QuickTime Pro recording Desktop, finder

I have a simple question, before I buy QuickTime Pro.
I need to be able to record everything that happens on my desktop, I need to do a few tutorials of different programs and want to record everything that takes place on my monitor.
Is this possible with QuickTime Pro. ??

There's a nice rundown of many of the current options posted here.

I enjoy using ScreenFlow.

  • Quicktime Pro recording video - dimensions presets

It appears that the QT Pro presets for recording video (all two options) depend in part on what maching you're using it on -
On my G5, the videos recorded are 320 X 240, which is fine for my purposes... but on my Powerbook (with which I'll be doing the actual recording), the videos are 240 X 180, which is too small for my purposes.
Has anyone discovered a way to change these settings? Or to "fool" QT Pro into thinking it's on a different machine so that it will allow for larger dimensions?
Failing that - any suggestions for other software to record 3-4 hour meetings using an iSight and a Powerbook? (I've tried BTV, but can't get the file size to quality ratio anywhere near as good as QT Pro, and BTV seems to create huge swap files or something that make several hours of recording impossible).

Thanks, QuickTimeKirk... I've got SnapzPro and gave it a shot, having it record the QT Pro record window (without having QT record, of course)... but one of the things I like about using QT Pro itself is that it appears to do the capture and the compression all at once -- i.e. no post-processing needed. This is ideal because the plan is to copy the movie to a USB thumb drive for the client at the end of the session; waiting for a 3 hour video to save and convert/compress won't work (hence something like iVezeen, while good, won't do).
Anyway, I have managed to change the dimensions via the .plist file that applies to my Powerbook. The next thing I want to try to change (if possible) is the framerate - it doesn't really need to be as high as it is for our purposes, and would cut down size (and processing cpu usage?) if I could reduce it to 15 or 20fps. I can't find that setting anywhere in the .plist files though.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Quicktime pro recording video playback too fast

I'm using Quicktime Pro to make a video recording with audio using the "Best" settings in the preferences (i.e. h264 encoding). When playing these videos back, the audio sounds good, but the video framerate seems almost x2 the speed as it should be. Below is the output of ffmpeg on one such movie. The output points to the fact that there's a problem with framerates, but I'm not really sure how to interpret it towards getting a solution. Any ideas on how to fix this so that we get audio video sync'd up and at the right speed?

    Hello,
I think it has something to do with audio settings in your camera.
There's a menu where you can choose 12bits audio or 16bits audio.
Change the setting and try again.

  • Quicktime Pro Record Webinar Audio

I'd like to record a webinar (audio) that I'm listening to Tomorrow night.. I've been searching the net for a program that can do this ? Can I do it with Quicktime Pro ?
Any helps or explanations would be most appreciated !!

QuickTime recordings can only be made from input devices and not from what plays through your speakers.
You need an audio capture software app like WireTap.

  • QuickTime Pro Video Capture

I cant seem to figure out how to capture video from a USB capture card to QuickTime Pro. I know I installed it correctly, but no video that is supposed to pop up ever did when i finished appling QuikTime Pro settings. I can barily tell a diference, and i need to know how to capture video to QuickTime Pro. Please let me know if a wasted my money.

Even the Mac version of QuickTime Pro can't capture "on screen" events. We use third party software for those tasks just like Windows users.
QuickTime Pro "Record" (New Video Recording - Mac only or New Audio Recording - Mac or PC) works with the built in devices found on a Mac (iSight camera) or external devices meeting the requirements (usually Firewire connection).
I use SnapzProX on my Mac (about $70) to record on screen events. Similar products for Windows sell for as little as $20.

  • Can you record a video from your desktop screen in HD with QuickTime Pro ?

I need to play a video on my computer and record it in the highest possible quality. I came across a program called CamStudio that says it can record your desktop in HD - so I wasnt sure if QuickTime Pro 7 can do that as well.
If someone is also familiar with what kind of computer or monitor i should play my video off of for best quality - i welcome answers to that as well.

QuickTime Player Pro can't record the screen.
QuickTime X can record the screen (but only all of it and not just a window). It's a part of Snow Leopard.

  • Hello, this might be a basic question, but how do you open QuickTime to record a new webinar? I have a new MacBook Pro with Yosemite and can only get QuickTime to appear in Finder but not actually open to allow me to record something new. Thx.

  • I can't find the screen recording in the QuickTime Pro I just bought and downloaded

    Hi everyone out there!
I just bought QuickTime Pro becuase I was told it had a simple to use screen recording then editing process.  I have a Windows 7 OS and would love to figure out where this feature is.
    Thanks!
    MsNerdyBlond

Mac version yes you can do this .... Windows version no you can't .... Of course you'd half expect mac version of QuickTime to be a little more function rich eh !? :)
Good news is that there's heaps of good free screen recorders for windows .... Try this

  • Copy Video From Sony VRD-MC3 DVD Recorder to Quicktime Pro

I burn short clips to DVD on my Sony VRD-MC3 burner. I then load it on my mac to convert over to quicktime pro so I can create clips and add to my movies. The DVD plays on my mac DVD player but I can't get it to open on my QT pro so I can convert to the necessary movie extensions. The Finder wont show any folders on the DVD. Can anyone help me with being able to load these files and then convert using quick time Pro?
    Thanks
    Skip

I found this info about the recorder in a Google search:
    Disk /dev/hdc: 250.0 GB, 250059350016 bytes
    Disk /dev/hdc: 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/hdc1 1 10 80000+ 83 Linux
    /dev/hdc2 10 20 80000+ 83 Linux
    /dev/hdc3 20 30402 244036536+ 83 Linux
Partitions 1 and 2 are ext2 filesystems storing the firmware files (locked up in a signed+encrypted cramfs image, so hacking will be hard). Partition 3 is encrypted xfs. Until someone cracks the encryption, no directory listing and no TS files (plus no guarantee that Sony is using TS files to store the content anyway). Breaking the encryption on any of this stuff may be tough since the manual acknowledges that they are using GNU Privacy Guard. On the other hand, since people have reported being able to update multiple units from the same Sony-provided USB flash drive, that would seem to indicate that the firmware isn't individually signed and encrypted for each unit, making it more significant if someone does manage to figure out the keys and signing scheme.
Sony does this kind of stuff all the time. It's similar to Macrovision protection on VHS tape recordings.
My guess is that the encryption is passed on to the DVD copy of the file which allows viewing but not any duplication or conversion.

  • Where is a Screen Recording in QuickTime Pro?

Where is a Screen Recording in QuickTime Pro?

Your signature says Mac OS X 10.5.8. I am not sure that QuickTime Player screen recording is available in 10.5.8. It may have started in 10.6.
If it works on your system, in QuickTime Player you will find these commands under the File menu:
    New Movie Recording
    New Audio Recording
    New Screen Recording
Edit: Oh, you're asking about QuickTime Pro. Not sure, sorry.

  • There is no option to record a video on my Quicktime PRO?

I have just downloaded Quick time PRO on my Windows Vista lap top and I need to create videos on it. When I had the basic Quicktime there was a option to video record if Quicktime PRO was purchased, now that I have it, I can not find it. I have an inbuilt camera on my laptop so maybe it hasn't registered it. What can I do to use Quicktime for video recording? Please help.
    Thanks

That function is only part of the Mac OS X version of QuickTime. Record the video from another application.

  • Quicktime Pro: poor record quality

I've been trying to record into Quicktime Pro from my DV camera and find the resulting picture quality to be really bad (audio is fine). It's so bad it's pretty unusable. Compared to recording into iMovie the comparison is huge. Even exporting from iMovie as an mp4 is considerably better.
Reading about the H264 codec I expected better, or has the codec got nothing to do with Quicktime's record feature? Maybe there's something I need to do that I'm not. Tried the various settings in preferences - doesn't help. Can anyone enlighten?
    Thanks.

This feature is basically a QT Pro 7 "after-thought." While performance has dramatically improved with each upgrade, you are still basically using a unstable, non-dedicated utility. Remember, when not using "Device Native," you are both capturing and converting "on-the-fly." If you want quality, use a dedicated application and reconvert as needed. If all you need is a simple capture utility, try Vidi (free).

  • How long will quicktime pro movie record for?

how long will quicktime pro movie record? i would like to record a 10+min onscreen movie clip. would like to find out before I purchase it. thanks. owen

how long will quicktime pro movie record?
That depends. How much free space do you have available on a single drive? Which compression format do you plan to use? How fast is your CPU. Barring the unexpected, QT 7 Pro will record until it runs out of scratch space. Frame rates are dependent on your CPU power which means newer, more powerful platforms record more frames per second and thus tend to have higher data rates up to the max standard for the system. Lastly, the compression format/device type/device capture size/graphic complexity combination also determines the average data rate. So, as long as the average data rate times the duration of the clip is less than the amount of free space available on your hard drive, you can record continuously.
i would like to record a 10+min onscreen movie clip.
If by "oncscreen" movie you are referring to a "screen capture" of a movie, the QT 7 Pro will not do this. You either need to use a third-party screen capture application or upgrade to Snow Leopard for QT X "screen capture" capabilities.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.
