Quicktime problem under safari

when i look at a live video from my camera in safari, quicktime is started to show the video, but refuses to show the video and tells me  that there is a codec in the video that quicktime can't understand..but does not say which one. the codecs are as far as i see:
H246 html5 codec VP8, MPEG4 and ADPMC G726 audio
i use the quicktime version 10.1  in Os X lion 10.7.4
with firefox it's the same, but there i see thet quicktime is negotiating for ever....so it does'nt work.
any idea what's missing in quicktime?

the problem is resolved :
i have installed Divx web video and it works

  • Quicktime problem in Safari

I am having a problem with viewing Quicktime movies in Safari. When I try to download I get a window saying that there is missing software that us unavailable from Quicktime, and a torn Quicktime icon appears in the play window. I think I must have a damaged or missing plugin or something. What are my options?

    Hi John
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
YouTube is Flash oriented. Sometimes the Flash settings in Quicktime are active, which blocks Adobe's Flash player from functioning properly creating the ? syndrome.
Go to your System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced panel. Enable Flash ought to be checked. Then, click on the Mime Settings button. Make sure nothing is selected in the Miscellaneous panel.
As you use an Intel machine, files using Windows Media Player will not play natively, as Microsoft no longer supports this player on the Mac platform. The alternative is to use the Flip4Mac plug-in. This converts the WMV file to a Quicktime format.
Once installed, a Flip4Mac preference panel will appear in System Preferences. Select it. In the Internet Plug-in panel, the 1st and 3rd boxes ought to be checked. In the Movies panel, the 1st box is checked.

  • Quicktime Problems With Safari

Ok I don't know what the heck i did or whatever hapend but every page on the internet in safari that uses quicktime now gives me the quicktime logo with a question mark in front of it when it didn't before. Anyone know what happend?

I was having the same problem, it was driving me nuts. Try going to this page:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1054143&#1054143
I followed the advice to drag the
    QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
file out of my Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins folder, and put it on the desktop. Quit and restarted Safari, went back to QuickTime, and this time it worked. Good luck!

  • Safari, view movies with QuickTime problems

Problem with quicktime plugin in safari.
    Safari dont play movies.

Thanks for the link to the film adaptation of Pullman's 'Northern Lights' trilogy - looks promising!
Sorry, back to the problem at hand:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above (but this has not been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Problem with quicktime again and Safari - part II

    1. Move this file onto your Desktop and then quit Safari (via File -> Quit) and restart Safari:
    Hard drive -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins -> QuickTimePlugin.webplugin
This was the solution some months ago for Quicktime stops working under Safari.
Now the "Quicktime symbol with the question mark" returned to Safari and I don´t have the "QuickTimePlugin.webplugin" file to trash. Just one called "QuickTime Plugin.plugin".
    Any help. please

I have both. BTW, for whatever reason, I posted the wrong link. Use http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923 AFAICT, the webplugin's no longer needed.

  • Problem with safari quicktime after firefox is opened...

i have firefox and safari on my computer. after running firefox the quicktime plugin for safari does not work. anything that uses quicktime to play in safari will not play. i have tried multiple websites and the result is the same. this is the 3rd time this has happened to me, usually i am able to reinstall quicktime and restart and it works, but this time nothing seems to be able to fix the problem. is there any way i can stop this from happening? and fix the current problem? thank you for your help

Did they resolve your issue? I have the same problem.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, I cannot play QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1.1, not even on Apple's own website?

Upgraded to Lion and now I cannot watch QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1.  Did not have this problem in Snow Leopard.  QuickTime videos do play in Firefox.  I cannot even play QuickTime videos on Apple's own website.  Any suggestions?  I'm using a Macbook Core 2 Duo.

    Hi Sami,
I have partially solved my problem.  I had software installed for a Twelve South BassJump (it improves the sound of your laptop speakers).  When I removed that software, I was able to play videos on Apple's website in Safari.  The company has beta software available from their website that is supposed to be Lion compatible but when I installed that the problem returned.  But even with that software removed I still cannot watch videos on some sites such as Other World Computing.
I just got a new Macbook Pro yesterday with Lion installed from Apple and all video plays fine.  So I believe there must be some compatibilty issues with some plug-in.  I have Perian and Flip4Mac installed.  I removed 3ivx and the problem still remains.  I've read conflicting opinions as to Perian being Lion compatible.
Everything works fine in Firefox at this point so at least I have that to fall back on.
Check your system preference pane under "other" and tell me if you have any of the plug-ins I mentioned installed.  Maybe we will be able to see a common culprit.
    Let's keep each other posted.
    Thanks,
    Chris in Ohio (USA)

  • New problem w/ Safari opening gifs

I am having a new problem with Safari that I didn't have a couple months ago. On a certain websites if I open an image of a product to make it bigger, instead of a larger image I now get a window opening with no image. Instead in the example below all I seem to get is an image 4x4 pixels (at least that is what the new window title says). This occurs with any browser I have tried in OS X including iCab, Opera, and Firefox. However, using OS 9 Classic (and Windows), all the browsers bring up the enlarged image perfectly. My current settings have Javascript on and popup windows are allowed. I can't figure out what is going on here. Any suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.
Here is a link to an example where at the bottom there are images to enlarge a watch:
    http://www.ireplicastore.com/BR01-97-Power-Reserve/SS-Casing-White-Dial.html

You don't need to disable your pop-up blocker. All the small images have is a link to a larger .jpg image on their server. I have no problem viewing them.
So, having said that and noted that you are also on a G5 and 10.4.11, I can suggest the following:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
The new RealPlayer Plus (v.11) is still in beta and therefore free, but works well on Tiger. It includes a download function, and you can get that here:
    http://uk.real.com/player/mac/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back.
    FOOTNOTE
    If you are running Leopard:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1

  • IWeb 3.0.4 problem under Lion X: Why are my movies unable to play after publishing web-site?

No problems with the above running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Under Lion, I can place movies during the edit phase, set up quicktime to autoplay, and test it and it plays.  After publishing the site, the movies do not play.  Sometimes a note saying that "a plugin is not available" appears in the movie window.  Could this be a Quicktime problem?  The movies were placed in iWeb using iTunes from the Media Display and are .m4v files edited in iMovie. The web-site works on iMacs running 10.6.8, and on PC's.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Thanks QTKirk. Tried the web site under firefox 5.0 and the movies played!  Not sure about the DivX extension for Safari.  There is something called 3ivx on my machine that has something to do with Mpeg.  Could you give me the steps to remove this from Safari, assuming that it is the extension you were talking about?  How would I see what extensions are in Safari?  I'm labeling your response with the correct answer to my problem because either way --- I can always use firefox if I can't get Safari straightened out.  Many thanks!

  • Why does flash no longer work in viewing SnagFilms or Hulu under Safari Browser but still works for Netflix.  And, where can I receive directions on how to install the PPAPI Plug In for Flash Player for Maverick 10.9.4.

Until recently, I was able to watch both SnagFilms and Hulu within the Safari Browser successfully.  In both movie sites, I no longer get video and am asked to download Adobe Flash Player (which I already have 14.0.0.125) but my system indicates that Plug-In PPADI has not been installed?  Where to go to find this correct download?  When consulting with SnagFilms and Hulu, it was recommended that I download and watch in the Chrome Browser, which is successful.  However, I don't like the idea that I must run a second browser to do stuff on my Mac.  I don't have any issues with watching films under Safari within Netflix.  I am so confused.  What about the security issues with respect to running google products--do I need to be concerned if this is the only method for accessing my movie sites.

The problem is that your Flash Player is not current. Check this to see what the current version is (vs what you have) and here to get the latest version. There is supposed to be a major security issue in the version you've got so Apple is blocking its use. In any case, don't get Flash Player from anywhere except Adobe.

  • Two Problems: 1) Safari/iTunes crashing 2) Beachball/Freeze

I got my MacBook just over two weeks ago. It has been plagued with two problems:
    1) Safari keeps crashing, on going to certain sites (I haven't found the pattern of the sites). iTunes crashes upon loading the music store.
    - It's not a plug-in problem. The problem occurs even with /Library/Internet Plug-Ins empty. Camino with all the plug-ins enabled does not crash.
    - It's a not a user-level problem. A brand new user account experiences the same problem.
    - I have done two clean installs over the last two weeks, so it's not a carry-over issue from my old machine.
    - It's not an isolated issue. There are threads in the Safari forum describing the same problem.
    - I have completely stopped using Safari for now in favor of Camino. I don't access iTunes Music Store anymore.
    2) The machine beachballs and freezes.
    - Command-option-escape doesn't work; neither does control-clicking on the dock icons for forcing quit.
    - The whole machine progressively locks up. Once the machine beachballs in one application, I begin to quit applications preemptively. I can do so with the first couple, but then I'm forced to shutdown the machine by holding down the power button.
    - Disk Utility verify/repair checks out. RAM test with memtest checks out. (1GB of RAM are Apple OEM.)
    - The freeze doesn't happen during memory- of CPU-intensive processes. In fact, it usually happens during most banal tasks (opening a finder window, saving a document, etc.)
    - The only patterns I've noticed are:
-- The beachball/freeze might be related to accessing an external usb hard drive.
-- The beachball/freeze is preceded by a series of
    Jun 20 17:14:17 MK-MBCD kernel[0]: (25355: ps)tfp: failed on 0:
    noted in the Console.
-- There is a separate issue of ongoing
    Jun 20 23:24:12 MK-MBCD kernel[0]: jnl: flushing fs disk buffer returned 0x5
noted in the Console, but I don't think this is related.
I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions on these two problems that have been keeping me from appreciating my new machine.

That was exactly my point. If you've done the clean install in number of times it must be hardware related. A number of the MB have problems with overheating because the thermal grease was over applied.
I doubt the Apple store will be able to correct your problem. If your machine is still under warranty, I would send it back to Apple headquarters and have them look at it. All laptops back in 2000, Apple required to be sent back to them. This means that certified Apple technicians were not allowed to operate on laptops. I believe it is still this way. Call Apple and inform them thank you have performed clean installations and still have problems.
Ask them what you should do. You should not have to pay anything. Let us know what you find out after calling them.
Have you updated your open firmware?

  • Vertical Scrolling problem in Safari

I'm currently having an odd vertical scrolling problem in Safari.  This issue is not reproduced in Chrome or Firefox.
I've been able to reproduce this issue doing something very simple:
I have a browser wide rectangle with a solid color.
Beneath that I have a browser wide photo.  (Rectangle set to browser edges and then fit to fill with photo.)
And beneath that I have another browser wide rectangle with a solid color.
    Then I scroll.
Once the photo (the middle element) reaches the top of the screen I have shut the scrolling off so the photo will stay static. (Initial motion 1 / Final motion 0 set in the "Fill/Scroll" tab - and the key position is set so it stops at the top of the browser.)  As expected, the lowest box continues to scroll upwards and cover the static photo.
This very simple effect is flawless in Preview mode, Chrome, and Firefox.
Yet in Safari, the photo, once it reaches its resting spot, does stay static, but seems to jump and jitter all over the place while I continue scrolling and the below content covers it.  (In the other browsers it's super solid like a real static background.)
I've read there are some parallax scrolling bugs in Safari Mavericks.  But I'm still in an older operating system using 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5.
Any suggestions or work arounds on how to correct this? (Again, I'm controlling the scroll using the scroll tab found with "Fill". Should I also be using the one found under Scroll Effects?  What the best one to use? Although it does work in the other browsers… so…  maybe I'm not doing anything wrong and this really is a Safari problem.)
    Thanks you.

    Hi
Please share the site url, I will have a look.

  • Quicktime Crashes in Safari Every Time!

Within the last couple of months, Quicktime crashes in Safari once the full file loads. Whether it's audio, like a podcast, or video, like a movie trailer, once it's done loading, Safari quits out. This happens every time I do this and it is extremely frustrating. Any ideas? From time-to-time iTunes will also crash when I load video.
    Any ideas?

What troubleshooting methods have you tried to resolve your issue?
Need this info to avoid the +"been there, done that"+ scenarios.
    Tried any of the following?
Repairing permissions from your HD & restarting and/or from your Tiger DVD
To fix a QT related problem w/Safari, quit Safari & look in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder (this is the Library folder at the root level of your HD, not the one inside your Users/user name folder).
Try removing the VLC Plugin.plugin (if you have it) & *QuickTime Plugin.webplugin files from this folder, & then relaunch Safari. If the problem isn’t fixed, a different plug-in may be to blame. Keep removing files from this folder (start with any third-party plug-ins that are present) until the problem disappears.
Replace the plug-ins that don’t cause any problems.

    Rosetta
If you have an Intel-based Mac, running Safari in Rosetta can also resolve some QT plug-in issues.
First quit the app if it’s open & then, in your Applications folder, select Safari & press Command+I.
In the General area of the Safari Info dialog that appears (click the disclosure triangle if this area is not already expanded), select Open Using Rosetta, & then close the Safari Info dialog.
    Relaunch Safari.
If none of the above works, please provide the following info: Which QT version are you using?
Which Safari version are you using?
