Quicktime refuses to run and install

I have quicktime version 7.13 and iTunes version 7.0.2.16
When i try and run quicktime, nothing happens! No process appears, nothing! Whenever i try and run a page that requires a quicktime plugin, opera or internet explorer 7 will crash and windows asks me if i wish to send an error report. When i try and run iTunes, i am given the same message. If i try and uninstall Quicktime, i get the message "fatal error during installation".
If anyone can help me with this, i would be very grateful!!!
Cheers

I would check to see if there is software that can be downloaded to the PC from the manufacturer. I am assuming your device is a "plug and play" device. The manufacturer might still have the device drivers for install on their website.
Installing the drivers manually should alleviate the problem
Otherwise, you can make the changes in Group Policy to solve the problem

  • Firefox drop down not allowing page redirect is preventing me from auto running and installing software

When I try to install software, Firefox window opens with a drop down box stating Firefox is not allowing page to re-direct. I click on allow, and it goes back to original page. It is preventing me from auto run and installing software. I tried several times, and it just runs me in circles. When I click to allow page re-direct, I click auto run and it send me right back to Firefox page with same thing. Very frustrating.

When do you get this redirect?

  • ITunes + Quicktime won't run after install

I did an automatic upgrade to ITunes verson 8 from 7. After the upgrade, neither iTunes nor Quicktime would work. I then proceeded to do a complete uninstall of both items, to include deleting all directories and cleaning the registery so I could complete a fresh install of both items. After the fresh install, iTunes would work IF (and only if) it was started by the installation script. If I try to start iTunes after the installation, windows pops a window that says "Please wait while Windows configues iTunes," after which it prompts to restart the PC. This happens EVERY time. That is, iTunes will run ONE TIME correctly when it's started by the installation process at the conclusion of a fresh install, but it will not run again. Each time I get the windows message.
Quicktime will not run at all. It gives the error message "Error 41: Could not load or find the QuickTime ActiveX control." However, I can open the Quicktime preferences from the Control Panel.
I get no errors or any indications that the installation process had problems or that the items did not install correctly.
    I'm running 32-bit Vista with SP1.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Bump to top.

  • I have downloaded the two files needed for the upgrade of Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 to version 12 but I cannot open them to make them run and install. What am I supposed to do. One is a very large .7z file just over 1gb in size.

How do I open  up a .7z file just over 1gb in size? I have just downloaded this as an upgrade from Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 to version 12. I cannot see any sign of the Akamai program on my computer that is supposed to open and install the two files that I downloaded.

    Thanks Hans
I don’t mind mountain climbing but anything serious to do with a computer scares me silly.
I installed the 64 bit version of 7zip and once I figured out how to tell the computer to use the right application within that to open the 7zip file, the big file opened and I was able to apply the .exe file to get things going and installed. In the end the default location the installation chose was program files x86 which I think is the 32 bit folder but it all seems to be ok now.
Many thanks again for your response.
    Cheers

    Hi, Irish,
Try using CCleaner (that stands for "crap" cleaner) to do a good uninstall of QT. Go to ccleaner.com.
Then install the standalone version 7.0.3 of QT. Do not install version 7.0.4 if you're using XP.
    Good luck!
    Tom.

  • How to erase and install new os

    Hello All,
I want to do an erase and install on my computer and then upgrade the operating system to Mavericks.
I purchased a new external harddrive where I will backup my files, music, pictures, etc prior to the erase.
I have the original hard disc copy of my operating system when I purchased the computer. I also have all of the software discs to reinstall them.
I have a couple of concerns/questions - We have 4 ipods in the house and an ipad...what will happen when we resync them? Will iTunes think it is assigned to another account and cause me issues?
Also, 3 of us a currently using the computer as 1 user. How do I set up the computer for 3 users? Would we have separate iTunes accounts, iPhoto accounts, etc by having 3 users instead on1?
    I need help.
    Thanks,
    Robert

Boot from the 10.6.X upgrade disc you have, erase the HD using Disk Utility. Next download and install the 10.6.8 update combo and install it. Next run and install all suggested updates from Software Update. Finally open the Mac App Store, download and install Mavericks.

  • Premiere crashes, running and previewing slowly

    Hi all
Any help with this is greatly appreciated, I understand it's a very broad subject covering Media encoder and After Effects as well as Premiere, but hey.
    System info
Running Adobe CS6 and have run and installed updates today.
    Windows 7
    Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU  920@ 2.67 ghz 2.67 ghz
    Ram 12gb
    64 bit OS
Projects all sit on a raid drive, Gspeed eS - 5.5 TB
I have 20 gb free on my computer drive, where program files are kept and 85 gb free on a separate media cache drive.
I edit AVCHD files mostly, and add in AE comps which can be anything from simple and complex vector based animations or screencasts and modified footage.
9GB of ram is available for the Adobe applications, which I've set in the AME preferences. Often it only will use/share 6gb between applications but I believe that is all it's capable of using.
I always have the mini preview windows set to off, try and 'empty media disk cache' in AE as often as possible.. Some other parts that may need noting are that I use CPU not GPU in AE, no box is ticked in AE multi processing section and I think thats it.
I've tried to set all settings to keep everything running as smooth as possible, yet I'm finding I have unresponsive programs, laggy play back and seem to be forever waiting around for the computer to render, or to find files when they are 'media pending'. But I have to wait for what seems like way too long, or if I manually link things to help it along it will just crash! After effects had a melt down and crashed and deleted the project that was open at the time of the crash, all I was doing was trying to preview a screen cast that had some time re mapping?!
I'm currently exporting a 3 minute sequence with clips and linked comps of manipulated screencasts and it's taking over 1 hour to export. This is just extreme! I try not to multi task, and close everything off as much as possible while working. (I use chrome and that always opens 10 things in task manager) Initially when I sent this project to AME, it went across and said ready in the status section, so I waited a little and then closed premiere, so that as few apps were open as possible, premiere decided it wasn't responsive so would have to force quite so I did that, and then the project wouldnt render in AME after that had happend so I had to re send the project. If I ever go direct to send projects from AME the progress bar just goes on forever and can never manage to get anywhere to even start to think about loading a project in that way.
No matter what I do I just seem to have a computer that's spending a lot of time thinking and doing nothing! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
p.s The file I spoke about earlier has now encoded, but the time bar says 6s left and will not move onto the next sequence. I really do need some help!

    Hi Jim
Thanks for replying. This is really tricky, I have no idea how to fix it. I'm upgrading my set up soon but it does almost seem like it's the adobe products not functioning, not the actual PC entirely.
    Very strange!

  • App Store indicates "download" when Lion already purchased and installed

Under "Purchases" in the App Store Lion is indicated as requiring to be downloaded when it should be labelled as installed as it is already installed and "Updates" indicates that "All aps are up to date".  Any ideas what is going on and whether this will cause problems moving to Mountain Lion ?

Disclaimer - For me the Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture very different from that found in most 1st world nations, such as that in the two dominant North American countries. Written language has no tone. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
I believe that what you are seeing is that the MAS is not detecting the Lion Installer in your apps folder. The installer self-deletes after it has run and installed Lion. The MAS is giving you the opportunity to download it again. It can be ignored.

  • How to uninstall QT 7.1.5 and install previous version

Can someone advise how to uninstall new version of QuickTime 7.1.5 and install a previous version (7.1.3). The new version seems to have issues (I have software that no longer plays back video... and was working fine before new version).
    Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Problems with QT 7.1.5 are not limited to Turbo Tax or to particular versions of OSX. If you read the website Macfixit, you will find that many people with many different programmes and system versions are having serious problems with this update of QT, including a stall on the update itself. I phoned tech services in Canada under my AppleCare programme and reached them this morning (March 11) and the technician I spoke with had NO KNOWLEDGE of the many many problems with this updater. I told him that APPLE should immediately remove it from circulation until it is fixed. He said he would report it but he was not enthusiastic nor did he sound overly concerned so I don't know that he will. I also asked for advice about uninstalling 7.1.5 and the only sure thing he could recommend was to re-install the entire system. Not a satisfactory option. But if you are interested, go to Macfixit.com and look for their document on uninstalling it. But as for APPLE, I suggest that everyone having problems after installing 7.1.5 OR with the downloading itself phone APPLE and demand that they pull 7.1.5 from circulation AND provide us, on their website, with their instructions about uninstalling it. This kind of negligence has become too typical of APPLE of late - not the old style APPLe that I came to love and depend upon - and only if we demand more responsibility from them do we have any hope of things changing for the better.

  • Installed recent Windows updates and now iTunes refuses to run

I installed the most recent Windows 7 updates:
    - Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2467174)
    - Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
    - Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2467175)
Ever since then, I have been unable to open iTunes. It will start up the iTunes process and before the window even comes up it quits. I have tried following some of the guides on the "Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues" folder in the iTunes Support section of the iTunes website. I've tried the msconfig thing but no luck. From what I see, there's nothing else that's changed with my computer other than the updates.
I really have no idea what to do. Can anyone help?

Also, seems like Quicktime isn't running. I didn't get an error message either.
many thanks! That suggests a possibility that would also be consistent with this cropping up after those particular updates.
In recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files. (Those sorts of applications often use the Visual C++ runtimes to keep track of the componentry, so it seems consistent that an update to those could cause the symptoms to flare up on a PC.)
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit Windows 7, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit Windows 7, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
