Quicktime pro and video?

Hi, if I get QT pro, will i abe able to play avi/mpeg etc. videos and transfer them to my IPOD video? I have lots of little videos from my canon camera which play fine in iphoto (not to mention tons of funny videos friends send). I just want to import those videos from iphoto to my IPOD video. Seems like it should be easy? Just confused after reading a lot of posts. Any simple reponse? Will QT Pro do this? And what converter format is best.
Many thanks

You've got a few more hoops to jump through first.
Apple is no longer selling the Pro upgrade for version 6.5.3 (the only version that will run on your system).
You'll have to upgrade to 10.3.9 and buy QuickTime 7 Pro.
Since the video iPods are not shipping it's hard to say just what video formats it will play. Trust that they will be "standards based" so your .avi files are out. As are MPEG 1 or 2 formats.
Your computer will be very slow exporting to the H.264 video codec but may be able to process standard .mp4 files.
If you can view the file now (using QT Player) you should be able to export. MPEG 1 and 2 will require additional software to export.

  • Quicktime Pro and getting videos off the web

I am bound and determined to get videos off the web and use them to make my own videos and what not. I was wondering if quicktime pro is the best program to use for my project. I have downloaded other programs that don't work and I am sick of the hassle. If there is a sure thing program anyone knows about, I'd love to know. Otherwise, it would be great to hear about quicktime pro and it's adeptness or otherwise at successfully getting videos off the web.

Okay I figured out how to do that, but once it is downloaded, I am still having trouble. I don't know which application to use to open the file. Quicktime won't open it because it says it's not a movie file. I downloaded a standalone player and that couldn't open it either. What do I do?

  • I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1, but QTP won't run...

I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1. I have already registered QuickTime Pro, but when I try to use it, my computer just says I have QT 7.1 installed. I can't use and of the features of QTP. I followed the installation directions, but I must be missing a step because my computer has no clue that I own QTP! (Also, when I try to Export a video, it says that I need to install QuickTime Pro, which I've already installed...)

Have you attempted to re-enter your registration information? Or does it not allow you to do this?
Secondly, have you tried uninstalling Quicktime, then reinstalling it via the Control Panel or QuickTime Start Menu Group?

  • Quicktime Pro and JVC .Tod files

I have a JVC Everio and I edit my videos on my Macbook using Quicktime Pro and Final Cut Express HD 3.5. In order to have my videos work on FCE, I need to convert (as many of you may know already). I havent had a problem doing so and lately Ive only been editing 3-5 min clips and quality isnt that much of an importance to me for those small clips as they are only for testing purposes. My question now is, if I want a long (1hr-2hr) video with a nice, clear, HD picture from my .tod files (CBR 1440x1080), what format should I use in Quicktime Pro, to convert the video from a clear .tod file, to a clear "" file??? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!

Just thought I help out with the JVC community who's having the same problem I faced for months. They have actually now released new plugin that works with QT 7.4.x
I just got mail from JVC's escalation agent after months of mail ping-pong. I guess that appropriately make him E-Mail Specialist. You can download the latest Quicktime plugin for version 7.4.x on this URL
    http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/updateqtc_for_gzhd7/qtc3eupdate.htm
I just hope Apple does not release security update and release v7.5.x anytime soon. But that should be JVC's responsibility to keep its customers well updated with its TOD format conversions.
Finally now we can update to QT v7.4.x!! Good luck. And spread the word.
PS: I have yet to see an update on JVC's website about this new plugin release. But I cab confirm that its already lost lots of OSX Everio HD camcorder users.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

  • Quicktime Pro and WIndows Vista

    Hi.
I just bought Quicktime Pro, and was looking for ways to upgrade my quicktime. I tried to follow the online instructions.
Except that the Online instructions don't work for Windows Vista, because the instructions are set for XP. I know this because there is no Quicktime Control Panel in my computer's Control Panel. Unless I'm doing something wrong, which I might be.
However, the issue is driving me up the wall and I'd really appreciate some help in getting to actually input the registration code SOMEWHERE.
    Thank you.

QuickTime 7 Pro is activated by downloading the QuickTime 7 software from the Apple website. What you actually paid for is the registration to unlock the Pro features within QuickTime. What you should do is:
    1) download the latest version of QuickTime 7 and install in on your machine.
    2) there should be an icon in the Control Panel for both Vista + XP called "QuickTime" (if u don't see it, switch the Control Panel to Classic View located on the left hand tasks
    - OR -
Open QuickTime 7 directly and click *Edit > Preferences > Register*
    3) enter your necessary registration info then click OK/Apply
When it has updated, you can choose to update the software from *Help > Update Existing Software*

  • I have purchased Quicktime Pro and entered the registration key but does not operate.  Apple does not have a support tab for this so I'd appreciate any help.  I have Windows 7 Home.

I have purchased Quicktime Pro and entered the registration code.  It indicates at it has been installed, but it does not run.  Any suggestions?

The trim to selection function is available and it appears to be working.  For now, I seem to be operable as Pro even though the header doesn't say so. Thanks.

i just bought quicktime pro and can't get it to show up in my system preferences. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
QuickTime only appears on System Preferences if you are running Mac OS X Leopard, and you have OS X Mountain Lion.
In Mac OS X Snow Leopard and newer, QuickTime Player 7 isn't included, so you have to install it before getting QuickTime 7 Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3678
After installing QuickTime Player 7, you have to activate it in order to get QuickTime 7 Pro. In that link, follow the steps under "Information for QuickTime 7 Pro users"

QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later
You need to install version 7 to add the registration info.

  • Editing video file in Quicktime Pro and producing a file which doesn't play

    Hi all,
I have been editing some mp4 video in Quicktime Pro by setting the in and out position markers and cutting out segments (commercials). I save the file and end up with a .mov file which plays fine in the Quicktime player. (The file is a self-contained Quicktime movie.) At some point in the future, though, when I go to open the file in the Quicktime Player, only the audio plays. The video does not play, and the file opens as if it contained no video. That is, the Quicktime Player only shows the audio controls, and there's no area for video.
The same file plays fine in a Finder window when using CoverFlow/QuickView mode, which is very strange to me since I assume that uses the same Quicktime engine. It also plays fine in VLC.
Any ideas? It seems like there's some attribute on the file which is telling the Quicktime Player not to play the video, only play the audio.
    Thanks in advance,
    Russ

    Any ideas?
First thing I would do when the file opens as an audio only files is check the "Properties" window to see what it says on a track by track basis. I also might try re-compressing the edited file to see if this prevents whatever is going on.

  • I bought Quicktime Pro and have no clue where or how to verify it was downloaded.

Can't find a community for this question.  Ok can't cut and paste so I bought Quicktime Pro for my PC and no where did I see a link to download.  I have no clue if I am running the Pro version that offers Video editing.   I opened Quicktime Player and went to Edit and Preferences but no dice as far as I can tell.

  • NO AUDIO with QuickTime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback

I just purchased Sony Camcorder (Sony DCR-DVD610 DVD Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom) and recorded some movies. But when I tried to view it through my iMac (Version 10.4.11) the MPG format files wouldn't played.
So I purchased "QuickTime Pro 7.5" and "MPEG-2 Playback" -- Well, the movies finally played BUT NO AUDIO at all. I also downloaded several supported codecs but still failed -- NO AUDIO.
Anybody knows the answer?. Please help -- Thanks much!

So I purchased "QuickTime Pro 7.5" and "MPEG-2 Playback" -- Well, the movies finally played BUT NO AUDIO at all. I also downloaded several supported codecs but still failed -- NO AUDIO.
All DVD camcorders I've seen use AC3 for audio. As QT Kirk pointed out, this audio format is not supported natively by QT which is why you need the latest Perian or the A52 codec installed.
The camcorder comes with 3" DVD+RW. Since my computer is iMac with CD/DVD drive slot on the side, I can't play the 3" DVD. The drive only play the regular 6" CD/DVD...
I believe Rick was trying to find out if you can connect the camcorder via the USB cable (closing iMovie '08 if it opens) and access the movies at the file level directly from the camcorder. If you can see the files on the camcorder, then they can be copied to your hard drive and/or opened in MPEG Streamclip for viewing/conversion to iMovie '08 "edit" compatible file formats. The free MPEG Streamclip application, together with the $20 MPEG-2 Playback component which you have already purchased, will allow you to convert your video files to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 video with DV, AIFF (Big/Little Endian), Uncompresses, AAC, etc. compatible audio. DO NOT CONVERT TO APPLE ANIMATION OR APPLE VIDEO COMPRESSION FORMATS as they will import and edit but not export properly from iMovie '08. DO NOT USE QT PRO (or any other QT application) TO CONVERT YOUR FILES as this work flow will not retain the original audio content. (I.e., your original QT Pro conversion attempt may have lost the original audio content and, if so, no added component will now allow you to hear the non-existent audio.)

  • Quicktime Pro and Indeo Codec 5?

I have a Casio Exilim camera and my .avi movie files do not play on QuickTime 7 on my Mac OS X. I have sound but no video output. I tried downloading a variety of players/codecs and converting the files to other video file types (.mov, mpeg) but the files ended up only playing successfully on the VLC media player. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to upload my movie files to iMovie - no video, only sound -(which is frustrating because one of my main reasons for getting a mac was for its video editing capabilities). I read that the codec that supports Casio .avi files is an old one called Indeo 5. I also read that Quicktime Pro supports this codec but not for Mac OS X.
Can anyone confirm whether or not Quicktime Pro supports Indeo 5 on a Mac OS X before I drop $30 for it?

I read that the codec that supports Casio .avi files is an old one called Indeo 5. I also read that Quicktime Pro supports this codec but not for Mac OS X.I don't see it listed on the Official Support Page for QT Pro. Some Indeos may been ported for use with OS 9, but I don't believe any were for OS X.

  • Quicktime Pro and .ts MPEG2 Files

I posted a similar question in the AppleTV forum, but thought it may be better suited here.
I have some HD .ts files that I'd like to convert for use with my AppleTV when it arrives. If I buy Quicktime Pro, would it be able to convert the file into an appropriately formatted AppleTV-ready file? Would I need to purchase the MPEG2 addon as well? If this is possible, would there be any steps that I would need to go through, or would be it as simple as opening the file and selecting 'Export to AppleTV'?
Also, what kind of editing capabilities are built-in to Quicktime Pro? Would I be able to make simple cuts to remove scenes/commercials that I did not want before exporting?

If I buy Quicktime Pro, would it be able to convert the file into an appropriately formatted AppleTV-ready file? No. In addition to the proble of opening such files, QT does not preserve the audio found in "muxed" formats which converting the MPEG-2 video data. A better application for conversion here would be MPEG Streamclip (free). It will handle TS files and either convert them directly to TV compatible files or convert them to DV files which and be edited in iMove, FCE, FCP, etc. before final conversion for TV use. This workflow does not require QT Pro, but I usually recommend purchasing it you think you may want to do any of a number of operations. While Streamclip is best suited for MPEG edits, merges, and sequential processes, QT excells at the layering of multiple tracks and other facets -- so the two really complement one another.
Would I need to purchase the MPEG2 addon as well?Yes, both MPEG Streamclip and QT require the MPEG-2 QT component for conversion of MPEG-2 (but not MPEG-1) files. "Muxed" MPEG formats (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2) do not retaing audio when converted by QT Pro or iTunes. In addition, QT does not support AC3 audio natively -- yet another reason for using MPEG Streamclip.
If this is possible, would there be any steps that I would need to go through, or would be it as simple as opening the file and selecting 'Export to AppleTV'?This is really up to you. You can, of course, convert to an TV compatible file directly from MPEG Streamclip. Or, you can convert to a fully compatible QT format like DV or Animation which can then be converted to an TV filr using either the "adaptive" feature of QT Pro's "Movie to TV" export option (or applications that access QT Pro options) which will create an TV compatible file based on the current display saize and frame rate (or use QT Pro's manual "Movie to MPEG-4" export option).
Also, what kind of editing capabilities are built-in to Quicktime Pro?Basically, you can do anything from chaptering you files to layering a "picture-in-picture" display.
Would I be able to make simple cuts to remove scenes/commercials that I did not want before exporting? Not in QT Pro but you can both trim and merge MPEG-2 content. The process is simple and straight forward once you know how. If you to do more, like add titles, transitions, and stills, add audio overlays/blends, add special effects, add chapters, and create outputs in numerous delivery formats, then use of a full editor application would be better.
