QuickTime Quality on iWeb

I posted this question on the iWeb discussion forum, but realize that maybe this forum may be better.
I created a movie on iMovie 06 using photos from my iPhoto library. I then exported it to iWeb, and posted the movie on the website. When I started the export to iWeb, it asked if I wanted to render, and I said yes.
Now when watching the movie on the web, the quality is lousy during the transitions, which sometimes last the time of the entire clip.
The picture is really distorted as it comes into view. I also should mention that the problem seems worse with pictures that have the Ken Burns efect.
If anyone has any advice on how to eliminate this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. I think that maybe shortening the transitions may help, but I'm not sure.
Thanks in advance.
Russell

Would it be possible to post a URL so the file, codec, and settings can be more extensively evaluated?

  • How do I improve movie quality in iWeb

    I have iWeb version 1.1.2
    Is there a way for me to post better quality movies? Currently, I use the "Share:iWeb" function in iMovie version 6.0.3. This compresses my movie to 12fps, 320 X 240, with medium stereo sound.
    I'm looking for quality similar to the Apple commercials or movie trailers that can be viewed on the Apple website. These movies are very clear and load quickly. How do I accomplish this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Compression should be considered an art form and there are dozens of variables that can make a bad file look good (and vice versa).
    The first goal of compression is to make the smallest file size as practical for the intended device. Web based movies would require some experimentation in your exports. Make at least three versions and compare them visually so you learn the best combination of audio and video codecs.
    Another simple method is to learn a little bit of html and javascript coding. It's just "plain" text files that make up the rules for your Web display. In many cases your can just edit a few lines of code to have your 320X240 file play at 480X360 dimension.
    Once you learn more about your QuickTime exports (and what works best for your files) you'll have a better understanding of all the issues.
    iWeb version 2 includes a "QuickTime Inspector" that can do some neat tricks not found in iWeb 1. You may want to move up to iLife 08.
    Upgrade to QuickTime Pro and create Web pages and files like these:

  • Optimizing Quicktime Movies for iWeb 08- HOW?

    Hello,
    Question about converting a movie I made for my web site uploading to my .Mac account - using iWeb 08.
    When the full quality movie is open in Quicktime Pro, and you click on export for web, you get this info box saying this:
    In the same folder as this instructional HTML file, QuickTime Pro has placed various versions of your movie optimized for web-delivery. Also in that folder is a reference movie, which selects the best version for your users' various devices and connection speeds. By including this reference movie in your HTML page, you can ensure a quality video experience on your site.
    THEN IT GOES ON TO SAY...
    Use the following HTML code to embed your movie into your web page.
    Important Notes:
    •To make your media viewable on the internet, your media assets (movies, poster image) must be placed on a publicly accessable server.
    •The URL parameters must be modified if your media assets are served from a different location than your web page.
    •The movie URL parameters must always point to the reference movie (Fluid-Cam Test.mov) rather than a source movie.
    •The reference movie must be kept in the same folder as the source movies.
    •Source movie names cannot be changed, but you can change the name of the reference movie (remember to change it in the HTML code as well).
    •Please note, to properly validate as XHTML, the <style> tag and the first <script> tag should be placed within your page's <head> tag.
    •Use this code in the <head> of your web page:
    (AND THEN THERE IS A BUNCH OF CODE AFTER ALL THIS- WHICH I DIDN'T BOTHER TO TYPE HERE OF COURSE)
    There are no instructions (that I can find) explaining where this code goes, which optimizes your movie for various formats. You can't drag and drop this whole folder into an iWeb Movie page.
    So where do you copy and paste this code in iWeb, that Quicktime creates from your movie?
    Any input is appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Best way I know is to put the movie into Iphoto, select it, go to "share" and choose to iweb. It will go straight to a new page in iweb which you can rename and include in your site.

  • Uploading Quicktime Movies to iWeb

    I've exported a photo slideshow with music to Quicktime movie format, but even though I've selected the small size file, when I try to upload it to iWeb, I get a message saying that the file's too big. I can't figure out how to make it any smaller, and it already looks to me like the quality is compromised -- the pictures are blurry in the smaller file size, and I'd like people to be able to view it in a larger window. Suggestions? Thanks!

    Just because iWeb says your file is too big does mean that you can't use it. It just means that it will take longer to download for the end user.
    The file size selected as being "too big" is arbitrary. It really all depends on the speed of the internet connection used to download the file.
    The best thing to do is publish it and see for yourself if it takes too long to download.
    One of the things you can do is to put a text introduction on the same page for viewers to read while the movie downloads. As long as people have something to hold their attention they will wait a bit longer.

  • Quicktime Export for iWeb

    Last year I ran Quicktime Pro and flip4mac to open a WMV file and export it to a small format that I could quickly place in iWeb.
    I tried it this year using the new QuickTime...and I don't see an export option.
    I tried "save as" and "Save for web" option but could not figure out where to go from there.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    If by "new QuickTime", you are referring to QuickTime X Player in Snow Leopard, you will need to use QuickTime 7 Player, which should be in your Applications/Utilities folder if you installed SL as an upgrade to your 10.5 installation. QuickTime X Player does not, at least at this time, have much in the way of export options.

  • Nobody can watch my quicktime movie in iweb!!

    I made two movies in iMovie and imported them directly into iWeb. I can watch them on my website and so can the apple tech people, but most importantly my professor cannot! I am the only one using a mac for this class - does anyone know if this could be a glitch between PC/mac? Or has anyone else had this kind of trouble with Quicktime 7.0.4???
    I'm frantic cuz it's for my final that was due on Friday!!!! TIA
    Vicki

    It could be that you are using the latest and greatest video codec called H.264 to encode your movies and your professor's PC doesn't have the latest version of QuickTime 7 to be able to decode the movie. This usually results in a blank white movie frame with audio.
    Two choices depending on which might be easier given your individual situation... Get your prof to upgrade his QuickTime player to the latest from Apple... or ... reencode your movie with anything other than H.264 if you know how to do that. Good luck!

  • Aperture 3 quicktime slideshow on iweb

    Hi - I am trying to use aperture 3 slideshows on iweb instead of flash but the quality is lacking - the sharm movie files are over 30mb so when compressed to around 10mb loses image quality
    see here : http://web.me.com/ruperteden/casasnaareia (click on image)
    the movies are slow to load on Firefox and do not load at all using Google Chrome ?
    Does anybody have a solution to increase image quality keeping files small enough ?
    Steve Jobs if you are reading this please can you come up with a solution quickly or I will have to revert back to Adobe Flash which like you I hate using !
    Thanks in advance !

    On the page it says :
    Put a texbox with a unique word on the page.
    Then add a HTML Snippet.
    The HTML Snippet has this code :
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var bodyLoad = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0];
    load = bodyLoad.getAttribute("onLoad");
    bodyLoad.setAttribute("onLoad", load + "function(){VideoJS.setup();}");
    var headID = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0];
    var newScript = parent.document.createElement('script');
    newScript.type = 'text/javascript';
    newScript.src = 'zencoder/zencoder.js';
    headID.appendChild(newScript);
    // -->
    </script>
    This is the page iWeb creates from the HTML Snippet.
    http://www.wyodor.net/Demo/html5//HTML5_Zencoder_files/widget1markup.html
    Here's the zencoder.js file :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/html5/zencoder/zencoder.js
    It adds extra HTML code :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/html5/zencoder/video-js.css
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/html5/zencoder/video.js
    and then displays this file :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/html5/zencoder/index.html
    The page has all the code to display .m4v, .ogg, .webm and flash.
    In the end the textbox is behind the movie. I only needed it to find the location on the page (the top left corner) to display the video.

  • Quicktime quality worse under snow leopard

    hi does anyone know why the picture quality appears to be more grainy in the new quicktime on snow leopard , it was like this in leopard much sharper and overall better quality

    Recently upgraded from OS X 10.5 to Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and am finding that both Quicktime Pro 7 and QT Player X save movies EXTREMELY slowly - like a factor of ten slower than before.  Can't find anything about this, but it can't be right - it's really unusable.
    Are you "saving" or "exporting/sharing" the content? (I.e., what are the containers, audio and video compression formats, and dimensions of both your source and output files?)

  • Quicktime – quality issue with uncompressed export

    Hi
    Not sure if anyone can help with this one.
    I'm trying to export a Quicktime video in uncompressed 4.2.2 format from Flash. In quality terms this works perfectly from Flash 8 as I just select the uncompressed option, put the quality slider to best and the result is super sharp. Problem is I have movie clips placed in my movie and they don't render. I upgrade to Flash CS4 which solves the latter issue but it won't let me set quality to best when exporting for Quicktime in uncompressed 4.2.2 format. It defaults to medium quality and the resulting video is slightly blurred. How do I get back control of the quality when exporting uncompressed?
    Thanks in advance for any pointers.

    I too have been using the code supplied on the apple quicktime forums, and the same results have occured video is converted but no audio. I also have a mac mini running quicktime 7 and have used the exact java code and it works with audio.
    If you try to convert the audio portion of a movie on windows to say AAC audio only, you'll get another error saying that the track is invalid. Yet on mac mini same files and code produces the file perfectly.
    My Windows Platform is WindowsXP running Quicktime 6.5.2 and JDK 1.4.2
    Mac Mini is Mac OSX Tiger, Quicktime 7.0.1 and JDK 1.4.2
    I eagerly await Quicktime 7 for Windows, maybe it will work then.

  • Quicktime VR in iWeb

    On line iWeb help says, "Note: You can add a QuickTime VR movie... the additional controls will display when you publish your site."
    Except, it doesn't.
    Takes the time to load, it just doesn't run, or work.
    Has anyone successfully added a QT VR with iWeb?

    Please compare your page with a .qtvr movie (which works for me) to this one:
    http://web.mac.com/orzewalla/iWeb/Test/Movie.html
    which does not work.
    The original file works just fine. The odd thing is, with your site, I can look at the .js file referenced in the source, find the link to the .qtvr file named ToadsLairVR.qtvr, download it, and it plays. But if I download the .qtvr file from my site, Quicktime complains: "The file is not a movie file." It seems strange that I can break the file by round tripping the file through iWeb onto the website and back onto my desktop. The filesize remains 2.2 MB (2,292,184 bytes to be specific).
    I also notice, when opening the info panel for the original and round tripped files, the original file contains movie info: Dimensions, Codecs, and Duration. This info does not exist after round tripping the file.
    Is it possible the software used to generate the VR file attaches an obsolete resource fork to the file, which gets lost when uploaded to a server?
    Like I stated in an adjacent thread, I used ArcSoft PanoramaMaker 3 to make the file.

  • Quicktime streaming in iWeb

    Ok, there probably is an answer for this question somewhere in this forum, I just haven't found it yet. I have a hosted website that I made in iWeb. I have a few quicktime movies embedded, 20 and 40 megs in size. When i use Safari or Firefox to view the site, it has to load the entire movie before beginning to play, which is a bit annoying, especially in Safari as there is no progress bar to indicate how much has been loaded. I want it to start playing as soon as enough data has been buffered and I want the progress bar in the embedded movie to be immediately visible, like when you watch a trailer at apple.com/trailers. Is there a way to do this?

    I want it to start playing as soon as enough data has been buffered and I want the progress bar in the embedded movie to be immediately visible, like when you watch a trailer at apple.com/trailers. Is there a way to do this?Either set the "Fast Start" option during conversion or use the "Save As..." option to save your movie in the MOV file container which also simultaneously sets the "Fast Start" option. (Latter workflow may be the better approach since the MOV file is probably the most easily recognized container by servers.)

  • Quicktime playback in iWeb

    Hi,

  • Decayed Quicktime loops on iWeb

    Hello,
    I use a short mp3 sound loop (340kb, autoplay) on my website. It's well truncated and plays excellently on Logic Express, but when it's shown online, you can hear a short break when it jumps from the end to the beginning.
    It appears that iWeb or Quicktime need some ms to play the file in cycle mode. That's really a problem, because there's also a drum beat in it - can anyone help ?
    I have an HTML optimizer and a direct HTML editor as well, if that's any advantage.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Welcome to the discussions st_malo.
    I've had video clips that loop fairly seamlessly, so I'm sure it's possible for audio as well. Usually what I have to do is progressively shave seconds off the end until the beats line up. If you've got QuickTime Pro, you can do the editing and test the looping playback right in QTP.

  • Photo Quality on iWeb

    Why do my images on iWeb look shinny when they look fine in iPhoto? On some computers the image looks better than on my MacBook Pro. I am using doteasy as my host company. Any thoughts?

    What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? Also give us a screenshot of what they look like outside of iWeb.
    Do you have iWeb's preference set to optimize photos on import?
    Click to view full size
    If so uncheck it, import the image again, publish and check.
