Quicktime Pro 1080p codec for apple tv?

Anyone know if there's a Quicktime Pro codec yet that will take original 1080p content (like home movies shot on a 1080p camera) and encode it to M4V for Apple TV at 1080p?  I think the "Export to Apple TV" in QTP-7 still encodes to 1280x720 doesn't it?
Thanks!!

Although QTKirk has provided the most generic answer that should provide useable file, here are some additional details:
I think the "Export to Apple TV" in QTP-7 still encodes to 1280x720 doesn't it?
Unfortunately, this is true. The current TV preset creates files targeted for use on multiple TV models which limits the maximum resolution available.

Unfortunately, the only QT 7 Pro option that allowed the creation of a 1080 H.264/AAC M4V file was the old "Movie to H.264" option which was replaced by the current mobile device specific presets. You can, of cource create a 1080 H.264/AAC MOV file using the "Movie to QuickTime Movie" method described by QTKirk or create a 1080 H.264/AAC MP4 file using the "Movie to MPEG-4" option and then either change the file extension manually (works with most apps that don't really check the file container type) or actually remux the data to a real M4V file container.
On the other hand, there are other, non-QT 7 Pro options available. I personally prefer the free HandBrake option here. It has separate presets for TV (720p24, 540p30), TV2 (720p30), and TV3 (1080p30) options available if you prefer that route or allows advanced customization to create your own preferred preset to directly create an anamorphic or non-anamorphic 1080p H.264/AAC M4V file. What you shpould actually be asking yourself here is not ifthe there is a work flow that can make your 1080 content but what are the actual goals of the work flow you want to use. For instance, are you saying "I want to create the best, highest quality 1080p non-anamorphic file I can and don't care how large the file is or how many hours it takes to make the conversion?" or are you saying "I will accept a high quality, anamorphic file that is playback efficient in terms of file space and streaming requirements and requires only a moderate investment in time for the conversion?" or something in-between?

  • Mountain Lion Spotlight no longer indexes "codecs" for Apple Lossless files?

Hi, I was recently trying to find some Apple Lossless files stored on my hard drive, and I tried searching using Spotlight's "codec" option (by typing "lossless" into the search field in the Finder). However, nothing came up. Upon further investigation (by looking at the info windows for various Apple Lossless files), it appears as though Mountain Lion no longer indexes the "codec" for Apple Lossless files, and therefore doesn't let you search by it. (Although I haven't tried this recently on at least Lion or Snow Leopard systems, I can verify that on OS X Leopard, which I still have running on an old machine, both the description "Apple Lossless" next to the codec field in the Info window came up, and it would also let you search by it.)
I was just wondering if anyone else might have experienced this on their Mountain Lion systems? Thanks!

I regret to inform this still has not been solved, though deleting the externalrecords helps purge those remnants away.

  • Quicktime Pro 7.7 for Windows 7 mp4 data cap

I work for the video department of a magazine publishing company. At work, we use Macs and Quicktime Pro 7.7. We use Quicktime to export our files from .movs to .mp4s using the H.264 video format.
Unfortunately at home, I am stuck with a PC and Windows 7 (purchased before I converted). I bought Quicktime Pro 7.7 for Windows yesterday for converting my files to .mp4s. Unfortunately, I found that the Windows 7 version caps the data rate at 32768kb/sec.
As seen elsewhere online, some clients ask for a data rate of 35000 or even higher, and Quicktime Pro accomodates this on Macs. Is there any way to get around this cap with Quicktime Pro for Windows?
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them

Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them.  What can I do?

Try the advice here. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
You have to delete the "SC Info" folder from /Users/Shared. You will have to use Terminal to enable you to see this folder first. Make sure iTunes is not running when you delete the "SC Info" folder
There is an article from Apple on this here. The "SC Info" folder contains iTunes authorization information.
I did this two weeks ago and iTunes accepted by login. I haven't been asked for my AppleID or password since.

  • Exporting .mov to H264 in Quicktime Pro not working for iPad!

Good morning All, Thanks for your help. When I take video's with my digital camera it records in Quicktime, however I have always had to export the videos with QuicktimePro in the H264 codec for them to transfer to my iPhone. What is happening with the iPad, is that when I export them to that or mp4 it says this movie could not be played on the iPad. The only work around I have found is to hit the advance tab in iTunes and convert it, then drag them out and back into iPhoto (because I want the videos with the event in Photos). Is anyone else having this issue? Any Suggestions? Thanks!!!

Who has similar problems. Who has workarounds.
    Interesting... but wierder and wierder!
Not sure it is much of a workaround, but I just loaded my H.264/AAC M4V Harry Potter 7 file into QT 7 Pro and deleted chapers 2 through 30. While I agree that I cannot currently save the edited data as a standalone file, I could save it as a reference file that is non-compatible with QL under Mavericks. However, if I then open the reference file in QT 7 Pro, I could then use the "Movie to MPEG-4" option to "Pass through" both the audio and the video to create an MP4 file that will open in both QT X v10.3 and QT 7 and is QL compatible.
As to your subler workflow, while the MP4 file I created with subler did not open in QT 7, it did open in QT X v10.3 and the H.264 video track was QL compatible. I suspect the reason the MP4 file won't open in QT 7 and why QL won't play the Photo-JPEG track is that QT 7 and QL consider the secondary video track that is created by Subler to be "out of spec" for the MP4 file container. On the other hand, if I place the H.264/AAC data in an M4V file container, then it opens in both QT 7 and QT X v10.3 and both the H.264 and the Photo-JPEG tracks are QL compatible.
Nice catch on your part as I am still reviewing the QT X v10.3 forced conversions and had not even started looking as Subler. Also do most of my editing before conversion to H.264/AAC/AC3/Chapter output to M4V so it did not dawn on me to try and edit my M4V files. Thanks to your comments have learned that Subler does not like my AC3 DD5.1 audio track (now seems to cause an infinite loop in Subler due to Mavericks reading of AC3 audio track as having a 0 Kbps data rate) and QL now handles multiple video tracks. (Mavericks—one step forward and two steps back as far as QT is concerned.)

  • Custom Quicktime pro export settings for iPhone

I want to custom export from Quicktime Pro, using h.264 in an mpeg4 container with a low data rate (about 400kb) and smaller size (400x220)
It imports into iTunes fine, but won't sync to my iPhone (error message: 'xxx' was not copied to the iPhone 'xxx' because it cannot be played on this iPhone.)
I've tried the Quicktime Pro preset called 'movie to iPhone', and it works fine: the movie copies to my iPhone. The filesize though, is far bigger than I know I can get it down to with custom settings.
I just can't get it to load onto my iPhone.
    What am I missing?

You've got Tiger and Automator! Learn how to use them help you make some "presets".
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/
You could also "hack" the .plist files found in the QuickTime Player.app and edit away.
Control-click on the QuickTime Player and choose "Show Package Contents". Inside the resources folder are a number of .plist files for presets. If you have the Developer Tools installed a double click on a .plist should open the Property List Editor. Change the settings to your liking, but beware.
I use Automator as either a "workflow" on a stand alone "application". Workflows can be triggered by a control click on a file where the "apps" act like AppleScript "Droplets". Drag a file to the droplet and let the application do its thing.
QuickTime Pro stores the "Most Recently Used" settings for many exports. These would be easy to re-construct or edit to allow you to create dozens of different "presets". Save each as an application (naming them may be troublesome) using Automator.

  • How long will quicktime pro movie record for?

how long will quicktime pro movie record? i would like to record a 10+min onscreen movie clip. would like to find out before I purchase it. thanks. owen

how long will quicktime pro movie record?
That depends. How much free space do you have available on a single drive? Which compression format do you plan to use? How fast is your CPU. Barring the unexpected, QT 7 Pro will record until it runs out of scratch space. Frame rates are dependent on your CPU power which means newer, more powerful platforms record more frames per second and thus tend to have higher data rates up to the max standard for the system. Lastly, the compression format/device type/device capture size/graphic complexity combination also determines the average data rate. So, as long as the average data rate times the duration of the clip is less than the amount of free space available on your hard drive, you can record continuously.
i would like to record a 10+min onscreen movie clip.
If by "oncscreen" movie you are referring to a "screen capture" of a movie, the QT 7 Pro will not do this. You either need to use a third-party screen capture application or upgrade to Snow Leopard for QT X "screen capture" capabilities.

  • Quicktime Pro: When Exporting for Web, how much does it reduce file size?

I'm considering purchasing Quicktime Pro so I can reduce the file size of Quicktime movies so they load quickly to be viewed on my website. Can anyone tell me how much I can expect to be able to reduce the size of a Quicktime file?

I will try some. 50-100 kB for a 4-color PDFs sounds high if any compression at all is used in the graphic. I would suggest that you look a bit at the graphics. They may not be "16-color" graphics (you may have used 4 colors, but the graphic storage would have to be 16 color, 256 color, or millions of colors and I suspect the storage is millions of colors that a lot of scans default to). You could use PhotoShop or simply IrfanView to check the properties of the colors of the images. That would be the first step I would suggest.
Once you have the colors set, then save them as TIFF to minimize loss in the graphic. TIFF has several options for compression and I really can't advise you there. Just select whatever is the default compression. I created a 8.5X11 image with 72dpi and 16 colors, getting a 55 kB file. The corresponding PDF was 60 kB. There is pixelization and such, but that is something for you to test.
Once you you have reasonable graphics, then consider the PDF. As I said, I ended up with a 60 kB PDF. A segment of the PDF is shown below as a JPeg:
When you put the files together, use Save As to finalize the PDF. Working on the graphics first is probably the best way to fix the issue, rather than dealing with the PDF directly. This allows you to clean up the PDFs and be sure that you have the level of colors (not millions, even if you only use 4) etc.

  • Unable to find rotate controls in Quicktime Pro 7.6 for Windows

I have a number of Quicktime movies that I have taken with my digital camera. A number of them have been shot in portrait orientation instead of landscape so I bought Quicktime Pro in order to rotate them. Unfortunately I cannot find the controls to do so. I have followed the instructions in the manual:
To resize or rotate a QuickTime movie:
1 In QuickTime Player, choose Window > Show Movie Properties.
2 In the Properties window, select a video track and click Visual Settings.
3 To resize the movie, type new numbers in the Current Size fields.
To keep the same height-to-width proportions, select Preserve Aspect Ratio.
4 To rotate the movie, click one of the rotate buttons.
but when I open the Show Movie Properties window and select a video track there is no "Visual Settings" box to select and so I cannot access the resize or rotate controls.
    Any advice anyone?

It's okay I've found them now.
If anyone else has this problem, you have to select the row at the top of properties that says "video track" rather than the one with the filename in order to get the visual settings tab and make sure that you have the box to the left of the row checked otherwise you won't be able to see the results.

  • Best Quicktime resolution and codec for downloading a 1hr, 15 minute video

    Hello All;
I have to create a video that can be downloaded and played via. the web. Looking at most downloadable content, I see Quicktime is used most often.
My original fcp project is 1920 X 1080, 1 hr, and 15 minutes long.
Would would you say is the best resolution and codec to use for the highest quality at the lowest total file size ? What do you use that offers you the results you like ?
I've heard that MPEG 4 is used for web delivery and I've tried this at 720 X 480 but some of the images in the video like a american flag show a strange shimmering effect. I'm not sure what causes that as most of the video looks fine, only a few objects in the scene at various times.
I have also heard H.264 is good for web delivery and am trying that now but it will take 15 more hours to finish the export. Not sure if I'll see the strange shimmering effect as I did with MPEG 4. Hope not but if I do, is there anything I can do to eliminate this ?
    Thank you very much.
    Tim

An hour and 15 minute video is going to be huge. The smallest file size that's going to be adequate quality is probably in 800MB or better range. That's a big download for most punters.

Does this mean I have to pay shipping to return the defective MBP? I also can't find anyway to track the shipping of my replacement model. How does this work? Do I have to send them back the defective unit first then they will send me the replacement model? Or do I wait for the replacement model to arrive then send the defective unit back to them?
Sorry for so many questions. I would really appreciate if someone that has similar experience before can tell me what's going on. I am a little mad about this since I paid express shipping for the MBP and I can't use it.

  • QDesign Music 2 not listed as an export codec - QuickTime Pro 7.7.1

I have the current QuickTime Pro - version 7.7.1. for Windows 7.
I use it for my Web design course on audio & video editing.
One of the export codecs supported by Apple in the past was QDesign Music 2, a very good codec. Now I see that this codec is not listed as an export option under "Movie to Quick Time Movie", after the "Enable coding using legacy codecs" is chosen in preferences.
Currently, according to Apple, the technical specs for QuickTime 7.7 shows the QDesign codec as part of the list of supported codecs for audio, but it shows as "decoding only".
Is this telling me that the codec is only supported to play audio made with the QDesign Music 2 codec? - or does Apple still support the same codec for exporting in QuickTime Pro?
Thanks for your help, I look forward to the answer.

  • QuickTime Pro for Commercial Use?

    Hi,
I have a quick question which I hope will be easily answered; I've read the EULA for QuickTime to no avail, and tried to find online contact details for someone at Apple but I was defeated by the website and wasn't able to find a way to contact someone with this inquiry, so my apologies if this isn't the correct forum for it.
My question is - can the regular version of QuickTime Pro be used for commercial purposes, or is it only for non-commercial purposes?
I have always assumed it is able to be used for pretty much anything, but I want to clarify - I've been investigating other codecs recently (specifically, DivX, for which the software is only available for non-commercial use - if you want to use it commercially you're required to apply for an entirely separate commerical license which is priced somewhat obscenely).
    Thanks,

I'm looking for a reference to show my co-workers concerning downloading and using the free player on corporate machines. I'm getting conflicting answers and need a link to point to.
I work for a large automotive manufacturer, and currently the IT coordinator in my building is telling me: "Quick Time is free for individual use, but not for Corporate use." I can't find anywhere on the web or in the license agreement that states that.
From what I can glean from the license agreement, corporate users are not allowed to distribute it to multiple computers without special licensing. How much does a license to distribute to multiple computers cost?
I'm in tech support here, and I'd like to be able to put this on people's machines legally when they ask for it.
