Quicktime Pro - Importing PNG graphics as Logo for Video fails...

Hey guys,
I am using the latest Quicktime on PPC. I have a video, created of several PNG graphics, and saved as Quicktime Video.
Now I want to add a small Logo on the upper right corner. For that, I use a graphic-file in PNG format, using the Alpha layer. So all that should be visible is the Logo itself.
I did it according to the Quicktime7UserGuide.pdf:
Open Logo.png in Preview, copy, switch to QT, Select All, Add to Selection and Scale.
Well, the graphics is added to the movie, but as a black square, the size of the bounding box of my PNG (and not the shape of the Logo itself).
Tuning around with all the Adjustments I found in MovieProperties didn't work. I also recreated the Logo in Photoshop (instead of Gimp), just to make sure that's not the problem.
The Alpha Layer is correctly (not) displayed in Preview.
Ideas? Appreciate it...

Yep. Some ideas for your graphic "import" to Quicktime.
Use the QuickTime Pro)) "Import" or "Open in new player" to open your graphic. Once opened Command-A (select all) and Copy (Command-C) switch to your QuickTime file and select a portion (or all) of your video. Command-V (to paste) or chose Add to Selection & Scale.
Default is the upper left most location. You can edit this via the Movie Properties window.
Once pasted you need to set the properties of this individual track. Choose your track and use the movie properties window to set them to size and location and the set the "Visual Settings" to adjust the "transparency" level and its presentation settings.
I've added .png files to many of my "movies" without any errors.

  • Poor resolution on imported .png graphics

    Hello fellow Pages users:
I am importing .png graphics made in an opensource drawing program. The original graphics are .svgs and then they are converted to .png graphics. When I look at the graphics in Preview they look fine, but when I drag them into Pages they become 'fuzzy' looking.
Does anyone have any idea why this is hapenning or what I can do about it.
Any help will be VERY much appreciated!!

SVGs are vector graphics. They are rasterized when you save as PNG. Try converting to PDF instead of PNG.

    Hi Nott.
RamCash let you allow to set priority on Writing, Latency and some Others important details.
If you have the same CPU and GPU as I have we can start making sure this:
    Your CPU is o.c. @ 4.7ghz or+.
GPU o.c.930mghz" this improve my time approx 7 sec."
Use 10gb of ram for ramcache, set latency on 10, and set writing priority.
Please let me know what HardD config you have and I will do with it.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • Will Quicktime Pro convert movies in other formats for use with IPad Air 2

ITunes 12 will let me import movies with no problem. However I cannot export these movies out to my IPhone 6 or IPad Air 2. Will Quicktime Pro allow me to convert these movies so they can be exported? I don't want to spend the $30 for it if the software will not do it.
Or if anyone else knows of another solution, I'm open to other options. I use to have an Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet and I just switched over to an IPad Air 2. Been using an IPhone for years.
    Thanks!

Nearly all "all-in-one" or multifunction devices will work with a Mac, but I recommend purchasing one from a company that visibly supports OS X. Brother, Canon, and Epson are all good choices. At present, no other common printer manufacturers are worth considering.
Wireless all-in-one devices are convenient and cost about the same as USB-only ones. Consider AirPrint compatibility for future needs.
Recently I have grown to favor Brother printers over the others. I recommend AirPrint compatible Brother printers and multifunction devices over those of other manufacturers. They are inexpensive, their OS X integration is well-implemented, their consumables are reasonably priced, and their technical support is free forever. If you need to call them and explain that you have a Mac, you will immediately receive competent assistance.
I have grown to dislike HP printers, for all the above reasons.
Read user reviews from vendor websites - Amazon is a good place to start, since Amazon lets people write almost anything they want... right, wrong, or completely idiotic.
Read the reviews on the respective manufacturers' websites as well, but consider the likelihood of them deleting negative reviews.
Process all those user reviews employing your own common sense, and draw your own conclusions.

  • Does Quicktime Pro when installed offer more codec for iMovie Export

    Hi
I have a client that wants Master quality 1080p LOSSLESS no matter what size for their presentations done in iMovie. I use QuickTime.
I know they want a true lossless codec that can be used in other edition programs. I was thinking on getting QTP7
If installed, does it have a master archival for video output that can be access from an imovie project.
    Thank you
PS they also need to distribute to customer that use Premiere Adobe

QuickTime Pro does not give you more codecs, but Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro 9 will both give you more codecs. I don't use Adobe, so I don't know what they are wanting.
In iMovie, you can export in Apple Intermediate Codec or Apple Animation Codec. Both of these are full i-frame codecs.
If you have Final Cut Pro X or Logic Pro installed, you can also export from iMovie in ProRes 422, but the internal editing will not be in ProRes 422 so I am not sure that it would gain you anything.
If you had Final Cut Pro installed, you could import into FCP as ProRes 422, then import the ProRes clips into iMovie and edit it there, and then export as ProRes 422. But if you have FCPX installed, it is just as easy to edit it in FCPX.
It is possible that Apple's Compressor ($50) app would give you the ProRes codecs, but I have no way to test that.

I find it quicker/easier to use the free MPEG Streamclip app. Simply give the files alpha-numeric names representing the order in which you want the files merged and then simultaneously "drag 'n drop" all files to the main work window. The files will automatically merge in their filename order and can then be saved using the "Save As..." File menu option which copies all audio and video data to a new MOV file container without recompressing the data (unless you need to flatten files containing mixed data formats for playback on mobile devices which do not like having data distributed across multiple tracks).

  • No audio after quicktime pro import!

I had a VHS tape converted to dvd. When I stuck the disk in my computer and opened it on my desktop it had many files including a video-ts file and an audio-ts file. In the video file it had IFO files BUP files and VOB file. None would go into I-Movie. So I tried Quicktime Pro. It would only take the VOB files and had no sound. I was able to transfer the VOB files to MOV files and them I-Movie would accept it, but again with no sound. When I just play the DVD it has sound so I know the sound is in there, but the audio file is empty!! Did I have the VHS tape converted to DVD in the wrong way or is there a way to get that audio to I-Movie? Any help would be great! Thanks.
    Bill

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
none of these apps override copyprotection mechanisms as on commercial dvds...

  • Problems Using QuickTime Pro on Windows to Compress Movies for E-mailing

I have a windows system but just installed QuickTime Pro because I understood it would allow compression of movies (home movie segments of no more than 5 minutes) to facilitate e-mailing them. QuickTime instructions describing easy use of a "Share" feature seem geared to the MAC operating system--I have no such option. I've tried opening my movie using Quicktime, going to File, exporting (Movie to Quicktime Movie) with default settings (H.264 compression, quality high, key frame rate 24, etc., audio at format integer, sample rate 11.024 khz, etc.) and prepare for internet streaming (fast start). The movie goes into my Quick Time movie files without much compression--going from an AVI file of 60.4 MB to a quicktime movie of 40.8 MB. This is much larger than the quicktime movies emailed to me of longer duration which were only a few MB. Any help for a novice who at this point only wants to compress and email movies? Thanks.

That sounds like the sound is being exported in
uncompressed format. Suggest you open one of these
filesw and use MovieInfo in the Windows menu to see
what format is being used for the sound. If it is
listed as uncompressed or raw or PCM, you may want to
try using mpeg-4 sound (aac or advance audio
    compression).
Thanks much. I tried saving the file using the AAC option (rather than Linear PCM) and that got it down only slightly (from 40.8 to 40.5 MB). I'll just keep experimenting.

I used to shoot video in my Powershot S3 IS (Format MVI_.AVI) and load them into iPhoto, I used quicktime pro so I could convert for emailing to family members.  That was when I was running Leopard now with Mt. Lion nothing works.  Videos do not open at all.  Any simple suggestions, I am not real keen on iMovie Productions and not real certain how they compress for emailing attachments.  Something simple here that I am missing?  Thanks so much.  I am a grandpa trying to share with family members far away (quickly & simply).

I am surprised that Apple did not build a converter into Mt. Lion.
Apple does have a converter built into Mountain Lion. It is call "Quicktime." However, in order to use this converter, you must first make sure the compression formats are playback compatible with QT. Basically, there are three levels of QT compatibility. The lowest is "Playback." These file can be played by QT but may not be conversion or edit compatible with QT. The second level is QT "Conversion" compatible. These files are playback compatible and can be converted to other compression formats using QT. "Edit" compatible media files are "Fully" compatible with QT since the can be played, converted and/or edited by QT. The main problem here is that AVI is a "legacy" file format that has not been officially supported by Microsoft for more than 11 years when it was replaced by Windows Media multimedia file/compression formats. Many of the original compression formats used in AVI files have never been transcoded for the Mac platform, use beyond system 9, or use beyond PPC platforms. In addition, some commonly used AVI codecs are proprietary or use non-standard (hybrid) profile and level combinations. In short, there is little wonder that Apple has been distancing itself from this outdated file type as it re-writes and upgrades its own QT structure to support more standardized, more scalable, more modern high definition file types and compression formats. It is really unfortunate that users continue to use this outmoded file type simply because it is freely available, easy to use, or they are simply too lazy to move on to a more modern or more efficient file types and/or compression formats.
I tested Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate for the Mac, which seems to be the "state of the art".  I may be purchasing a new camera which might create a whole new set of variables.  This program seems to cover all bases and is great for novices.
There are many third-party apps available if you wish to search for them. Many are even available in the App Store. Most do their job well and it is usually a matter of personal user preference as to which is best.
HandBrake seems more suited to folks with more experience and knowledge.
I mentioned Handbrake primarily because it is free and easy to use when you employ the included conversion presets options. (The TV options can normally be used for almost any situation depending on the source file and output requirements.) It is also excellent for more experienced users, but has a somewhat limited choice of output options as it does not access the user's system QT codec component configuration.

  • Do I have Quicktime Pro (or at least the license for it)?

Hello--I have Final Cut Studio (version 2) and an iMac from last year (running OS X 10.5.8).
I've read a lot about the functionality Quicktime Pro adds for Final Cut Studio owners (mainly changing things to different formats, I guess). Anyway, I was just on Wikipedia, and it says that Final Cut Studio comes with a Quicktime Pro License. But, when I open Quicktime, it is just Quicktime Player 7.6.6.
How do I upgrade? Is Wikipedia right; did Final Cut Studio come with a Quicktime Pro license? If so, how do I activate it?
    Thanks!

    Hello QuickTimeKirk...
Yes, it does, thank you for the information. I posted this in the FCP forum, too, and somebody finally had the same suggestion. I can't imagine why it's so unclear that I would have to look in that one specific place to know.

  • Best settings for importing HD movies to ATV for video gallery

    hello -
i work for a gallery, and we have a video artist who will be showing HD videos here for 2-3 months. we bought 2 AppleTVs to use to show the movies, and i'm trying to figure out the best way to convert the material and get the files on there.
using the "Create Apple TV version" doesn't preserve the HD quality of the originals, which i know aren't compatible natively. i was hoping there is a place in the settings for the ATV where i could at least review the video codec in use when converting in iTunes, but there doesn't seem to be a place for it. am i blind or is there no choice in the matter?
i've tried converting in Quicktime Pro using the settings that are on the ATV specs page, and i was successful once (in a short excerpt without much video movement) but no longer (using an excerpt that has more color, movement, etc). the bit rate is too high i'm guessing, tho i've tried to limit it to 5000 k/sec. it ends up coming out 18m / sec for some reason......
for some reason i can't get handbrake to open the file.
any thoughts? we can't afford to buy new computers to stream the original off of, so we're hoping the ATV can show the movies in the highest def possible. she sent them in 720p50 format, so i had to buy a decoder plugin to view them (DVCPro HD from Calibrated Software).
    thanks in advance

  • QuickTime Pro 7.0 takes forever to convert video from Windows Media to Ipod

    Hi,
I just got a new IPOD Video 60GB and to tell you the truth, i'm not one bit impressed with this product; to give you my honest opinion, i'm disappointed in the purchase and would not recommend this to anyone unless someone can provide me with a solution to the problem.
Simply put, i'm trying to get some video clips on my new IPOD and i can't. I tunes won't let me for some reason, i do not know. I can get music fine, have not tried photos's as yet.
Anyway, the problem is, whenever I try to convert using Quick Time Pro 7.0 from WMV (Windows Media Format) to IPOD format (MPEG4), it takes extremly long. I mean seriously outragesly long. To give you an idea, I started a conversion of a 68MB file at 5:25PM, it is now 6:24PM and it's only completed about 45% of the file.
Is Apple insane??? who is going to wait 2-4 hrs to convert 1 simple video clip? I need to find an alternative solution otherwise i'm going to complain to Apple, and if i don't get my resolution to this problem fast, I will complain to the Better Business Bureau in Canada about this. This is such a scam. Why do i have to buy Quick Time Pro 7.0 just so i can upload video? I should be able to do this through windows directly.
Anyone that can help please let me know.
If i don't find something by the end of the year, you can be sure that Apple will be hearing from me in one form or another about this purchase. I spent over $600 on the company on a product that should be simpler to use than this.

QuickTime Pro does not play .wmv files. It doesn't export them without some other third party software.
Try reading the steps and supported file formats before your complain about what it does, or doesn't, do.

  • Quicktime Pro 7.2 Can't Play Lynda Videos Chris Orvig

    Hi,
I can't play Lynda videos from "Photoshop CS3 for Photographers" with
    Chris Orvig.
They all have the .mov extension. Quicktime Pro gives an error msg,
"error -2048 Couldn't open the file <XXXXXFILENAMEXXXXX> because it is
not a file that Quicktime understands".
I tried Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic from K-Lite, but
    neither can play it either.
All my other videos are playing ok. After the error I installed every
codec from K-Lite Codec Pack Full.
    It's still not working.
How do I fix this, where do I find a patch?
I've sent an email to Lynda technical support.
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Quicktime Pro 7.2
K-lite Codec Pack Full - All Codecs Installed
    Windows Media Player 9

I can also verify this (QT Pro 7.2 exporting to .mp4 not compatible
with video iPod [firmware 1.2.1 on both 5G/5.5G units]).
This results in the unusual situation where custom H.264 output
is operable on the iPhone but not the iPod.
    Example: your iPhone should play
    http://homepage.mac.com/retiarius/sample.elements.mp4
but it won't transfer to a video iPod.
Yes, the workaround is to 'export for iPod' or do the conversion
within 'iTunes', but this in many circumstances will generate
    larger files.
The closest description of this situation is:
    http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2006-September/015930.html
Perhaps Apple will release a video iPod firmware update soon
to get the 'uuid' atoms and whatever watermarking they are
    using these days straightened out.
I'm surprised this hasn't been noticed more by video podcasters
who dutifully use Apple's own QT Pro encoding tool to optimize
filesizes via the tunable H.264/.mp4 codec settings.
