Quicktime Pro upgrade

I have QT X on snow leopard. I don't get audio with screen capture. I wanted to uograde to QT Pro but I'm a little confused- QT Pro is v 7, and says it only works if you have QT 7, so how do I upgrade to Pro when I have X?

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".

  • Quicktime pro upgrade will not launch

Upgraded to pro about 6 weeks ago and followed the procedure for such. I can only launch QT player and QT Pro is "grayed out". I do have the code. Any help would be much appreciated.

Make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
Also make sure you purchased a key for the correct platform (Windows or Mac). QuickTime keys are not cross-platform.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgrading quicktime pro

I currently own an earlier version of quicktime pro for windows. I noticed that apple has now posted a new quicktime upgrade. If I upgrade, will I have to once again pay the $29 to unlock quicktime pro, or will my previous quicktime pro upgrade carry over into this latest version of quicktime?
    Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.3)

Although they have not announced a firm policy on it they in the past have required one to purchase a new Pro key when they do a whole number update to QT. If your present key is for QT 6 or earlier you will need to buy a new key but if you have a QT 7 Pro key it should be good until QT 8 is released.

  • Quicktime PRO (7.6.2)-Consequence of Snow Leopard upgrade to Quicktime X?

What exactly do I gain or loose if I go to Snow Leopard with Quicktime X compared to what I have today with Quicktime 7.6.2 PRO (I have Leopard and paid $30 for Apple's Quicktime Pro upgrade some time ago).

PS: Saw Foxone's post: I think that partially answers it but his situation is different what with extra plugins etc (it sounds like). I am looking for a simple summary for someone who is not all all a video expert nor a heavy quicktime user.

You lose the Preferences options from the main menu. There is a much nicer user interface with Quicktime X, but you lose several key concepts behind a video player. You'll notice videos do not start automatically when you want to watch them and open them! You have to press play (or spacebar) every single time...
Take a look at all of the Preferences options in QT7Pro and you'll notice most of them missing from QTX.

  • Using QuickTime Pro to convert a series of JPEG images into a QT movie?

Can I use QuickTime Pro to convert a series of JPEG images into a QT (uncompressed) movie? Thanks...
      Windows XP

    Yes.
One of the features of the QuickTime Pro upgrade is "Open Image Sequence". It imports your sequencially named (1.jpg, 2.jpg) liked sized images (any format that QT understands) and allows you to set a frame rate.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/slideshow.html
You can also adjust the frame rate by adding your image .mov file to any audio clip. Simply "copy" (Command-A to select all and then Command-C to copy) and switch to your audio track.
Select all and "Add to Selection & Scale". Open the Movie Properties window and "Extract" your new (longer or shorter) file and Save As.
As you've posted in the Mac Discussion pages but your profile says XP you'll need to subsitute Control key where I reference Command key.

  • Quicktime pro not loading/working

I purchased the key for quicktime pro, upgraded to qt7, entered my registration key and it shows pro in the box, but the box does not seem to go away, and then the pro options in the program don't allow me to press? I don't seem to have the pro version? Help

I pasted the number in and kicked out "invalid" unti I deleted the last letter and re-entered (I thought maybe there was a trailing space or something, maybe there was).
And my number is the same as on Mac OS side and couple years old (since QT 7 came out).

  • Extracting Audio from Video With QuickTime Pro?

I read on another discussion board that QuickTime Pro could record/extract audio only from a video file. So I purchased the QuickTime Pro upgrade today (for Windows XP) but can't seem to find out how to do it, assumimg that post was correct and it can be done at all.
The Nero video editing software I use can get the video file in MPEG-2, MPEG-1, AVI and other formats. I tried MPEG-1, but even the conversion to QuickTime's .mov format came up with no audio at all. I noticed a post here saying that was a limitation of the software. I could purchase the QuickTime MPEG-2 add-on but that seems to only allow playback and doesn't look like it will help any.
Another post on the other discussion board said that virtualdub.org has a software program that could do this extraction, but silly me I went with Apple and was delighted to read about the no refund policy just now. :-/
I'm guessing another possible approach is some kind of hardware solution -- a recording device of some sort?

In order to extract a track (video or audio) the file first must have those as independent tracks.
MPEG 1 and 2 are "muxed" (video and audio in the same track) so QuickTime Pro has nothing to extract.
MPEG Streamclip (free) can convert .mpg and .mpeg files to QuickTime formats.
If you export from Nero as .avi you can also use QuickTime Pro to extract tracks as it will have at least two.
MPEG 1 and 2 are playback formats and are not intended to be edited.

  • Bought Quicktime Pro - won't install !?!?

    Greetings,
I just purchased the Quicktime Pro upgrade. I already have this for my computer, but I am renting a Mac Laptop (Powerbook G4, 500MHz), OSx 10.4.9, Quicktime 7.1.6 for a presentation. My movie wouldn't play in their QT, so I figured it was something to do with not having Quicktime Pro. (The movie is in DVCPROHD720p compression). So, I figured I would just purchase the upgrade for the rented computer, I put in the key in the QT system preferences etc, but the movie still will not give me access to Pro features, and the movie will still not play. Any ideas ?!?
    Thanks, David Berry

Open up QT player>About QT player. Does it show the gray PRO sign on the blue Q?
Does the movie play on your other computer that is not rented?

  • Can't find my registration key for quicktime pro?

I have to go through a lot of searching in finding it under 2 accounts. It's just a lot easier getting it sent to me again rather trying to find it here where it should be easy to find, but not. It sure is not under my account history? Been like 5 or 6 years when I bought Quicktime Pro. But still should not make a difference in why it's not under account history. Can you please send me the registration code so I can have it registered on a new pc? Thanks.

This is a user to user forum: you aren't talking to Apple here and no-one on here can help you. I assume you've checked your back emails?
Apple's word on the subject says:
You can retrieve purchased registration keys with these steps:
    Visit the Apple Online Store.
Click "Account" in the upper-right corner.
On the "Your Account" page, click "View Order History".
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Additional Information
You can only retrieve a lost QuickTime Pro key if you purchased it through the Web. In most cases, the key will be identical to the key you lost.
If you purchased your QuickTime Pro upgrade from another source, the key is not available for retrieval and you must purchase another key from The Apple Store.
If you have already tried this and cannot find it, you can only contact the Store and ask them.

  • Quicktime pro is ridiculous

I have read throuigh many of these topics, and a lot of them contain problems similar to mine. However, none of the suggestions seem to work for me. Quicktime pro will not open most of my videos, and when they actually do open, and after I have waited over an hour for them to convert, they STILL wont go into my ipod. I never would have expected that a $30 program would be so useless and defective. I also cant play, let alone convert DVDs with quicktime pro. I am not interested in another program, becuase I have already paid an unrefundable $30 for this program. So if anyone has any other suggestions on how to make quicktime pro useful for converting videos, please tell me. Thanks.
      Windows XP

You've got a basic misunderstanding of "video" and "formats" and your displeasure with QuickTime Pro reflects this.
Think of video formats like fuel. Diesel, gasoline and "blends". A vehicle can only use the right format and sometimes can run on blended fuels.
QuickTime needs formats it can open and play before you can expect any export (conversion to iPod) to occur.
Consider Windows Media formats (.wmv or .asf) as diesel fuel. QuickTime can't "run" them. Consider the .avi "format" (it's not one) as a blended fuel. It's made up of a variety of mixes and some can be played with QuickTime and other times you need special "software" (codecs) that will adjust your QuickTime carburetor to allow playback and conversion.
QuickTime uses "gas" (and the dozens of different choices) to playback video files. It can easily convert dozens of file formats but you'll ruin the engine (crash your computer) if you feed it the wrong source.
I guarantee a proper export to your iPod if your start with the correct fuel.
QuickTime can even "help" you (Movie Info window) make the correct choice. If the file doesn't "play" you can view the codecs used in the file. Download and install them and try the file again.
Once you've grasped your error in assumption of what makes up a "video" you'll have no trouble getting your value from your QuickTime Pro upgrade.

  • On my Mac OSX 10.4.11,  having trouble upgrading to Quicktime Pro

On my Mac OSX 10.4.11, I  upgraded Quicktime 7.6.4 to Quicktime Pro. My problem is, when doing transitions in iMovie, I get the message to check the "enable flash checkbox under the Advanced Tab in Quicktime Preferences" . There is no such option offered under Preferences on my 10.4.11 Mac.

For iCloud, you need a version of iTunes 10, and 10.4.11 only supports up to 9.2.1.  10.4 offers no iCloud access, while 10.5 and 10.6 have limited access.  Only 10.7 and 10.8 are integrated with iCloud.

  • IChat bandwidth problem after upgrading to Quicktime Pro 7.1

I just updated Quicktime Pro 7.1 (from 7.0) and applied the Security update to my iMac G5 1.8 GHz.
My girlfriend and I have been chatting with no problems. She's running an new iMac Dual Core and I have an iMac G5 running 10.3.9. We tried to hook up tonight and kept getting this error:
2006-05-11 21:41:51 -0400: There is insufficient bandwidth to maintain the conference.
Detected 48 kbps upstream and 162 kbps downstream bandwidth; 50 kbps required.
We're both on Cinti Bell's Fuse/Zoomtown ADSL so we have plenty of bandwidth. Set iChat bandwidth to None and st Quicktime to 1.5 Mbps T1/internet/LAN.
Any ideas why, after a month of no problems chatting, this bandwidth issue has come up? She's running 4.5 (hasn't upgraded and hasn't sone the just rreleased security update)?

OK - My gal is here for the weekend so it will be next monday evening before we can toubleshoot as I don't know any other place where I can find someone to video chat with for testing purposes. We're using AIM accounts, but like I say, before the upgrade I did it was working fine. I've been through most of the 'usual' from rebuilding permissions, diskwarrior to ensure the disk is OK. Next week I'll trash preferences and such when we troubleshoot.
I appreciate the response. If I find anything out I'll update this thread.
