I recently had to wipe the hardrive clean and install OS X. As I was installing quicktime 7.6 I noticed that my key code to install Quicktime Pro had come up missing. Is there anyway I can get my code back if i lost it? I sure hate to pay $25 to get another one. thanks in advance, xdeepsea

  • Quicktime pro won't install

Upon downloading and installing, my 10.5.8 system restarts, then there is no evidence of Quicktime Pro on my machine.
    Multiple tries, same result.
    Downloading again doesn't help.
    Why won't this puppy install?

There is no such thing as a QuickTime pro download.
QuickTime Player is already installed on your machine. You enable to Pro features by entering the registation info you got in the email confirmation.

  • Quicktime Pro does not install with Final Cut Studio

I have an iMac with software version 10.5.7. I installed Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut version 6.05). With other similar installations on an iMac, Quicktime Pro came as a normal part of the software. On this iMac, the Pro version of Quicktime did not get installed. Is there a way to `unlock` it? Thanks

Final Cut Studio install should "unlock" the QuickTime Player Pro features.
What makes you think you do not have it?

  • Bought Quicktime Pro - won't install !?!?

    Greetings,
I just purchased the Quicktime Pro upgrade. I already have this for my computer, but I am renting a Mac Laptop (Powerbook G4, 500MHz), OSx 10.4.9, Quicktime 7.1.6 for a presentation. My movie wouldn't play in their QT, so I figured it was something to do with not having Quicktime Pro. (The movie is in DVCPROHD720p compression). So, I figured I would just purchase the upgrade for the rented computer, I put in the key in the QT system preferences etc, but the movie still will not give me access to Pro features, and the movie will still not play. Any ideas ?!?
    Thanks, David Berry

Open up QT player>About QT player. Does it show the gray PRO sign on the blue Q?
Does the movie play on your other computer that is not rented?

  • .mov files choppy in iMovie. Will Quicktime Pro help?

I use a Panasonic FX01 digital stills camera to take small movie clips sometimes. It creates .mov files that are super smooth when played back in Quicktime.
I'd really like to use them in iMovie. iMovie imports the clips okay, but they play back slightly jerky. Would Quicktime Pro do a better job of converting the .mov files (presumably to dv) than just importing into iMovie?
Or is the jerkiness due to fps?
The camera offers me 30fps at 640x480. It also offers me, in the menu, a PAL output, which I choose. I'm not sure if selecting this makes the camera record at 25fps for PAL.
I've tried opening my iMovie project at 25fps and 29.97fps and the imported .mov is still jerky.
Is there any way to maintain the smoothness of the original .mov files and yet use iMovie to create DVDs that'll play on a PAL system?
    Thanks.

Would Quicktime Pro do a better job of converting the .mov files (presumably to dv) than just importing into iMovie?
It shouldn't make any difference for the most part. In purchasing iMovie (iLife) you gained access to the same QT "Pro" routines as when you buy QT Pro and access them through the player. What you do gain is more control over the specific settings which are applied as opposed to the "automatic" conversion by an iMovie import.
Or is the jerkiness due to fps?
Not an epert here, but would tend to believe this contributes to the problem. My recomendation wpuld be to download and try a conversion using MPEG Streamclip here. Believe QT uses a simple "drop frame" algorithm when converting from NTSC to PAL. MPEG Streamclip is has a "blend frame" algorithm option instead which ensures no video data is totally lost. If you step through the converted video, you will, however, note the periodically 2 frames have beeb bended together and, therefore, appear somewhat "fuzzy." Degree of fuzziness, of course, depends on the amount of vector motion displacement between the frames which have been blended. File is also resized to 720 x 576 as part of the operation PAL DV conversion. In any case, you can always give it a try and import the resulting file into iMovie as PAL.

  • [OT] Re-authorize Quicktime Pro after new install

    Hi there,
I just had my Mother Board changed. I successfully re-authorized Logic, but Quicktime Pro is not authorized any more. Logic Studio serial number doesn't work as a Quicktime Pro key. What is the process to get the Pro functions back, since Quicktime Pro activation should be included in Logic Studio?
    Thanks.

Finally, after using Final Cut Express, Quicktime was re-authorized automatically.

  • Uninstall quicktime pro and re-install

I have a problem with FCP quitting "unexpectedly" every time I try to export a H264 file, regardless of the original timeline codec.
I downloaded a program which analyzes the error logs and IT thinks it is QuickTime that is causing the "quits"
So my goal here is to remove quicktime and re-install.
Is there a way to do this short of reinstalling FCP completely?

Quicktime is not likely to be the problem, regardless of your IT wonks' opinions.
But if you're dead set on the attempt, try google for starters. This is hopelessly out of date but might help:

Another possible culprit of your Final Cut Pro problems could be an issue with QuickTime, which is a major component to the workings of Final Cut Pro. One problem could stem from a bad installation (update) of QuickTime. Another reason to re-install QuickTime is if the current version is not compatible with the version of Final Cut Pro you are running and if you need to install an earlier version of QuickTime. The instructions next cover both scenarios.
    1. Before installing the same (or older) version of QuickTime on your computer, you will want to delete certain receipt files first. This Apple article covers which files to delete: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
    2. Then navigate to your user Home directory > Library > Preferences.
    3. Delete these QuickTime preference files:
    com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
    QuickTime Preferences
    4. Repair permissions on your main hard drive.
    5. Install QuickTime from Software Update or by downloading it from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mac.html . For an older version of QuickTime, go to http://www.apple.com/support/ and do a search for the particular version you are looking for.
    6. After the install and subsequent computer restart, repair permissions again.

  • Why won't QuickTime Pro validate and install?

I purchased QT Pro and have QT 7.6.7 installed already. But the registration process won't accept my registration code. Not sure why unless it is because when I open Control Panel and then open Quick Time (32-bit) that means QT Pro is not compatible with my 64-bit PC running Win7. Any suggestions?

Make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
Also make sure you purchased a key for the correct platform (Windows or Mac). QuickTime keys are not cross-platform.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT3678 Quicktime Pro won't install

I did exactly everything on the page. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
I have Mountain Lion. Installed Quicktime 7. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923?locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US
Bought Pro. Put in registration code, Quicktime Logo Pro showed up in box.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
BUT all Pro capabilities still ghosted out and no Pro functionality or Logo anywhere else but that one box. Any help?

Try quitting and relaunching the app. If that doesn't help, try rebooting your Mac.

  • No Sound playing AVI files in Quicktime Pro - help!

Help! I just bought QT Pro for Windows(Xp) to convert my AVI files to Mpeg4 for my Ipod. The Apple Store sales guy promised it could be done. I see video but no sound on all of the AVI files. For example, on 2 of my AVI video files, according to Gspot, the video codecs are "divx 3 low motion" and "Xvid" and they are installed on my pc. According to Gspot, the audio codec required is "0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3" which can play on
    --> {Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (advanced)}
    --> {MPEG Layer-3 Decoder}
which are both installed on my pc, yet I have no sound. I am stuck! The bit rate is 128. Should I be using another audio codec??? Where can I get it? Help! Anyone?

Some of the avi files created on PCs use variable bit rate mp3 souind. QT will not play that type of mp3 in avi files.
One way to deal with the issue is to convert the mp3 to a QT-friendly format. You can try this process, using this freeware Windows program: VirtualDub
Open the problem file in VirtualDub. Set the Video mode to Direct Stream Copy. That will copy the video to the new file with no change. Set the Audio to Full Processor Mode. Then set the compression to IMA compression. Now use Save As Avi in the File menu to make a new file with a new name. Since only the audio is being changed it is a fairly rapid process.
One last thing. To do this you do have to have the Windows codecs for those video formats installed. That is, you have to be able to play them in Windows Media Player. QT uses completely different codecs.

Which OS are you using? If Snow Leopard or Lion, then only the QT 7 Player can be upgrated for "Pro" use. (I.e., the QT 10 Player cannot be keyed for "Pro" use.)
Whether you are using Lion, Snow Leopard, or an older Leopard OS, ignore any instructions telling you to enter the "Key" information via the "System Preferemces" window. Use the QT 7 Player application's "Registration..." window instead. Basically, the instructions are the same as those for Snow Leopard and Lion as described HERE, but entering the information in the older OS compatible version of the QT player.

  • QuickTime Pro follow-up

I want to compress video and audio I shoot with Photo Booth so I can attach it in an email. What is the best format? Do I need QuickTime Pro? Will QuickTime Pro help?
    Thanks

You can indeed use QuickTime Pro. There's even a super easy feature that shrinks and compresses the video and audio and automatically sends the file to Apple's Mail and embeds it in an email message. I just used that to take an 8.7MB movie file, 720x540 with a stereo MP3 sound track, selected Share in the File menu, clicked the Email button, selected size Small, and it was reduced to 490KBs, 160x120, sound AAC Mono. Tiny thing. If you use some other email program, or want something a bit larger, you can choose Export, tinker with settings to get what you want. For instance, I chose MPEG-4, got 352x288 dimensions, mono AAC sound, and a file size of 1.3MBs (I have Perian installed as well as QT Pro). There's another Export option that makes a quite nice file, although you have to dig for it--you select Export for Web, select a folder, have it export for the iPhone, then go to the folder and retrieve the .m4v file. It is about 1/4 the size (in this case 2.1MBs), 480x360 with stereo sound and excellent quality.
In short, you can get what you want, how much effort you need depends on exactly what you want, everything from the extremely easy (a couple of mouse clicks), to options requiring more work and more technical knowledge.

  • Quicktime Pro registration code

Awhile back I purchased the quicktime pro registration code, installed it and it worked fine. With the latest release of Quicktime I found I could no longer play my earlier .mov files so I uninstalled the that version of QT but took care to copy down and double check my quicktime pro registration code before I did (the warning screen was a big help there).
I installed Quicktime 6.5.2 and now I can't put the registration code in for QT Pro. I get the message that my registration code and registered to aren't right. I have tried it with and without caps and the dashes. I have tried only my first name or last and reversed the order. I even tryed my itunes ID as the registered to but nothing works.
Is it possible that I am using a version of QT that predates my registration code? I have had QT pro for at least 6 months.
If they fixed the problems with the latest release of QT I would try that but I won't bother until it works correctly. Contacting Apple is tricky. They don't seem to want to interface with customers in any way shape or form. Its all FAQ and discussion groups.
Anyone have to reinput registration codes on QT that could offer me some insight?
    Dell Dimension 8250   Windows XP

Pro keys have always worked in any release of the version for which you purchased it. Also, you should have backward compatibility with any earlier formats. I have been using QT since version 2.5 and later versions have always played formats introduced in earlier versions.
In short, there is something about your system (a corrupt file or something) that is interferring with QT. You may need to completely purge yoiur system of all parts of earlier installations of QT and staart over. Being primarily a Mac person I can't tell you how to do that. But you seem to need to do that, as these issues of non-compatibility with earlier formats or Keys are just not correct. If that were a general problem for the Windows version I am sure a large number of people would have posted the problem here in the Windows forum.

  • None of my video's in iPhoto will play with Quicktime Pro

Good evening everyone, I installed Snow Leopard today, and I had Quicktime Pro, after the install it was in my Applications, Utilities folders, and I can open it, and my registration key for pro is there, but when I click on a video in iPhoto it opens with Quicktime X. How do I open them with Pro? Thanks so much!

I found the solution in case anyone is having the same problem. If you open Quicktime Pro in Snow Leopard, choose file, then open file, and then you can open any video with the pro features that way. Hope this helps some one!
