Quicktime pro installation

All I really want to do is import a QT film from final cut pro to imovie so I can burn a DVD. Imovie informs me that the project is too long to import (6minutes????) and that I have to go to quicktime pro to do something that will (compress it???) or allow me to divide it into separate pieces that I can marry later. I just want to burn a little 6 minute project. I bought quicktime pro and received the key code but it says invalid registration. When I ask for help I get sent to this site. Soo helpers...any way I can burn a DVD of this little film? Usually I go to imovie and then import the project in idvd.

In what format are you exporting the movie from FCP? DV sees to work the best for most situations; don't export as MPEG-2 as neither iMovie nor iDVD can import MPEG-2.
And there should be no need to import into iMovie to get the movie into iDVD. You should be able to add the movie directly into iDVD; going through iMovie just adds an unnecessary step.
As to your QT Pro registration issue, make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
Hope this helps.
BTW, for future questions, try posting in the QuickTime for Mac area. You'll be more likely to get a quick and accurate answer there than you will here in the QuickTime for Windows forum.

  • Quicktime Pro - Windows 8 - installs, but refuses to run!?

I've uninstalled and re-installed Quicktime (and iTunes) several times already.  I've run CCleaner to clean up any remaining pieces and re-installed afterwords.  Nothing is solving my problem.
Quicktime (Pro) installs fine on my system.  However, when I run it, nothing happens.  If I check the task manager, I see Quicktime.exe using 0% CPU.
If I double click on a .mov file, the same thing happens.
This is a system I use for my work and I deal with MOV files every day of the week, so this is a big problem.
Does anyone have an idea what could be done to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Disable any internet security temporarily and then give it a try, that could be stopping QT from opening? If not try opening QT by going to C:\Program Files\QuickTime and double click on QuickTimePlayer exe. I'm assuming you're trying to open from a desktop shortcut icon, that may be corrupted?

  • Can I cut & past MOV videos with QuickTime Pro ?

I have a couple of DigiCam Quicktime MOV videos which I want to cut & paste.
Is this possible with a QuickTime Pro installation (under WinXP) ?
Is there any other alternative software which let me do such simple tasks with Quicktime MOV videos?
    Peter

    Yes.
QuickTime Player Pro allows editing of nearly any format it can "play". MPEG-1 can be viewed but not edited.

You need to install version 7 to add the registration info.

  • I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1, but QTP won't run...

I bought QuickTime Pro, and have QuickTime 7.1. I have already registered QuickTime Pro, but when I try to use it, my computer just says I have QT 7.1 installed. I can't use and of the features of QTP. I followed the installation directions, but I must be missing a step because my computer has no clue that I own QTP! (Also, when I try to Export a video, it says that I need to install QuickTime Pro, which I've already installed...)

Have you attempted to re-enter your registration information? Or does it not allow you to do this?
Secondly, have you tried uninstalling Quicktime, then reinstalling it via the Control Panel or QuickTime Start Menu Group?

    1. Open a video file (m4v)

    3. Save video
    4. CRASH!

Drat ... so much for subtlety ...
Right, let's scrape all the QuickTime files out and reinstall from scratch.
First, let's download and save a "standalone" QuickTime installer to your hard drive (don't run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet). Get the version that doesn't mention iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Next, we'll make sure we've got your *Pro Key* secured. (Uninstalling QuickTime will remove the Pro Key, and we'll have to reenter it in the Register Tab after reinstalling QuickTime.)
Head into your QuickTime, preferences and take a note of precisely how the Key *and the name in the "Registered to" field* appear. (I've been known to take and print out a screenshot of the Register tab, in order to be quite sure of the precise details of both those things.) Don't tell us what your Key is.
Now, head into your "Uninstall a program" and uninstall QuickTime.
After the uninstall completes, we'll clean up any leftover QuickTime program files on the PC. How we do that will depend on whether you've got a 32-bit or 64-bit version of 7.
    *With a 32-bit 7*
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it still exists there) and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32 folder (if they still exist there). Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
    *With a 64-bit 7*
    1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it still exists there) and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\sysWOW64 folder (if they still exist there). Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
After the PC restarts, don't open any applications. Disconnect from the internet and/or your network, and switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Reinstall QuickTime by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Now launch QuickTime. Go into your QuickTime preferences, and reenter your name and Key *precisely as they were prior to the uninstall.* Click apply. You should see "QuickTime 7 Pro" appear in the Tab.
... now let's try giving the export another shot. Any better luck this time?

In most cases the problem is associated with a failure to follow the installation and activation instructions HERE. However, since you have not really described your problem, it is diffucult to know for sure. Suggest you read these instruction and see if they help. If not, then describe the problem in more detail since "cannot get the upgrade to kick in" could refere to anything from failure to press the "Tab" key to failure to enter a name salutation or suffix to purchasing a key for the wrong system.

  • I had quicktime pro, I upgraded to snow leapoard and installed iLife and lost quicktime pro. How do I get it back.  I tried re installing quicktime but it will not let me??

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

  • Quicktime Pro does not install with Final Cut Studio

I have an iMac with software version 10.5.7. I installed Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut version 6.05). With other similar installations on an iMac, Quicktime Pro came as a normal part of the software. On this iMac, the Pro version of Quicktime did not get installed. Is there a way to `unlock` it? Thanks

Final Cut Studio install should "unlock" the QuickTime Player Pro features.
What makes you think you do not have it?

  • Quicktime Pro

Every time I attempt to export in Quicktime Pro 7 with Window XP it automatically shuts down Quicktime. I have spent hours with Tech support. Uninstalled deleted any ghost images of the previous install and have reinstalled a completely new installation of Quicktime software. Problem still exists. Laptop is a Dell XPS 3.4 Ghz, 500 MB RAM P4 HT processor. Quicktime just simply won't work. It will play movie trailers. Is there any other way to load a Quicktime movie trailer onto an ipod??? But has anyone else experienced a lock out when you attempt to export any file??? The third party software does work on window files thank GOD, but what about the Mac stuff on a windows system?

Did you check Window - Movie properties before converting?
QuickTime requires seperate video and audio tracks in order to produce a file for the iPod with both video and audio.
There is a bug in QuickTime that causes it to crash at 17% completion of converting a MPEG-2 video to "Movie to iPod (320x240)".
I have put together a tutorial for using QuickTime to convert DVD to iPod which work around this problem:

If you can view a ProRes 4-2-2 video at all, then you either have the independent ProRes422 Playback component installed or the FCP "Pro" video components installed.

Check your "~/Library/QuickTime" folder for your various "Pro" components. If in doubt that you have them all, re-run the FCP installer and it should add any missing components, apps, or utilities.

  • Cannot install Quicktime Pro on Vista-64 bit machine

Quicktime 7 appears to be properly installed, plays video etc but there is no QT icon in the Control Panel, as required to open QT Pro in a Windows system. I have deleted and reinstalled QT 7, followed (twice) the detailed instructions in "General Installation Troubleshooting", but still no icon. Apple will not refund the price of a downloaded purchase. Any clues to how to make it work?

Quicktime may not come in 64-bit version the way that iTunes is, but that doesn't mean it isn't supported on Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

  • Quicktime pro 7 reinstall

I purchased Ouicktime pro 7 in December and have since had to reformat my hard drive and have not been able to reinstall the pro that I paid for. Is there a special way to reinstall, I have all of the registration information.

Well, you don't install the pro version per se, you unlock it. Install Quicktime with the provided installer, then open the control panel and select the "register" option. Enter your Quicktime Pro key (which you received when you ordered the Pro version). Entering the key unlocks all of the pro features.
