Quicktime Pro 7.6 Export to DV PAL size Bug?

I'm trying to export videos to Quicktime DV PAL format with a small size (ideally 320*240), but everytime I try, I get a video that has a resolution of 1024*576
I think this might be a bug with Quicktime 7.6, as I can do this export/resize fine on Quicktime 7.2.1 on my old G5
I double checked all the settings, the OS is the same on both machines. I tried on Intel MAC and PowerPC, and the Quicktime version seems to be the only different thing...
Has anyone had the same problem?
Am I right in thinking this is a bug that was not present in earlier versions of Quicktime 7?

Hi,
our source files are most of the time MP4, and sometimes Mov H264.
We need them to be DV Pal so they can be output through a firewire canopus box to work on sound to picture in Logic Pro 8 and Protools.
The canopus box will only output video in conjuction with our DAW if the video file is DV PAL AND an anamorphic dimension.
If you have any idea, please let me know.
But I've tried to apply the conversion on 3 macs (2 Intel Macs running OSX 10.5 and QT 7.6 and one old Powerbook running OSX 10.4.11 and QT 7.6), and in each case the dimension of the output file was wrong (not the one requested).
Then tested the exact same settings on an old PowerMac Dual G5, running OSX 10.5 and QT 7.2, and that worked fine....
Any idea?

Is the problem limited to a specific file that you're exporting?

  • HELP!!!  Quicktime Pro crashes when exporting

I've had no problems until today. All of a sudden, when I export a movie from quicktime, it crashes when I click on "settings" of the codec. So I basically open the file, go to "File>Export" and click on "Options". I then click on "Settings" and boom...quicktime disappears with your usual windows error sound. Like I said, I've had no problems up till today so I don't know what I could of done to cause this. I'm running Quicktime Pro 7.2 on Windows XP Pro 64bit. I've tried uninstalling it and tried older versions...nothing seems to work. My Sorenson Squeeze software also will not load quicktimes which I believe is related to this problem. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear you are having the same problem but I'm glad its just not me. I seriously don't know what I could have done to cause this. Some sort of bug or virus going around? I've heard of quicktime being hacked in the past by a worm which causes it to crash so I'm wondering if that's what's happening. It does suck you can't really call Apple about it.
Its becoming increasingly difficult these days to talk to a human about technical issues. If you do get one on the phone, its some support person getting paid min. wage who just puts you on hold forever as they look up your problem in a generic list of "help" files. I don't want knowledge base support...I want one on one support with a trained programmer who knows how to fix your problems!

  • Quicktime Pro will not export - it hangs with 'initializing'...

I got a new iPod video for Christmas. I downloaded iTunes (7.0.2) and then upgraded to Quicktime Pro using the quicktime installed on my Windows PC (7.1.3). I fired up quicktime and tried to export several different AVI files to ipod format. Every time, it starts the process, shows 'initializing...' and then hangs indefinitely. I noticed my computer is running at around 60% cpu. I've seen this same problem shown in a number of different posts - but no one has found a solution to this problem yet. Since I'm new to quicktime/ipod, I can offer only a very limited viewpoint, but it seems to me based on my experience and the number of other unanswered posts on this same issue, that there may be a bug in the software. I'm really excited about my new ipod video, but I'd enjoy it much more if I could actually get my videos on to it.

Converting to iPod settings takes a long time.
    Try this as a test:
View and save any online video (a movie trailer for example).
Open this file, note it size and time, and export to iPod.
Time the export so you know how long the conversion takes.
Multiply this two minute (or whatever) conversion by the time of your AVI and you'll know about how long it will take.
My Mac and QuickTime converts while I sleep.

  • Quicktime Pro quits on export

I have used Quicktime Pro without any problems for a while now. However I recently installed Perian so that I could watch flash video within the quicktime player. Now I cannot export any movie content of any format from Quicktime. When I click on the export command I get the dreaded spinning beachball and then an error message - " Quicktime player quit. The problem may have been caused by the FLV plug-in" I have tried uninstalling Perian from its system preferences control panel but quicktime still quits on trying to export, (export for web still works ok though). Any ideas. Does anyone know where the problem plug-in files are stored so that I can delete them manually?
    thanks
    Steve B

Further to the last posting - It doesn't seem to be Perian which is causing the problem. I found the FLV.component file which was in the Library/quicktime folder and moved it. I can now export files again however, I now don't have the option to export as flash, which is exactly what I need to do. Anybody and solutions?
    thanks

  • Quicktime Pro Hangs on Export

I recently purchased the key to unlock Quicktime Pro so that I could export movies for my iPod Touch. However, whenever I try to export a file, regardless of setting, it hangs up and I must force quit. A small window appears, but is blank except for the three colored dots in the upper left corner. How can I get Quicktime Pro to work correctly?

Also the memory being used seems to drop after it hangs. Which I suppose could account for the length of time taken to finish.

  • Quicktime Pro freezes on export (Leopard)

Ever since updating to Leopard, Quicktime Pro freezes when I try to export a video. I've tried many types of videos and exported to many different formats, and it always freezes. I've also tried deleting all my preference files. No luck. I'm not currently using any codecs, and I uninstalled Flip4Mac and DivX, and still no luck.

I was able to export video for a while, but then it just stopped working and I don't know why!
I have downloaded Quicktime 7.2 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72formac.html), but that only works on Tiger so no luck there.
It would be really nice for apple to get there finger out and fix this bug

  • Quicktime pro will not export movies

Last year, after I updated to qt 7.X I and bought the pro key, it would no longer export movies correctly. It was a common problem and the fix was to uninstall it and reainstall 6.X. Since then it has been updated several times and is required for itunes. So, I finally reupdated to 7.X (7.2 as of this morning) and what a surprise, qt 7 still does not export movies correctly. It takes hours to export and then fails. Just like when qt7 first came out. Now, I cant even find the link to uninstall the crap and reinstall 6.X

Ok, let me see if I can clarify some. What I want is for the quicktime pro 7 that I payed for to work. I do not want to have to uninstall it and go back to qt6 (which I already know works properly because I had to resort to reinstalling it once before). Yes, I was irritated that I could not find the link to revert to qk6 as a last resort. But, I would rather not take that last resort. I would like the product I bought to operate correctly. Especially since itunes and other apps will no longer work with qk6. QT7 has been update around half a dozen times since it was released and still does not operate correctly. And I certainly don't want the hassle of reinstalling the entire operating system.
The two problems I am having with qt7 are... (1)It takes hours to export the same files that qt6 used to export in minutes. (2)With qt7, when I export an mp4 video, only quicktime on Macs will play the video. Any other player, even quicktime on windows, can only play the audio. Wmp does not play it at all. This did not happen with qt6. Any player could see the entire movie with no issues. Now, I can avoid the second problem by exporting it as a quicktime movie instead of an mp4, but it is nowhere near as efficient as an mp4. The file sizes with a qt movie are much bigger, yet the quality is much lower. I don't believe I changed any settings that could have caused the mp4s to suddenly stop working correctly on other players.
And i'm currently at work on another computer, so if teh problem doesnt sound familiar to anybody and I cant be helped without knowing the codecs i'm using, I guess i'll have to wait until I get home to look that up. But if you can suggest codecs in the meantime that maybe I have not tried, I could try those while I wait to see if the codecs I am using are wrong.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 is exporting in the wrong size

I want to export my clip I've made in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 while choosing the option "HDV 720p24" (I've also tried 25, 30 and a few others).
It says in Video Settings before I even start to work on my clip:
    "Frame Size: 1280h 720v"
Which is EXACTLY what I want.
However, whenever I choose to export my clip, it ends up being 720 x 480. That's not even 16:9/Widescreen.
I've tried entering the settings when choosing the export options, but the preset 720 x 480 can't be change.
Why is this? Is it impossible to expert a clip to be in 1280 x 720 or any other custom pixelsize I want?
    Best regards, Izzy.

    Hi everyone,
I apologize for digging up an old thread, but I figured that I'm experiencing this exact problem and have no idea how to work around it I might as well post in an already started topic.
I'm trying to export 1280 x 720 video to that same resolution, but Premiere Pro will not let me choose anything other than 720 x 480 for the size when I try to export through File > Export > Media. I have attempted to use multiple media formats but have had no results for what I need. If it really help, I've posted a couple of screenshots showing my current project settings, but this is just one of a few different formatting attempts which have all turned out the same:
    http://www.derektoigo.com/assets/screenshots/premiereexport1.png
    http://www.derektoigo.com/assets/screenshots/premiereexport2.png
Hopefully those will be enough to give you a detailed view of exactly what the problem is.
Any help with how to work around this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

  • Quicktime Pro export  does not work

I am trying to export a streaming movie to a MP4 or other to play it on my Ipod touch. The particular movie is located on http://multimedia.slowfood.it/index.php?method=multimedia&action=zoom&id=37
I have experienced this with other movies too:
When saving it from my browser it saves 1 1KB link, which I can play in Quicktime pro.
However exporting it to MP4 results in a 4 MB file, which when played only shows the quicktime logo. Exporting it to one of the other formats does the same. I am new to this. Any ideas?

It's a streaming video. You can't save a streaming video. Streaming videos stay on the sever and aren't cached on your computer. Most videos that you see on the internet are progressive video's. A progressive video can be save to your computer.

  • Just Got Quicktime Pro And Nothing Has "Exported" properly Yet?

I just got an 80 GB iPod Classic and as you can imagine, I wanted to be able to convert some of my DVDs into an iPod friendly format. I converted a few of my DVDs into MPEG and Mov. files and Quicktime Pro has not exported one of them prperly. What is wrong?
I open the file I want to convert, click export, select a format and location for the new file and in like two seconds it tells me it is 100% finished (which I know can't be the case). When I locate the "exported" file it is only a few k in size . . . Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggg!
Please help me out, I must be missing something.

Is the word Pro removed from some QuickTime Player menu items?
Does the Control Panel say Pro under your registration number?
    If so, you've got Pro.

  • Quicktime Pro: When Exporting for Web, how much does it reduce file size?

I'm considering purchasing Quicktime Pro so I can reduce the file size of Quicktime movies so they load quickly to be viewed on my website. Can anyone tell me how much I can expect to be able to reduce the size of a Quicktime file?

I will try some. 50-100 kB for a 4-color PDFs sounds high if any compression at all is used in the graphic. I would suggest that you look a bit at the graphics. They may not be "16-color" graphics (you may have used 4 colors, but the graphic storage would have to be 16 color, 256 color, or millions of colors and I suspect the storage is millions of colors that a lot of scans default to). You could use PhotoShop or simply IrfanView to check the properties of the colors of the images. That would be the first step I would suggest.
Once you have the colors set, then save them as TIFF to minimize loss in the graphic. TIFF has several options for compression and I really can't advise you there. Just select whatever is the default compression. I created a 8.5X11 image with 72dpi and 16 colors, getting a 55 kB file. The corresponding PDF was 60 kB. There is pixelization and such, but that is something for you to test.
Once you you have reasonable graphics, then consider the PDF. As I said, I ended up with a 60 kB PDF. A segment of the PDF is shown below as a JPeg:
When you put the files together, use Save As to finalize the PDF. Working on the graphics first is probably the best way to fix the issue, rather than dealing with the PDF directly. This allows you to clean up the PDFs and be sure that you have the level of colors (not millions, even if you only use 4) etc.

  • PPT to DVD using Quicktime Pro

I am trying to transfer a Powerpoint slide to a DVD. I had heard it could be done using Quicktime Pro. I have made the PPT a .mov and can get it to open in Quicktime, but the animations and timing does not transfer. A 5-second PPT is coming out as 17 seconds long. How can I fix this?

QuickTime Pro doesn't export to the MPEG-2 format so it doesn't make DVD's
Your profile says you're using a Mac.
Export your .avi to DV Stream (.dv) format (make sure you can play them with QT first).
Use iDVD to burn your DVD. It will convert your .dv file into the MPEG-2 format used on DVD's.
If you don't have a built in DVD burner you may be able to use a Firewire external. Check before you buy to be sure it is compatible with iDVD software.

  • QuickTime Pro Video Conversion

I know i just posted about video capture, but i also have a question about how to convert video types to a different type. Please again let me know if i wasted my money.

QuickTime Pro does not export to MPEG-1. But it can view them.
I guess that you mean WMP (Windows Media Player) formats and the Windows version of QuickTime Player doesn't open those formats. The Mac version uses third party software (Flip4Mac) that allows some WMP formats be viewed inside QuickTime Player.
Why do you want to convert to MPEG-1? What is the goal of this conversion?
Toast from Roxio can create MPEG-1 files from numerous video formats.

  • If I buy Quicktime PRO...?

Will I be able to...export my .wmv movies to idvd, imovie or Final Cut as another format?
I can now but since i haven't purchased Flip4mac the flip4mac website comes across the preview screen of idvd, imovie and FCPE. Does quicktime pro solve that problem by having the option to convert the .wmv file to another format? Or do i need to buy Flip4mac?
Another thing i would like to do is take my downloaded music videos that are mostly in mpg to dvd. Would Quicktime PRO allow me to export what i'm watching on it to a compatible format for say idvd?
Can i download quicktime pro from the internet or does it have to come through the mail as i'm trying to finish a project tomorrow?

Paid upgrades of Flip4Mac are required to convert WMP formats.
QuickTime Pro can't export audio from MPEG 1 or 2. Use MPEG Streamclip.
Nothing to download. The registration info comes in an email.
