QuickTime says "missing software"
My QuickTime doesn't want to play some files. It handles some just fine, ones which I've had for a while, but when I try to play more recent files, it says: "QuickTime requires additional software to playback this media." I tried reinstalling as well as re-downloading and installing QuickTime, but it didn't help. The error message said I might be able to find the software from the QuickTime Components page, but everything I could find was for Mac (unless I missed something.) The files aren't bad either, as my brother's computer (a mac) plays them just fine.
I have the most current version, too. If anyone knows what could be causing this, I would greatly appreciate the help.

It doesn't matter much that you created the file. It matters what codec you used. Right click on it and get the properties of the file.
From your description I would guess you created a mpeg2 file. The clip will not play correctly in FCP without the audio and video being demuxed. Many use MPEG Streamclip for that purpose.

GarageBand: missing software instruments & loops won't download
Hi,
Recently I've bought a 15' MacBook Pro with OS X version 10.8.3 installed on it(and I've updated it to version 10.8.4) and tried to download [missing software
instruments and loops] for GarageBand, but that update for the additional GarageBand contents couldn't be found on App Store's update page even after trying
several times. Does anybody have a solution or similar experience? Answers would be greatly appreciated!I recently had the same problem when I upgraded to Garageband '11. There are many posts and answers about this issue on the forum, but the one that worked for me was also the simplest solution. When you get to the Updates window on the App Store and it says it doesn't find any updates, hit ⌘-R to reload. When I did that, the additional instruments and loops download appeared in the Updates window and I was able to download them.
If that doesn't work for you, search this forum. There are many more possible solutions. Good luck! -

Missing Software and version #
Okay, how would you all handle this:
In ZEN 7, we had JUST MSI And add/remove programs setup for software inventory. It actually did pretty good (example, it found a bunch of ESRI ArcGIS stuff).
It would show ALL the SDK (ie, there's an SDK for C++, one for VB, etc.)
It would also show the complete version and build number (ie: 9.2.134.21)
Now we are using ZAM 7.5 (in addition to ZEN, but eventually will cutover to ZCM)
Anyway, ZAM 7.5 seems even more limited in its software inventory.
It doesn't find any of the SDK's (I've had to submit multiple fingerprint wizards in the past for missing software).
It also doesn't report build numbers, just versions like 9.2
Sooo, what's the best way to handle this?
The missing stuff I'm either going to have to add more fingerprints (very time consuming as I have to go visit the PC's with the software to run the utility) or add local product (in which case I've gotta get the people to send me the .exe and whatnot). Either way, stinks, IMO.
And how should I handle the missing version information? It's in the windows registry at the least, but I'm not sure about the actual VBR info in the file. Do I submit an SR, enhancement request, run the wizard?
Version info is very important for us because it signifies the product patch levels (ie, it doesn't say like: Hi I'm ArcView 9.2 SP3, but rather, I'm 9.2.somethingsomethingsomethng)Recognition in ZAM - and ZCM - has been, over time, focused more towards business applications than development applications. In that environment, recognition out to the build number is viewed as less relevant; accordingly, most fingerprints tend to report at the "N.N" or "N.N.N" level. The recognition technology is quite capable of reporting out to "N.N.N.N" and indeed that level of granularity is utilized when requested and appropriate. (We pickup the build from the VRB.) Further, when specified, "promotion" fingerprints will automatically discover versions with new build numbers in them and create new products on-the-fly. This type of fingerprint must, however, be engineered by Novell.
Generally, the recognition team has placed less emphasis on SDKs. We tend to make decisions towards products that will have impact on the majority of customers. But, as you've mentioned, we respond to requests for signatures.
From the software local products perspective, if you are gathering "software file" (the ZAM name) or "file scan" (ZCM) data, you shouldn't need to have files sent to you to create a local product. In ZAM 7.5 you can create a local product from the Software Files report in the web console fairly efficiently. It works even better in the ZENworks Control Center of ZCM 10. On a project earlier this year, at a customer site where there is a lot of internal application development and a strong commitment to populating the VRB on every update, we created over 150 local products - with different product names and versions - in about a minute. -
So all of the sudden my Quicktime is missing. well its not really missing but it wont work. I noticed that websites started showing the quicktime logo with a "?" in the middle of it yesterday. I reinstalled QT to prevail. I have no idea whats wrong but its really annoying. Can you help?

In this case, what types of files can't you play? Since you probably cannot tell, the next best things is to provide the URL for a site giving you problems.
On the one hand, the "Q with question mark" is a generic indication that the browser plug-in has reached a disjunction and requires the user to make a decision as to what should be done. For instance, if you are listening to .mp3 files on a web site and come across one with the .mpg extension, then you will get "Q with question mark" in the browser plug-in. (On the other hand, the QT player would play this same file without question but ignore it entirely if it were the target of a .qtl file.) Kirk's reference to Flash files was to point out that about 98-99% of such problems are due to changes in the handling of Flash files and the decision of many webmasters to no longer support Flash 5 compatibility. For instance, if the target files you wish to view are Flash 5 or less, you don't have an external Flash component installed, and the MIME settings disallow QT plug-in handling of the content, then you will get the "Q w/question mark." If you are trying to watch Flash 5 or higher content and have MIME settings that send the content to the QT plug-in, then you will again get the "Q w/question mark" whether or not you have a current external Flash component installed. Since we don't know what you are trying to watch, what settings you currently are using, and what external component you may or may not have installed, it is difficult to give a single definitive answer here. In my opinion, your optimum choice would be to install the most current Adobe Flash component available for the Mac and simply turn off the QT browser plug-in handling of Flash altogether. If the problem persists, then you will have to post back with specific URL(s) for further analysis. -
Software update say "your software is up to date" but i only have 10.4.1
i just got this computer used and I wanted to get the newest itunes update but it says it needs 10.4.9 or newer.
so i click on the apple software update and it searches for a new update then it says "your software is up to date" but about this mac says i only have 10.4.1 and i want the 10.4.11.

there should also be that retail installer disc, too.
There may be some system parts missing, and a
previous owner may have tried to use Trash to

there may be issues in the remaining system.
Can you further describe the exact computer model,
build date, and configuration of processor, RAM,
hard drive, so as to tell what it really is? There are
some that look quite a bit alike, but the insides are
often different enough and may have shipped with
other hardware and software.
For some comparative information, you could get &
read through a database from http://mactracker.ca
which would show most every Apple computer made
and their specifications, build date, and model nos.

i am trying to update the software on my ipad from 4.2 to 4.3.3 but i cannot get it to download. I get an error message that says the software was unable to download because the network timed out. I have tried to download it 7 or 8 different times and still get the same message. I cannot restore the factory settings either. The same thing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? It did this when trying to update to 4.2. I don't remember how we were able to get the software to update. Thanks.

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from an external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. While setting up my new MAC the external hard drive was dropped and I have been told by an outside source they could not retrieve the files. It had 4 years of photos and videos on it. I remembered that I had downloaded some of the videos from the external hard drive (before it was broke) to Adobe Organizer 13 when I installed the Adobe 13 on my MACOS X 10.9.5. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open these videos?
Any input is greatly appreciated!! I am sick over losing the videos and had a little hope on Adobe Organizer until I was unable to open them. I am thinking it is due to my external hard drive not being plugged in. I thought when I transferred from the external hard drive to Adobe 13 that it would be there without the external hard drive needing to be attached but maybe I did something wrong.

To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?

My ipod needs to be restore and I get a error message saying :ipod software update server coud not be contacted.
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then tap Settings > General > Software Update
No data is lost due to a reset. -
so i bought a mac book air, and i had to buy the LG portable cd drive... which is supposed to burn cds? the lg cd/dvd writer came with a cd but it wont load onto my computer when i plug the usb cord in. all i want to do is burn a cd from itunes but it says " burning software not found" but the LG cd drive says it will burn cds?? im confused please help!

Yep. I installed Lion this morning. Open Mail. All is good. Went to video on the Apple's homepage and my whole computer froze up. I couldn't even shut down the computer properly. I just had to shut it off and restart. :|
Although, no "missing plug in" prompts were coming up for me. Just a frozen (brand new) iMac. -
