicated what you did do. However, since you indicated the registration window confirmed your name and code entries were accepted, I can only assume that you either failed to close the registration window, you failed to load an edit compatible file to the app (i.e., the editing features are context adaptive so you must open a file before they become available), or you loaded a non-edit compatible file for editing that is preventing the features you are expecting to be available.

  • Quicktime is not showing up in my system preferences?

I'm having a problem of seeing the question mark where a movie should be.  According to this site http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/browser/bluequestionmark.html I'm to go to System Preferences and then select Quicktime advanced tab. The problem is that Quicktime is now showing up in my System Preferences but is in m application folder.  How do I get Quicktime into my System Preferences?
    I'm using OSX 10.6.8

There is no QuickTime System Preference pane in Snow Leopard or Lion.
Give us a URL so we can examine the page you're having trouble opening.

  • Quicktime embed not showing controls

I have several embedded quicktime movies on my website, for some reason they do not show the controls even though the embed and object tags specifically say to controller=true.
Is this a factor of the file itself, what is the fix?

Adding a controller requires you add 16 pixels to the actually file height.
e.g. a 320X240 QuickTime file would use 320X256 in the html page code.

  • Quicktime Movies Not showing as Events

I recently upgraded from a PowerBook G4 running iMovie '06 to a PowerBook Pro running iMovie '11.  When I used to finish a project in '06 I converted it to Quicktime with no compression and stored it on an external hard drive, since I had only 80 gigs on my internal drive. I then trashed the original project, figuring I could always restore it by dragging in the QT movie.  When I received my new MBP I put all movies from the external on the internal, since I had plenty of space.  Unfortunately the QT Movies do not show up as events in iMovie '11. What gives?
Also some of the listings in the events have a "!" over them.  What does that mean?

If you are loading your Shockwave movie into a browser from your local HDD (instead of having the page served from the web) then you need to have a folder named "dswmedia" somewhere in the path for external files to load. Check the help docs.

  • ICal Preferences not showing

In web based iCal in iCloud, I select preferences under the settings "gear" icon, nothing happens, ie. no preference pane shows.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

Update: In my case it was Ghostery that caused the preference pane to not show up. Disabling the Ghostery blocking solved the problem.
Ghostery is a neat program that blocks all junk javascripts from executing. Makes surfing a real pleasure and speeds it up no end. Not affiliated with Ghostery in any way, just a satisfied user of it.

  • Quicktime does not show USB 2861 device as a camera

This device is the hardware known as Video 2 Go from Ionaudio. Now the documentation states that (for Snow Leopard) one should:
    first, install their bundled software (VideoGlide from Echofx) and register it;
    secondly, set QT (via Get info selection) to run in 32bit mode;
before trying to use the device with QT or iMovie as an input device.
Now I don't run 10.6.x - I have 10.7.5 installed and some person else has 10.8.x installed and in both cases we find that QT does not show the device as a "composite" camera (or Video input device) when trying to do a "New Movie Recording". It is though recognised as an audio input device (in QT) and it does show up in the USB tab of the System Info report when connected.
Is there any suggestions that I should tweak?

Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

  • System Preferences not showing all pictures in Desktop & Screensaver

This problem only happened recently, whenever i go into system pref to change my desktop i do not see all the preview pics from my picture folder. Even though i do not see them in the system pref window i can still click on them and it will still set them as my desktop. Would having alot of high res pictures make them not show in system pref?
    Ibook g4 12''   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

it is possible that with a large volume of large res pix in that folder that the little "preview icons" take some time to generate. Also, i have noticed that not all my graphic files will generate a "preview" even if the app in question can utilize and read the file.

  • InDesign preferences not showing up

I've tried the two methods suggested in an earlier post.  neither worked.  When I looked at the hidden files, only found one of the two files.  I found the InDesign Defaults, changed the name and restarted ID only to have an error message next to paragraph preferences.   Any other suggestions to get this to work??
These are normally hidden files, so you will need to set your system to show them. They will be found in various places depending on the OS, and the version of InDesign. (Edit: For Mac users running OSX 10.7 or newer, you can learn how to show hidden files here: Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion)
    InDesign Defaults:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<language>\  (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/(Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
    InDesign SavedData:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\Caches\ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\Caches\  (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
In some earlier versions of ID, InDesign SavedData may also be found in the first directory.

The way to keep things together is to respond to a post instead of starting a new topic, which you have done correctly, here. Thanks.
I think I asked you in one of the other threads to post a screen shot of the empty panel. You do that by using the camera icon on the web page to embed your image like this:

  • System preferences not showing

I recently had to re-install my entire system from original DVDs, then used Time Machine to re-capture all my data. After Updating the software, I had several programs not operating. I did a Custom Install which solved everything except System Preferences and Preview. They are dead Icons with a "?" on my Dock and do not appear in the Applications Folder.
Does anyone have a clue how to solve this?

    Hello Al,
Just a thought.   There is a Combo update for 10.6.8 which you can download and apply over the top of any other updates.   Still takes a bit of time but it is useful to know this often corrects minor glitches in the system.   If the problem comes up again, try it.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Usually you should follow up with software updates just in case there are security or iTunes updates.

  • Problems with some preferences not showing

I seem to have problem with Mac OS X Leopard system prefences, some settings like "Sound" and "Displays" don´t show anything, only blank page. I installed Leopard first without any language packs and only after that I installed the desired language so I´m guessing this is the root of the problem? I tried reinstalling the language pack but it did not change the situation.
Is there any hacks to make those work? This is minor issue but still annoying. The machine is iMac G5 so PowerPC version of Leopard.

You surely had to have one language pack present in order to install.  What is the desired language you added later?

  • Quicktime does not show controls in Safari

Is it a Safari issue or QuickTime? Any1 had the same problem?
    Thks,
    Biga

The controller in your example doesn't use the standard QuickTime controller and, instead, uses special javascript code to load its own controller.
The examples work just fine for me:

  • Not showing video while loading

My quicktime is not showing the video on quicktime movies, primarily on the apple website and i'm perplexed as to why. It will play the audio while it is loading and once it has loading i can refresh and it will play the audio and video... any ideas on how to fix this very annoying problem?

I am having the same problem. If someone could provide a solution that would be great. I reset safari, cleared out cache, made sure I had a newest updates.

  • Mail preferences not sticking

I access iCloud email via the web when I'm at work (Win XP SP3 + latest release of Chrome).  Recently (as in over the past couple weeks, give or take) my preferences (not showing images in HTML email, default email address for sending, show BCC, etc.) are not sticking permanently.  Sometimes I make/save the changes and they stay for days; other times (like this morning) they don't even stay set for an hour.  My rules are always there, but the other preferences need to be reset periodically -- and seemingly randomly -- to their default values.
I have deleted all cookies, cleared the cache, etc.  I have not tried another browser because (1) it could be days between "resets" and I don't want to have to use another browser for that long just for troubleshooting and (2) I need this to work in Chrome, so whether it works in another browser is more or less moot.  No matter what troubleshooting steps I've taken, the problem recurs unpredictably.  It is very frustrating because I have to keep a constant eye on the "From" address when replying or sending new messages to mailing lists I'm on (which reject messages from the address that iCloud defaults to), plus with the option defaulting to "On" to show images in HTML email, I'm opening myself up to even more spam than usual.
    So two questions:
Is anyone else having this same issue?
Why are these preferences apparently stored in cookies rather than persisting on Apple's server?  Or if they ARE on Apple's server, why do I have to keep changing them back periodically?
    Thanks,
    Brent

As follow-up, just since I posted this message and without reloading the iCloud tab, restarting the browser, or anything like that, the preferences have once again reverted themselves less than an hour after I changed them.

  • MacBook Pro 6,2 Existing scanners do not show up in System Preferences

I have a MacBook Pro 6,2 and I just installed OS X Yosemite. While attached to my home network (wired), neither of my scanners show up when I try to add them in System Preferences. Also, they do not show up in the Hardware list in a System Information report. One is an Epson V600 and the other is an HP ScanJet 5590. Both of them work just fine on my MacPro 4,1 running OS X 10.8.5, although, oddly, the HP doesn't seem to have a scanner queue even though it works just as it should (scanning with Acrobat Pro).
Why are these devices absent from the "add printer or scanner" list and how do I force my MacBook Pro to see them?

    Welcome to the forum.
How did you name your comps and your AE project(s)?  If you used numbers at the beginning or the end, that may be interfering with AE's Increment and Save feature.  Try renaming your comps and projects without using numbers.
