Quicktime Pro X - Screen Recordings denied by FCP

Can anyone confirm that Apple has blocked the use of "screen recordings" made using QuickTime Player 10.0 in FCP 7.0? I've tried importing screen recordings using both the Medium Quality Setting (Codec: Photo - JPEG) and the High Quality setting (Codec: H.264) and have received the same message each time:
File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.

Thanks Fraky. I think you're right. Here's what I found:
Just to see what happened, I went to the file "Get Info" panel and changed the default "Open with" program to FCP. When I then tried opening the file it gave me the message:
"Unsupported Frame Rate.
Final Cut Pro does not support this frame rate or the way it is represented."
I took your advice and tried bringing the file into Compressor(3.5). Compressor recognized the file and allowed me to encode it to a different codec. I tried a number of different codecs, and they all imported into FCP just fine.
Does anyone know what the default frame rate of the "Screen Recorded" movies are that can be made with QuickTime Player 10.0? I find it a little odd that FCP wouldn't recognize the frame rate. Whatever the default frame rate of those "scrren recodings" are, it must be something unconventional as I know that FCP recognizes a wide range of frame rates.

  • QuickTime 10.1 Screen Recordings are Blurry Once Imported into Premiere Pro CS6

I am doing some screen recordings on my Mac using QuickTime 10.1, but when I try to import them into Premiere Pro CS6, they are poor quality and blurry. It's difficult to read text and logos on the recordings are showing up fuzzy. Anything I can do to improve the quality with what I have? I'm trying to do a new site demo, so I'd like to have things appear more clearly. I am, however, by no means a video expert or Premiere Pro expert, so a lot of the output names and labels, I'm not familiar with. Is that what I'm doing wrong?

  • QuickTime 10.1 Screen Recordings Blurry Once Imported into Premiere Pro CS6

I am doing screen recordings with QuickTime 10.1 that appear to be of good quality until I import into Premiere Pro CS6 and then they display and export very poorly and very blurry to the point that you can't read the text on the page. Any suggestions to fix this problem?

    Hi Kristine,
Make sure that the clips are positioned on the X,Y axis as whole integers, not integers + decimal points. See if that works for you.

  • Quicktime Pro 7: Screen Recording is missing

    Hello
I downloaded Quicktime Pro 7 to be able to record my screen.
The problem: there is no function "New Screen Recording" appearing!
    There are only these functions:
    New Player
    New Movie Recording
    New Audio Recording
    New Screen Recording ist missing!
    What can I do?
    Thx for help
    Christine

Wait what do you mean Q T 7 whats that
Classic version of QT based on a 32-bit structure embedded in the operating system as opposed to Apple's completely re-written version of QuickTime now under development using 64-bit embedded structures compatible with QT X Players v10.0, 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 on a Mac. Both players can be installed on and used by Snow Leopard and later operating systems which have dual QT structures embedded within Mac OS X. However, only the QT 7 player can be keyed for QT 7 "Pro" use and is the player about which the original poster here was asking.

  • Quicktime Pro - Split Screen Question??

The help section says that you can edit a video to have a "split screen" - meaning that I can import a video into an existing video, and have them playing side by side (or one on top of the other). I have been able to do a picture in picture (however not playing at the same time) - but can't seem to find the correct instructions!
I am trying to show two athletes running the same 40-yard dash - comparing them either side by side, or with one video on top of the other - at the same time.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! (iMovie cannot do this!)
    Thanks!
    Kim

This is how I do it using iMovie 6:
Organize the video clips and/or stills that you want to superimpose on to your main video clip, by having these in separate, individual iMovie projects (no matter how small). It helps if these are in the exact length/time you want later.
Now start with the clip in your iMovie project on to which you want to superimpose one of more smaller video clips or stills. Lets call it Main Clip. Export this (share) to Quicktime Pro in DV (full quality). make sure it has the same aspect as before (Quicktime tends to default to 4:3. If you want 16:9, read on).
In Quicktime, with this project open, select File ~ Open File. Select the iMovie file (in your movies folder) of the first clip/still you want superimposed. This will open in its own QT window. Select Edit ~ copy. If it is a movie clip then select all ~ copy (or you will only get one frame!). Switch back to the Main Clip window, and click in the scroll bar where you want the extra clip/still to appear. Choose Edit ~ Add to Movie.
You can repeat this as many times as you like, if you want to build a 'Video Wall', i.e. have several superimposed clips/stills on the same Main Clip.
Do not worry that the new clip overlaps or covers up the Main Clip, at this stage.
Choose Window ~ Show Movie Properties. The Properties Dialogue appears.
You will see a list of video (and audio) tracks. Track one will be the Main Clip, track 2 your new added (superimposed) clip. Click track 2, then click visual settings. From the Scaled Size pop-op menu, choose percent. Then type 50 into the first box. If Preserve Aspect Ratio is turned on you won't need to type 50 into the second box. You have made the pasted footage appear at one quarter its original size. The inset is now hugging the top-left corner of the Main Clip. If you want, you can type numbers into the Offset Boxes to shove it away from that corner (there are 72 pixels to the inch).
If your original Main Clip was required in 16:9, unclick (de-select) Preserve Aspect Ratio, and type in the relevant numbers in the two boxes, in Video Track 1.
    PAL (for Europe):
    Standard DV (4:3) 788 x 576
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 1050 x 576
    NTSC (for the USA):
    Standard DV (4:3) 720 x 528
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 874 x 480
This will not affect video track 2, but if that is also wanted in 16:9 repeat for that track.
You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.
    Have fun!

  • Screen-recordings exporting seetings fcp 7

    Hi,
I've tried to export some screen-recordings I've recorded in screenflow and then edited through fcp, but when i get the output, the screen-recordings are very blurry and flickering..
how do I get the best output?
ps: (there are normal video clips between the screen-recordings, so it's not only screen-recordings)
thank you so much in advance !

You need to edit in dimensions that FCP works with. So even though you captured the full screen in Screenflow, you need to crop to 1920x1080, or 1280x720.
And then export to FCP codecs. Or just edit in Screenflow. that's what I do.

  • Quicktime Pro 7 Screen Green

Why do I get a green screen when I playback clips and movie trailers from the Apple site?

OMG!!  YOU'RE a genius!  Works PERFECTLY!!  Every QT movie I have plays perfectly - NOW - when I have the Graphics set to "Integrated Only".  If I switch to "Discrete Only" - they FAIL, meaning I see the green screen.  Switch back to "Integrated Only" they're perfect again.
Thank you Mike.  I don't know how you guys do this!  Just curiously, what exactly am I doing by switching?  I don't know anything about Graphics cards!  My MacBook Pro is about 1 1/2 years old, It's a 2.66Ghz Intel Core 7 with 8 gig RAM.  For Final Cut Pro X I changed it's configuration.  (You'd be proud of me!) I have a 120gig SSD drive AND moved the 'older' TB drive I swapped to to where the DVD drive is.  So I have no DVD but 2 HD in my Mac.  (I guess all that is irrelavent, though!)
I didn't even know I have 2 graphics cards in my Mac!
What's the downside to keeping it set to "Integrated Only"?  Can I leave it set to that?
Thanks very very much again.  These chat boards are just terrific!

  • Quicktime Pro Full Screen Mode

How do I control the Quicktime Video Player when it is in Full Screen mode? I can't Pause, Rewind, Fast-Forward, Play, etc.
Is there a way to do this?

I found out that this is part of 10.4.4

  • Screen recordings intended for FCP

Let's say for example I am doing a screen recording of a scene from a movie I like. The video source is HD and I want to save that screen recording in a format that is natively supported in FCP. What is a good format to choose in this scenario. Assuming I want to retain the same quality as the original.
And how bout the frame dimensions/pixel? Do they have to be precisely the same measurements as the fcp supported format?

Look in the FCP Easy Setup list. THOSE are your choices for codecs to render out of ScreenFlow with. If you want HD, then choose ProRes or ProRes LT...but know that you have to crop to 1920x1080 at least, or 1280x720.
BUT...why aren't you editing in Screenflow? That is what it is designed for. Editing within the app, to avoid having to export in an editing codec.

  • I had Quicktime Pro. Now it's simply gone.

Just this morning, I open Quicktime to make a quick movie recording, and I can't. Most of my options are grayed-out. It's as if I no longer have Pro anymore, which I had for a year and a half since I purchased by Macbook Pro. Poof, Pro is just gone. It's now standard Quicktime. Wth?
Could the last Apple update have something to do with this? Is Pro a subscription service and I simply never knew?
It should be noted that I had a new video card installed this week, although the hard drive remained untouched, and everything else is there as before the repair. I can't imagine this having any effect, but I mention it only because it's the only other possible factor I can think of.

Just to clarify for others. Quicktime pro doesn't come on new macs. You must buy the Pro registration number from the Apple Store. Andy your just mistaken...
On the other hand if you had the Apple Store preinstall FCP when you brought the computer you would have had Quicktime Pro from the get go. FCP automatically installs Quicktime Pro. There's not Pro key when installing FCP.
Open the System Preferences panel and then click on the Quicktime icon. Go o the Register tab and it should look this for FCP users (there is a Pro logo next to the Quicktime logo):
If so you have Qucktime Pro if not read below.
Now how do we get your Pro working again. The only way I see is to reinstall FCS. And I don't think you want to take the 2-3 hours to reinstall FCS. So, your best bet is to post over at the Final Cut Pro forum and ask there.
Footnote: Quicktime Pro can't edit MPEG-1 or 2 videos. The edit/export features will be grayed out for these formats.

  • Must purchase quicktime pro?

i have the new macbook pro. i made a short movie and compressed it for email in imovie. i sent it to another mac user. the reciever says she cannot view it unless she buys quicktime pro. her screen show a message saying she must buy quicktime pro. i am waiting on info about what version she has of quicktime and her operating system. this seems a little hardcore no? anyone have insight or experience with this, surely everyone does not have to upgrade to see imovies.

Actually the file can be encoded (QT Pro required) to use "Presentation" features. This allows any QuickTime (free) Player to view movies at full screen size.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/mycareerfuture/
I had to test the new javascript tags anyway.
It seems that a new M$ "security" feature involving ActiveX components go into effect today and my old object and embed tags are dead.
Lots of copy/pasting going on over my pitiful Texas dial-up.

  • Quicktime 7.2 Pro White screen on FCP HD files

I know others have had this problem but I didn't find any solutions that worked. The FCP HD quicktime files play fine on my powerbook G4, and on the G5 iMac in office but won't play on my Dual Intel 2.66ghz in office. Sometimes when it opens error says codec is missing. I have double checked that I have the AppleIntermediateCodec.component (Version 1.2) I downloaded the installer for quicktime and threw all my quicktime pref/app etc away and re-installed. Then upgraded to Pro again but still does not work.
I bought iLife 08 thinking it might re-install quicktime and get it to work, but the installer ran the update and QT still won't open HD video files. iMovie 08 won't import or open same files says same error, quicktime does not have right codec. FCP opens the files fine and I can view HD trailers in Safari.
    What do I do?????????
    Please help?????

The problem is QT 7.2 and has been known to be a problem since July 15.
There is no Apple approved method of reverting to QT 7.1.6
All you can do is to wipe you hard drive and start from scatch and only updating QT as far as QT 7.1.6
Archive and install will leave your FC Studio suite inoperable.
Reinstalling FC Studio will not help.
If you are a risk taker you can force install QT 7.1.6 using Pacifist.
See my post on how to do this.
I have done this without creating any problems.
Your milage may vary depending on your level of competence.
    • Force reinstall QT 7.1.6 - not perfect

  • Quicktime screen recording blurry in FCP X

I use both FCP 7 and FCP X but am making the permanent switch to FCP X.  I recently made a video in FCP 7 with screen recordings from Quicktime.  The quality looked perfect when I exported the finished video as an .mov.  However, I tried using the same clips in FCP X and found that the clips look blurry/low quality in the playback window and also when exported as an .mov.  I've played around with a few different export settings but none of them are resulting in a high resolution final product.  How do I get high quality screen recordings from Quicktime into Final Cut Pro X?  Should I be more scientific about the screen size/ratio than I needed to be in FCP 7?  Am I doing something wrong when importing the clips?

    That causes 'muddy' pics:
FCPX is basically meant for video = standards, e.g. 1080 or 720 ...
Screen-recordings, in 99% cases, are 'off'' those standard resolutions => 'un-even' scaling neccessary = loss of quality.
(plus, the harm added, to playback those files again in some 'uneven' scaling...)
    best-practice:
Use designated tools, as the widly recommended Screenfflow ...
    Plan B)
    … for the small budget:
learn how to create FCPX with custom resolutions ...

  • No video on Quicktime screen recordings

I've attempted to make several Quicktime screen recordings and I am not seeing any video.  I see only a green screen with my mouse cursor moving around on it (as I moved it when recording).  I have a screen recording app called Screenflick that is doing the same thing.

I have the same issue. At first I was very much excited about this feature! But after several successful screenshots I again ended up with green screen instead of real (cropped) screenshot clip.. (MacBook Pro Retina, Mac OS 10.8.4).

  • I made screen recordings through quicktime on mac and 6 of my 13 video did not turn into .mov files. How do I get them onto iMovie?

i need to put my put my quick time videos (screen recordings) onto iMovie and for some reason its not letting me. they are not even .mov files. whta do i do? i need it for tomorrow!

Yes, exactly (in fact I had that page on the Help Viewer open while I did it just in case I had skipped a step). Plus some other ways (like converting the clips to other formats, etc)
But I have made the video by using QuickTime Pro, by stitching the clips together. It isn't anything like I want but I can move on now and contemplate other ways to make this work (unless you or somebody else comes up with something!).
    Thank you again.
