Quicktime preview in mavericks

Is there any way of getting back QT previews in Mavericks, with out shelling out £199 on Final Cut X? Seams mad Apple have 'broken' their own format and forced you to purchase a £199 program to get the functionality back. Just paid £2700 for a mac book pro with less functionality!
Very frustrating, seeing its their own format!

I have a solution!!! I cant beleve how easy it was everyone on the forum with this problem will love how simple it its!
Just find someone with Mountain Lion and copy that version of "Movie.qlgenerator"
System/library/Quicklook/Movie.qlgenerator
....paste into your Mavericks System/library/Quicklook/ folder.
Reset your machine, all your old legacy thumbnails of quicktime return!!!! Still no ability to play but solves half the frustration. Hopefully Apple wil make a update if enough of us complain.
Why Apple developers thought it was a good idea to give us all a headache on dropping legacy QT previews I will never know!
(Just be on the safe side make sure you copy and paste the Mavericks "Movie.qlgenerator" to your desk top incase people have a diferent version and it brakes something)

  • Screen (control-zoom) and Quicktime, Preview/TextEdit recents

The zoom screen (ctrl-scroll) is not enabled by default. The only way to enable it is to go to System Preferences/Universal Access/Seeing and then play with the Zoom on/off and options/use scroll wheel ...      Then you need to reboot. The problem is, unless choosing the settings to enable the feature is the VERY LAST thing you do before restarting, it doesn't do it anymore. The settings are still as I left them, but the zoom doesn't work unless I reset them  and reboot again.
There really needs to be a "Close All" option in Quicktime, Preview and TextEdit. It's really annoying to open a pic and have everything I ever opened pop up as well.

  • Cannot disable automatic attachment preview in Mavericks Mail?

    Hello All,
I noticed after upgrading to Mavericks that Apple Mail started automatically previewing attachments again... I had disabled this in previous versions of OS X.  I tried to disable this again in the terminal using:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
But after re-starting Mail, attachments are being automatically previewed again.
I consider this a security issue so I would like to disable automatic attachment previewing as soon as possible.  Has anyone been able to do this with the Mail included with Mavericks yet?

Just a basic examplo:  getting an email with an open image, that the 2 people around me can immediately see, can pose a serious security for anything I'm doing with my Mac!
So, you see, SECURITY is much more than a mere technical problem!
    Cheers
That's a privacy problem, not a security problem.
If you are receiving images in emails that the others arround you are not qualified to see, your office setup is the security problem, not Mail.
Use a different email client that gives you the option. I have no idea what those are, though.

  • Photoshop CS4 - Saving file displays a Quicktime Preview Error

    Hi,
I recently transferred my system from an iMac to a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.6.3). Everything seems to work except every time I now go to save a file in Photoshop (CS4) it displays a message: "Could not build a preview because of a problem with Quicktime"
I've searched forums, un-installed and re-installed Photoshop and still no fix. Even setting save Preview to 'never' in Photoshop Preferences does not help. Has anyone seen this? Is there a preferences or permission that I need to fix or trash in Quicktime?

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply. I also tried reinstalling Quicktime X from the install disk (using the Pacifist application), still did not fix. I did however find that setting the Save preview preferences then closing and re-starting Photoshop does sort of fix the problem. With the Macintosh preview disabled the message does not appear so yes I would say it's an OS problem.
Would still be nice to know if there is an actual fix, as yet I haven't seen the error in any other application.
Update: I also found 'copy to clipboard' and 'paste into PS' also did not work! So after a day of erasing the MacPro hard drive and re-installing the OS and all applications from scratch everything seems to work correctly. Seems Apple's migration from one computer to another really doesn't work that well.

  • After Effects CC not finding Quicktime on OSX Mavericks

The machine I am using at work recently got upgraded. It is now rocking a SSD drive and has Mavericks installed. I also just signed up for CC and downloaded After effects (12.2.1).
When I try and launch AE I get a very long pause while "Initializing MediaCore" Then I get an error screen" "QuickTime" is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly."
I searched on the Adobe Forums and saw a tip about disabling firewalls and removing third party QT components. On the Mac the security preference pane has a "Firewall" tab, but clicking that shows nothing. I really don't think there is a firewall on the machine.
I did have the Aja, Avid, and DVCpro codecs on my startup drive (Library/QuickTime). I removed these. (I actually removed all but the AppleIntermediateCodec.component.) I restarted and launched AE, only to be met with the same error. Meanwhile on this same machine I can launch AE6 no problem. (However ALL of my QT outputs are available... this seems strange. When I added the new drive and Mavericks, I cloned all my settings over from another startup disk. Could Quicktime still be looking on that drive?)
I looked into console and I picked the area that seems to be reporting a crash. I posted that below.
Any tips on what I should do next would be appreciated. After Effects is pretty useless without the ability to read or write video.

Had the same problem – and finally could solve it ... Here's my solution that worked.
    System: iMac OS X 10.9.4 | 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 | 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
QuickTime 7.6.6 and QuickTime X installed
    After Effects CC Version 2014.0.2
After launching AE it took a long time "initializing MediaCore". Then the warning appeared "QuickTime is not installed on this system".
According to the solution above I first tried to delete just the newest AE preferences folder – but this didn't work.
Next I @deleted all AE preferences folders. But didn't work as well.
Now I deleted all preferences folders concerning Adobe media apps (AE, Premiere, Audition) – and hey: this worked for me! AE started very quick. The warning didn't appear. And AE works as fast and good as ever.
So the point is: Instead of deleting the entire Adobe preferences folder (with all the risks for the other apps) it's better to delete the folders one by one until the problems is solved. that heled
Thanks to all here for their advices.

  • Renaming a file in Preview for Mavericks

    Bug 2:
Also the only way to get it to work is this new "Tags" drop down with the arrow, but there A) no key command to get there (terrible UI) and B) you can't save it once you are in.

This sounds like a bug from the install. I use Mavericks and do not have this problem. I suggest reinstalling: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13871

  • How to find all bookmarked PDF documents in Preview in Mavericks?

    Hi there,
the problem is that before upgrading to Mavericks I could view all my bookmarked PDF documents just via menu bar in Preview, but now in Mavericks I have no idea how to manage this bookmarked documents - I can see bookmarks only after opening these PDF files which have been bookmarked. Just imagine that you have thousands of documents of which only a couple have been bookmarked for later reading - as I can see the only way to find these documents in Maverick is to open documents one by one and see whether they have bookmarks or not... Is there any way to bypass this painful procedure?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Alex

I tried this and it works as you describe, but not all Hypercard documents appear to have the same content type, as described by Terminal.
The first Hypercard stack I tried came up with the content type:
    dyn.ah62d4rv4ge8xe6u
The search only found the one result with this type (the same stack).
Then I tried using the Hypercard "Home" stack (a pretty central stack to Hypercard's functioning), and it had a content type:
    dyn.ah62d4rv4gk8zgzcbmq
(note the type is longer with a different ending; only the first 14 characters are identical to the first stack).
This search found 317 items, which is likely most of my Hypercard documents, so this is some progress.
Unfortunately I know that since the first stack I tried had a different content type, there may be other Hypercard stacks on my hard drive with yet a different content type, not caught by these searches.
I then tried a wildcard, thinking that if only the first 14 characters of the content type are identical, I focus my search on those characters only, using asterisk as a wildcard at the end. So I searched for:

The result was 526 hits, including many documents that are not Hypercard. So this doesn't help.
It appears that the content type is not exactly specific to a the File Type or Creator Code, so while I can find many of a particular document, this method cannot find all of one type of document.
I tried searching using raw query by the Terminal-reported File Type Code (kMDItemFSTypeCode= "STAK"), but this revealed no items.
Perhaps I should suggest this to Apple as a bug fix for Leopard, to restore the ability to search by Type Code or Creator Code as a choice in the OS Find service? I know these codes are no longer relied on as much as they used to be, since now the OS uses extension as much as anything else, but there is lots of older software that still run in Leopard that use Type and Creator codes. And Apple still recommends registering the creator code of any new software.
    Thank you!

  • Uninstalling Quicktime Preview for Windows

Hi. I bought an iPod some days ago and was gonna install iTunes. As the installation proceeded right at the end this shows up:
"This installer cannot upgrade the Preview of Quicktime 7 for Windows. You must first remove it." or something like that as I am Swedish.
I have uninstalled everything I could that had something with Quicktime to do, I have cleaned the registry and also searched for 'Quicktime' and removed everything there.
Though still I cannot install either iTunes or QuickTime.
    Appreciate answers.

QuickTime for windows error -2048 has been consistant for many moons. With not opening file formats that are not supported. Unlikely caused by a battery or camera...

  • Preview on Mavericks - Rectangle Tool Background on PDF broken?

While in preview I try to create a rectangle with a transparent background, but the transparancy doesn't seem to have any effect.
This seems to only be an issue when I edit PDF's. It works fine in PNG.
    Above 50% it's always a solid color.
    Below 50% it disappears.
Anyone know why this is happening or is this a bug in preview?

It seems to do the same thing on mine and I am running OS X Mavericks. I haven't tried in an earlier version though so I don't know whether it's specific to OS X Mavericks or not.

  • Photo preview in Mavericks complicated

    Hello,
(upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mavericks directly)
In Snow Leopard preview I could open a photo, normal JPEG, edit it, crop it, resize it, improve colours etc. for business use, save it with a different name, then send this modified copy by email. This was very quick.
Now it's all complicated and slower to do.
There is no "save as" so when you modify the picture you replace the original?
What is the button to use when you want to save this edited picture with a different name?
The buttons on top are not clearly visible and cropping is not that easy as before.
    Thanks

    Hello Jeanjacq,
When using the File > Save option you will overwrite the origional... You can save as... the image using File > Export ...
    My question to Apple/Developers...
Why is the cropping tool not showing the cropped image after cropping?
I mean, when i make a selection on an image and press the crop button... the image is cropped, but i still see the uncropped version on the screen. This is very irritating. Will this be solved in an update or is this a setting?

  • Unable to join Pdf using Preview in Mavericks

The method of merging PDF documents using Preview is not working in Mavericks. When one PDF document is dragged into the sidebar of another it looks like all is well and I can choose "Save As" and give the merged document a new name, but after I close it and re-open the document, all that is there is the last page of the merged document. Nothing else. I've tried several times with different documents, but with same result. I am running OS X 10.9.1 and Preview 7.0(826) on a brand new iMac of 21 inch (Late 2012).

Yes, yes now it is working for me as well!! What actually I was doing was that I was placing the second file just below the "gray line" at the end of the first document. Instead however, It should have been "in between" the end of the first document and the gray line at the end. For this I am thankful to the discusion of VikingOSX response to Cosman dated Jan 2, 2014 4:59 PM VikingOSX. Thnx.

  • Quicktime Pro in Maverick

I need to compress a video! What happened to Quicktime Pro?

You will need to download the QT 7.6.6 Player from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
You will then need to find your original name (the one that you had for "Registered to") and the registration code that goes with that name, you will then enter these to upgrade to QT Pro from the regular player.

I successfully added QT Pro to my clean install on a new computer with Mavericks. Seems to work fine for me.

  • Bookmarks issue with Preview after Mavericks upgrade.

    Hi,
after upgrading to Mavericks my bookmarks in Preview are not named as before. Now they appear as a sequence of non-sense letters and numbers.
Is there anyway to see all my hundreds of bookmarks as I named in the last couple of years?
I am a scientist and I bookmarked something like 500 scientific papers. Please do not tell me that I have to re-do all the work.
    Pretty upset...

Over a year later and Apple's still left us bookmarkers out in the cold.

  • Finder Cover Flow image preview size is small, cannot be adjusted and showing empty blank previews in Mavericks

When using Cover Flow the image preview in the main window (not the thumbnail list at the bottom) images appear but only use about 1/2 of the window space available.  It is also showing black/blank preview images as I scroll through the files even though they are cached.
I enlarge the Finder to fill my 27 inch display, slide the size adjustment handle (three lines under the file name preview) all the way down as far as I can.  The preview only enlarges to a certain point leaving the upper half of the window unused.  I wish to enlarge the cover flow preview images to use this window space even if it affects the overlapping or number of cover flow images avaialble in the window.    I am assuming this is becasue of the nature of cover flow showing the two previous and two following images to the left and right of the previewed image.  As I scroll left and right occsionally one of the upcoming images will appear as and empty preview as well.  It's all goofed up.
    Hoping for any suggestions.
I have seen articles about using terminal to adjust "flow height" but never anything substainial that seemend like an informed solution.

I also would like to know if there is an answer to this.  My landscape photos always display with a third of the cover flow window as blank empty space (matching your screenshot).  This seems like such a waste.  Is there any way to change the "padding" between the top of the finder bar and the cover flow preview?

  • Quicktime problem in mavericks?

So I just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks. I used to be able to trim videos in QT (not the QT 7 in Utilities) and save them. But now when I try to do it, it gives me the message, "The operation could not be completed" Can someone please help? However, when I try to trim a MP4 file, it saves. I'm so frustrated.
Is there any way to downgrade to the QT that was default with Snow Leopard?

Is there any way to downgrade to the QT that was default with Snow Leopard?
Yes. Simply downgrade the Mac OS X version to the one compatible with the QT Player version you wish to use. For example:
    Mac OS X v10.6 w/QT X v10.0
    Mac OS X v10.7 w/QT X v10.1
    Mac OS X v10.8 w/QT X v10.2
    Mac OS X v10.9 w/QT X v10.3
