Quicktime problems in PP CS5 when using CS4 projects

I need Quicktime, because I must play and render 32 bit portable files; mov is the only format that can do that. (no sequences please)
But when I install Quicktime, I can't use any CS4 projects containing TGA sequences and the interface becomes unpredictable and sluggish.
Is there a solution for this problem?

I can't say for sure but you might try doing a test. Run one of those targa sequences through AE and convert to something more QT friendly. See if that speeds things up.

QuickTime Content Does Not Load When Using Safari

For the past week or so, I've noticed that when using Safari, any QuickTime content fails to display, but instead, the QuickTime logo is displayed with a question mark in the center. That would indicate to me that Safari is not seeing that QuickTime is installed, but of course, it is. I tried actually reinstalling QuickTime, but that did not resolve the issue.
Again, this has only started in the last week or so. I'm new to the MAC world, so my troubleshooting skills are more limited with OSX. I also have Firefox installed, and QuickTime content opens as normal when using Firefox.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have had the same problem for some time now. As well as this problem, some QT movies load into QT but the sound does not play.
This all started when I loaded various other players such as VLC to run Windows Media Player stuff before Flip 4 Mac became universal. I have tried dumping prefs, turning off plug ins and a dozen other things between QT and Safari, including resetting Safarai and losing all my log ins etc.
Nothing runs on say www.youtube.com We just get the big Q with a question mark over it. The keynote address released yesterday does not play with sound.
I suggest we all look back and list what we did/installed just before the problem started and then we can compare and look for a common element.
As to checking "block pop ups" I never had that on to begin with.
We need to see if the problem is in Safari or Quicktime - or both. There are too many variables at the moment to narrow down the problem.
Our other iMac which is identical does NOT have the problem - because I didn't try to load any other software on to it.

Problems w/ race conditions when using attachmovie

   I'm having a strange problem w/ race conditions when using attachmovie.
I have a class linked to a movie clip that I'm attaching to the stage.   The class is
fired off when the movie clip is attached but also other classes are getting loaded at the same time
while the movie clips is attached.     Even though the other classes are called after the
movieclip is attached, they are getting loaded faster and therefor the class linked to the attached movie clip
cannot access their functions.
I'm looking for a listener that will fire off an event ONLY when the attached movieclip is fully loaded but I can't
seem to find any examples of associating a listener to a attachmovie method.
Any ideas?

flash is single threaded so nothing happens simultaneously. what do you mean by, "other classes are getting loaded at the same timewhile the movie clips is attached"

Freeze Frame Duration Selection Is Incorrect When Using PAL Projects ?

I have done a search of the FCE and FCP forums but can find no information. This was originally posted in the FCP forum but is equally applicable to FCE.
Over here in Europe an apparent bug has been noticed connected with FCP 5.1 and FCE 3.5 (which is based on it) when using PAL projects.
To begin with, the default Freeze Frame time in the User Preferences is 12 seconds yet when stills appear in the Browser they are the normal 10 seconds.
If the duration in the Preferences is altered, the actual time of the picture in the Browser or Timeline is always five sixths of the time set.
This curiously is the same figure you get if you compare NTSC and PAL frame rates. PAL has five sixths the number of fps as NTSC.
So if in the preferences I set 6 seconds, I get 5 seconds in the Browser. Three seconds gives an actual time of around two and a half seconds and so on.
I must stress that it is only FCP 5.1 and FCE 3.5 that appear to be affected.
Earlier versions eg. FCE 1.0.1 and FCE 3.0 behave perfectly.
We don't know the situation with FCP 6 as we have not yet had the opportunity to test it.
You can replicate the problem by altering your Easy Setup to DV-PAL and look at the Freeze Frame Duration in the preferences.
Then import a photo into the Browser.
Alter the duration in the preferences and import another photo.
I am sure you will see that there is a large discrepancy between the chosen duration and the actual.
Is this a known problem and is there a simple way around it ?

CORRECTION !
It has been pointed out that the Freeze Frames are NOT affected by this bug - only the IMPORTED STILL PICTURES.
Incidentally, for any PAL user whose maths is not too good (like mine), here is a table of corrections:-
Freeze Frame Discrepancy.
From Final Cut Pro 5.1 and Final Cut Express 3.5 onwards there is a bug that makes the chosen Freeze Frame time WHEN IMPORTING STILL PICTURES differ from the actual time when using PAL settings.
This table tells you what time (in seconds and frames) to set your preferences in order to achieve an actual time:-

Media offline (but not first clip) when import cs4 project to cs5

I've several clips in a cs4 project. All original clips, all from the same footage, are in the proper folder. When I imported the project into my fresh cs5 install, the first clip shows up properly -- video and audio are present -- but the rest in the sequence show "media offline." When I search for the clip and select it to be linked, I'm informed that "The selected files do not contain audio media used by clip references in one or more sequences." Clicking yes then gives me a clip in the project resources and timeline windows with no sound.
This makes no sense, since all clips are from the same source footage. If the first clip in the sequence is fine, what's the problem? Thanks for your help.

I figured out what has happened. The clips were all from same original source, but somehow some had audio coded in mp2, others in mp3. The first clip was mp3 and Premiere CS5 version spotted that codec. For some reason PCS5 is not spotting the mp2 codec, while CS4 could, which is why I didn't have this problem back then.
The initial "media offline" message is terribly misleading, and the audio problem message is not specific enough. I'll try to get CS5 to use the mp2 codec CS4 worked with.

Just to confuse things more, It's worth noting that the mp2 clips show up in Bridge cs5 and the audio plays fine there. What's with Premiere Pro? Irritating.

Exception thrown in destructor CS5 when using "UNDO" command

Hi,
I'm assisting my professor with a class helping students build an online portfolio. Yesterday, one of the students sent me a bunch of .fla files to review and I made some changes, inserted a bunch of comments in the code and told her to change the rest of her files into the same format. (Adding keyframes, frame labels and button codes, etc.)
Then she emailed me to tell me that she keeps getting this error message every times she makes a mistake and tries to "undo" something.
"Every time I open up the drawing page and another one of my subpages like logo design for example, I work on what you said to do, but if i make a mistake and undo it, I get this error message and all my images disappear completely from the time line. I have attached a screenshot of the error message, maybe you know whats going on but I'll keep working on it and try to not have to undo something because at the moment that seems to be the problem. I have to close flash and reopen everything to make it go away."

This problem didn't happen until after I modified her files on my computer and returned them to her.
I am using a Mac version of CS5 and she is using WIndows version. CS4 has never been used with these files.
I only modified one of the three files this is happining to. I deleted a bunch of stuff from the stage and a bunch of stuff from the library that wasn't needed in this file (the header, navigation, and background were all moved into a main file) then I modified the timeline to have a few thumbnails link to different frames to display a larger image. Then I added the actionscript and gave her instructions to do the same with the other two files.
She sent me the files buy uploading them to her account at box.net and after downloading and modifying the files, I zipped the folder and uploaded the zip file using afp to my sites folder on my school server and gave her the link so she could download them (Way to big to email).
I read the thread out there about this but it seems it's related to using CS4 or saving, which this is neither. I would really appreciate any help on this and if it's a bug maybe what is causing it. I'm sure it's related to me taking and modifying them and sending them back, but I suppouse it's possible it's not. I am going to give her the link to this thread and have her update any system updates for Flash. We will probably revert to the old copies, but I'd like to know what caused this to prevent it from happening again.

As for your student machine, since it is happening to the files after editing there are a few things we can try.
You can delete user configuration folder and preferences files.
1. Quit Flash if you have it running.
2. Delete your user configuration folder:
    Window XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local   Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash<version>
    Window Vista & Window 7-   C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash<version>
    Mac - Volume/Users/<username>/Library/Application   Support/Adobe/Flash<version>
3. Follow instruction from the following link to recreate your preferences files:

4. Reboot your machine.
5. Launch Flash and see if you are still seeing this issue.

Try converting to .mp3. You will almost always get some loss when converting one compressed format to another. It shouldn't be that noticeable though.
What bit rate are your .wma files?

Problems with USB device when using WindowsNT

Hi,
my problem is that I want to use a simulator which can only be connected with USB to the computer.
I used the VISA Driver Development Wizard as discribed in this link (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/6792BAB18242082786256DD7006B6416) and it didn't work.
I'm using Windows NT and VISA 3.1 and I read that it isn't possible to create a USB connection with VISA when using Windows NT. So my questions
1) is this right
2) Has someone a idea what I can do? I tried to use VISA USB Control and this also didn't work.
I hope I discribed my problem detailed enough. It's my first post.

As you can see in this table, USB is not supported by VISA under NT:

I would recommend to use Win2000 or XP. Using one of these OSes you could use this turorial to create your VISA-driver:

If it is not posssible to change the OS, you have to look for other ways of programming your usb-device. Check the web or the Microsoft site for help concerning Windows SDK and USB.

Orange mail software problem when using distribution lists : some lists cannot be used for writing e-mails. The problem does not exist when using Internet Explo

When writing an e-mail directly on the Orange e-mail service (not on Thunderbird) I am facing the following problem : some distribution lists cannot be used to complete the adressees. The same lists can be used without difficulty if I use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. The Orange hotline told me that probably my Firefox version was not updated. Unfortunately I checked that, and apparently the automatic updating works. I have also updated the plug ins, without any result.

Please could you specify which webpage you mean ?
The process with Orange is the following :
- 1. click on "Write an e-mail" on the mail webpage
- 2. click on "To" to reach the Contacts which opens a new window
- 3. click on "Distribution lists"
- 4. click on the selected list then click on "add". The list appears ot the box corresponding to the addresses .
UNTIL THEN EVERYTHING WORKS WELL
- 5. click on the button "validate", which closes the window previously opened and normally
- 6. reloads the initial page with the complete list on the line "To". Instead of that I get the last e-mail address I previously used .
Question : at which step of this process should I try your suggestions ? I tried when the initial page was reloaded with the wrong address, but it did not work to get back the rignt distribution list;
Note that the whole process functions with OTHER Distribution lists. The only difference is that the problematic one has a larger number of adresses (62) however inferior to the maximum indicated by Orange (100).
I also remind that there is no problem when using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.

Problem exporting to excel when using embedded web templates through WAD

Using web templates designed with WAD, we are experiencing an issue when trying to export excel when using embedded web templates.
We have set up tabstrips within our templates that load other templates (embedded into the global template).
Upon right clicking on any query and choosing "Export to Excel", any query that is in one of the tabs using the embedded web template item does not show up. Any queries in natively in the global web template will export and show up fine.
Any thoughts on how to enable something like this, or workarounds to make this work? We decided to split up these templates for performance reasons and can't go back from that decision. Also let me know if you need a better explanation of what we're trying to do.

Hi SDBI,
Is this in place of loading a new template per tab? We are using container layouts in all of our templates so we can link things into tabstrips as well, we have just split up some templates to be embedded into tabs for performance reasons and data locking.
Also when exporting, we are looking for all of the items displayed at that time to be exported, however only the items from the global template show up, not all of the displayed queries. For example, anything outside of the tabstrip will export perfectly, but since the query embedded into the template the tabstrip is loading is not part of the native web template, it does not show up.
Seems like a tool limitation to me when embedding templates?

I have problems typing certain characters when using gmail or online forums. Can someone help?

When I try to use an apostrophe, when using online forums or my email (all in safari), a white bar appears at the bottom of the screen displaying the punctuation mark but it will not allow me to use it. Any idea how I can fix this?

Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
No data will be lost.

CS5 not opening CS4 project

This is the message that I get when I try to open a project created in PPro CS4 in CS5.
"This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview present file or codec could be associated wiht this sequence type."
It shows all of the media loading at the bottom and confoming of files but then send me back to the welcome screen after I close the message.
Any suggestions on why CS5 is not playing nice with my CS4 projects?

Sounds logical but I completely turned off the firewall, restarted the computer, and still no luck.
By the way, as a preemptive strike against the posts that will ask me about being an old computer or having a ton of weird codecs - the computer was just built, everything is very clean and CS4 runs like a charm.
Any other suggestions?

Footage changes when converting CS4 project to CC project

I have many CS4 projects that I have converted to CC.
Some of these CS4 projects had footage defined as a subset of images in a folder. For example:
Animation_[00000-00089].png = "C:\example\Animation_00000.png" through "C:\example\Animation_00089.png"
where the folder C:\example contains 500 images (Animation_00000.png through Animation00499.png)
After converting to CC, the new projects now have the footage defined as ALL of the images in the folder. So instead of this (CS4):
Animation_[00000-00089].png = "C:\example\Animation_00000.png" through "C:\example\Animation_00089.png"
I now have this (CC):
Animation_[00000-00499].png = "C:\example\Animation_00000.png" through "C:\example\Animation_00499.png"
Does anyone know a way around this (apart from manually replacing the footage in every project)?
Alternatively, is there an AEGP API I can use to determine what subset of the footage is used in a given layer (I'm exporting the footage via an AEGP plugin)?

I wouldn't really mess with tweaking keyframes this way and that or knowing which keyframe gets deleted: there's too great a danger that the track would be off. I'd just start over from scratch with the 23.976 footage in a 23.976 comp.
Fortunately, you've already done it once, so the process should go a lot more quickly.... and it really should take all that long, period. It would take a lot longer to try and fix the error than it would take to do it properly.

Project Owner not mapping when using Create Project in Ideation Custom list

I have a custom ideation list in Project Online used for project proposals. When using the Create Project function in the ribbon, I select the mapping from my Project Owner people picker field to map to Project Owner ID. The Project is then created successfully,
however the Project Owner is listed as the person who clicked the Create Project button in the ribbon, not the name in the Project Owner field. This also occurs when running from SPD workflow. I know in on-premise situation this works as I expect ... is this
a bug in Project Online?

Just wanted to say that, I was able to reproduce your issue. It works as expected on-prem, but not as online. I will update once I have more info on any posisble resolution.
