Quicktime Pro software missing.

I have a .mov file I am unable to view in Quicktime Pro 7.1 for Windows.
When I try to run it, I get the following error:
Some Quick Time Software is missing... etc.
When I ask it to continue, it brings me to a Quicktime Components page.
Which one do I need? There are many to choose from and some just don't look like they relate.
Also, I cannot play this on my eMac running 10.4. Same thing.
Under movie properties, the Sound Track is WMA2 and the Video Track is WMV3. You'd figure a PC running XP Pro would have the necessary codecs?
Thanks for any insight to this.

The reason it may play on a Mac is that those users have installed http://flip4mac.com component which allows playback of WMP formats via QuickTime.
Flip4Mac is a Mac replacement of Windows Media Player for Mac. Microsoft no longer makes a Mac version of Media Player.
Is your Media Player version 9?
*Edit*
We were both typing at the same time.
Use the Mac that has Flip4Mac "Pro" to export as WMP file (.wmv) and it should work in Media Player.

  • Streaming and Delivery using Quicktime Pro software.

I was reading the tutorial about Streaming and Delivery with the Quicktime Pro software. I have questions around the steps that are listed to be taken in order to create a streaming video. Here are a list of the steps and the link to this website page.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/
    Streaming & Delivery
Interested in streaming content from your site? Learn how to do everything from preparing your media for streaming to setting up a live broadcast and even displaying your media right inside the web browser.
    1. Preparing to Deliver Streaming Media
    2. Hint Tracks
    3. Delivering Live Streaming Media
    4. Reference Movies
    5. Embedding QuickTime
The question I have is about step 2 Hint Tracks and what the tutorial says:
Movies that are intended for streaming via QuickTime Streaming Server must be hinted—that is, they need a hint track for every streamable media track. The hint tracks tell the server exactly how to package the media data for the network.
So these movies are not intended for streaming via Quicktime streaming server.. not even sure what this means but our server I believe is Windows 2000. So can I skip this part of setting up the video for streaming and just follow steps 1,3,4 and 5 or do I need to find someother way to do this?

QuickTime Pro only helps make .mov and .mp4 files ready for streaming. The files it creates must be served using special software.

  • Is it possible to transfer my downloaded QuickTime Pro software from my old computer to my new computer?

Is it possibile to transfer my downloaded QuickTime Pro software from my old computer to my new computer?  I don't want to buy it again if I can help it.

Open the QuickTime Player 7 app and look under the Edit menu / Preferences / Registration window to copy down the name, org and number.
Install the free player on the new machine and enter the registration info and test. If everything works as it should erase the registration info on the old machine.

  • Convert to .flv in Quicktime Pro - Option missing?

    Hello,
I need to convert my .mov files from FCP X to .flv (on my Mac 10.7.5).  I bought QuickTime 7 Pro for this, because I saw with my own eyes the flv export option, with choices of different video dimensions, on a friend's Mac. But in my QT Pro, this option is missing. He says he didn't add any components to get this.
Does anyone understand this, and know how I can get the FLV option? Is there a simple component to add? (I can not buy the whole Adobe package.)
Alternatively, any other suggestions of cheap/free, trustworthy video converters would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you!

I may very well be the case, as I don't recall that option when I was using MX 2004.  I can say that 12 handles video and video controllers beautifully.  If they have a demo of it, you may want to download it and give it a try for this feature alone.  It may only be a temporary fix, but you'll be pleased with the results.
When I used MX 04, I tended to use FFMPEGX to convert MOV files to FLV, but half the time I came up with those zero kb files like you.  Pre Flash 10, I found that if something wasn't exactly right, FFMPEGX would not do the trick.  The "export to FLV" option in Quicktime 7 Pro that comes with Flash 8 is really robust and has not once produced ill results, plus, it's remarkably fast.
I use FLV Converter for Mac at work... I dont' know how much it costs but it's ridiculously easy to use and the compression is fantastic.

  • Getting my quicktime pro to work?

This may seem like a simple question, yet I have been going back and forth trying to get it to work....
I purchased Quicktime PRO this morning to have it read mpeg-4's. I have gone through the instructions off of the Apple website to insert the registration number and checked it in the Quicktime preferences after restarting Quicktime, yet it still looks like all I have is Quicktime PLAYER. The registration numbers confirm that I should have Quicktime PRO software, yet I am still unable to open the mpeg-4 file and I have no new features vs. Quicktime PLAYER. Has anyone ever dealt with everything looking like it should work with the registration numbers, yet it not changing anything of the software? Do I need to download something else that I am not aware of?
    imac / powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You don't need the Pro upgrade to play most .mp4 files. The "free version" is all you need for playback. Unless...
The .mp4 files uses any of the Microsoft video codecs. Most are not MPEG -4 "compliant" and will only play on a PC or on a Mac that has installed the codec.
MPEG-4 files come in many "flavors". QuickTime follows most of the industry standards but Windows use their own implementation of the specs and proprietary video codecs.
If the words "Pro" have been removed from many menu options in the QuickTime Player app then your Pro upgrade was registered properly.

  • I Purchaced Quicktime Pro, But Have Not Received My Software Yet. HELP!

Since I have a PC, I don't visit the Apple website very often. However, I need to make Quicktime movies from Flash and After Effects.
Recently, I was offered an update for Quicktime (through a pop-up from Apple), and when I updated it, ALL of my Quicktime movies stopped working What a slimey way to make you buy new software!
So I went to the Apple website and purchased the new version of Quicktime Pro, hoping that this would resolve the issue. I couldn't figure out if Apple was going to mail me the software, or if I was supposed to download it from the website.
I have tried to read the support topics, and can't find this subject anywhere. It has been at least 2 weeks, and I haven't received anything from Apple, not from the internet and not in the snail mail. I sent an email to the company and have received NO REPLY!
I am very frustrated by this and wonder if Apple actually knows what it is doing? How do they expect to keep customers, if they have such terrible customer service?
Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to get my hands on the software that I purchased?

Someone else may correct me, but to the best of my knowledge, QuickTime cannot deal with any Flash format newer than Flash 5. Because of that, the more recent versions of QT have removed Flash support pretty much completely. So for a Flash 8 video, I believe you'll need some other conversion tool. But with luck someone else here with more solid knowledge about Flash and conversion will chime in.
As to the AfterEffects movies, what codecs (audio and video) were used and what precisely means "quit working". Will they not load, will they load but not play at all, or will they load and play but with problems?
And again, it will probably help people offer suggestions if you post what version of QuickTime you're using. If it says it's up to date, I would presume it's 7.5.5, but check the version in QuickTime Player to confirm.
    Regards.

I downloaded Quicktime Pro 7 to be able to record my screen.
The problem: there is no function "New Screen Recording" appearing!
    There are only these functions:
    New Player
    New Movie Recording
    New Audio Recording
    New Screen Recording ist missing!
    What can I do?
    Thx for help
    Christine

Wait what do you mean Q T 7 whats that
Classic version of QT based on a 32-bit structure embedded in the operating system as opposed to Apple's completely re-written version of QuickTime now under development using 64-bit embedded structures compatible with QT X Players v10.0, 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 on a Mac. Both players can be installed on and used by Snow Leopard and later operating systems which have dual QT structures embedded within Mac OS X. However, only the QT 7 player can be keyed for QT 7 "Pro" use and is the player about which the original poster here was asking.

You don't download QuickTime Pro. You download QuickTime 7 to a computer and apply a QuickTime Pro key to it.

You could try Handbrake, it works quite well.

  • How do I make Quicktime Pro my preferred playback software?

I use VLC Player and Quicktime Pro. Recently, however, I've needed to use Quicktime for streaming purposes - but VLC comes on almost immediately.
How can I make Quicktime my default or preferred player?

*Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind*
    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more. Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
    6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.

  • Quicktime Pro - missing movie controls in browser plugins

When viewing QT movies in my browsers, I have full functionality except that the control strip is replaced with a black bar. Buttons do behave (the volume slider even appears if I click where it should be) but they are not displayed.
This occurs in both Firefox 2.0.1 and IE 7. It happens with QT 7.1.3 and also happened with the previous version (7.0.2 I believe).
    My OS is WinXP x64
Mac Pro 2.66 Other OS Windows XP 64bit

Well... since the generic feedback form is the only other way to post any kind of information to Apple about QuickTime (incredibly short-sided for a paid "pro" product) we'll continue to post here regardless of whether it is "supported".
Quicktime Pro is an important part of my company's pipeline... which is also dependent on Windows 64bit (32bit just doesn't cut it for highly complex, high-resolution 3D rendering). There is no alternative.

  • Missing Quicktime Pro

I've used Quicktime Pro for 10-15 years now.  I'm running FCP Studio (7) and Logic Audio (9).  I noticed today when I went to adjust a frame ratio on a Quicktime movie (ProRes) ... that I no longer have Quicktime Pro on either my tower or my laptop.  All I have is the Quicktime Player.  For the last few years I've been using both, depending on the job requirement.  They were sitting there side by side.
I've done a couple of system upgrades in the last six months ... Leopard to Snow Leopard ...
I never trashed my Quicktime 'Pro'.
Would the system upgrades have trashed my Quicktime Pro automatically?  That would almost be a form of theft no?  Since I had paid for the 'Pro'.  I've actually purchased the Pro at least 2 or 3 times over the years.
What might have happened to my Quicktime Pro?
    All ears,
    Ben

Hi Niel, you're an ace ...
Thank you for that.  It was completely gone from the tower, but I found a copy on the laptop.  Which I just dragged to the tower ... and it's working fine.  You just saved me $30 and I'm much appreciative.
    All the best,
    Ben

  • Quicktime Pro 7 "Share" Option Missing

    Hi,
I just purchased Quicktime Pro 7 for Windows specifically so I could share QT files via email.
When I click on "File" according to what I've read there should be a "Share" option, but there isn't one.
Basically I'm trying to take 4GB or 8GB files and share them for review by clients.

Try this codec, Perian. It will replace the DivX and XviD codecs but not the Flip4Mac codec. You should remove both the DivX and XviD codecs. Then install the Perian component...repair permissions...restart your computer.
    http://perian.org/#detail
Hope this fixes your problem. This usually will fix problems with avi's. If not keep the Perian component installed. And we'll try something else.
If you have to come back for another fix. Open the question video in Quicktime, do a command+i to find out what the codec in the avi is...and report that in here.

  • Audio Recording Software. Quicktime Pro?

Good day to you. I'm just curious about something.
I've been looking for an cost-effective way to record audio on my PC.
Does QuickTime Pro allow you to record audio using a microphone that's plugged into your computer?
Oh, I should also mention I do not have an Apple computer. I run a custom built Win7 PC.
Thank you very much for your time and reponse!

Very cool. Thank you very much.
While I'm at it, I'm not planning on like a podcast or anything but, is there a good mic you would reccomend? If any? Or would any run of the mill Logitech headset w/ mic would be sufficient?
