Quicktime pro errors

I am on a mac pro with OS 10.7.5 -- I am getting these error messages.  I do not know how to go about re-installing the program.  All indication are that it came packaged with the OS release and cannot be otherwise downloaded.  Please help.

Formac StudioTVR?... Now there's a name I've not heard in several years. In fact, I didn't think anyone was still trying to use the device any more.
I do not know how to go about re-installing the program.
Which program?
QT 7 is now an embedded structure within Mac OS X—so you can't really re-install it as you once could on pre-OS X systems.
If you are referring to the StudioTVR driver, I'm not sure there has ever been an update to v3.6.2 (14Nov'08 release) for Leopard OS on Intel/PPC platforms and if there has, I'm not sure where you can find it since Formac was never good at customer support.
If you are referring to the firmware upgrade, I believe that had to be done by Formac back when they still supported this product.
With regard to this modal message, it would be helpful to know how and what you are trying to do when the modal message appears. (I.e., opening the app, are you using it as a TV tuner, are you using it as an Analog-to Digital capture device or "snapshot" device, etc?) For instance, this could refer to
An unsuccessful attempt to access the DV encoder component. (I.e., have you checked to see if the DV codec component is actually missing?)
Your Formac Studio device not being recognized by your system. (I.e., I is not connected to your system, it is daisy chained but not using an external power supply, you have a bad firewire cable, no input signal to the device, the device is not properly set up, etc.)
Your software/firmware is out-of-date for your Mac OS X system.
The capture software is not compatible with the device/driver. (Does it work when capturing with iMovie, FCE, FCP, Vidi, etc?)
All indication are that it came packaged with the OS release and cannot be otherwise downloaded.
Have no idea what you are referring to here. Basically the Formac Studio/StudioTVR was an early DAC device specifically designed for compatibility with iMovie and has been replaced by newer, general purpose DAC devices which are more efficient and have higher resolution capabilities over the last decade. In the absene of support by the manufacturer, this device may be DOA at this time with regard to your current system if compatible software/drivers/firmware is not available.

I'm importing video clips from a video camera via firewire. I do this all the time and never had problems until today. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard about a month ago, but it was working fine up until today. Can anyone shed light on what this means and how to fix it?

So does the HC3 and I have to re-set the camcorder output to match the capture settings each time I switch modes. However, I don't use QT for capture since the ability to maintain frame rate is dependent on the platform's CPU power. As you feel the problem is tied to your use of QT Pro, why not download and try the free Vidi dedicated capture utility.
I'll check out vidi. I'm not familiar with it. I've been using this same method to capture clips for several years. I pretty much set the camera once and never have to mess with it again. I don't switch the mode at all during the day.

  • Quicktime pro error process terminated unexpectedly (11)

I found this thread somewhere else, but there were no solutions available...
All of the sudden (and about the same time as everyone else - the last of May? - I started getting MAJOR problems when converting video files in my licensed version of FCE and my licensed version of QTP. Both of which I depend on professionally.
Apple, if you can't fix a problem, the best thing to do is NOT to shut down discussion in a thread... but to FIX THE PROBLEM!!!
Any suggestions as to what is happening EVERYTIME I try to convert a Quicktime Movie to ANY other format? (Especially FLV!)

  • Quicktime Pro Error Message Using iSight To Record

Just wanted to post this quick fix to an issue I had (BTW), before I FIGURED THIS OUT, I called Apple support and was told I'd have to pay $199.00 for QT Support... nice Apple. Anyway, if you are trying to record using the built in iSight camera and get an error message "can't record video" (I'm paraphrasing) check to see where you're saving the video (as in the folder). QT defaulted to my desktop, but it had little RED hash (minus) sign on it. I changed the saved folder location to my "Movies" folder and it worked (FYI: I changed it back to my desktop folder to see if that was really the issue, but it worked fine, so I'm not sure what desktop folder it was looking at, maybe a shared one).
Hope this helps someone and it's free.
PS: Check your settings in preferences as well.

  • QuickTime Pro - error copying a segment from a video-stream.

I got one video-stream running, in QuickTime, has so since the last 10 hours. Also a finished stream from another program. The latter I made a segmented copy from, via QuickTime.
Copying the file to my desktop started, but just left a small file, rather than 1 hour of video. The window of this copy can't be closed. I have moved this file to the Trash. One stream is still running, it's about a train-trip, minute by minute - Bergen to Oslo - a 100 years anniversary - 'Bergensbanen' in Norway. The other stream, from which I made a segmented copy, is also still at my desktop, accessible - stream has ended. Attempting a new copy, does not solve my pickle.
I can't close the window of my copied video, in order to make a new one. According to my modem, I'm still receiving video-data, but no video-output, this data is probably from the 'train-video.' I don't want to loose the 'train-video', or the other one, in order to make a new segmented copy of the latter.
Any input on how to salvage the one stream running, the video of the ended stream, and delete/close the segmented copy, are appreciated.

    Files can be accessed online.
    Internet streams?
They are never on your computer's hard drive to begin with so there's nothing to save.
Think of it like a broadcast TV show.
Streams are only temporarily held in RAM and then only a small part at a time. Whoever provides the media in this form does so because they don't want folks to be able to save it, only watch it.
What you saved to your desktop was a Reference Movie -it points at a file stored elsewhere, which in this case is a server on the internet.

  • Error when trying to save still image from video with Quicktime Pro

I just purchased Quicktime Pro so that I can use it with my new Nano (the one that shoots video). I want to grab a frame from the video and create a still image (in jpeg format). I should be able to do it, but when I try, I get an error 11005 (or something like that). Anyone know any way to fix this? Thanks!

I also tried the alt/ctrl/shift buttons when clicking Editor in the Photoshop welcome screen. It did ask if I wanted to reset the preferences. I chose yes. I still get the same error message when trying to save for web.

  • QuickTime Pro audio exporting error - help please!

So I've got Perian installed to read 1080p HD movies and I opened up .mkv files in QuickTime Pro and allowed it to read the files into memory (let the grey bar go for a few minutes).  Once that was done, I wanted to export the DTS 5.1 surround sound audio track to .AIF format and do a pass through encoding of the video only.  After this, I use MAX to convert the .AIF file into an AC3 file which I add back into the video only to create the final .mp4 file with 5.1 sound.  I've done this successfully before and I prefer this method to downconverting the 5.1 audio into stereo sound when converting the .mkv to .mp4.  This time however, QuickTime Pro miserably failed.  I have Avatar in 1080p and The Lord of the Rings trilogy in 1080p as well and I wanted to convert them to .mp4 the same way I've done before.  All of them failed with the same error.  When I tried to export the audio, I believe it said, "qtKiterrorcatchall (-1309)" and it failed.  It said this for all of the videos and strangely enough, it worked great with another .mkv movie I had perfectly with audio and video tracks in the same formats.  Does anyone know how I can fix this and export the audio track so I can preserve the surround sound and put it back into the .mp4 video file? Many thanks...

I'm having the same problem. Were you able to get an response or and answer to this problem? Thanks

  • QuickTime Pro will not open .wma (Error #2048)

I have a few .wma movie files that I have created in (the horrible) "Windows Live Movie maker".
I wanted to be able to play these files on my iTunes, so I foolishly purchased QuickTime Pro after reading the description. "QuickTime 7 Pro can convert your media to different formats, so you can watch a movie or video on your iPhone, iPod, and Apple TV..". But it refuses to open any .wma files so that I can convert them. I keep getting the error message #2048. I read somewhere that installing new codecs might help...? If so, please treat me like 5 year old and explain to me where to start with that. Or should I just give up on it altogether?
It is really frustrating... I've ripped my hair so much I have bald spots and they are growing by the minute
Any solutions for this problem will be very much appriciated! Thanks!

I was afraid of that.. :-(
Yeah... well, I've tried to import the files to iTunes, both through drag'n drop and by Files/Add to Library but nothing, zip, zero happens. Not even an error message appears. I have no problem with adding mpeg4 files but I get no reaction when trying to add the wma's...

  • Quicktime Pro problems, involving Error -43 and disappearing files

I'm very confused, and I'm hoping someone can help me. Right now I'm in the process of trying to get my Quicktime Pro movies to my Ipod (in iTunes), but it hasn't been working for me. Hopefully I can get some insight here.
What I do is, I download the MPEG4 video files and they open up in Quicktime Pro. I then click "Export" and choose Video to iPod. I then choose a destination, and re-name the file if I want (I usually rename it, and send it either to my desktop or My documents). After it's exported, it SHOULD appear in that place, and about 30% of the times it does, the other times it just disappears. However, after I'm done dragging it to iTunes, I then want to take it off my desktop, so I've been putting all of the video files into a folder I created in My documents. Now, they DO load onto my Ipod and iTunes, but when I want to play them in iTunes, it does the whole "Error 43- File could not be found" when I know for SURE it's still on my computer. And if I want to play that certain video file again on Quicktime, when I search for it the files arn't even there, yet when I go in manually I see them.
Some theories I have: When I export the files from Quicktime to iPod, I usually rename the file. Does this affect anything?
My iTunes IS NOT set to manually manage music and videos, maybe I should reset that?
One thing I am curious about, is when I put the exported video files into a folder on my computer, the little icon that comes up for them is the Windows Media Player Icon. This may just be because I'm using a Windows PC, but who knows.
I really hope someone has ideas on what I'm doing wrong, I'd really appreciate some help. Or if someone would walk me step-by-step through the process of Quicktime ---> iPod, that would be wonderful also.

The only time I have experienced error- 43 file could not be found was when having a drive named in a way that QT could not read from. For example (F:\F:\), drive named (F:\) QT could then play. Kirkster points out something interesting in this link on how the error 43 can also be generated:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1151490&tstart=15
Changing the name of a file should not prevent QT from playing the file, it is unusual to have a WMP logo on the file, what is showing when right clicking and Properties?
It is difficult to understand your post, your all over the place at once on the computer.

  • Quicktime Pro 7.3 and error code -8961

I'm an absolute newbie to using Quicktime but I went to the apple site last night and after reading a lot of very bad reviews decided to purchase Quicktime Pro 7.3 anyway. I used it successfully to take an mp3 audio file (not from itunes) and transfer it to 16bit 48k which was one of the reasons I purchased the software. It works great. Ironically after the download of Quicktime pro my itunes account would not connect to the itunes store. I don't know if it had anything to do with the download but I searched on other forums and literally found hundreds of users having the same problem. I upgrade itunes to 7.5.0.20 and now everything seems to be working fine.
I do video editing so I want to be able to take an avi file and convert it so I can trasfer it to my ipod (classic 80gb). The avi file is clean and works well on pc 1 (pc 1 doesn't have quicktime on it). I imported the file into pc 2 (pc 2 has Quicktime pro on it). When I went to export the first time nothing happend, it wouldn't work. The second time it said something to the effect that I was missing components or whatever and displayed error code -8961. I figured I needed new or different codec(s). I'm familiar with what codecs are but not how to install them or which ones I need or even where to get them. So I took a chance and downloaded what I believe were various codecs that were listed on a linked page (that apple suggested). Interestingly, after downloading the codecs (I read the descriptions and the two I downloaded seemed like the only possibilities) I tried to play the avi clip again in quicktime pro and this time it played but only the audio portion no video. Any ideas what the problem is and if it can be fixed? I'm sure error code -8961 is at least part of the problem. Thank you. David

You will not lose your key. You only need to re-purchase when upgrading. You are merely updating which is FREE!
On the computer w/no sound, try the following:
    Repair permissions & restart.

Trick/Tip: Open up GarageBand if installed then, open a program (optional).

EDIT: if you want to have editable files, you must demux it.
Looking at the faq that Kirk just posted, I see that a muxed file (which you have) can only be transcoded to another format IF you don't try and touch the audio. I'm no professional but dislike working with muxed files. You may want to check out ffmpegx.
This program is awsome. It will demux mpegs into separate audio and video streams. These are much easier to work with. For example, if you want to cut a clip of a movie and save it separately, you can't if it is muxed (try it). I've had trouble at time when encoding to H.264 with QT7 pro, but have sucessfully used ffmpegx to do what crashed QT7.
BTW, there is a multimedia computer lab for student use in the basement of old chem. It is stocked with dual G5s and all the professional apps. More than you need, but they are a good resource.
Can I transcode MPEG-2 multiplexed (i.e., muxed) video to other formats?
Yes, the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component combined with QuickTime Pro will allow the transcode of MPEG-2 video to other formats, whether that video originates in an elementary video stream or in a multiplexed stream. However, the audio that is interleaved with the video in a multiplexed stream cannot be transcoded to other formats. Transcoding is supported for video only.
