Quicktime Pro plays vids as if streaming - can't FF until completed??

When I play vids these days from DVD, CD or hard drive the slider bar on the bottom of my Quicktime Pro gradually darkens in front of the position slider, moving slowly left to right as if the video is downloading or streaming. I can't fast forward the video past the end of the dark line, and have to wait until the entire shaded part goes all the way to the right before I can rewind. It never used to do this and it's quite frustrating if looking for a section of video as it can take ages.
Why is it doing this and what can I do to optimise things?

Found one difference between this ScreenCastsOnline podcast (which doesn't show up when I stream from my iTunes library) and all the rest: This one is 320x180 while the rest are 640x360.
It will sync but it won't stream. Once I save it as mp4 (no re-encoding), it shows up fine in the "Movies" category. Go figure.

Using QuickTime Pro with an .mpg movie, why can I only get it to play from the beginning, but not from any other point in the video? How can I fix this?
    Baffled in SB

What format of MPG is this?  Is this an MPEG1 or MPEG2 video?  How was the video created?

  • What formats will Quicktime Pro play

I just installed Quicktime Pro on Win XP, and I can't get it to open any format, including wmv! Is there any video format that Quicktime will open without buying their MPEG2 codec?

This page includes a list of formats that QT will open.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/player/specs.html
Note, however, that some of those formats are container formats that can have content compressed with many different compression formats and specific decompressors may be needed to be able to play a given file. This is especially true of avi and mov formats. If a file does not play then try opening MovieInfo in the Windows menu to see what compression was used. You may need to then search the internet for a decompressor for the file.
QT does not open wmv files, The mpeg2component is only used for playback of mpeg2 files so don't buy it unless you want to play that format in QT Player.

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • Quicktime Pro Settings for DVD Quality Streaming to TV?

    Hey All,
I have a lot of home movies I've made on my SD camcorder shot in widescreen. I have them all saved in as individual iMovie Project files. In the past I exported from iMovie as Full Quality then went to QP pro and exported them to stream on the web using Video and Audio settings I like.
Now I have connected my Xbox360 to my mac and want to go back into QP and export the files so they can be streamed to my Xbox360 and have DVD quality. I can already watch the videos but they are pixelated because they are obviously in the wrong format.
What QP export settings should I use under Options for Audio and Video on a 16:9 display?
I want DVD quality. On average my videos are 2,3 or 4 minutes long. I assume this solution would also transger over if I ended up getting an Apple TV.
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks!

I would still use the save as method to change the file extension. The default "open with" application for .m4v is iTunes, not QuickTime Player and not all users have installed it. Viewers know what a .mov file is. A .m4v may confuse them.
Use the Export to iPod settings (nearly foolproof) and test the file so you're sure it plays in QuickTime and the iPod.
Next use the Movie Info window to add "Annotations". These can be things like changing the "title", adding copyright notices, artist names and dozens of other things.
Also set the movie "poster frame". This special frame shows as an image when, or if, you decide to use RSS feeds or Podcasts for the file.
Now that you've edited the file you need to save it. A "regular" Save may not preserve the fast start properties. Using "Save As" will restore the fast start feature.
Your viewers can either watch the file in the browser window or click on your other link and choose to save the file to their computer.

  • I have windows XP. I have a DVD that I was told was made in MOV. I have tried and tried to down load quicktime to play it, but all I can get is audio. It brings up the opening picture of the video then it stops there and plays the audio fine.

I have windows XP with 32bit. I have a DVD that I was told was make in MOV. file. I have down loaded and unloaded Quicktime several times and it is always the same. The audio plays fine, but the only video I get is the opening frame of the video and it stops there, but the audio goes ahead and plays?  Any ideas??

    It should play in QuickTime.
Try dragging the file from the mounted DVD to the desktop (it will copy). It may playback properly.

  • Quicktime Pro playing movies

I know that you go to file-open file and click on the DVD you want to play, but it will not open. I need to open a specific file
EX. I want to put Madagascar on my daughter's ipod. I go to "open file" and a bunch of folders come up. Then what do I click?

QuickTime is not a DVD player. You have other software to play or present a DVD on your computer.
To play "non Hollywood" DVD's one would purchase the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20).
Even with it you will not be able to "convert" your MPEG-2 files without third party software help.
Look for DVD "converters" or "rippers" but don't expect QT Player to help you make the conversion.

  • Trying to add a device, web site says I have an order pending and I can't add until completed ?

I'm trying to add a device and the web site says I can until the pending order is complete.. Yet I have no pending orders at least authorized  by me.. and the help and chat assistance is non-existence.. worrisome that there might be some kind of order pending with out my OK, and you can't chat with any reps about it... ..

Have a bigger problem than this pls advise if you can help..
    AT&T
I have a plan with them. And I'm upset With them (at&t)
So I'd like to switch (from them)
I've had AT&T since 1984 (though all there airtouch, cigular, etc)switches. they have no loyalty anymore.
There free upgrade, is 36 dollars (they lie a lot lately)..(free upgrade fee???) then there's the required data plan for the free upgrade etc. do you want to use the phone for phone calls ?? there's a free fee for that too...
So this is how I'm here poking around.
Verizon I have a mobile hotspot.. it used at times in Monterey, CA . by Lori.
My company gave me a Verizon Smart phone (removed). this is primarily for work. there plan.
I've been told I can use it at will, but it's still not to me a personal line.
With at&t I have 3 lines shared minutes etc, and home internet though uverse (at&t)
So I have a mixed bag I'd like to clear up to one low easily managed service.
I'd rather not incur additional cost trying to switch out all the phones etc
Like to keep current phone numbers.
The home internet (uverse) double my rate last month (end of promo) to 42 a month. not happy about that and am canceling that asap and returning there modem. I don't need much more than reading e-mail and such for my desktop computer, and netbook I use at wifi when needed (free hotspots etc).
my wireless (cell phones) 3 lines 1400 minutes runs 130 a month. I'm not using that much anymore as the company phones picking up all the business calls now.. (they drop the cellular reimbursement money from my paycheck).
the 1400 plan I had unlimited email no data free friends family (a list) grandfathered.
One phone is a Pantech breeze III (p2030) (removed) (think it's locked)
    #2 phone AT&T Z221  (removed)  (think it's locked)
my phone #3 is a sony-ericsson C905 (unlocked) bit it's having problems (slider open disconnect calls sometimes and static. Ok using Bluetooth closed slider) (removed).
So let me know if you can come up with a way to save me time and of course money.
I personally think I could share data off my existing account for my desktop here, as I'm mainly interested in doing e-mail on my home computer.
    Thanks mike

  • Quicktime pro 7.0.3 stutters playing .mp3 files

I really want to use quicktime to stream .mp3 radio stations. I like the clean interface that quicktime has. So, I try playing various radio stations I like (that work fine in Windows Media Player). They don't work!
Either the sound stutters when you open and close different application windows (when quicktime does play the .mp3 audio stream), or quicktime doesn't open up the .pls playlist. Try this one:
    http://www.somafm.com/indiepop.pls
Yeah, I know that I can use "safe mode" waveOut, but should that really be necessary? I have unchecked "play sound in foremost player" under sound settings, thinking maybe it had something to do with the different windows... same problems....
I am going back to Windows Media Player. I hope these problems are sorted out in the next version, and I haven't wasted my money....

Your machine does not have the video decompressor (thus the white screen) for that avi. Chances are that the audio is a non-standard format for avi files (variable bit rate mp3) and QT is sticking to standards. When you have the file open in QT Player (white screen and all) check MovieInfo (Command-I) to see what compressors were used. If it says DivX then try this freeware:

  • How Can i Transfer dvd movie files using quicktime pro

I bought quicktime pro under the impression that you can convert dvd movie files into ipod format if anybody has an answer please respond!!!!????

QuickTime Pro can't even view DVD formats without some help.
DVD's are "protected" with CSS software encryption and can't be viewed with the Pro version of QT.
Find some third party software (hundreds of apps) by looking and searching through the iPod Discussions pages.

  • Why doesn't Quicktime Pro work in Firefox 4.x?

I recently upgraded from Firefox 3.7 to 4.0.1 and have discovered that although the Quicktime plug-in works (meaning I can use Firefox to play Quicktime movies embedded in a web page), Quicktime "Pro" functionality is not working (meaning I can no longer save the movie to disc when I click on menu tab on the bottom right-hand corner of the movie, next to the control slider). This worked fine in Firefox 3.7. Does anyone know what the problem is? I'm using a Macbook Pro i5 running OS 10.6.4 with Quicktime 7.6.6. Thanks!

Finally figured it out the solution! (This only applies to Mac users.)
Firefox 3.x ran in 32-bit mode and Quicktime 7.x runs in 32-bit mode, so the two programs worked just fine together. The new Firefox 4.x, however, runs in 64-bit mode, so the 32-bt Quicktime 7.x plug-in no longer works correctly.
Luckily the fix is simple: just switch Firefox 4.x from 64-bit mode down to 32-bit mode. Here's how:
    [] Close Firefox 4.0
[] Highlight the Firefox icon in the Applications folder
[] Click COMMAND-i to open the Get Info window
[] Click on the box marked: OPEN IN 32-BIT MODE and close the window
    [] Launch Firefox
You can now save Quicktime files as before, assuming you have Quicktime Pro.
[] After closing Firefox, you can un-check the OPEN IN 32-BIT MODE box so Firefox will once again run in 64-bit mode.

  • HT3678 I purchased Quick time pro, went through the steps above. When I go to save the video save is grayed out and it says I need to purchase quicktime pro.

I purchased Quick time pro, went through the steps above to install.
When I go to save the video save is grayed out and it says I need to purchase quicktime pro.

Quicktime Pro will do full screen streaming videos that are compatible with Quicktime installed Codecs. If the video of the Olympics on the website has a specific URL to go straight to the video, then yes, you can call upon it with Quicktime Pro's player and then watch it fullscreen.
If the video of the Olympics was embedded such a way that you can't find the direct link to the video, then the limitation is how the webpage is designed. Thanks to Flip4Mac, there is now also a Windows Media codec you can install for Quicktime as well:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm
Although some video software like Elgato's EyeTV don't work with it yet. If you are using Elgato's software, don't download it, and rather download Windows Media Player for Mac OS X:
    http://tinyurl.com/26pxg
if the video is in Windows Media.
If the video is in Realplayer, click on the Realplayer Free button on the upper right corner of:
    http://www.real.com/player/?src=realaudio
You can enter a dummy address and password if you don't want Real's offers.
If it is still a question of not being able to determine the true link to the video, try using different Mac web browsers to see what result you get:

  • Quicktime Wont Play MPG Files

    Hi,
Just bought my first Mac - loving it. Only issue I have so far is that I have a load of video camera clips with an .mpg extension, which I copied onto an external drive when I had my PC. Now when I come to play these files, it comes up with "The movie xxxxxx.mpg can't be opened. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.
Wherever I look, it says Quicktime will play .mpg files, so I can't understand why they wont work. All the photo's on the same drive have gone into iPhoto no problem. When I go onto "tell me more" it starts going on about downloading additional media support. Not sure if I'm missing something simple!
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Darran.

Yea...I did this when I got my Mac for Christmas 2009. I can watch the videos no problem...WITHOUT SOUND! If I use VLC everything works right, but I want to be able to burn the videos to DVD to watch somewhere else too. I bought a Mac because this was supposed to be easier...NOT!
Thinking of going back to a PC. At least everyone knows they have issues.

  • Quicktime Pro on multiple macs

I have Final Cut Studio 4 on my iMac, so naturally I can use QuickTime Pro there. Useful little software it is QuickTime Pro. So, again, naturally, I want to use QuickTime Pro on my other laptop macs as well. However, I've tried copying the QuickTime Pro app from my iMac to my MacBook, didn't work. Tried copying the Library files even, didn't work either. So I ask myself, is it legal that I use the Quicktime Pro I got from a single licence Final Cut Studio on multiple computers in the first place? So, guys, is it why I can't get QuickTime Pro to any of my other macs?
Is the only way to solve this problem going to an Apple store and buy a standalone QuickTime Pro?

If I remember right you can have a copy FCP on two computers. One has to be a tower and the other a laptop. And only of those computers running FCP. Meaning you can't use both computers at the same time running FCP. And of course you both will have Quicktime Pro through FCP.
But you can't copy Quicktime Pro from computer to another...You can't have multiple (of the same copy) of Quicktime Pro on more than one computer.
Meaning you have to buy a Quicktime Pro key for each computer.
