Quicktime says I have a newer version already installed... Not!

I deleted quicktime and all it's library components because it wouldn't load. I downloaded a new version from apple.com and now it says I can't load it because I already have a newer version installed... But as I said, I deleted it and all it's shared components from library.
Any thoughts?
Tony

Look in the HD/Library/Receipts folder for a part you didn't delete.
Try the installer again after removing the .pkg file.

Can't update quicktime on windows xp. I have 7.3.1 and when I try to install 7.7.3 it says I have a newer version already installed??? Even uninstalling the older one, it still says the same thing. I haven't been able to update it since 2007.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Cannot install quicktime due to newer version already installed

I'm in desperate need of help. I've been trying to install Itunes for the last 4 nights but QUICKTIME is messing it up. I keep getting the error that a newer version of QUICKTIME is already installed and the installation can't continue.
I've been scouring the internet for hours over several nights to find a solution without luck.
There is no entry in the Programs uninstaller for Quicktime.
I've scoured all my HDs for quicktime and removed all entries
I've run several reg cleaners and regedit to clean out any reference to Quicktime
I've used the 'how to uninstall quicktime' support page and used the MS install cleanup utility, cleaned out temp files, used JV Powertools to clean out Quicktime.
I've used both the standalone installer and the Itunes installer
I've tried using safemode to install but the installer doesn't work in safe mode
I've tried uninstalling several codecs in the chance that they are somehow effecting this
I'm at the end of my rope and both me and the internet appear to be out of ideas. Of course, I need to get Quicktime on to use Itunes and my Itouch.
I'm running a fully updated Vista install. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I am using Windows XP on an HP Media Center PC m7167c. I have tried everything to fix the issue. Nothing works. HEY APPLE, Can you please fix your QuickTime installer to override the "Newer Version Already Installed" message when there is no QuickTime installed. This problem has been going on for over a year. Please provide an easy alternative way to FORCE INSTALL QUICKTIME. Thanks

  • I can't get update iWork because I updated keynote first so it says I have a newer version of keynote and quits the update for the rest

I got a new mac with lion on it and I transfered all my stuff from the old mac to the new one.  When I went to use iwork the programs did not work anylonger (I do own the disc and tried reinstalling but no good).  I found the update for Keynote on the apple site and that solved the problem for keynote.  Then I saw the update for the whole iwork program and tried to do that as well but it won't let me run it because it says I have a newer version of Keynote already installed.  How do I get the update to work or how do I get the same type of update for numbers and pages individually?  Thanks!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

I tried to download another from the app store- says I have a newer version
any suggestions how to make it work for me?

thanks for your reply.  I tried this without success.   My apple ID is fine- I verified it and it works.    I sign in and it takes me to the page saying "NEXT" but when I click on that, it takes me back to the sign in page.   My contacts all disappeared.    And I cannot open the FaceTime Preferences pane-  is grey and Not able to be clicked on to open.     My apple ID works but my FaceTime will not.
    any other suggestions
I updated to the most recent OS mavericks too

  • Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder  - Both types say I have "a newer version installed", but I can't view Pro-Res files on either type of machine.

I'm trying to view a Pro-Res file from Final Cut Pro on machines that have Quicktime Pro, but having no luck.  I've tried installing the "
Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder " for both Windows and Mac (on the correct machines), but I keep getting "You already have a newer version of this installed" on each machine, and can't finish.  Needless to say, the Pro-Res file will not play on either machine, and there seems to be no way to remove a "newer version" and install this one.  Thanks for any suggestions.

    Rob,
There is no quicktime folder there. And no quicktime program is installed when I try to install iTunes. The only reason I tried installing quicktime in standalone was because the itunes install was not actively going to the quicktime part of its installation.
I've tried removing everything and only installing iTunes. But even after deleting the physical files, using the WIndows Install cleanup tool, and cleaning up my registry, the quicktime portion of the iTunes install doesn't complete, and I keep getting "unknown" errors from the crash prevention program, and from what I can see it's because there's no physical Quicktime program installed.
As for other accounts, no I cannot start it up with other accounts, I keep getting the "Unknown" error and there is no physical files for quicktime anywhere.
And selective startup doesn't seem to work as there is NO qttask option when I run selective startup.
So, I seem to be out of options, and thing else I could try?

  • 7.1.3 will not install, Says I have a "Newer Version", but none installed!

    Okay,
As I'm sure most people have noticed, the new build of iTunes is not running smoothly. I've tried to install the updated build but it wouldn't work. It installed iTunes and the New Quicktime. It failed to open. So I do what apple tells me to: Try re-installing it.
But after uninstalling both to try and reinstall, iTunes won't install quicktime anymore. And when I try to use the standalone Quicktime installer, it tells me that I cannot install because I have a newer version than 7.1.3 on my computer! And when I install iTunes (without it installing quicktime, on it's own mind you)and then open it, it says I must have Quicktime installed to use it. Even my Quickitme plugins for my internet don't work!
I know this is impossible. And I've tried to rectify it every way I know how. Delete the remaining files in Windows and Program Files, use the Windows Installer Clean Up tool, try re-installing in safe mode, BUT NOTHING WORKS! I'd really like to use the new iTunes but I can't do anything with it untill I fix the quicktime problem.
If anyone can help, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you.
    ~JYH

  • BBC iplayer says Adobe Air needs updating: Adobe Air will not install, but says I have a later version already on my PC!

Use Firefox. Have BBC iPlayer which will not load, saying I need a newer version of Adobe Air: when trying to instal Adobe Air, get message saying I already have a more recent version. It worked when I was using IE, but not since changing to Firefox.

    Hi there,
stumbled on this conversation after having problems myself.
After lots of trial and error, I was finally able to install iPlayer on my MacBook Pro.
Firstly remove Adobe Air (Applications, Utilities, Adobe Air Uninstaller).
Reboot (not sure if it is needed but it is what I did).
Download Adobe Air 2.5 from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/853/cpsid_85304.html
Then retry installing iPlayer from the BBC webpage. I ignored the prompt from Adobe Air to upgrade to the latest version (3.1).

  • Mail says I have 38 new messages but there not there

Yesterday I downloaded new mail...I didn't read them all so i clossed mail and was going to check it later. I opened mail toaday and it still says I have 38 unread messgaes but there not in the inbox; it's empty.
I really don't need to read the messages but how do I get the mail count in the dock to reset?

This is what I wanted - thanks.
Everything looks normal so try the following:
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index. Delete the Envelope Index file and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import all mailboxes available within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
Select OK and allow the import process to complete. This isn't really importing anything but replacing the deleted Envelope Index file and re-indexing all mailboxes.
After confirming all mailboxes are available, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder placed on the Desktop.
Hopefully this will resolve the problem.
I'm getting ready to drive home from the coast which is a 4-5 hour drive so I won't be available again until 5:30 or so central time today.

  • Tried to install Firefox 8.0, it says I have a newer version, but have a 3.6.24. How come?

When I use Firefox (3.6.24) I get a page saying I need the newest version, 8.0. I download the new one, move the file from "Fetched files" and put it on my desk, where I open it.
As I, in dialogue field, drag Firefoxsymbol over to Applications map, it says "You've got a more recent object, are you sure you want to replace it?"
Should I ignore that and go on with the installation?
And what could be the newer object that's already there?

    * Remove firefox first
    * get fresh installer from getfirefox.com
    * run install

  • I cannot override my previous version of Firefox with v4.0. When I try to drag it into applications, I get a message that there is a newer version already there (not true).

I have been following the download instructions. But I never get a prompt to place the file into the Applications folder. So I open the file, drag it to Applications, and get a message that I already have a newer file in Applications. However, this is not true. When I drag the file to the Firefox icon, I am told that can't be done because Firefox is already open.
I have done several other updates, never had this problem before. I have a MacBook.

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor; your system is a PPC Mac.
    *System Requirements: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/4.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 4] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 5] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/6.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 6] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 7] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 8]
The good news is that Firefox 3.6.24 still supports the PPC Mac architecture. The bad news is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.
    *System requirements: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/3.6/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 3.6.x]
    *Download Firefox 3.6.24: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You can try the third-party product '''''TenFourFox''''' that supports PPC Macs. Firefox 8 version of '''''TenFourFox''''' is available. The product is based on Firefox released versions. All support is provided by the developer, not by this site:

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)
