Quicktime requires Windows 2000 or later

I was getting the above error after running windows .NET updates on Windows XP. I installed and unistalled Quicktime and Itunesnumerous times trying to get rid of the message and get Quicktime up and running. Tonight I finally figured it out...Right click on the Quicktime Shortcut or Exe. Choose Properties/Compatability and uncheck the 'Disable visual themes check box'. Now try it again and wala quicktime player starts up as expected.

I also have the Buffer Overrun issue w/QT latest rev. on my Windows XP Op.sys. I have the latest updates on XP installed as well.
I can't uninstall QT. When I went to the properties as you suggest for the .exe I do not have the Disable Visual Themes checked, and I noted I don't see Windows XP as one of the options for for the drop down window for Compatability Mode. It only goes up to Windows 2000 on my drop down list, though I leave the compatability box unchecked also.
Mine still doesn't work after complete Virus Scans, Registry Cleanup, and attempts to reinstall or repair ITunes & QT. I still have the persistent Buffer Overrun issue. When I did check Disable Visual Themes as per par. above, I got a different error indicating I needed to uncheck the Compatability option in that dialogue screen.
Any ideas would be helpful as I'm unable to use ITunes for my IPOD at the moment, after preparing a number of files I wanted to upload for vacation.

  • Quicktime player requires windows 2000 or later

Hello, I can't use quicktime, it gives me the error " Quicktime player requires windows 2000 or later" and changes all my icons into super size. I have windows 2000 and I've disabled all in the compatibility tabs (as it requested) and this does not help. Any ideas as to what is wrong and how I can fix it. It used to work just fine until the newer version of Quicktime was downloaded.
    Many Thanks

With that one, try heading back into the Compatibility tab.
Are any of the *display mode* boxes checked? If so, uncheck all of those too, and click okay. (They can also cause that message, and having one of those selected is consistent with your icons/desktop resizing.)
Any better luck with the launch after that?

  • QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later ERROR

I had been using QuickTime without a problem for several months, when all of a sudden I started getting an error that says "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or later..." and QuickTime refuses to open. The strange thing is that QuickTime still works in my internet browser, it just cannot launch movies or open from my local machine. So, basically I guess the browser plug-in is unaffected. iTunes also works fine.
I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit. My graphics card is an nVidia 8800GTX. My Windows, graphics drivers, QuickTime and iTunes are all up to date. I have made sure Compatibility Mode is disabled in the QuickTime.exe properties.
Any idea what the issue could be?

I found the solution to my problem. It's actually pretty obvious, but I did have the "Run as an Administrator" option checked in the compatibility tab of the QuickTime.exe. I didn't think that could be a problem I guess, but when I unchecked it... QuickTime starting working again.
This might not be the solution for everyone with these symptoms but make sure NOTHING is checked in the compatibility tab.

  • "iTunes requires Windows 2000 or later"

I have just downloaded the new iTunes software and QuickTime software for my iPod Video, and they have both been 'Installed Successfully'. But when i try to open iTunes i get this message entitled 'QuickTime Unavailable':
"iTunes requires Windows 2000 or later.
Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for iTunes.exe."
Now my computer is a Windows XP, and i selected this when i downloaded the software. And i made sure that the Compatibility mode was off. I have got the newest version of QuickTime which came with the iTunes download, and have restarted my computer after downloading it as it said. I feel completely stuck. Any ideas why iTunes isn't running?

Okay, then that is the appropriate Windows OS & SP for iTunes to run correctly, it may be a installation error, I'd try going to the download page again, downloading it then when prompted click Repair. It'll repair all the missing startup files and such that iTunes needs to run. If that doesn't work, completely uninstall iTunes, install it again, and restart.

  • QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or above - Error

Running Vista 64 and get the following message: "QuickTime Player requires Windows 2000 or above." iTunes works fine, but when I try to run QT it fails. Any ideas of what the problem could be? Not in compatibility mode in either app. Running default configuration. Vista is at current level.
    Thanks.

  • Quicktime wont engage:2000 or later Im xp

Ive installed quicktime7 but when i try to use it, the screen enlarges and a dialog box appears saying windows 2000 or later to run Quicktime. I have Windows xp. I disabled the compatability but it still WONT WORK. HELP!

Head back into the Compatibility mode tab for your QuickTimePlayer.exe.
Are any of the boxes (not just the compatibility mode box) checked in there? If so, try unchecking all the boxes and clicking OK.
Does your QuickTime start launching again without the compatibility mode message?

Even if it were possible, it would not be wise to have XP connected to internet, because it is not maintained any more, the latest security update was for Internet Explorer (I think for the SSH hole), and now all maintenance is stopped. I have technical installations with XP, that I cannot upgrade to W7 or 8, and I have disconnected internet for safety.
So do as Csound (   ) says, when possible.

  • ITunes not recognizing my Windows xp or Windows 2000

I've spent 3 days trying to get my daughters ipod to upgrade to 7, I finally got it after I removed my NIS, removed all previous IPod/tunes programing, reloaded..was able to get into the store, then had an error mesge, I fixed it then when I clicked on my itunes, it says "itunes requires windows 2000 or later" what do I need to do? I think I've solved my other error messages, but then maybe not.. so disappointed in the software of IPOD. Also my Windows XP does have the Windows 2000 service pack on it as well. I have changed the capatibility tab on Itunes.exe to every option and no option that they had.

No it is not as simple as that. You will need to combine XP with SP2 on a single BOOTABLE disk.
There is a process called "Slipstream". You can slipstream XP and SP2 on to one singe Disk and then use it to install windows on your intel mac via boot camp. Its either this or you will need to go out and buy a full version of XPSP2 or Vista.
The process of Slipstreaming is explained [HERE_|http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2slipstream.asp].
There are several threads in the boot camp forum which covers this process. This process is reported be successful at times and a failure at times. It will need to be done perfectly.
In my opinion, you are better off buying Windows.

  • Quicktime 7.2 and Windows 2000 - Security Vulnerabilities

Apple has released Quicktime 7.2 for Vista and XP noting several security vulnerabilites it fixes but I cannot find any mention on whether these vulnerabilities affect Quicktime 7.1.6 for Windows 2000 or whether Apple will no longer support Quicktime for Windows 2000. Can anyone point me to some documentation that notes no support or that these vulnerabilities they discuss only affect XP and Vista?
    Thanks!

  • My itunes won't open in windows 2000

I just got my first ipod its a 2nd generation nano, I went to support to learn what all i neded to do to get music on it. Apple support told me to dl the latest version of itunes so i did that. After I installed it, I went to the icon and clicked it and it would not open. I tried opening it all other ways you can on a comp and all i get is a little hour glass that stays on for 3 seconds and then goes away nothing loads.
I have never had itunes on this comp ever soit couldn't be a matter of having other traces of itunes conflicting with the new version.
I did a complete uninstall and then went through all the steps to make sure there was nothing left of itunes on my comp then i put itunes 6 on my comp and it worked fine but when i plugged my nano into my comp it told me i needed itunes version7 or higher .
I am truly at a frustrated loss and any help would be greatly appreciated , I have a brand new ipod tha ti cannot use and i have been dying to have some music to listen to while at the gym.

First off does your computer met these requirements?
    Windows Requirements
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later or Windows XP
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
    QuickTime 7.1.5 (included)
    256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
    Additional Video Requirements
2.0 GHz Pentium class processor or better
    512MB RAM
    32MB video RAM
If iTunes 6 is working fine for you and if your computer meets these requirments try downloading itunes 7 again and see if the problem repeats, if you get any error message during the install post it here that will give many here an idea of what is going on.

  • Upgrade windows 2000 t o windows 2005 and sql 2000 to sql 2005

    Dear People,
i have not actually done any upgradestill now, i have task where i need to upgrade existing sap system. The sap has already been upgraded, now my task is to upgrade operating system and database
    requirement:
    windows 2000 to windows 2003
    sql 2000 to sql 2005
the above should be done by the procedure recommended by sap only, so im wondering where i can find the information and tools for uprading both O/S and DB.
    Help
    Raj

I personally would not do a Windows upgrade, Windows can be very picky when it comes to 3rd party SCSI/FC drives you may experience bluescreens during the update after the second boot etc.
I would backup the system and install the operating system from scratch and do a system copy instead.
For your database upgrade, there's a guide at
