Quicktime Pro on multiple macs

I have Final Cut Studio 4 on my iMac, so naturally I can use QuickTime Pro there. Useful little software it is QuickTime Pro. So, again, naturally, I want to use QuickTime Pro on my other laptop macs as well. However, I've tried copying the QuickTime Pro app from my iMac to my MacBook, didn't work. Tried copying the Library files even, didn't work either. So I ask myself, is it legal that I use the Quicktime Pro I got from a single licence Final Cut Studio on multiple computers in the first place? So, guys, is it why I can't get QuickTime Pro to any of my other macs?
Is the only way to solve this problem going to an Apple store and buy a standalone QuickTime Pro?

If I remember right you can have a copy FCP on two computers. One has to be a tower and the other a laptop. And only of those computers running FCP. Meaning you can't use both computers at the same time running FCP. And of course you both will have Quicktime Pro through FCP.
But you can't copy Quicktime Pro from computer to another...You can't have multiple (of the same copy) of Quicktime Pro on more than one computer.
Meaning you have to buy a Quicktime Pro key for each computer.

Here is an excerpt from the license agreement:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.
You can download the entire SLA here:

So, it appears that you will need to purchase another copy of it if you want to install it on another computer.

  • Got Quicktime Pro with my Mac Pro, where do I find my registration code?

When I bought my Mac Pro two years ago it came with QT Pro. I've now reinstalled my computer, how do I get my QT to be Pro again?

QuickTime Pro has never been included with any Mac. It might have been activated if you bought the Mac with Final Cut Pro/Studio pre-installed, though. If that's the case, reinstall FCP/FCS and it should reactivate QT Pro.

  • Quicktime PRO registration key, Mac vs. Windows

    Hi all.
I have bought a Quicktime Pro license for my mac and it works fine... But I can't get it to work on my Windows version.
Does anyone know what the problem can be? Is the mac license not compatible with the windows license or what?
    Kind regards
    SVA

The Pro keys are not cross-platform compatible so you will need to purchase a PC Pro key to run Pro in Windows.

  • Possible to transfer Quicktime Pro from one Mac to another?

Hello -- I have Quicktime Pro on my PowerMac G5, but I would like to transfer the license/registration to my new MacPro, if possible. Is this possible? Has anyone done this? Thank you very much.
    Nick

Enter the registration info in the QuickTime System Preference pane on the new machine and remove it from the older.

  • Is it possible to register quicktime pro to multiple computers?

If i previously purchased quicktime pro and registered it to my old computer, is it possible to unregister it and reregister it to my new computer without having to re-buy the software again?

I'm not a lawyer but what you're doing sounds reasonable.
If you've purchased retail software (say Photoshop) and bought a new computer you can move it over to the new machine. Why not QuickTime Pro?
The rules say one computer per Pro registration. Removing it from one and entering it on another is still just one computer.
Make sure it is for version 7. A version 6 registration will not work.

  • Quicktime pro  PC to Mac license

    New license, I'm afraid.
However, it's one of the best value bits of software out there anyway!

  • Mac OS 10.4 QuickTime Pro purchased, registered, then "nothing"

Today I purchased QuickTime Pro 7 for Mac OS X online. I have placed the correct information into the preferences/registration area and verified inside of the QuickTime 7.0.1 preference registration area.
The Pro features are not visible (as in "nothing happens"); also, I purchased QuickTime MPEG-2 playback for Mac OS X and again I cannot run it, much less locate the downloaded document.
I know my transactions were completed, as I received acknowledgements via e-mail. I also know I have typed this in correctly. I have not used Quicktime Pro before, but shouldn't some additional features show up?
My goal here is to convert some DVD footage (in VOB format) into Quicktime so that I can drop into iMovie.

You'll probably have more luck getting help if you ask in the QuickTime for Macintosh forum. But if the "Pro" label next to the extra commands is gone, then your copy of QT is registered correctly. Note that QT Player cannot edit multiplexed MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 videos; you have to demultiplex them before importing them into QT.
If that doesn't help, try asking again in the QT for Mac forum.

  • Quicktime Pro lisence - Mac vs PC

I have Quicktime Pro lisence for mac, but now I have been forced over to a PC(I know, I know...), and my reg code does not work... Is the reg code valid only for mac, and if so, can i swop it for a PC lisence? Anybody?

No, you will have to buy a separate license.

  • How to transfer Quicktime Pro for windows to mac?

My step-father recently purchased quicktime pro for windows. Oddly enough he received his new iMac about a week later. While trying to activate Quicktime Pro on his mac he realized that pro purchased for windows will only work on windows. Is there anyway to transfer the purchase to mac?

Sorry, you (he) have to buy a separate license for QT Pro for Mac.

  • TROUBLE Converting .MOV to .WMV w-Quicktime Pro

I've been using the EXPORT feature to convert a .mov file to a .wmv file but it will only export 30 SECONDS of any .mov file I try!! I also tried converting to a .avi file first. That didn't work either.
    I have Quicktime pro.
    G5
    MAC OS 10.3.9
    I have Flip4Mac also.
Does anyone know how to resolve???
    imac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for the info. Why is is that QT Pro advertises media conversion then if it needs an additional Flip4Mac purchase to deliver the promise ?QT supports the "native" conversion of QT compatible formats and, with certain caveats, limited support to some non-QT compatible formats. Here is the list of SUPPORTED FORMATS. I don't see such proprietary Windows based formats as WMV, DivX, XviD, 3ivX, MS-MPEG4 v1-4, etc. listed among them. QT is not a universal converter any more than GM is a universal maker of auto parts for all automobile manufacturers.
On a separate note, doesn't iMovie do everything that QT Pro promises to do ? If so, is QT pro not needed for people with iMovie ?With regard to conversions, yes, iMovie includes internal access to the same QT structures as the QT Pro Player with one possibly important difference. QT Pro can transcode directly between fully supported compression formats while iMovie must convert them to DV first. This does mean a "double conveersion" is required in most cases and does open the door to possible loss of quality. In addition, QT Pro is capable of a number of file presentation/playback manipulations that iMovie cannot duplicate.

  • Quicktime pro editing vs iMovie HD editing....?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade to Quicktime Pro.
It seems like the only advantage is full screen mode and capturing clips on the internet. Both of which aren't necessary features for me.
Editing movies and slideshows are listed as features but why would I use quicktime pro if I already have iMovie? Is it better? different? I'm confused...
I use iMovie all the time to edit home movies - would there be any benefit to getting Quicktime Pro?

iMovie is a digital video editing app. If you add a still image to 10 seconds of audio it becomes 300 "copies" (30 fps) of the file.
QuickTime Pro allows you to keep the total file size much lower by using just the data from your source image file (say 30KB's) as it doesn't convert your single image into a "time" like video.
Some examples of my videos made with QuickTime Pro:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/California/index.html
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/
Both of these examples have a total file size lower than the original audio source file.
QuickTime Pro can also create "custom" player windows:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/3woodencrosses/index.html
(hit the escape key while viewing to exit full screen mode)
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/MTV
(text and Flash and MIDI music. Under 150KB's).
It can also use custom video effects that do not render as "video" which also keeps the total file size very small:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/RedneckTexasXmas/index.html
It can use up to 99 "tracks" per movie which allows you to interchange them depending on your audience without having to create a new iMovie "video". As easy as enabling or disabling a track with a mouse click.
You can add text tracks (again, no video rendering) that are very small in file size and are also vector based so they scale in size without distortion:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/Lemon_Trees/index.html
All of my "movies" are made using QuickTime Pro.
Try it. You'll also find it very useful for converting files to other formats.

  • HT3820 Quicktime Pro Invalid registration message

I purchased Quicktime Pro 7 upgrade (Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard)  I'm entering my name and product Registration Code EXACTLY as I received it in my e-mail.  I then hit TAB as instructed.  It still comes up with "Invalid Registration"
I've also used copy & paste from my registration email to make sure I am entering the information correctly.

Are you sure you purchased a key for Mac and not for Windows? QT keys are not cross-platform.

H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.
