Quicktime's new screen recording feature

I need the Quicktime screen recording feature for a work project.  My Macbook Pro (os 10.7) has it but the iMac at work (os 10.2) does not.  It's not clear if Quicktime Pro for Mac does.  I have already purchased Quicktime Pro for my work pc only to find that the feature is not available.
My question is, if I buy the os upgrade to 10.8 for the iMac, will this Quicktime feature work?

  • QuickTime Player: New Screen Recording question

When creating a New Screen Recording, it is possible to only record the audio coming from the speakers and NOT record the audio in the room where the macbook is sitting?

Soundflower allows you to route system audio into an application.
Install Soundflower-- http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ (instructions for use) and http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/downloads/list (application)-- to add system audio (core audio) inputs to the line-in and microphone options already present in QuickTime Player (i.e., QuickTime 10).   Once it's installed,
    1. System Preferences > Sound > Output.  Select Soundflower (2ch).
    2. Open QT and begin a New Screen Recording.  In the Screen Recording window, click the dialogue triangle on the right.  Under Microphone, select Soundflower (2ch).
    3. Begin your screen recording.
Note, however, that you won't be able to hear system audio while using Soundflower as a QT input--the audio that was going to your speakers is now going into QT instead.  When you finish your recording, go back to System Preferences > Sound > Output to route the audio back to Internal Speakers or your usual default audio output.

  • The Quicktime Pro New Movie Recording Feature

I just got the Pro edition, and it says in the guide that to record a new movie all I have to do is plug in my camera and then go to File menu and click on "New Movie Recording", but I don't have that item on my menu? I'm guessing it should be there, and I checked that I typed in my key correctly, so what is wrong? I have a camera and mic but what I really want is to do it with quicktime.
    Thanks for your help.

I just bought the powershot canon s21s and followed drom the quicktime pro 1) file
    2) new movie recording
    3) quick time does not recognize my camara. Any Ideas ??

  • Quicktime does not have new screen recording option

What happened to Quicktime's new screen recording option?
I wanted to record a video and now the only option I can see is the built-in camera of myself.
I have Mac OSX 10.9.1 with the lastest updates.

I was just about to write about that.  For some reason I went back to Qucktime and played the recording of myself
and went to delete it. There in the list I saw "new screen recording"  I looked at the "about Quicktime player" and found that it was indeed 10.3  I am not sure what I deed to get that but there it is.
    Thx, for verifying .

  • I'm trying to record only part of my screen using my Quicktime 10.0, but once I press record in the "Screen recording" feature it automatically starts recording and doesn't give me the option to choose what part of the screen to capture. What gives?

I'm trying to record only part of my screen using my Quicktime 10.0, but once I press record in the "Screen recording" feature it automatically starts recording and doesn't give me the option to choose what part of the screen to capture. What gives?

QuickTime version 10 can only record the entire screen.
10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 offer part of the screen recording.

  • Why cant I use the screen record feature on quicktime 7.7.2

i have recently got apple QuickTime player 7.7.2 pro. One of the main reasons I got it is because i knew in past versions they had the screen record feature, but on the 7.7.2 pro version it didn't. i was disappointed that it didn't have the feature that the other versions had. before i got it i decided to update the version I had (The one with the screen record feature) and now i wish i didn't update it. I think the screen record feature was cool and i dont know why its gone. Also i am using windows.

QuickTime Player Pro has never included screen capturing features.
QuickTime X (found in Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion) does include screen capture features.

  • HT201066 I bought QuickTime Pro but when I click File, New Screen Recording doesn't appear. Help?

    This is what shows up.

QuickTime Player Pro doesn't include any screen capture features.
QuickTime X (versions 10, 10.1 and 10.2) has screen recording features and its found in your HD/Applications folder.

    Hi j2399123,
It sounds like your screen recording is doing what it was designed to do, capture what is happening on your screen, with optional voice over with the microphone.
Screen recording is for recording what you see on the screen, it is not a "video capture" option, like for capturing a movie with sound that is playing on your screen.
For the QuickTime recording options, check out "Recording with QuickTime Player" in
Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files

And for screen recording specifically, there's

  • QuickTime Player - Partial Screen Recording?

    Hello everyone,
My idea was to use AppleScript to:
    - Launch Quicktime Player
    -- Start Screen Recording
-- Check that 'Show Mouse Click in Recording' is marked
    -- Click 'Record' button
--- Let user drag his desired portion of the screen
    --- Start record
    --- Stop record
    -- Save movie
    - Close QuickTime Player
So far I only got to the point where the user needs to 'drag his desired portion of the screen'.
But I also have a problem detecting that 'Show Mouse Click in Recording' is checked or not.
I can click it, but if it's already checked - it'll just go off. The problem is that it's not really a checkbox element rather a menu item.
Is there a way around it?
Also, and more important, how can I tell when the user finished his recording I.e. clicks the 'Stop' button so the script
can move on to saving that file.
Here is what I got so far (pretty basic):
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
              tell process "QuickTime Player"
click menu item "New Screen Recording" of menu "File" of menu bar 1
click menu button of window "Screen Recording"
click menu item "Show Mouse Clicks in Recording" of menu 1 of menu button 1 of window "Screen Recording"
click button 1 of window "Screen Recording"
              end tell
    end tell
So, am I crazy or is it possible?
I am pretty new to AppleScript, if there is a different, better way to do it, I would love to know.
    Thanks!
    Mac OSX 10.8.5
    QuickTime Player 10.2

I don't know much about QuickTime Player. Nevertheless, maybe the following script, tested with QuickTime Player 10.3 under OS X 10.9.1, can help you.
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
set theDocument to new screen recording
        activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
        tell process "QuickTime Player"
tell menu button 1 of window "Screen Recording"
                click
tell menu item "Show Mouse Clicks in Recording" of menu 1
if value of attribute "AXMenuItemMarkChar" is missing value then
                        click
                    else
                        keystroke return
                    end if
                end tell
            end tell
click button 1 of window "Screen Recording"
repeat until exists menu bar item 1 of menu bar 2
                delay 1
            end repeat
repeat while exists menu bar item 1 of menu bar 2
                delay 1
            end repeat
            repeat until exists window "Untitled"
                delay 1
            end repeat
click menu item "Save…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1
        end tell
    end tell

  • Quicktime Pro 7: Screen Recording is missing

    Hello
I downloaded Quicktime Pro 7 to be able to record my screen.
The problem: there is no function "New Screen Recording" appearing!
    There are only these functions:
    New Player
    New Movie Recording
    New Audio Recording
    New Screen Recording ist missing!
    What can I do?
    Thx for help
    Christine

Wait what do you mean Q T 7 whats that
Classic version of QT based on a 32-bit structure embedded in the operating system as opposed to Apple's completely re-written version of QuickTime now under development using 64-bit embedded structures compatible with QT X Players v10.0, 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 on a Mac. Both players can be installed on and used by Snow Leopard and later operating systems which have dual QT structures embedded within Mac OS X. However, only the QT 7 player can be keyed for QT 7 "Pro" use and is the player about which the original poster here was asking.

  • HT201066 Why does "New Screen Recording" record in Photo-JPEG codec?

Something's changed on me... Now when I use QuickTime to record (using "New Screen Recording"), it records the portion of the screen I've selected same as always but the resulting file is way fat.
Get Info says its recorded as: codec Photo-JPEG.
It used to record in H.264 but now it's a bloated file and this screwy wrong format.
    Why?
How do I change it back to record screen as a H.264 file?
I see only options for Quality: Medium or High. (I choose Medium.)
I'm using latest Lion and QT.
    Any ideas...? Thanks

Further research answered my question. Found my answer posted by QuickTimeKirk on a related topic:
"There are two options for quality in the screen recording set up (Medium and High). Medium uses Photo-JPEG codec and High uses H.264. Medium quality actually makes much higher file sizes."
My thanks to QuickTimeKirk. Since I haven't seen any of this extremely helpful info posted here or in a Google web search, I must assume I'm the only idiot on the block. However, let's get the word out.

  • No audio on new screen recording

I am trying to save Apple's iPod tutorial (http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorials/) on my mac.  I have succeeded in capturing the video portion of the tutorial, but there is no audio.
In Quicktime, I select File>New Screen Recording.  This gives a Screen Recording screen where I select for Microphone: Built-in Input: Line In; also I select audio play through volume to full.  In Safari, I start the tutorial web video and then in QT hit the record button and then select Start Recording.  When the web video is finished I hit in QT stop recording in the menu bar.  The video is saved in my mac Movie folder.  I double-click the saved video and it opens in QT.  I hit the QT Play button and the video starts playing but there is no audio.  What is wrong?  I'd appreciate any help.

This URL can be found in the source code for the web page you referenced above, in the "Activity" window after you select the clip you want
I did this and found the URL given in your EXAMPLE DEFAULT.
    This was two separate options:
    1) You can open the "View Source" window under the View menu and search the web page source code for all video links (both Guided Tours and TV Ads).
    2) The Activity window only loads the reference URL after you select a clip for viewing but you seem to have a handle on this already.
or in the Finder "Info" window for the non-playing downloadable reference file.
It is not clear to me how to do this
If you copy the reference link in the Safari Activity window and paste it to the Safari "Download" window, the file it downloads from this web page will not open directly in the QT Player app. (I.e., you get a "Can't open this file" modal message.) However, if you highlight the MOV icon and open the Finder "Info" window, you can still get the full URL reference that will open in the QT Player "Open URL/Location" File menu option.
NOTE: In many cases the file downloaded directly by the Download window is a normal standalone or reference file which can be opened in the QT Player. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the page you gave.
Use the "Control-Click" shortcut to open the context menu and select the "Copy Link" option for the example default tour link above
I started playing the movie and did a control click but don't get a Copy Link option.  Can't I just copy and paste the URL address from the movie window?
Was referring to the "Example" link I posted in my last comment. If you "Control-Click" this link, the "Context" menu contains both "Copy Link" and "Download Linked File" options. The "Copy Link" option is handy for copying the associated link to your system's "Clipboard." If you then open the QT Player app, select the "Open Location/URL" option, you can then use the "Command-V" shortcut to paste the copied link to the QT player for opening. (You can also paste the URL to Safari to open the file via the default plug-in.)
NOTE: On some web sites you can simply "Control-Click" the movie, a poster image, or text link and use the "Download Linked File" option to download a movie file directly. Unfortunely, the ability to do this depends on how the page is coded/resources are located so don't be surprised if you end up with something other than you wanted or expected.
Since I am running OS 10.6.7, if I understand you, I don't need to purchase QT7 Pro to do this.
I assume you can. I can do it under OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard which allows me to copy the data to a new MOV file container without recompressing the data.

  • Quicktime Player 10 - Screen Recording

When I am in a screen recording I don't see the "stop recording" option in my menu bar. The only way to stop the recording is the keystroke method. This is ok for me, but not so much for students. Is there a preference to make this option viewable?

Im guessing this feature was taken out. I can zoom around while in the actual operating system. But when entering quicktime and screen recording I can zoom. But once the video is finished and played back, the zoom spots I did are not on the recording. Im guessing most likely ill have to get a paid verison of Screen recroding software if I want this done? Thanks for the response !

  • Quicktime for full screen recording

Is there anyway I can do full screen recording using Quicktime. I can't seem to get it working when in full screen mode. Is there any keystrokes that I can use while in full screen mode?

What I meant was if I am playing a youtube video in full screen mode how do I capture that?
Update : OK I think I have this licked. I just click on the record button, click on the existing screen and then swipe to another space where the full screen video is playing. Cool.
