Quicktime render location

Heres my problem. I have two internal hard drives. One I use as a scratch drive, the other I keep my system and applications on it. Currently I am trying to export fairly large family videos through quicktime 7 into a smaller format for backup (H.264 at 9mbps). The only problem is, whenever I save these videos, they render in my system hard drive before exporting to my scratch drive. So commonly my system disk will fill up before the export is complete and my scratch drive is untouches. Can anyone help me with this problem? Could I possibly switch render disks for quicktime?

Have you tried a lower bitrate? 9 mbps is a higher bitrate than DVD's. Doubtful you need that for H.264. If these are DV videos converting to QT/H.264 is not a great way to backup if you plan to re-edit - output them back to a fresh tape in real time.

  • AE CC and the Rest of Adobe Apps - ProRes Quicktime Render Gamma Problem Back AGAIN

    Hi ---
With this version I am back to square one with AE NOT being able to render out correct gamma exporting to PR4444 -
Scenario (And this matter NOT whether I use Color Management or Not)
    1) I open a Clip in AE or PPRO (In this case a TIFF Sequence RAW'ed from Lightroom)
    2) I switch back and forth between Lightroom and AE and the images are identical in color and gamma
    3) I export to PR4444 and open in Quicktime Player or FCPx and the Gamma is off.
    4) If I re-import the exported file into AE - AE reads the file with a diff. gamma and the result appears to be identical with source
But it is no good that the result only looks the way it was intended in AE ! --- The poeople on the web are not viewing the movie in AE but with other players.
If i open that same tiff sequence in the quicktime player pro and export to PR4444 the results are 100% identical.
I find it highly frustrating that a company so higly regarded with so amazing software is NOT able to render out an image correctly...
This problem has been around since forever and I find it higly disturbing that this issue has not yet been addressed.
As of now I have no choice that to ditch AE and PPRO.... I WANT the images I work with to look the way they do in the app while color grading... What point is there in CG'ing images to perfection
if adobe cant even render out the results....
As I stated it does NOT matter whether I am color managing or not... Results are lighter in gamma when viewed in anything else than AE or PPRO !!!!!!
The amount to correct back is approx. a gamma of 0.9
BTW --- When in 32 bit how come I cannot set a gamma of 0.905 why is the gamma limited to two digits after the comma... 32 bit has MUCH more to offer !!!!

    Thanks Todd,
I have tried those tips before. Unfortunately, I haven't had great success with them in this case.
When I reserve the 16GB of RAM for other apps and RAM preview a comp containing multiple Prores 4444 footage layers, it plays back and retains the cache as expected. However, the 2nd RAM preview of another comp in the same project containing multiple Prores 4444 footage layers stays stuck in "Initializing Background Processes." A check with Activity Monitor usually shows aeselflink processes that are hung up.
This has been my experience until I came upon the work-around of precomping Prores files.
To demonstrate, here's a screen shot of the stuck process with the memory settings I used -
I rebooted the system and tried 2 more times with the same result.
If I simply precomp the Prores 4444 footage layers as demonstrated in the video, I get smooth RAM preview caching and performance. This works even if I allocated less RAM to other applications in the Memory and Multiprocessing preferences (hence the 6GB setting from earlier). With the work-around, AE runs smooth with no hiccups and RAM previews behave as expected.

  • Quicktime render errors-output module fails

    Hi everyone,
I'm having more and more trouble lately rendering out a simple uncompressed (codec = none) 1280x720 or 1920 x 1080 Quicktime.
This used to be my standard output format, ready for further encoding.
But now almost every render to uncompressed Quicktime stops at a random moment and give me the "Output failed" error message.
What the heck changed when going from CS6 to CC ??????  Anyone experience anything similar?

  • Error After effects quicktime Render

    Hello
I am facing a problem rendering in After Effects CS5.
    This is my computer :
    - Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    - Processor: Intel Xeon E5 2660 V2 - 20CPU
    - 32GB Ram
    - CG: Nvidia GTX 780 TI
    My problem:
I'm working on a movie with a green screen sequences in .mov, animation codec. When I start rendering, it runs for a few pictures and then the error:
Error made in the background. Rendering in the foreground will be activated after 229 images out of 486 (26 § 142)
    After Effects (Error) Error (4) when reading image from file D: \ ****** \ Sequences \ TV_Sequence-3a6.mov. (86 § 2)
After Effects (error): Keylight out of memory. (4) (25 § 241)
I tried a lot of manipulation:
    - Checking "using the OpenGL" and it works but the rendering time is multiplied by 10 if not more.
    - By changing the format of the green screen sequences (wmv, mp4, avi) and it works. So it's really a .mov problematic.
    - By activating or not, the hyperthreading and it crashes.
    - By testing a render without movie inside the comp and it works
So I think it comes from Quicktime and the number of processor cores, but how to solve this problem? : s
I already check this link : troubleshooting QuickTime errors with After Effects CS5, CS5.5, CS6, and CC | After Effects region of interest  but it doesn't works
    Thank you for your help
    (sorry for my english)

    The QuickTime version is 7.7.5.
With my old machine, it worked perfectly.
I can make a render in .mov (animation, h.264, etc ) with no .mov in my comp but if there is, after effects gives me an error ...
    Thanks for your reply

  • QuickTime Error Code

When I deleted QuickTime the first time off my computer I had to install QuickTime 7.0 for my New IPod Nano. Well long story short When I run QuickTime it is saying that ( I have an error:-2093.) Does anybody have a clue what that is?
As well as when I tried to download QuickTimeInstaller.exe I got this error.
Windows Installer Help (msi.chm) or MSDN Error:-2093\
I need serious help. If anybody can help me out, that would be greatly appreciated.

Ok Im going to explain these errors to you guys. And tell you how to fix the error's of
    Error:-2093
    Error:-1409
Also Error know as can not open key:HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Unistall\QuickTime because you do not have permission to access this program.
First of all the problem is with QuickTime not your computer. QuickTime has this problem with not registering the program with your computer. So you have to go to your registry keys and do it yourself. Here is how you do that.
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Run
    3. Type in "regedit" without the quotes.
    4. Double Click on HKEYLOCALMACHINE.
    5. Double Click on Software
    6. Double Click on Microsoft
    7. Double Click on Windows
    8. Double Click on CurrentVersion
    9. Double Click on Unistall
    10. Double Click on QuickTime.
Ok now you found where your QuickTime is located in your registry keys. Now what you have to do is right click on QuickTime and select permissions. Set your persmissions to your account and the administrators account. After you have set your permissions to your accounts. Reinstall the stand alone version of QuickTime 7.0.2. It should work. If you are having more problems with this situation let me know with an email and I will walk you threw this one on one. Hope this helps you out. Good Luck!

  • QuickTime - Save Export Settings -  script help needed

Currently I am using Panther 10.3.9 - with QT PRO 7.02 - ( I do not want to
upgrade to Tiger at this time unfortunately)...
    * MY GOAL: to be able to save export preferences in QuickTime pro.
Since QuickTime does not seem to be able to save export presets... I
downloaded the the script collection from
    From: Scriptable Applications: Quicktime Player
    Location: http://www.apple.com/applescript/quicktime/
and created export settings and tried ....
    Save Export Settings.scpt
... but the file that got saved will not open in QT PRO - OSX and wants to
    open something from old os9....
    what do I do?

    = = = (see scripts below)
    * here is my basic workflow ...
    - load a QuickTime movie
    - adjust the QuickTime movie export settings
    - save a test copy ( validating the settings)
    - run the "save export settings.scpt" with name "set1test"
    Then
    - open and run the "Export QuickTime movie.scpt" with the name " test movie"
    - run the new test movie - and when I check info - it does NOT reflect the desired settings...
    = = =
One issue is - this line...
export movie 1 to new_file as QuickTime movie using settings "set1test"
... It doesn't seem to care what the settings file name is - and if I change that name to a nonexistent name - it still exports the movie without an error.... Therefore it leads me to believe that it's not using it to begin with....
    - another issue is that the settings file "set1test" says it is the kind = "QuickTime settings document" - however it has a blank icon in the Finder - and there does not seem to be any way to open the file with QuickTime 7.02 - and it can to open something classic mode when I double click on it.
    = = = the Save settings script...
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    activate
    try
if not (exists movie 1) then error "No movies are open."
    stop every movie
set the target_file to choose file name with prompt "name & location for the QT settings file:"
save export settings movie 1 for QuickTime movie to target_file with replacing
    end try
    end tell
    === the Export QuickTime movie.scpt
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    activate
    try
if not (exists movie 1) then error "No movies are open."
    stop every movie
    set the movie_name to "mytest.mov"
if (can export movie 1 as QuickTime movie) is true then
    set the new_file to ¬
choose file name with prompt "Enter a name:" default name movie_name
export movie 1 to new_file as QuickTime movie using settings "set1test"
    end if
    end try
    end tell

  • After Effects CS5: final render different than the preview

    Hi all,
    I have a problem I cannot find a solution.
I am making an animated route on a map. My map is a 2D map and I travel along the route in 3D. The preview looks good to me but as soon as I try to make a render the result is completely strange: the camera moves are completely different!
I checked the parameters of my composition and the ones of the rendering and they look exactly the same.
Would you know from where comes the problem? My video is 860*480 and the map is 15000*15000 big. Could it be an explanation to the problem? Can I solve it in a way?
    Many thanks for your answer!
If needed I can make some screenshots of the render and the preview to show you the difference.
    Swiggen

Hi Mylenium and thank you for your quick answer.
Please find attached some screenshots with the comparison with Quicktime render.
I also would like to add that RAM previews are fine (means in accordance with the timeline and the overview) but any kind of renders (final or pre-render) make such mistakes.
Thanks again for your kind help and if needed, I can provide you more information (my aep file?).

  • Cannot remove older version of quicktime

I need to remove quicktime to upgrade Itunes or quicktime cannot locate quicktime.msi file to remove to update. Please Help!!

cannot locate quicktime.msi file to remove to update.
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Disappearing layers in Final render

I have a layer of video that keeps diappearing from my final render. It doesn't disappear completly. Looks to be down to about 1% opacity. Only happens in my final quicktime render. Plays and looks fine in my comp and ram previews. All my other comps which are pretty much duplicates except swapping out 2 layers work just fine as well.
First image is my ram preview with the camera pushing past her. How it is supposed to look. Second is what actually renders out. It hits that frame right as the camera moves and she disappears. Layer order and z-position is not the issue. Any help is much appreciated.

Are you sure that you are previewing the Active Camera in the Comp?
If so then a screenshot of the entire timeline would be of much more use than these frame grabs.

  • Losing render files when i move off of FCP

I keep losing my render files when I switch timelines or move to another program. What's going on?

Check where your render files are set to. This may be a non-existant location so that they are not actually being saved to discl. Go and re-set the render file location and physically re-select teh drive and directory location. Ive seen this before and although at first glance the render location looked ok, when you actually re-set it to a drive/directory it started really saving the render the files and all was well.

  • Can't render,  can't save project - under deadline!

I am working a project that has been going swimmingly for days. Suddenly it's all gone downhill on the day it is supposed to be submitted.
Here are the pieces of the puzzle that I have found so far:
    1) I cannot save the project. The message I get says "File error: a file of this name already exists
    2) When I try to circumvent that by renaming the project and using "Save project as" I get "General error" with no number to identify it
    3) The autosave gets an "access denied" error
    4) Nothing will render. Everything is checked in the pull-down menu, preferences trashed, etc. I ran through every fix I could find in these discussions, as they have saved me many times before, but nothing will get it to render. The progress bar flashes up for a split second then disappears.
Any help would be much appreciated! This thing is due in two hours!
    Thanks,
    JT

This might not work but it's worth a shot. Keep your project open and start a new project. Copy everything in your browser from the current project to the new project and then see if you can save the new project with a different name. This has worked for me in the past on projects that just seem to get corrupted somehow.
Have you recently changed permissions for anything? May want to do a 'Get Info" in Finder on your project file, render location, etc. to make sure you have proper permissions to those locations.

  • Performance bottleneck of hard drive: assets vs. cache vs. render-to drive?

so i'm beefing up my old mac pro tower (5,1) and was wondering which combination of use of hard drives is fastest, if anyone has any firsthand or theoretical suggestions...
if someone has all three of these hard drives:
    A) PCIe SSD (OWC Mercury Accelsior_E2 PCI Express SSD)
    B) internal drive bay SSD
    C) external SSD connected via 600MB/s eSATA port of the above linked card
… which is best to use in combination for the following in After Effects CC/CC2014?
    1) storage of assets files used in the AE project (ie. 1080/4k/RAW/etc footage, PSD files)
    2) AE disk cache
    3) the drive that AE is rendering to
… for example is 1A + 2C + 3B the fastest use for rendering? and is 1AC + 2B the fastest for while working in AE?
between assets, disk cache, and render location, which are more of a performance bottleneck?
and does the optimal combination vary if someone had 16 GB vs 64GB vs 128GB of RAM?
thanks in advance for any insight!

Well, the long and short answer is: It won't matter. All your system buses only have so much overall transfer bandwith and ultimately they all end up being in some way piped through your PCI bus, which in addition is shared by your graphics card, audio devices and what have you as well. There are going to be wait states and data collisions and whether or not you can make your machine fly to Mars is ultimately not relevant. There may be perhaps some tiny advantage in using a native PCI card SSD for Cache, but otherwise the overall combined data transfer rates will be way above and beyond what your system can handle, so it will put in the throttle one way or the other.

  • ITunes, QuickTime & .flv extensions

I've been floundering around for some time now trying to understand multi-media. I've learned how to import .mpg files into iTunes and create play lists. I understand you can also incorporate videos into iTunes, and I'd like to try that next.
I downloaded a software program called CosmoPod, which downloads YouTube videos. Since they're the same videos I was viewing with Safari, I figured I could click on the downloaded copies and watch them with Safari, too. But that doesn't work. I then tried QuickTime but was advised to download another software program from http://www.perian.org/
I'm supposed to drag the Perian icon into the QuickTime folder located in Developer/SKDs/etc. But it wouldn't let me; it said QuickTime can't be modified.
These files I'm trying to play have .flv extensions. I haven't tried dragging them into iTunes yet; I'm afraid I might mess something up, since I don't have a clue what's going on.
So can someone tell me what I have to do to 1) play .flv files, and 2) add videos to iTunes?
    Thanks.

    hi trackmanxs!
then i got the new quicktime and i am gettin error -1316 and -1603....someone please help
here's what we'll try first with that one.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
